A stay immersed in the beauty of architecture and folk crafts

We used this Hotel as a base for a family trip around Shimane and Tottori. What impressed us most was the design philosophy that permeates the entire space and the superbly curated displays. While making full use of the commanding presence of this historic building, Tottori folk crafts and furnishings were meticulously arranged so their materials and textures resonate with one another. Rather than simply lining up individual masterpieces, it is rare to find a space where a classic architectural structure and contemporary craftsmanship share context so beautifully and are integrated so seamlessly. The cuisine course we enjoyed at dinner was also stunning, allowing us to fully appreciate the appeal of local ingredients. We stayed with children, and thanks to your offering a half-course for them, our whole family was able to relax and enjoy a high-quality dining experience together. We truly appreciate your thoughtful hospitality. In winter, we would love to return to try your famous hot pot as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

    短い夏休み

If you’re staying in Kurayoshi, this is the place.

As it has only recently opened, the Accommodation was very clean. A space where a sense of history blends harmoniously with comfortable Facilities. We were very satisfied with both the meals and the hospitality of the staff. Highly recommended if you are staying in Kurayoshi.

    My wife and I stayed...

My wife and I stayed in Room 3 at Ogawaya, and it was a wonderful Accommodation. The Room spans the first and second floors, connected by a veranda and corridor. The garden extends from the front entrance to an inner courtyard and all the way to the separate bath building, creating a serene residence with a refined atmosphere where you can enjoy the garden and scenery from the verandas on both floors. The bath building has one side of the bathing area made entirely of glass, allowing us to relax in the bath while looking out at the lush green trees in the garden glowing in the morning sun. As an Accommodation designated as a prefectural cultural property, it offered an exceptionally elegant experience unlike anything we had ever had before. For meals, both the course dinner at the restaurant and the breakfast set featured carefully prepared dishes using local ingredients, making for a delicious and enjoyable time. Thank you to all of your staff. We would love to stay again.

I ended up staying in the rear gate storehouse at the very back of Kazeno Kurayoshi Takata Residence.

More than half of the guest Rooms at Kaze no Kurayoshi are renovated storehouse-style accommodations. The Ogawa House Rooms are also very appealing, but for true storehouse lovers, the lineup of kura stays is irresistible. This time, I was able to Reserve a Room in the Rear Gate Storehouse, located at the very back of the Takata House property, for the first time—so I went and stayed there. After checking in at the front desk in the main Ogawa House residence, I walked about 100 meters west along Yatsuhashi Orai (the road in front) and arrived at Takata House. Guided by staff, I passed through the impressive entrance and under Kaze’s signature white noren curtain, then continued deeper into the property to the building I had reserved. The Room is a two-story space. Upon entering, there is a hall with a wash area and bathroom on one side and a toilet as well. The bath is a light-green stone bath—wonderful! The bedroom is upstairs. Climbing the gentle stairs and opening the door reveals bold pine beams overhead. As it’s an old building, the beams are set low—I’m tall enough that my head nearly touches them. There’s also a skylight in the ceiling that lets in bright daylight. At dinner time, I moved to the restaurant by Takata House’s entrance for my meal. The staff carefully explained each ingredient and dish. Everything—from Tottori mountain vegetables to seafood—was fresh and delicious, making it truly a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. For drinks, I had about three glasses of Hōshū wine; it seems to be made in a neighboring town and was selected with food pairing in mind. After dinner, I returned to my Room and relaxed while listening to jazz on the provided Bluetooth speaker. I took another bath as well—the filled stone tub was spacious enough to stretch out comfortably. Nights in a storehouse make me sleep deeply; it’s become something of an addiction. In the morning, sunlight from the skylight woke me up—it was such a pleasant start to day. Breakfast was rice porridge with mountain vegetables and other dishes—delicious! Overall satisfaction: maxed out. After eating, I headed back to Ogawa House’s front desk for check-out because of my next plans. When they let me take a quick look around Ogawa House too, it made me want to stay there next time as well. I left Kaze no Kurayoshi strongly hoping to stay again at this cultural heritage property someday soon.
