Above all, the meals were excellent—we could really taste the quality of Awaji Island’s local ingredients. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to use your proud sauna.

A meditative retreat-like stay that feels truly abundant

I visited this time as a birthday gift for my friend and myself, and it was a truly special place worthy of the occasion. Contemporary art is displayed throughout the property, reflecting the owner’s refined aesthetic and attention to detail. At the same time, the Room and Facility are very simple—nothing unnecessary—making it the perfect environment to savor Awaji Island’s slow, relaxed pace. What left the strongest impression was the cuisine centered around wood-fire cooking. Dinner was French yet wonderfully light, and their commitment to local production for local consumption came through in every dish. The young chef’s creative sensibility was outstanding—especially the sauces! In particular, an abalone liver sauce and a browned-butter sauce served with butterfish were exquisite; I kept dipping bread into them until the very last bite. Dessert was also a new experience: a melon soda made from fermented melon purée brought to a gently sparkling stage! Breakfast was equally superb, featuring enzyme brown rice aged for more than four days. The most moving dish was the clear soup. Even the fermented shrimp-, kelp-, and soy-sauce base used for it was homemade specifically for this meal. Throughout everything, their dedication to ingredients and natural use of fermentation made me feel energized from within. The sauna wasn’t overly hot, so even I—someone who isn’t great with saunas—could enjoy it comfortably, and that deep sense of release afterward felt like true meditation. All staff members were kind and friendly as well, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. Although it was an Accommodation stay, it felt like a retreat. My mind had been busy lately, but this visit helped me return to quietness in both heart and head—and regain my natural strength. It was a genuinely enriching stay.

    I’m glad I stayed here.

We had a relaxing stay. The meals were outstanding. Each dish left such a strong impression that I still remember the flavors and textures even now. The staff’s smiles and conversations are also wonderful memories. Our Room didn’t have a view, but it was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The amenities were more than sufficient. We would definitely love to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful time.

An auberge led by a young, exceptionally talented chef and a manager with genuine warmth and charm.

The Hotel itself is stylish, but the design is simple. What truly makes this Hotel special is the wonderful people who run it. Not only was the chef’s skill outstanding (the cooking temperature and aroma were perfect), but their personality was also exceptional. The manager’s thoughtful attention to detail was equally impressive, and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. A small point: it would have been even better if disposable slippers were provided in the guest room (some guests may feel uncomfortable using the same slippers in both the room and when using the toilet). I’m looking forward to seeing this become an even more appealing Accommodation. I will definitely visit again.

    It was the best vacation.

On my first trip to Awaji Island, I stayed at THEBLESS Awaji. The magma-style sauna is set at 65°C, which is on the lower side for a sauna, but it’s a gentle temperature that’s easy on the body. I was able to relax and reset without any strain, and it felt amazing. You can experience the best kind of “sauna bliss.” It’s worth visiting even just for the sauna!! From the amuse-bouche onward, the food carried a subtle aroma of firewood, creating an atmosphere and flavors you don’t usually get to experience. I really enjoyed Awaji Island’s fresh new onions!! I’ll definitely stay here again when I travel to Awaji Island!!

We visited for a special anniversary and our excitement never dipped throughout the course. From the very first dish to the final dessert, every plate met—and often exceeded—our anticipation of what would come next. Original fermented seasonings were subtly woven into many dishes, making it even more enjoyable to realize afterward, “So that was the secret.”

    Birthday Trip

We visited for my grandmother’s birthday. It’s newly opened and very clean, and even though we were staying at a Hotel, the food was better than many restaurants—we were truly impressed. When we mentioned it was her birthday, they brought flowers and shared lots of sightseeing recommendations. The service was excellent, and the amenities were high-quality and thoughtfully selected, which made our stay even better. It was my first time trying a magma sauna, so I was curious. I don’t like regular saunas because the dry heat is uncomfortable for me, but this sauna had steam as well despite being hot, so it was very easy to use—I went in three times. It seems you can make a Reservation for just the restaurant without staying overnight, so I’d like to visit again when I’m in the area.

    Simply the best!

I was amazed to learn that this beautiful space was originally a 65-year-old Ryokan. But it wasn’t just the building that surprised me—it was what arrived on the plate. A simple dish of vegetables from their own farm, grilled over a wood fire, was every bit as delicious as what you’d find at Tokyo’s top restaurants. Now I understand what “cuisine that lets the ingredients speak” really means. Watching the open-kitchen performance was also great fun, and I had a truly happy time. ¥20,000 for this level of quality is a bargain. I’ll be back!

    A Memorable Trip

It was a night that made me truly glad I came to Awaji Island. The Awaji beef, grilled over a wood fire, left an unforgettable contrast between its fragrant, seared exterior and its tender, juicy center. Fermented seasonings were used throughout, adding remarkable depth to every dish. It was an intellectually satisfying experience—eating while wondering what makes it taste so incredibly good.

    The bath was wonderful!

The Room is spacious, the amenities are thoughtfully selected, and authentic modern art is displayed throughout the Room and around the property—there’s nothing to complain about. Personally, I especially loved the bathroom: it was spotless and large, and you can tell care was taken with the shampoo and soap provided.

The meals, sauna, and Room were all excellent!

I stayed one night at THE BLESS, a place I’d been curious about for a while. First, I was amazed by the magma sauna. I started sweating almost immediately, but because it’s low-temperature, even someone like me who isn’t a big sauna person could stay in longer and go in multiple times—it was incredibly relaxing. Dinner was a set course that started at the same time for everyone. The staff’s humorous stories added an entertaining touch, and it was great fun. Needless to say, the food was excellent. The wood-fire-cooked meat, fish, and vegetables were all packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. The Room bed was wonderfully soft. The amenities were high quality—I honestly wanted to take them all home (laughs). If you want to enjoy both nature and luxury on Awaji Island, I highly recommend THE BLESS! From the warm welcome onward, their hospitality was outstanding, and I truly enjoyed a slow, luxurious stay. Thank you very much.

The private Plan included attentive and detailed service.

We had the pleasure of renting out "THE BLESS Awaji" with friends, and it turned out to be an unforgettable stay that far exceeded our expectations. First and foremost, the overwhelming sense of privacy at this accommodation is worth highlighting. Nestled in the serene natural beauty of Awaji Island, stepping onto the property reveals a sophisticated modern design space. We brought along DJ equipment for our plan to enjoy music together, and being able to play our favorite tunes at high volume without worrying about the surroundings was pure bliss. The open living area with its high ceilings seamlessly connects to a terrace, creating a fantastic flow where music resonates comfortably throughout the space. The luxury of enjoying deep bass sounds without any concerns felt like an exclusive privilege unique to a private villa. Sharing drinks and conversations with friends while moving to the rhythm made us completely forget about everyday life’s hustle and bustle. Another highlight of this accommodation is its exceptional culinary experience. The kitchen features a rare Spanish charcoal oven called "Josper," one of only a few in Japan. Using this special oven to cook local ingredients became one of the most memorable parts of our stay. When Awaji Island's fresh produce is placed into Josper, it emerges perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside yet incredibly juicy inside—with an irresistible smoky aroma. Adding even more value to our stay was their meticulously designed sauna facilities. As the owner is passionate about saunas, they have installed top-notch equipment including a [Magma Spa-style Sauna], an extra-cold plunge pool, and relaxation spaces for cooling down—all creating an ideal environment that even sauna enthusiasts will appreciate. The staff were also exceptionally attentive; they kindly accommodated pre-arrival requests regarding bringing in equipment, allowing us peace of mind leading up to our visit. This isn’t just an accommodation where you “stay”—it’s a place that enables creative enjoyment tailored around what you want to do there. Whether gathering with music-loving friends or hosting special parties or simply seeking rejuvenation—this location offers nothing short of perfection. We are already looking forward to returning here again someday—a true gem among villas on Awaji Island!

There is no Onsen, so there is no point in being in Sumoto.

Shoes are removed at the entrance, similar to a home, and there is no Onsen. The bath is a shared facility with both genders, including a sauna, and there is no changing room. It feels like a dormitory space. We stayed as three people in a Junior Suite Room, but the extra bed was a sofa bed that tilted and was uncomfortable to sleep on. We tried reinforcing it with chairs underneath, but it wobbled, and our 15-year-old son could barely sleep. There were no indoor slippers provided; everyone had to use the same wooden clogs throughout the accommodation, including inside the rooms. The interior design looks modern in photos online; however, it's an old Ryokan renovation with outdated structures—footsteps and noises are clearly audible through thin walls—and it was extremely cold inside. There’s no ocean view; only Netflix is available on TV without any local channels. The meals were delicious but served in a theater-style setting where everyone starts eating at the same time and must keep pace together—it wasn’t worth coming all this way just for that. Hoping for luxury away from daily life with two teenagers turned out to be a mistake choosing this place.

The sauna and meals are excellent.

The sauna here is exceptional, offering a perfect level of heat to warm your body without leaving your hair feeling scorched. The experience of taking a quick shower after the sauna and then soaking in the cold bath is truly refreshing. Above all, the food is outstanding.

Firewood × Fermentation × Local Production for the Ultimate Dining Experience

Recently, I stayed at "The Breath Awaji" in Sumoto, Awaji Island. Access was convenient: from Tokyo to Shin-Kobe by train, then a highway bus to Sumoto Bus Terminal, followed by a 10-minute walk. The room was spacious and comfortable for two people. The highlight of this accommodation is undoubtedly the food. Featuring a custom wood-fired oven and fermented dishes using koji, as well as plenty of local ingredients from Awaji Island, every dish was exquisite. The course started at 7 PM with each dish carefully prepared to perfection. The first dish was kelp-cured caviar toast with concentrated umami flavors—absolutely delicious! This was followed by white fish roe with turnip sauce, wood-grilled conger eel, wild boar pancetta—all enhanced by the aroma of the wood fire and the natural flavors of the ingredients. The lobster dish left a particularly strong impression; its rich flavor paired perfectly with miso rice underneath it. The roasted grouper in the oven had an amazing texture as well. For the final meat course, soy sauce koji accompanied it beautifully—both individually flavorful and harmoniously satisfying overall. Before dinner, I also enjoyed their sauna experience which offered authentic relaxation with high temperatures and cold water baths rivaling specialized facilities. Breakfast included honey-infused toast and rich onion potage made from Awaji Island onions—each item thoughtfully prepared for a delightful start to the day. Overall, it was an exceptional experience that I plan to repeat soon!

The meals and sauna were excellent!

A wonderful auberge located on the eastern side of Awaji Island, offering a panoramic view of the serene sea from an elevated position. Renovated from a historic ryokan, it combines a calm atmosphere with modern touches, and the interior is adorned with numerous contemporary art pieces, making it very stylish. We stayed in an ocean-view room, where the scenery through the window was truly tranquil and beautiful. The spacious room allowed us to relax comfortably. The cuisine featured creative courses prepared using wood fire, showcasing the delicious flavors of Awaji Island's ingredients. There were many innovative combinations, making each dish enjoyable. The wine selection was extensive, and the pairings were excellent. It was our first time experiencing the "Magma Sauna," which made us sweat remarkably and left us feeling refreshed both physically and mentally—a great way to rejuvenate. Although it's a bit far from public transportation options, there is parking available, so visiting by car is convenient. Dining at just the restaurant is also possible; we would love to return for another meal-focused visit!

Fresh Awaji Ingredients Cooked Over a Wood Fire and the Ultimate Sauna Experience

I couldn't forget the meal and magma sauna from my last visit, so I came back again. The 60°C sauna is incredibly comfortable and helps release toxins without feeling overwhelming. The cold bath at 13°C is just perfect. The meals feature local specialties like Kunugi Wagyu beef and Densuke eel from Awaji, along with vegetables specially grown for this auberge—so delicious that the vegetables take center stage! I'm already looking forward to visiting again.

The ultimate auberge surrounded by the serene island time of Awaji.

Staying at THE BLESS Awaji was more than just a trip—it was an "experience." The interior is free from unnecessary decorations, allowing the natural beauty of Awaji Island to take center stage. The staff's gentle demeanor and thoughtful communication enhanced the tranquil atmosphere, wrapping the entire stay in calmness. Dinner was a full-course meal served in a dining area filled with the aroma of wood fire. The heat brought out the sweetness and fragrance of each ingredient, making every dish feel like its own story of temperature and aroma—a time to truly appreciate each creation. Awaji’s fish, vegetables, and meat were delicately complemented by the scent of wood fire, offering such profound flavors that you’d want to savor every bite slowly. The timing of each dish’s arrival was impressively smooth, enhancing the overall quality of service. The wine selection was remarkable as well, allowing us to enjoy pairings that perfectly matched each course. From the Room's window, you could feel seasonal breezes, swaying forests, and hints of a serene sea quietly entering your space. It felt as though all traces of city noise disappeared with every deep breath—gradually melting away any inner restlessness. The sauna experience was exceptional too; heat from lava stones warmed deeply within even in short sessions. Outdoor relaxation afterward felt unparalleled—the flow of wind and colors in the sky seemed to blend seamlessly into our stay. This is a place where island nature meets warmth from fire and people’s kindness—creating harmony throughout your visit. It’s a Hotel I’d love to return to as seasons change again. Looking forward to visiting once more!

I recently had the pleasure of staying here with a friend, and it turned out to be an extraordinary experience that far exceeded my expectations for my first visit to Awaji! What impressed me the most were the meals and the sauna. ■ Meals The dishes, made with local ingredients, were meticulously prepared and absolutely delicious. Each dish was beautifully presented, and we enjoyed them while listening to detailed explanations about each one. ■ Sauna & Ice Bath The sauna experience was truly exceptional. It was my first time in a sauna surrounded by what seemed like mineral walls(?), and despite the low temperature, I felt deeply warmed from within—it was amazing! Plus, there’s an ice bath right next to it that is perfectly chilled. The alternating hot-and-cold bathing felt incredible; before I knew it, I had gone through more than three cycles. It left me feeling completely clear of any fatigue. The staff's hospitality and attention to detail were outstanding as well, making this stay unforgettable. I look forward to visiting again!

The cuisine offers a one-of-a-kind deliciousness.

The food was incredibly delicious, offering flavors you can't find at other places. I never imagined that simply grilling vegetables could create such amazing taste. As the establishment is still new, it may not be widely known yet, but it has great potential to gain attention in the future. Even for those who have experienced a variety of fine cuisines, this place offers something new to discover.

A luxurious accommodation to savor the blessings of Awaji Island and wood-fired cuisine

THE BLESS Awaji offered an exceptional stay. This intimate accommodation with only 8 rooms is quietly nestled between the forest and the sea, creating a special atmosphere that feels far removed from everyday life from the moment you arrive. The warm hospitality of the manager and staff made it easy to relax throughout our stay. Dinner featured a course menu prepared on a Jasper wood-fired grill. The dramatic opening of red curtains felt like the start of a small stage performance, adding excitement to the experience. Watching dishes come together in front of us at the open kitchen was truly captivating. With ingredients like Kunugiza beef, local seafood, homegrown vegetables, and Awaji Island onions, every dish showcased the natural flavors beautifully. The subtle aroma of wood fire added warmth to each bite. What impressed us most was that even during our two-night stay, every course menu was completely different. Even when using similar ingredients, each preparation and combination brought new surprises every evening. We found ourselves eagerly anticipating what would come next with each dish. Another highlight was hearing stories about Awaji Island from the chef between courses. When he shared that "this island is where Izanagi and Izanami created Japan according to ancient mythology," it gave deeper meaning to each ingredient as part of this land's history and cycle of life. It truly felt like a culinary journey connected by fire and storytelling—no wonder it's overseen by one of the world's top BBQ chefs! The wine cellar selection was also outstanding, making wine pairings with meals an indulgent pleasure right up until dessert. Outside our window lay serene views of Seto Inland Sea alongside lush greenery. In this tranquility, only birdsong or rustling leaves could be heard—a setting so peaceful it naturally deepened your breathing. At nightfall came not waves but pure silence under star-filled skies where time seemed blissfully unhurried. And then there’s their sauna—absolutely fantastic! Using magma spa-style lava stones chosen by its owner ensures deep warmth upon entry while leaving skin silky smooth afterward. Swimwear robes & towels are provided too so families or friends can enjoy comfortably together! Overall THE BLESS Awaji reflects thoughtful attention-to-detail paired w/ genuine richness across food space nature & people harmoniously resonating altogether making me long already returning again another season soon!

A wonderful auberge featuring a variety of specialty ingredients from Awaji Island.

We stayed for two nights during our trip to Awaji Island. Located along the coast, the property offers a sophisticated atmosphere from its exterior to the guest rooms, as it just opened this year. The staff were very friendly and made our stay pleasant! The facility also features a magma sauna, which I tried for the first time. Despite being lower in temperature than regular saunas, it felt incredibly warm and relaxing! As an auberge, the meals were exceptional, featuring local ingredients from Awaji Island. The chef thoughtfully changed the menu over two days, and there was a great selection of wines to enjoy. We look forward to staying here again on our next visit to Awaji Island!

Blissful luxury time surrounded by the aroma of firewood and the heat of magma.

I stayed at "THE BLESS AWAJI." After my stay, I realized that this is truly a place to "recenter your life." Gourmet cuisine, relaxation, and quality time gently satisfied all my senses. The dinner was nothing short of breathtaking. Dishes grilled on the rare Josper wood-fired grill were a perfect fusion of smokiness and flavor—each plate felt like a piece of art for the senses. One particularly memorable dish was the wood-fired roasted vegetables made from homegrown produce. The natural sweetness and aroma of the ingredients were enhanced, creating a simple yet overwhelmingly impactful presence. Alongside Awaji beef and fresh seafood, I fully enjoyed the island's blessings. Each dish conveyed the passion and aesthetic sense of the chefs—a true "dining experience." Another highlight during my stay was the magma sauna using volcanic stones from Mount Fuji. At 65°C, I initially thought it might feel mild, but as soon as I entered, it felt much hotter than expected! It warmed me to my core with sweat pouring out non-stop! The contrast with an icy 12°C cold bath was remarkable, offering excellent detox effects. It felt like being reborn into a new self—a deeply relaxing experience. With only eight rooms available, there’s an exceptional sense of privacy here. Every space is refined; in guest rooms overlooking serene ocean views, time seems to flow slowly. I could completely disconnect from the outside world and savor “time just for myself.” THE BLESS AWAJI is not just a resort—it’s a sanctuary for freeing your mind and body. Time spent in this harmonious blend of gourmet cuisine and relaxation truly felt like “the ultimate reward.” For those looking to escape daily life and deeply clear their minds—I wholeheartedly recommend this extraordinary accommodation!
