    The food was absolutely delicious!

I stayed with friends, and the food was so delicious that it truly made me happy. It made me want to come again with my family, and I want them to enjoy the meals too. The Room was clean, and the service was very pleasant. Since the Room we stayed in didn’t have a sofa, I felt it might be a bit difficult if I brought my elderly parents without one. Still, next time I’d like to visit with my husband and daughter.

The food was delicious! I’d love to visit again!

On short notice, we made a Reservation around midday and visited the same day. It was a wonderful Accommodation with outstanding cuisine and thoughtful hospitality. For dinner, we enjoyed abalone as both sashimi and sake-steamed; the liver sauce for the sashimi was exceptional—I even put the rest over rice. The swordfish was also superb, both as dinner sashimi and as braised cubes at breakfast. We had simmered golden eye snapper the next morning; at other Accommodations it can sometimes turn tough and disappointing, but here it was softly cooked and delicious. I felt sorry that we couldn’t finish everything and left a little behind. My husband dislikes one particular garnish, so I noted it in the pre-Reservation questionnaire even though I worried it might be inconvenient with a same-day Reservation—and they thoughtfully removed it only from his portion. In fact, I like that garnish, so I was happy mine still included it. Breakfast had been set out in advance, and we were delighted to see they had taken care to arrange things based on where we sat the day before. This is an Accommodation I would highly recommend to anyone who cares about food (especially seafood). If I may add one request: as someone who loves sake, I’d appreciate it if the sake list included not only brand names but also categories (such as Junmai Ginjo or Daiginjo). The way drinks were served was lovely. Their warm send-off also left us feeling uplifted on our way home. This time there was only one Room available so we had no choice, but next time we’d like to stay in a different type of Room.

    A Full-Course Seafood Meal!

I planned a stay at this Accommodation to help my elderly parents make happy memories. The fresh, delicious full-course seafood meal was outstanding. The boat platter was incredibly generous—luxurious, beautiful to look at, and absolutely delicious. The namero in particular was the best I’ve ever had. We also had one whole simmered golden eye snapper for the two of us. We were so full we couldn’t finish it, so they kindly saved one fish for the next morning. Even the standard meal without spiny lobster or abalone was lavish and more than we could finish—we were completely satisfied. The Onsen felt wonderful and I went in many times, but perhaps due to insufficient ventilation, the tatami-floored bath had a musty smell. The stone bath the next morning didn’t have that issue; the temperature was just right and it felt great. My mother, who loves Onsen, was delighted and went in again and again. Near the baths there was complimentary Pino ice cream available, so we helped ourselves every time we passed by—it was very tasty. Since this stay was for a celebration, they took photos for us and even presented them as a framed gift. It became a wonderful memory for my parents as well. Thank you very much.

    The meals are outstanding.

Dinner was packed with seafood and so plentiful we couldn’t finish it—very satisfying. We recommend keeping lunch light before your stay. Breakfast also used more than 20 ingredients and was well balanced. The staff were polite, friendly, and wonderful.

    It was a comfortable Accommodation.

The meals were delicious and satisfying, but the portions are too large for elderly guests, so I would like smaller portion options. Please add 7:00 as a breakfast time option. With breakfast at 8:00 and check-out at 10:00, there isn’t enough time after breakfast.

    Seafood Paradise

The building itself is small, and the large public bath is also compact, so it feels more intimate compared with other Ryokusuitei Yasuika properties. However, the meals were outstanding and in no way inferior to Ryokusuitei Yasuika. We expected one boat platter for four people, but it was one for every two people, and we were even served two simmered golden eye snapper—there was far more food than we could finish. Because the Ryokan rate is affordable, I’d like to drop by whenever I’m in the mood to enjoy lots of delicious food. Even though the Ryokan itself is small, there’s an all-you-can-drink space in the lobby with beer and coffee, and a water dispenser in the Room—hospitality that really feels unique to the Ryokusuitei group.

    An Accommodation with Delicious Fish

We arrived via the Accommodation’s Shuttle Service from the station, though it is also within walking distance. The bath is a bit small, but the Room is spacious and very comfortable. The meals were excellent—fresh and all delicious. This is an Accommodation we would like to stay at again.

Recommended for guests who want to relax in peace and quiet.

With staff who keep a comfortable distance, this Accommodation is perfect for guests who want a quiet stay and value privacy. It almost feels like the place is reserved just for you—you hardly see anyone except at meals and in the Onsen. As others have mentioned, the meal portions are generous. The simmered golden eye snapper and grilled fish head were especially delicious. Seafood lovers will be more than satisfied. On clear days you can enjoy a beautiful sunset, so if you plan to use the Onsen after check-in, it’s best to enjoy the Onsen early. Bringing the complimentary beer from the lobby back to your Room and watching the sunset with a drink is exceptional. (The photo shows the sunset viewed from the Room.) If you love seafood and want to spend some quiet time, this is a highly recommended Accommodation. [For first-time visitors arriving by car] You will use the parking lot across from the Accommodation, but please stop by the front desk to pick up a pass card before entering with your car. If you enter without a pass card, due to arrangements with other Accommodations you may have to exit once and re-enter, so picking up the pass card first will make parking smooth.

    The seafood dishes are exceptional!

My mother's family home is in the Sotobo area, so I have visited this area many times, but this was our first time staying at Umi no Niwa with my family. I am familiar with "Namero," but it was my first time trying it with vinegar, and it was delicious. Needless to say, the fish dishes were exceptional! The customer service and amenities were flawless. Having a water server in the Room is convenient for guests and helps reduce Ryokan staff workload. The futon was fluffy, allowing us to sleep comfortably. Although there was no open-air bath, which was a bit disappointing, the hot water quality was excellent. I also appreciated the cypress bath in the Room. Since it's a small Ryokan, there were no issues with crowding during bathing or meals, which we liked very much. The only concern we had was that during colder seasons like this one, our feet felt cold during meals or in the changing room despite having lap blankets provided—though we appreciated that gesture as well. Next time, I'd love to visit again with friends who are big fans of fish!

    The cuisine is exceptional.

I chose this accommodation because it has a limited number of rooms and excellent reviews about the food. Both dinner and breakfast were perfect and exceptional. My companion was also very satisfied, saying there was absolutely nothing to complain about. It was convenient not having to bring towels from the room, and I could feel thoughtful touches in various places throughout the accommodation. Lastly, two staff members waved us off at departure, which felt like a rare and heartwarming scene in this modern era.

    I was very satisfied.

We stayed in Katsuura for a night to enjoy golf and delicious food, and it was our first time using this accommodation. The building itself is old, but it has been stylishly renovated. The Room was very clean and well-maintained. Amenities such as a hairdryer and towels were also provided. As for the meal we were looking forward to, we enjoyed an incredible amount of seafood dishes that were almost too much to finish. My husband joked that we wouldn’t be able to eat seafood for a while after this, but we still managed to finish everything without leaving any behind. Perhaps reducing the dinner portion slightly and increasing the breakfast portion might be a good idea? When leaving, they waved at us until our car was out of sight, which made us very happy. We were extremely satisfied with our stay and would love to visit again. Thank you so much!

    First Stay

We truly appreciate your communication regarding allergy ingredients and disliked foods prior to your stay. The room was spacious enough for two people and very comfortable. The cypress bath in the room had a wonderful aroma that was truly relaxing. We might have indulged a bit too much in the beer from the self-serve beer server near the front desk (laughs). Although the dining area is not private, it is sectioned off into parts, so it didn’t bother us much. Dinner was incredibly generous in portion size... It’s rare to enjoy such an abundance of seafood! Everything was absolutely delicious. The broth, in particular, stood out as exceptional. As for breakfast, it might have been the best we’ve ever had—visually delightful and flavorful as well... The miso soup warmed our bodies deeply. We are sincerely grateful for all your thoughtful arrangements. Next time, I’d love to visit with my husband! It truly turned out to be a wonderful trip!

An Accommodation to Fulfill Filial Piety

Thank you for your hospitality during my father's recovery celebration. We searched thoroughly for a place that met our conditions: delicious meals, an elevator, a room with an open-air bath, a small ryokan with few rooms, and a view of the sea. The hostess kindly contacted us multiple times to accommodate changes in meal preferences. Since my father has weak legs and cannot go to the bath alone, he enjoyed the cypress bath in our room while admiring the view. Of course, we could stay nearby to keep an eye on him. My mother and I shared heartfelt moments watching the setting sun from the private open-air bath next to our room. The smooth movement within the facility gave us peace of mind. I am deeply grateful for your support in fulfilling my personal wishes as a daughter. This is truly an exceptional accommodation where I imagine many guests return repeatedly. Next time, we hope to visit as a family again! To everyone at this accommodation—thank you so much! *Regarding the quality of onsen water: it’s just that I personally prefer spring water that gushes up from underfoot.*

    It exceeded expectations.

A year ago, I had to cancel my accommodation reservation due to a typhoon, but this time I finally made it for a long-awaited stay. The meals were the highlight of the trip, featuring an impressive sashimi boat platter, abalone dish for each person, grilled amberjack head, deep-fried scorpionfish, and simmered golden-eye snapper. Everything was absolutely satisfying. Breakfast was equally delightful with 16 small dishes including dried horse mackerel and chilled tofu. During the summer holiday period, we also enjoyed a fireworks display at night. If I had to point out one drawback, it would be that since it's a cozy accommodation, the public bath isn't very spacious—especially the changing area felt slightly cramped (it might accommodate two people at most). However, the cypress bath in our room was excellent. The staff's hospitality was extremely attentive and made us feel glad we chose this accommodation.

Room with window seat but no view

When choosing an accommodation, there are various points to consider: listed prices, descriptions, photos, reviews, and comparisons with other accommodations. For my mother’s birthday and our first trip together in a while, I carefully selected this place. However... The room was supposed to have the open window view shown in the photos. Instead, the window was covered with a sheet that blocked any view outside. Only by stretching up could I barely peek through a small uncovered section at the top of the sheet—only to see an air conditioning system obstructing any scenery. It was truly disappointing. Upon arriving at the room, I had hoped to sit back and enjoy looking outside slowly. While it wasn’t positioned for sunset views, I had been looking forward to seeing the sunrise—but this experience left me quite shocked. Since all rooms were fully booked that day, changing rooms wasn’t possible. Instead, they offered us a table with an outdoor view during dinner and one complimentary drink as compensation. However, not being able to see outside from our room felt like too big of a compromise. I believe there should be specific plans for rooms with windows covered by sheets or prior notice during reservation about such conditions. Additionally, when asking questions to one staff member in charge of us during our stay, their responses often felt inexperienced and unprofessional—this left me feeling uncomfortable as well. For instance, when replacing my soy sauce-stained yukata (robe), they placed it directly on the floor which shocked me greatly. That said though—other staff members provided excellent service! The food was delicious; both cleanliness within our room along with thoughtful amenities like water dispensers or complimentary treats such as beer & ice cream added delightful touches throughout! Still—it remains deeply regrettable how different reality turned out compared against advertised information regarding having no proper external views available inside certain accommodations here today!

    It was excellent.

This was my first time using this accommodation, and personally, it was the best I've ever stayed at. It's a bit old, but in a charming way. With only 6 rooms, the bath is always private (in a good way). The meals are hearty and delicious. It might be the first time I've genuinely wanted to visit again.

    The food was absolutely delicious!

Thank you for your hospitality. What left the most impression overall was the delicious meals and the cleanliness of the facility. To be honest, I was quite disappointed when I saw the exterior, but that impression completely changed as soon as I entered and saw the Room. The Room was clean, spacious, and very functional, with a comfortable bed to sleep on. The lounge was a bit small, but having free cold draft beer was a delightful touch. Having bath towels and face towels always available in the bath area is definitely a high Point Rate for me—plus there were even ice creams like "Pino." As mentioned in my title, both breakfast and dinner were incredibly delicious—though perhaps with slightly too much volume! I was looking forward to fireworks but found them underwhelming; however, being able to watch them from within a cool Room made up for it. Lastly, all of your staff members were very pleasant and welcoming. The frozen mineral water provided at checkout during this intense summer heat showed great thoughtfulness—it was much appreciated! Thank you so much!

This is the ultimate spot for seafood!

I have stayed at many ryokans, but the fish dishes here are exceptionally fresh and delicious, and the portion sizes are astonishing. There is also a wide variety of fish dishes. This is a wonderful accommodation highly recommended for those who want to enjoy plenty of fish cuisine. The private open-air bath with a view of the sea was also fantastic.

    Beyond expectations

As a returning guest, I skipped lunch this time because I was so impressed by the deliciousness and portions of the food last time, and once again, it exceeded my expectations. The fresh seafood dishes were all incredibly tasty. The staff's service was excellent, and the Room was clean and well-maintained, making for a very pleasant stay. I also enjoyed the rooftop open-air bath as well as the two types of baths on the first floor. As I'm getting older and finding fried foods a bit heavy, it would be helpful if there were an option to substitute another dish for the deep-fried scorpionfish. Thank you very much; I look forward to visiting again!

    Highly rated!

The exterior is old and compact, which made me a bit anxious until I stepped inside... However, the interior has been beautifully renovated and felt very clean. The warm welcome was prompt and polite, with cold barley tea served during check-in. Meanwhile, our luggage was kindly carried to our room. The room was spotless, and I didn’t feel the age of the building at all. What surprised me was the free drink service—beer on tap available as much as you like! Enjoying a cold beer before or after a bath was simply amazing. There’s even a water dispenser in the room—a very thoughtful touch by this accommodation. In the large public bath area, there were free ice cream treats (Pino), which added to the delight! As for meals, rather than focusing on quantity, they showcased meticulous attention to detail in their preparation. It wasn’t overly extravagant but full of care and consideration that made my stay incredibly pleasant and satisfying. This is an accommodation I’d love to visit again someday. Thank you so much!

    Warm your heart and body

I have used this property 3 to 4 times. Of course, I am satisfied with the deliciousness and quantity of the food, but what I feel every time is the quality service and smiles of the staff at the ryokan, which are very soothing. It's neither too formal nor too indifferent, and I feel that there are not many ryokans that provide the kind of service that makes people feel "comfortable." I will continue to use this property in the future.

This is a very good Stays.

Location: The location is by the seaside, near the port. The view is not particularly scenic, but you can see the sea. It is close to a wide road, which is not bad, but it is far from the nearest highway. Facility: It seems to be an old building, but it appears to have been repeatedly renovated, and the guest rooms and baths were cleaner than when I visited 4-5 years ago. Onsen: The large public bath is on the first floor, and while it has no special features, it has been newly renovated. The private bath is on the fifth floor, open-air, and offers a view of the sea. Service: I think the service is friendly and good. After bathing, there is a free beer server, and you can enjoy unlimited well-chilled beer. Dining: I think this is the biggest selling point of this Ryokan. A variety of fresh seafood is served in abundance. The sashimi platter includes 7-8 types such as red gurnard, amberjack, yellowtail, sea bream, and flounder, and I find the namero here particularly delicious. The deep-fried scorpionfish and abalone sashimi were also tasty. The grilled fish head was good, and the fish soup was rich and delicious. The simmered golden eye snapper was delicious, but I couldn't finish it at dinner, so it was served for breakfast. It is recommended for fish lovers, and I think you will be satisfied. The breakfast was also quite good. Overall: This is not a Property aimed at onsen or surrounding scenery, but rather a Property aimed at seafood dining. You will be served so much that you might think you’ve had enough fish for a while. I think the cost performance is good.

    Delicious meals

Thank you for your hospitality. It was a small property, but the hospitality and meals were very good. The meals, especially the dinner, were fish-based and all were fresh. Also, the boat platter was surprisingly large for two people, and we were very satisfied with the meal, which included abalone and Ise lobster. Unfortunately, the weather was bad on the day we visited, and we couldn't see the sunset or sunrise, which was very disappointing, but we were able to relax. Thank you for the peaceful time. We would like to visit again next time.

A property where you can feel attention to detail

A cozy Stays with a total of 6 rooms across 5 floors. The room was spacious enough for a couple to stay comfortably. Since the room's private bath only had a shower booth without a bathtub, there was a service that allowed guests to use the normally paid private open-air bath on the 5th floor. Although there was a large public bath on the 1st floor, the view from the open-air bath on the 5th floor was spectacular. Dinner was a feast of seafood, served raw, grilled, fried, and simmered, ensuring you would be full! It was also appreciated that if you couldn't finish the simmered golden eye snapper at dinner, it would be served at breakfast. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of side dishes, ensuring a full stomach in the morning as well. Here are some service points that left an impression: 〇 The reception and meal service were attentive, indicating well-trained staff. 〇 A water server was installed in the room (Umihotaru), making it convenient to drink whenever thirsty. 〇 Near the front desk, there was a beer server (also coffee, etc.) available for free, which was a delightful service during hot seasons. 〇 The service of serving leftover simmered fish from dinner at breakfast was gentle on a full stomach. 〇 After exiting the bath on the 1st floor, ice cream (Pino) was freely available. 〇 Upon departure, we received a frozen water bottle, which was useful for keeping purchased seafood cool and later served as hydration once melted. These services might be seasonal, but they were delightful services that showed the property's thoughtfulness.
