Amazing! It was an absolutely blissful time!!

During our mother-and-daughter trip to Kyoto to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday, we had the pleasure of staying here. Although I have visited Kyoto many times, I wasn’t very familiar with this area and felt a bit uneasy at first. However, walking along the Shirakawa River lined with graceful willow trees was wonderfully soothing and brought me a deep sense of calm. The Accommodation blends quietly into the neighborhood, and from the lobby to the Room, everything is unified in a simple modern Japanese style—clean, uncluttered, and extremely comfortable. Perhaps each Room is decorated to match its name; in our Room called “Hotarubi,” there were firefly motifs on the wall, which felt beautifully tasteful. We stayed in a Superior Twin Room, and it was very spacious. The toilet area, bath/vanity area, and living space were all separated by partitions, creating a relaxed and luxurious layout—one of my favorite points. What my mother loved most was the generously sized hinoki cypress bath. She found the scent so calming that she enjoyed it two or three times. We were also deeply touched by your thoughtful 80th birthday message and bouquet. To everyone at Accommodation Akekure who welcomed us with warm hospitality from check-in to check-out: thank you for such a wonderful stay. Hearing my usually reserved mother say “I want to stay here again” made me truly happy as well. We would love to visit again!

    I’m glad I chose this.

This was my first stay here with my daughter. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The Room was lovely, and the charming view right in front of us made me feel glad we came to Kyoto. The hinoki bath was also very relaxing. Breakfast was delicious as well. I would love to visit again.

    What a relief!

This Hotel is located along the Shirakawa River and is quiet and very nice. The Facility is new and clean, and although the bath in the Room is not an Onsen, it had a pleasant hinoki cypress fragrance and was very relaxing. It was also conveniently located for sightseeing, so we were able to make good use of our time and visit many places. Breakfast was delicious as well, with a Kyoto-style menu. Thank you very much.

It was a clean and very comfortable Hotel. The staff were kind and welcoming, and for us—who don’t like large Hotels—it felt more like an Accommodation than a Hotel. One disappointing point was breakfast: we were taken aback by how carelessly a male cook in a white jacket served the food. The female staff, on the other hand, were attentive and considerate, checking in with us kindly. Since one of the joys of travel is meeting people, it was unfortunate that the start of our morning felt so disappointing.

We were able to relax by the Shirakawa River.

Lately, Hotels in Kyoto have kept getting more expensive, and even when I think “this looks great,” it’s hard to keep staying often enough to make it a regular. And on a three-day weekend around the vernal equinox, the prices are especially daunting. In that context, I found this newly opened place on IKYU. I’ve recently been a fan of the Oike/Okazaki area, but I thought it would be nice to enjoy an early-morning walk in Higashiyama (though I ended up oversleeping and didn’t go). Using 20% IKYU Points, we went ahead and stayed here. It’s a charming five-story Hotel with only nine Rooms, right in front of the Shirakawa River. Our Room was on the third floor (Deluxe Twin Room with River View “Ouraku”), and we could enjoy both the flow of the Shirakawa and the ridgelines of Higashiyama. It’s listed as 43 m²; with two double beds and a large flat sofa in a spacious bedroom, plus a hinoki bath, double-sink vanity area, and a large closet, it truly felt relaxing and roomy. It’s not exactly ultra-luxury, but the design details throughout may appeal to international travelers while still feeling refined and calm. The brand-new hinoki bath also smelled wonderful. The first-floor lounge also serves as the breakfast restaurant; there’s an impressive variety of free-flow drinks, snacks, and sweets—and even wine choices that made me hesitate between red, white, or sparkling. Breakfast is delivered from a nearby small Japanese eatery; it was seasoned a bit salty for my taste, but the grilled fish was plump and tender, and the tuna sashimi was fresh and delicious. All staff were friendly; at checkout they came out front to wave us off. Above all else, there’s nothing like the luxury of staying right by the Shirakawa River—just walking around instantly eases your mind. Chion-in Temple and Yasaka Shrine are also just a short walk away. For dinner we had bento on our first night since it got late; on our second night we went out for Italian food in Okazaki—but with this location you’ll never run out of places to eat (oban-zai dishes included). And yet it’s so quiet here—I highly recommend it.
