The price-to-value balance is…
Because it’s new, the Room and Facility are nice, but there is a subtle step inside the Room. It may look good from a design standpoint, but I felt it was very dangerous. As for the meals, the portions were good, but it was a bit disappointing that paella was the main dish on both nights of our two-night stay. Since it was during the Obon holiday period, it may have been unavoidable to some extent, but overall I felt the experience didn’t match what we paid.

Disappointing Accommodation
This was a disappointing Accommodation in many ways. When I asked about access from the port, the call center representative was not familiar with local information and could not provide a clear answer. The spa and infinity pool were small, and the view was filled with surrounding visual noise (large Hotels, private homes, etc.), which made it hard to feel like I was on a resort getaway. The Room also felt cheaply built; the lighting plan was overly functional and didn’t provide comfortable brightness, the switches were hard to understand, and there was no water provided. I assumed these items were intentionally omitted as unnecessary, but there were also no notes or pen provided. When I called in the morning to request a taxi, it was handled by the call center again; they said they could not arrange it and asked me to go to the front desk myself. I understand staffing may be difficult, but this is not an inexpensive Hotel, and excessive operational streamlining seems to be negatively affecting service. Rather than this Hotel itself, my stay left me seriously questioning management’s approach, and I do not plan to stay at any Hotels in the same group again.

This was my first tr...
This was my first trip to Shodoshima. I was a bit worried because the Reviews were mixed, but I ended up very satisfied—probably helped by visiting on an affordable date and having great weather. It’s a new Hotel, so it can feel a little confusing at first, but it seems they’re improving their operations, and the staff checked in with us. The pool is long and narrow, but we used it at a quiet time and really enjoyed it. The reclining chairs and jacuzzi were also great. The sauna has a view, high heat, self-service löyly, a cold plunge bath, and outdoor relaxation while looking out at the sea—sauna lovers will probably find it irresistible. Water and fruit punch were also available. For dinner we bought olive-fed beef at a supermarket and grilled it in our Room. The kitchen equipment is well stocked. I couldn’t find dish soap, but I assume they would bring some if you ask. Until evening there were complimentary self-serve drinks (including wine and shochu). The Room was spacious and had four beds, so it seems popular for families or groups of friends traveling together.

Back on Shodoshima after a long time
This was my first time back to Shodoshima in 15 years. The kids really enjoyed it. It’s a new, modern Hotel, and both the Facility and the views are wonderful. Most of the dinner and breakfast dishes use local island ingredients—healthy and stylish meals. My husband and I especially loved the breakfast.

A Gift Trip for My Mother
I chose this Hotel as a gift for my mother, who wanted to relax while looking out over the Seto Inland Sea. The Room offered a stunning, unobstructed ocean view, and we were very satisfied. However, I felt the restaurant did not match the high standard of this wonderful Room. I think it would be better to offer more refined and delicious dishes that make greater use of local ingredients. There may be good restaurants nearby, but if the Hotel is aiming to position itself as a luxury property, I would appreciate further improvements to the restaurant.

The Facility is excellent, but the meals are like those at a family restaurant.
The Room was wonderful and worthy of the price—up to 500,000 yen per night—but honestly, I was disappointed with the meals. They felt like frozen food and were not at all worth this rate.

I selected the wrong option.
This is a new-style Hotel, likely aimed at younger guests. It’s probably not suitable for older people. There is no Onsen and no hospitality—it was completely disappointing. I chose the wrong place.

It was perfect for an adults-only girls’ trip with my daughters.
My first trip to Shodoshima, and choosing this Hotel after so much deliberation was absolutely the right decision! The system felt very modern—I was a bit confused at first, but my daughters loved it. The staff’s approach was also just right: attentive without being overbearing. At the thermal spa, I lost track of time, soothed by the incredible views and feeling completely refreshed. The simple, stylish Room was also very comfortable to use. We intentionally didn’t add dinner to our plan and chose to dine directly at the restaurant instead, which turned out great. With drinks, we enjoyed salad, carpaccio, ajillo, and paella—everything was delicious. My daughters raved about how great the value was compared with the city! Breakfast suited our tastes as well—perfect for adult women. A Hotel where one night isn’t enough; I’d love to stay longer and truly relax. Both Shodoshima and this Hotel became wonderful memories for us. Thank you very much. I’d definitely like to stay again!!

A stay that fell short of expectations for the price
Among the Hotels I have stayed at, this one left a particularly disappointing impression in terms of service. Considering the Accommodation Fee, my overall satisfaction was low. [Facilities] On the first floor, there is little separation between the front desk and the restaurant, and depending on the time of day it felt quite noisy. I was hoping for a quiet stay, so that was disappointing. There is a pool and sauna on the second floor, but the pool is relatively small. If you are expecting a larger facility, it may be best to check the size in advance. From the third floor upward, it seems to be guest rooms only, and I found the range of on-site facilities somewhat lacking. [Staff] At night in the rain, I asked for guidance to find where to park, but it was dark and difficult to see around. Even so, I did not feel that sufficient guidance or consideration was provided. Overall, the reception staff came across as somewhat cold. In particular, what seemed to be a manager’s response was disappointing for someone expecting hospitality. [Cleanliness] At check-in, there were moments when it felt like cleaning in the restaurant had not been thorough enough. At breakfast as well, tables did not seem to be cleared quickly enough after use, and it was hard to say it was an environment where you could relax and enjoy your meal. In addition, there were areas around some facilities where dust stood out, which felt inconsistent with its image as a new property. [Dinner] This time we did not use the Hotel restaurant. The menu did not match what we wanted, so we ate at nearby restaurants instead. As an overall stay experience including dining on-site (or lack thereof), it fell short of expectations. It may have been shortly after opening new operations began here; however I felt that service quality did not match its Accommodation Fee level. I also contacted their operating company; including their follow-up response afterwards my experience remained unsatisfactory. I will not return. That said local people we met on Shodoshima were very kind and warm; overall our trip itself was satisfying. That is why this Hotel stay alone felt especially disappointing.

The views are outstanding, but there are issues with the meals and the kitchen.
The ocean and island views from the room were stunning, and I was impressed by the protruding exterior wall design that blocks unnecessary sightlines. The room itself was clean and comfortable. With the windows fully open and sitting on the terrace, we could enjoy a pleasant breeze. On the other hand, because our windows faced the same level as the pool, we could continuously hear children’s voices depending on the time of day, which was a bit bothersome. Service is largely automated, so there weren’t many opportunities to interact with staff enough to evaluate it—though in its own way, it was convenient. After checking the dinner menu in advance, we chose to cook for ourselves because it didn’t seem easy for elementary-school-age children or younger to eat. The kitchen has basic equipment such as a microwave and a two-burner IH cooktop, but for actual cooking it felt lacking—items like a colander and mixing bowls, enough trash bins, and mesh bags for taking out garbage. It would also be helpful to have consumables such as plastic wrap, paper towels, and kitchen towels. Having a supermarket and liquor store nearby is convenient. Breakfast had similar limitations in child-friendly options. For example, simple choices like somen noodles with dipping sauce or bread with plain jam would be appreciated. From photos alone beforehand, it was hard to fully picture what meals would be like or how easy self-catering would be; more specific information would make it easier to decide.

It was such a wonder...
It was such a wonderful Room that staying only one night truly felt like a waste. The breathtaking ocean view from the large windows is stunning, and you can simply gaze at it and lose track of time. Next time I visit Shodoshima, I will stay here for a Multiple Night Stay.

I was looking forward to the spa, but...
We stayed as a family to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Before our stay, the staff kindly helped us by email with planning a surprise for him, and since it was a new Hotel, we were really looking forward to it. The Room was more than spacious enough for our family of four. We already knew what the meal would be, so we enjoyed it very much, and after dinner—thanks to the staff’s support—the surprise for my husband was a great success. Thank you so much! However, when we went to the spa we had been most excited about, we were shocked to find several families with children being extremely loud. From the website and social media, it looked like an adult-oriented space, so I never expected people to be playing with beach balls or adults seriously swimming laps. My husband and I and our children (in their teens and twenties) used the jacuzzi while trying to avoid the noisy families, but I felt especially sorry for couples who came expecting a relaxing atmosphere. If the atmosphere shown on social media is what you aim for, I think measures are needed—such as limiting hours for children of elementary-school age or younger—otherwise it just feels like an ordinary pool. As things are now, my honest impression is that I cannot recommend it for an adults-only trip. (If many guests come with children, it would also be nice if juice and similar options were available at the drink bar in each building.) It is such a wonderful space overall, so I hope you will consider these points so future guests do not leave with disappointing memories.

We had a wonderful time with our children.
We stayed with a 0-year-old and a 3-year-old. We went out during the day and their clothes got dirty, but there was a washer-dryer so we could wash everything right away! Also, the terrace was spacious and the view was beautiful, so our daughter practiced the violin outside. Next time, we’d love to stay longer. The beds were very fluffy and the kids slept really well. The spa was also great—there aren’t many places where children are allowed, so they really enjoyed it. One suggestion: there wasn’t a high chair for kids at mealtimes, so it would be nice if one were available.

A Stay to Enjoy the Views and the Sauna
I stayed here on my first visit to Shodoshima. The sky was unfortunately cloudy at check-in, but the view from the Room was still beautiful, and I was able to spend a relaxing time while looking out over the calm Seto Inland Sea. The thermal spa I had been especially looking forward to exceeded my expectations. As I moved between the sauna, cold plunge bath, outdoor relaxation area, and jacuzzi at an easy pace, I realized that nearly two hours had passed in no time. It was a truly relaxing space. The Room was also spacious and comfortable, allowing me to unwind and recover from my trip. The next morning was sunny; I enjoyed a delicious breakfast made with local ingredients before checking out. It was a wonderful Accommodation that I would definitely like to stay at again when visiting Shodoshima.

We traveled with our children!
I stayed here with mom friends—2 adults and 3 children. The Room was very spacious, and with four beds, we had more than enough space even as friends, so we could relax comfortably. Having a fully equipped kitchen and a washer-dryer in the Room was truly helpful for traveling with kids. The spa we had been looking forward to had pleasantly hot water, so even in winter we could enjoy it without worrying about the kids getting chilled afterward. The sauna temperature was just right, and refreshing outdoors afterward was simply amazing. For dinner, we picked up local seafood at a nearby supermarket and enjoyed drinks together with the free-flow available until midnight. Breakfast was buffet-style with plenty of local ingredients; the sandwiches were especially delicious. Our kids loved the mixed rice and ate more than usual. It’s easy to reach from Tokyo using public transportation only, and with rental bikes right in front of the Hotel plus convenient bus service, getting around the island was smooth. Next time, I’d love to come back for a family trip with my husband as well.

My spouse and I stay...
My spouse and I stayed in a bunk Room. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how a bunk bed would feel, but it was surprisingly not cramped at all—more like a fun little hideout. The Room was simple yet very clean, and the ocean view from the window was incredibly soothing. The changing sky and sea throughout the day were especially memorable: in the evening everything turned a soft orange, at night it became quiet and serene, and in the morning the light poured in and sparkled. It was amazing how the same view could look completely different—I found myself gazing out the window again and again. The best part was the spa. Since swimwear is allowed, we could enjoy it together as a couple, which was a big plus. There was a warm pool, a jacuzzi, a spacious sauna, and even a cold plunge—before I knew it, we were going back and forth between them. Taking time to simply relax while feeling the fresh air outside was truly refreshing; it felt like everyday fatigue slowly melted away. Being able to lounge comfortably in a bathrobe made it even easier—I may have spent more time there than anywhere else during our stay. It’s not overly flashy, but it still feels special—an ideal Hotel for an adults-only style refresh getaway. I’d love to return in another season.

It was my first time staying at a Hotel without a front desk.
The main concept here seems to be labor-saving automation. Check-in is done in a corner of the attached restaurant, and there are no Room keys or key cards (entry/exit is via QR code), which felt like a very modern style and was a bit confusing at first. Since there is no front desk, there is of course no concierge or bell captain. Even if you arrive early, there is no lobby space where you can relax. If you want to leave your luggage before check-in, you have to thread a wire through your suitcase yourself, like at an inexpensive golf course. Other bags are placed by yourself into something like station coin lockers. That said, the Room was more than spacious enough with a full ocean view; the bath was large, and the beds were king-size twins—nothing to complain about. Most of the lighting was sensor-activated as well, making everything very functional. Breakfast and dinner are Western-style only, but the time slots are flexible and very convenient. The carpaccio and paella served at dinner were quite tasty. Once you get used to the system, it’s very comfortable—but especially for older guests like me, I think the lack of a front desk can make quite an impact at check-in.
