I’d love to stay here again.

We stayed with our 4-month-old baby. It was great that baby items were available to rent. We chose the Room “Fukujuso,” and being right beside the river, the views were amazing both from the Room and from the private open-air Onsen bath. Because you can hear the river constantly, it pleasantly masked our baby’s crying, so we could stay without worrying about disturbing others. The Onsen temperature felt a bit too hot for a baby, but we were told it was fine to adjust the temperature in the in-room bath by adding cooler shower water, which made it easy to bathe together without hesitation. Both the large public bath and the private reservable bath had a wonderful atmosphere, and throughout our stay we could truly relax while enjoying abundant nature right in front of us—it was fantastic. This is an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

    A Spontaneous Onsen Getaway

What drew me in was the riverside open-air bath overlooking the Shima River. The tub is truly close to the water—rather than “soaking while gazing at distant mountains,” it feels like you can hear the river flowing right below. The three private hot spring sources were also wonderful, and I could really feel the quality of the water. After bathing, my skin was genuinely silky smooth, and it even seemed to help a bit with my sensitivity to cold. Meals were a kaiseki course centered on mountain delicacies—more than satisfying for this price range. The flavors were simple and gentle, letting the ingredients shine, and everything was very fresh. In particular, the yamame trout in the kamameshi was so delicious that I ended up ordering an extra salt-grilled one (lol). If I write this here, I’m sure the staff will know exactly who I am. The service was kind throughout, and cleanliness inside the Ryokan was impeccable. I also loved the interior design—especially how comfortable it felt walking barefoot on the tatami. Overall, I think this is an Onsen Ryokan that fits its price range perfectly: unpretentious, welcoming, and truly relaxing. It was a spontaneous Onsen trip, but I’m glad we chose Toshimaya.

I’d love to stay here again.

Room “Hagi” was very spacious and clean. The meals—sashimi and the meat (Joshu beef kaiseki)—were both delicious. The in-Room bath and the large public bath had excellent hot spring water. The staff were courteous and did a great job (international staff). Our Room was on the third floor, and all access was via stairs. We were also relieved that the parking lot was spacious. We would like to stay again.

The staff were very kind and helpful, which made our stay wonderful. With this Plan, we were able to use the private bath free of charge. Since there are only a few guest rooms, we enjoyed a calm, relaxing atmosphere where we could clearly hear the sound of the clear stream. We would love to visit again if we have the chance.

At check-in, we were able to make a Reservation for the private bath and choose drinks for dinner. Dinner had gentle yet well-balanced flavors and was excellent. The local craft beer was also very easy to drink.

    Onsen is amazing!

It is a small accommodation, so it was quiet and comfortable. The quality of the hot spring water was excellent and felt very pleasant. However, the changing room was very small, making it difficult to change if three people overlapped. The room had a terrace, but the building's roof obstructed the view, so you couldn't see much of the sky or Shima River from there, and it didn't have a relaxing terrace atmosphere. The interior of the accommodation was kept clean, with thoughtful touches noticeable throughout. However, some unique rules specific to this accommodation felt slightly strict at times. That said, these rules also contributed to its comfort in their own way—it’s a delicate balance.

I stayed with a friend. The onsen and the attentive care of the staff were very soothing, and the locally sourced meals were incredibly delicious. Although it was a standard grade, we were completely satisfied. Highly recommended for couples or small groups looking for a quiet stay. It was a bit disappointing that the wind in the large public bath made it slightly chilly—perhaps due to the changing seasons.

    The Onsen is excellent.

I have always loved the water at Shima Onsen, and the Onsen in the room was excellent. However, for example, with the Satoyama Kaiseki meal, despite having a variety of mushrooms, it was disappointing to be told to simply put them all into a pot. Breakfast, including venison soup, was also underwhelming.

One more step to becoming an accommodation with many repeat guests!

Good Points: 1. The cleanliness of the facility was impeccable, reflecting readiness to welcome guests. The room cleaning was also thorough. 2. The large public bath, including the changing room, indoor bath, and open-air bath, was very well-maintained. This is crucial for accommodations and you have excelled in this challenging aspect—wonderful! 3. Staff service struck a perfect balance between attentiveness and giving space—very pleasant. 4. Meal serving service was accompanied by warm smiles. Requests: 1. For drinking water in the large public bath area, it would be better if colder water were provided as it felt room temperature; I didn’t feel like drinking it a second time. Paper cups might also be preferable for convenience. 2. Regarding slippers in the large public bath area, it would be helpful to have a way to identify one’s own pair (e.g., marker clips). Suggestions for Improvement: 1. This is just my personal opinion regarding meal menus—it feels somewhat unbalanced overall? Considering the cost allocation of dinner and breakfast within the accommodation fee as well as staffing challenges, I believe some adjustments could make a significant difference. 2. My biggest question is why deer sashimi was included among sashimi options? Even if it's local specialty food, it's too niche; all four members of our group left it untouched during our visit. Many women or elderly guests may not prefer such items either. It might be better to offer choices instead—for example: replacing fish with alternatives like yuba sashimi (tofu skin), konjac sashimi (jelly-like yam cake), or boiled mushrooms/wild vegetables served as substitutes with larger portions. These are entirely personal opinions and impressions—thank you for your understanding!

    Traditional Onsen Ryokan

First stay targeting walking distance to the ART event venue. Stuck in the traditional norms of an old Onsen Ryokan, opinions are divided. Frequent calls regardless of reservation channels can be overwhelming. The phrase "as stated" is proof of their inability to adapt.

    It was excellent.

I stayed in a room with a small open-air bath. The staff were all kind and attentive, and the room and other areas were well-cleaned, making my stay very comfortable. The open-air bath in the room was clean and could be used anytime, which was wonderful! For dinner, I chose the steak option, and everything was delicious with generous portions—very satisfying. Breakfast also had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious. I would love to visit again!

The bath, meals, room, and staff service were all excellent at this accommodation. We used the private bath, which had both an open-air and indoor option, and we were very satisfied! The hand towels in the room and during meals had cute designs, showing attention to detail that was delightful. It was an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Shima Onsen Trip

After the pandemic, I started traveling again and, as a fan of Shima Onsen, I stayed at Toyoshimaya Accommodation. I stayed in a room with an open-air bath and was very satisfied with its spaciousness and the stunning view. The onsen water was excellent, and I enjoyed multiple baths, which were truly rejuvenating for both body and mind. The open-air bath attached to the large public bath was also highly satisfying. The meals were incredibly delicious. I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

There is a significant difference between the two large public baths.

I stayed in the Room called "Kikyo," and the private bath in the room was more spacious than I expected, which was great. There are two large public baths that alternate by schedule, but their size and atmosphere were quite different. If you have a decent private bath in your room, you might not need to use the smaller outdoor public bath (which can only accommodate about 4 people). There were many foreign staff members, but communication was smooth, and they were very polite, dedicated, and left a positive impression.

The Onsen was very nice, and I liked the Room as well. I thought I would like to visit again.
