With the sound of a ...

With the sound of a mountain stream and river flowing nearby, this is a quiet Accommodation deep in the mountains, surrounded by lush greenery. Soaking in the Onsen makes it an ideal place to enjoy an escape from everyday life. The only downside was that it takes a few minutes to walk from the parking lot to reception, and pulling heavy luggage up the uphill path was a bit tiring. The meals were also delicious, with a well-planned menu considering the mountain setting.

A relaxing Accommodation where you can unwind

As the Facility has been renovated, it was very clean and comfortable. The Onsen water is clear simple spring water, and it differs slightly between the indoor bath and the mixed-gender bath. We were also told that each nearby Onsen Accommodation has its own unique features. Thank you as well for the staff’s hospitality.

    It was excellent.

We enjoyed the beautiful guest room, the high-quality Onsen, and the delicious cuisine. In particular, every dish was delicately and carefully prepared, which made it a real pleasure. We also enjoyed the drink pairing. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

The only accommodation in Nyuto Onsenkyo with a sauna

Both the open-air bath with a barrel sauna and the indoor bath that retains an old-fashioned atmosphere were wonderful. The Room was also clean, and we stayed comfortably. However, I was disappointed with the food. Why serve shrimp in chili sauce as a middle course?? It was extremely spicy and affected the dishes that followed. The salt-grilled char was undercooked, so I took one bite and left it, but there was no follow-up such as regrilling or offering an alternative. Breakfast was very ordinary. I would like the rice to be served in a rice tub. The dining area had counter seating at an open kitchen, but nothing was actually cooked there. The seats were very close to other guests, we could hear their conversations clearly, and it felt uncomfortable. In that case, I would rather eat at the cafe in the day-use Facility while enjoying the view. All of the staff were kind and helpful—thank you for taking care of us.

A great Accommodation, a great trip

The weather forecast beforehand wasn’t very promising, but once we arrived we were blessed with wonderful weather throughout the trip. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Tazawako Station, then rented a Times car share to drive around Lake Tazawa and Lake Shusen before heading to the Accommodation. Just as the Accommodation advised in advance, setting “Kuroyu Onsen” in the car navigation system will take you straight to the parking area without any trouble. A lovely staff member in charge of front desk operations came outside to welcome us. She explained everything clearly and politely at both check-in and check-out, and we truly appreciated it. Our detached Room with an open-air bath had a very calming atmosphere. The bath temperature was not too hot, and we were able to soak at leisure while enjoying the greenery and the sound of the breeze. The open-air bath itself doesn’t have a washing area; instead you use a shower room located in the same space as the washbasin area. It felt a bit narrow—another 20 cm of space would have been perfect. Meals are served at a counter, and at dinner both the chef and sommelier carefully explained each dish and drink. We were completely satisfied with every plate. The course started with sake-based sparkling wine and plum wine included; in addition, my wife ordered a drink pairing (3 glasses for 3,000 yen), while I began by ordering Aramaneko from Aramasa plus local Kariho from Daisen City, enjoying how well they matched with each dish. My wife was especially impressed by how outstanding the sashimi was. This Accommodation is said to be especially popular in winter when covered in snow, but I also highly recommend Magoroku Onsen in early summer. Also, on our second day after visiting Kakunodate’s samurai residences, we were looking at Maps over lunch when we learned about an archaeological site called “Hotta-no-saku” (Hotta Stockade) in Omagari just a bit further south—and decided to go. It is said to be an ancient government office site believed to have been built in the early Heian period. Perhaps because it was a weekday there were no other visitors besides us, but it’s well worth seeing at least once. If time allows, please do visit. It feels like there are still many lesser-known tourism gems throughout Tohoku.

A wonderful accommodation you’ll want to visit again and again

This was a wonderful, very comfortable Accommodation with a great sense of privacy. The breakfast and dinner were not only delicious dish by dish, but I also appreciated that the portions were not overwhelmingly large as is often the case at Onsen Accommodations. The open-air bath can be enjoyed along the river while taking in spectacular views of the beech forest, but I felt it was a shame that the bath closest to the entrance is positioned so that you cannot see the scenery once you soak in it. All of the staff were professional and warm, and I was very satisfied. Next time, I would like to visit when the trees are lush and green.

    The accommodation wa...

The accommodation was new and clean, but it did not justify the price (approximately 100,000 yen). The room was naturally clean as it was new, but the only mirror was in the dressing area, and poor air conditioning caused it to fog up quickly due to humidity. The dining area featured an open kitchen, but it seemed purely decorative as no cooking took place there. I felt it would have been better to enjoy a meal while admiring the snowy scenery instead. While aiming for luxury, everything felt half-hearted. Having visited various high-end accommodations, this one ranks at the bottom. I also questioned the hospitality of the hostess (lack of skill). I will not be returning again.

    Surrounded by Snow

Located in the mountains, 50 minutes by bus from Tazawako Station and a 15-minute walk from Nyuto Onsen bus stop, you can enjoy a snow-viewing bath. The food is also delicious. Since there is nothing around, it would be nice to have drinks available in the lounge or vending machines. It was unfortunate that check-in took some time.

    Poor cost performance

Renovated and reopened six months ago, this onsen was expected to meet its high price point within the Nyuto Onsen area. However, compared to Kyoto's kaiseki cuisine, the matsutake and hamo soup was lukewarm, the grilled fish had been sitting for some time, and there was a lack of attention to detail such as warming the dishes. Additionally, it was disappointing that only the driver greeted us upon departure without a farewell from a manager. The snow disposal area next to the entrance becomes hard to see after dark; one of our companions with poor eyesight stumbled into it. Please ensure better safety management in such areas. While Simmons beds and other furnishings were luxurious, and female staff provided attentive communication from the reservation stage while confirming pick-up arrangements carefully, overall service still does not match the price level. More effort is needed to improve hospitality standards further.

    Thank you.

Thank you very much. Although I felt a bit uneasy on the way as it is deep in the mountains, the accommodation was very clean, and the onsen was excellent, making my stay highly satisfying. However, there was no parking guidance, and I almost parked at a lot along the way. It would be helpful to have instructions for guests to park further in or similar guidance. The shiitake mushroom potage was delicious, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Thank you so much again. I look forward to visiting again!

    About the Onsen

Dinner was elaborate and delicious, though the portion was a bit large. However, breakfast was ordinary compared to dinner. The atmosphere of the room and the onsen were satisfactory. However, it was difficult to find the way to the accommodation, and I got lost. Relying on navigation often doesn't work. It might be better to call the accommodation for directions.

    Breakfast is...

The coffee after breakfast was disappointing. Despite the wonderful accommodation and the beautifully prepared meals, it felt like everything was ruined. Not just me, but all four of us, including my brother and his wife, had the same impression. The drip coffee provided in the room tasted much better. In the morning, only foreign staff were present for service. Accommodations of this class usually include a send-off, but there was none, which was disappointing.

    It was a wonderful time.

I stayed here for my trip to climb Mount Komagatake. The first night, I stayed in the "Kagetsu" bedroom, which had windows on three sides, offering a beautiful view of the expansive sky and the moon and stars—a truly lovely room. On the second night, I stayed in a new room with an open-air bath that smelled of fresh wood. Surrounded by the sound of a flowing river and lush greenery, it felt like a luxurious private villa where I could relax. The meals were carefully prepared and beautifully presented, making them very enjoyable. However, on the first night when I ordered the sommelier pairing menu, I noticed that four drinks were listed on the drink menu—including sparkling sake as an aperitif—despite only three being included in the meal plan. The invoice correctly stated "Sommelier 3 Drinks," so it might be less confusing if only three drinks were listed on the menu as well. It was heartwarming to see young women of foreign nationality working hard as staff members—I wanted to cheer them on! As I'm not an Onsen enthusiast myself, I felt somewhat sorry for not fully appreciating this wonderful feature. Maintaining this facility must be challenging; best wishes to Okami-san for continuing your efforts! Thank you for providing such a wonderful experience!

    We had a wonderful time.

The facility was very clean, and I had a very comfortable stay. Both the Onsen and the meals were excellent, and the staff were incredibly kind, making it a truly satisfying experience. The Onsen surrounded by lush greenery allowed me to enjoy nature to the fullest—it was amazing. It is conveniently located near not only Magoroku Onsen but also Kuroyu Onsen, so you can enjoy both. I would definitely like to visit again!
