An Accommodation nestled deep in the mountains—irresistible for Onsen lovers.
If you love Onsen, this place is truly heaven—there are 18 private baths. This was my third stay, and I still haven’t managed to try them all. The detached cottage “Aoi” has its own open-air bath, which is absolutely wonderful. I always end up completely satisfied just using the bath in the Room. The spring quality is a simple Onsen (slightly alkaline, hypotonic, high-temperature) with a pH of 8.3. It feels gentle on the skin and is easy to enjoy in a different way from more distinctive springs like sulfur Onsen. It’s comfortable for longer soaks, and being able to enjoy it many times during your stay is part of the appeal. Many of the open-air baths have a rustic, DIY-like feel. Numerous private baths are scattered across the vast grounds, and I can only imagine how much work it must be to maintain and manage so many. Because this Accommodation is surrounded by nature, things like insects and fallen leaves are somewhat unavoidable. In July there were quite a few insects, and when I visited last September I also had trouble with biting gnats. Even so, this Accommodation has more than enough charm to make up for it. The source spring has an abundant flow rate, and the source temperature is very high at 76.1°C. To bring it down to a comfortable temperature, adding water may sometimes be necessary. As an Onsen lover, I’d ideally like to enjoy pure free-flowing water without dilution—but with such a high-temperature source spring, I understand that temperature control can be challenging. Many of the staff are from overseas, but everyone speaks Japanese well and I’ve never felt inconvenienced. They are always polite and attentive. And despite being such a secluded hot-spring retreat, it’s great that the meals are genuinely delicious as well. This time we ordered sukiyaki as an extra dish; it was excellent and very satisfying. In winter this area apparently gets extremely heavy snowfall. Next time I’d love to visit in winter and enjoy an outdoor bath while admiring snowy scenery.

Accommodation Where You Can Interact with Cats
There are many cats on the property, and some of them will let you pet them, which is incredibly soothing. On the other hand, if you’re not comfortable around cats, it might be a bit tough. At night, when I went to the “Star” bath, a kitty had snuck in and was curled up in a changing basket (lol). Many of the staff are from overseas, but everyone’s attentiveness was truly outstanding—from guiding us to our Room to serving meals—so I never felt uneasy during my stay. Most importantly, the Onsen was fantastic: we were able to reserve several large baths for private use, and it was a lot of fun. If there’s one thing to note, since it’s surrounded by nature, you may see some insects. I was also worried about mobile reception, but Rakuten Mobile and au worked without any issues. I’d love to visit again when the weather is cooler.

Near Teruha Gorge
The South Wing where we stayed felt like a Japanese-style Room designed for ski guests, so it would likely suit a ski group. However, given how remote the location is, I would have liked the Room to feel a bit more upscale for this season. One of the shoji screens was left torn. (That may depend on the building.) The staff were doing their best despite not being native Japanese speakers. It never made me feel uncomfortable, but for those still learning Japanese, I think they should be instructed to speak more slowly—this is a management issue. Now about the baths: it’s presented as being able to visit various Onsen, but depending on how you look at it, it’s essentially several private baths. Since the water quality is the same, I didn’t feel motivated to try them all. I found myself thinking it might be better to have multiple similar private baths plus one standout bath that really feels special. That said, the water itself was very good. Dinner was satisfying and delicious. Breakfast wasn’t bad either, though Gunma’s characteristically strong seasoning may be a matter of preference. If skiing is your main purpose, this Accommodation works well. It also feels like they may be experimenting with how to evolve further from here—just my impression. Personally, I’m looking for great food, an Onsen where you can soak slowly and comfortably, and Rooms that let you enjoy summer nights. This time of year, Teruha Gorge was quiet and that was quite nice.

The free-flowing Onsen was wonderful.
There were a few inconveniences—only one Room key, Wi‑Fi available only at the front desk, a thin futon mattress, and tatami in the Room that looked dirty (though not frayed). However, the free-flowing Onsen and the private bath were very enjoyable, and I was able to relax and soak at length. The area around the Accommodation was quiet, and I could spend time peacefully in the Room as well. (There were five or six friendly cats around the Accommodation that let me pet them, which was soothing.) It’s quite a long walk from the Room to the separate dining building; it can be inconvenient in bad weather, and I think it may be difficult for guests with mobility issues, so it’s worth considering carefully. I stayed here before going to Oze; it was about a 50-minute drive to the Oze parking lot, and the roads were wider than expected, making it a convenient location. The meals were good—especially the rice—and they also sold it at the front desk.

Private Bath
There were 18 private baths, and it was a dream-like Onsen where you could use them freely. There was a bath where you could enjoy the sound of the river, one with a sparkling ceiling and even beneath the tub, a sauna, and even a large open-air bath—all available for private use. The building is old. The meals didn’t feel particularly special, but they were tasty.

Highly satisfied
I usually stay at expensive places, but they’re all the same and boring. This Accommodation has lots of private baths—and you can use them anytime, 24 hours a day! There’s nowhere else like it. The meals are great too—I was amazed. The location is a bit inconvenient and the Facility is old, but that’s why it’s reasonably priced. And checkout is at 11:00—does anywhere else do that? Probably only here. I’ll be back in winter for a snowy-view bath! Oh, there are cats on the property, just so you know.

I had a relaxing time.
We stayed as a three-generation family with children. The private bath without a reservation allowed us to enjoy a relaxing soak anytime we wanted. Dinner was delicious, and breakfast was luxurious. However, the cleaning was not thorough, so it might not be suitable for those who are particular about details. The onsen with natural hot spring water helped clear up my grandchild's heat rash beautifully.

Wonderful Accommodation
We stayed in a room in the South Wing for three people. The accommodation was just a short walk from the bus stop. Although we were worried about arriving too early when using the bus, everything was fine as long as we informed the staff, both on arrival and departure. The staff provided clear explanations at first and then gave us privacy while being very kind and helpful whenever we had questions or needed assistance. It was a very comfortable accommodation with attentive service from all employees, who greeted us with smiles and worked hard to assist us. The variety of private-use baths available at any time was fantastic. Sandals in M and L sizes, along with socks, were provided for use when going to the baths (though since our feet are small, we slightly regretted not bringing our own Crocs sandals). The meals were delicious with just the right portions. The front desk had various items available to ensure convenience and enjoyment during our stay, which was very helpful. There’s so much more I could say about this wonderful accommodation—it’s definitely a place I’d love to visit again!

It was excellent.
The Room was spacious and clean, with an open-air bath that was very enjoyable. However, I stayed in the West Wing, and it was a bit inconvenient that there was no direct path between the bath with a washing area and the open-air bath; you had to go through your Room. It seems that they are connected in the East Wing. The large waterfall was impressive, and the snowy scenery was breathtakingly beautiful.

The futon is not very comfortable.
A room like a thin futon, but the bath is good, so it's a pity.

This was my first ti...
This was my first time using the service, and I was impressed with the ingenuity of the private open-air bath. The staff were very friendly. The detached guest room was clean and comfortable. The meals were just the right amount, and they accommodated changes, which was satisfying. Next time, I will visit with my daughter and grandchild. Thank you very much.
