    Perfectly nestled in the forest

The Hotel is located on the shore of a small lake, Matsubara Lake (about 2 km around). Next to the Hotel is Matsubara Suwa Shrine, and a small guardian forest spreads out nearby. I joined a fieldwork program called “Petit Therapy.” Even in summer, the cool forest had scattered flowers in bloom, and I was told their names. The day I stayed happened to be the day of the Matsubara Lake Toro Nagashi & Fireworks Festival, so dinner started early at 17:30. I added a pairing of four types of alcohol. I expected only wine, but there was also sake, and each drink paired beautifully with the dishes. It was a little disappointing that butter wasn’t served with the bread, but the cuisine was delicate and made great use of Shinshu’s delicious vegetables, fish, and meat. There was even an unusual dish featuring bear meat. By the time dessert was served, the lantern floating began, and it worked perfectly for the fireworks starting at 20:00. Watching fireworks by the lakeside with crickets chirping and a cool breeze was very pleasant; it was a small-scale festival, but comfortable to enjoy. This time my Room didn’t have a bathtub, but I still wished I could soak and relax. Before breakfast I walked once around the lakeside; it took about 30 minutes and made for an ideal stroll. The staff provided wonderful hospitality. As for Shuttle Service: pickup was from Sakudaira Station (Shinkansen), but drop-off was at Koumi Station. It was slightly disappointing that drop-off couldn’t also be arranged to Sakudaira Station—I could have had lunch in Karuizawa on the way back.

A retreat Hotel nestled on the shores of Lake Matsubara

From the small amenities to the staff who warmly enhance the service throughout the Hotel, everything reflected thoughtful attention and a relaxing sense of hospitality. This Accommodation, standing by Lake Matsubara as a continuation of a previously built Hotel, is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. Thank you very much.

    A wonderful concept

The overall concept is well thought out and wonderful. From the building and logo design to the staff’s service, a short therapeutic walk in the forest, and the cuisine—everything felt cohesive, and we were able to relax in great comfort. The hospitality from the staff was especially outstanding. Since this concept is made possible by the lake and surrounding forest, I hope the whole community will continue to cherish and protect the lakeside environment and scenery. Overall, it’s a perfect 5. The nearby Koumi Town Kogen Museum of Art is also a small but excellent museum designed by Tadao Ando, with an impressive special exhibition as well. Both this Accommodation and the museum show how hard Koumi Town is working—I hope it gains even more attention.

I was able to spend time in a wonderful, relaxing space!

I take regular driving trips every month, and while looking for an Accommodation in Nagano Prefecture, I came across this place on social media and decided to make a Reservation. It was my first time visiting Koumi Town and Lake Matsubara, and the area had a unique atmosphere that felt incredibly relaxing. Not only was the staff’s hospitality wonderful, but although it has been about a year since the renovation, the Room was also very clean and comfortable! Since I usually travel solo, some Accommodations can feel a bit unsettling, but this may have been the first time I’ve been able to truly relax and unwind like this. I’ve come to really love not only this Accommodation but also Koumi Town itself, so I’d like to visit again regularly!

This was my second stay. Everyone at the Hotel was wonderful. There were moments when I caused some inconvenience, but you handled everything with great care, and I’m truly grateful. This is a perfect Accommodation in every way. When I want to Clear my mind without thinking about anything, I’d love to come back here. I look forward to staying with you again. And congratulations on your first anniversary.

A Peaceful Lakeside Retreat with Delicious Dining

I happened to find HOTEL MIYAM online and made a Reservation, and it turned out to be a truly wonderful stay. A small Hotel by a small lake, with a walking trail that takes about 30–40 minutes to loop around. I was able to visit in May when everything was lush and green, and the view from my Room was vivid and beautiful—picture-perfect in the daytime, at sunset, and at sunrise. On the afternoon of arrival, I joined a short “forest therapy” walk. The next morning, I walked the trail after sunrise, then went around the same trail again after breakfast. It was fun every time, with something new to discover no matter the hour. Above all, the food was delicious. The dinner course featuring plenty of wild mountain vegetables and local ingredients—and breakfast as well—were both excellent, and I finished everything. I almost want to blame myself for making my Reservation for only one night. Next time, I’d love to stay for two nights in a different season. Thank you very much.

It was the best retreat experience.

I was extremely satisfied with the location, Room amenities, restaurant cuisine, and hospitality. Location It is located on the shore of Lake Matsubarako in Nagano. In midwinter, the entire lake freezes over, and you can enjoy skating and smelt ice fishing. I heard this Hotel was renovated from a traditional guesthouse that originally welcomed visitors for those activities. There is no Onsen Facility on-site, but they provide a Shuttle Service to a nearby public bath called “Happo-no-Yu” (free to use). The free-flowing hot spring water and the view from the open-air bath are wonderful. Room amenities The bath has fully automatic filling, and the toilet is a latest model. Drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary. During my stay there was a local beer called Yai Yai Pale Ale (?)—it was delicious. The view from the window looks like a postcard. Restaurant cuisine A course meal that makes great use of ingredients from Nagano—everything was excellent. They also said the bread is homemade. After dinner, you can optionally enjoy snacks and drinks by the fireplace. Looking at other guests’ photos, I noticed different dishes from what I had, so I’d love to visit again in another season. Hospitality They offer something called “Petit Therapy.” I wasn’t sure what it would be like at first, but you take a slow walk along Lake Matsubarako with a Hotel staff member while they explain local nature and history—it’s truly relaxing. After that, they continued serving us at dinner as well; since we had already spent time together, it felt easy to chat with them. As someone who isn’t great socially (?), it was my first time having such natural conversations with Hotel staff. It’s an excellent Hotel; perhaps because it only opened last year there still aren’t many Reviews yet—and I have mixed feelings between wanting more people to know about it and wanting it to remain a hidden gem (haha).

Enjoy Matsubarako Lake fully frozen over

I made a Reservation because I was drawn to the summer views of Lake Matsubarako and the “forest mini-therapy” walks around the lakeside (and of course, the atmosphere of this beautifully renovated Accommodation and its cuisine). But in winter, the scenery was completely transformed into an icy world. And it was even more wonderful than I imagined—an experience you can only have in winter—and it left me feeling like I’d gotten a great bonus! I loved the feel of the Room. There is no Onsen on-site, but you can use nearby Happo-no-Yu for free with complimentary Shuttle Service. The bathroom in Room 204 (Lakefront Twin), where we stayed, had a lake view—an amazing scene that looked like a painting. The cuisine, themed around “slow terroir,” featured plenty of carefully prepared local ingredients, and we were thoroughly satisfied. This is an Accommodation that makes me want to stay in every season.

It was truly a wonderful accommodation.

I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay. The lakeside location was very pleasant, and the views from the Room and bath were soothing throughout my stay. The dinners were carefully prepared, with delightful aromas, and I was highly satisfied on both days. Since I don't drink alcohol, I only ordered soft drinks, but I particularly enjoyed the original pine needle soda. Its refreshing aroma and taste made me order it multiple times during my stay. The amenity bar was also very well-stocked, offering items like Japanese black tea, aroma oils, and bath salts to suit individual preferences. This time it was a work-related stay; however, there were spaces within the facility where I could focus on tasks efficiently beyond expectations. Overall, my satisfaction with this Accommodation was high. It is a place I'd love to revisit for both work purposes and relaxation.

A relaxing stay at the newly renovated accommodation was excellent.

Upon arrival, we experienced the therapeutic atmosphere of Lake Matsubara. The meals were incredibly delicious, and we enjoyed Japanese sake aged at the bottom of Lake Matsubara with dinner, which was also exceptional. Breakfast was delightful as well, making for a wonderfully relaxing stay. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Enjoy Local Ingredients

The French course dinner exceeded expectations. Carefully prepared dishes using local ingredients. I would love to visit again in a different season. The staff were very pleasant and their warm hospitality was truly comforting. A Hotel by the lakeside, surrounded by nature, offering a very relaxing atmosphere. The star-filled night sky was breathtaking.
