Great bath and a beautiful view.

The mountain views from the rooftop footbath café were amazing! The private family bath was wonderful too.

    The Room is simply outstanding.

I stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and the Room was simply outstanding. The spaciousness, cleanliness, design, and the in-room Onsen were all excellent. Since we didn’t order meals this time, we had limited interaction with the staff, but we didn’t experience any inconvenience. I’d love to visit again.

The private open-air bath is priced on the higher side at JPY 3,300 for 50 minutes.

On IKYU, the Onsen description says: “You can reserve a private open-air bath or use the baths at <Oyado Tamaki> free of charge.” I mistakenly understood this to mean that the private open-air bath was also free. I was shocked to learn on site that it costs an additional 3,300 yen. It would be clearer if the site stated: “Reserve a private open-air bath (additional 3,300 yen).” To reach the free baths at <Oyado Tamaki>, you have to go all the way down to the bottom of a staircase—and of course climb back up afterward. Just thinking about it made me not want to go. For this Accommodation, I recommend choosing a Room with an open-air bath. Aside from that, the hospitality was excellent and there were no other drawbacks. Relaxing in the footbath while enjoying a beer at the rooftop bar was fantastic. Breakfast was exactly what you want—simple and satisfying. I did use the private open-air bath, but my only disappointment was that it didn’t turn into an all-out Onsen experience.

    Business Hotel

It was a Business Hotel, not a Ryokan.

    It was a pleasant Hotel.

Although the staff was limited, I felt no inconvenience and had a comfortable stay. The luxurious atmosphere made me feel that this is one of the future directions for hotels.

    Self-service Hotel?

The parking lot was too narrow to park, so I asked if there was another place to park. I was told I could park next to the Hotel, but it was unclear, so I had to ask again. Even though there were two staff members present, they did not come out of the Hotel. Is this how they operate? I have stayed at many places before, but this is the first time staff didn’t come out when arriving by car. Is it self-service? Unbelievable.

    First Visit to Ikaho Onsen

This time, we chose Kaede and Itsuki for a relaxing stay in the room. The entrance and interior were clean, and the room was spacious and comfortable. The private bath was very large and enjoyable. For dinner, we had yakiniku, but during the course, we felt too full to eat the last portion of horumon. When we mentioned this, they kindly changed it to dessert for us. Thank you so much! The rice at breakfast was incredibly delicious. One small issue was that the parking lot was narrow and a bit challenging (laughs). Still, it’s definitely a Ryokan I’d love to stay at again!

The rooms are new and clean, but the staff is minimal, and the meals were disappointing.

Recently renovated, the rooms are very clean. The private bath in the room features golden onsen water, which is quite satisfying. However, only reservations with breakfast included (no dinner) are available. Breakfast can be described as simple and minimalistic at best, or lacking effort at worst. It was served on a tray and felt like a school trip breakfast experience. There are few Japanese staff members, with many foreign staff instead. While the Japanese staff conveyed a sense of hospitality, it seemed challenging for some foreign staff to provide what is traditionally considered "omotenashi" service in Japan. Perhaps due to high labor costs, there is no dinner option and breakfast feels basic—possibly an effort to reduce staffing expenses? We also used the in-house yakiniku restaurant that requires prior reservation for dinner; yakiniku likely requires less labor compared to traditional Japanese cuisine. Overall, there was a noticeable sense of labor shortage and cost-cutting measures throughout our stay. If they could offer traditional Japanese meals and hospitality unique to an onsen town—alongside their excellent baths and rooms—this ryokan has the potential to become exceptional. However, achieving this might be difficult under current circumstances.

    The Shock of Ikaho.

Due to a last-minute decision to stay in Ikaho after a night at Kusatsu Onsen, I deeply regret my own poor judgment in choosing this accommodation. If the only option available is the "Double Japanese Modern Bedroom 21 sqm with Breakfast," I would recommend reconsidering. While there are many things I could write about both the accommodation and Ikaho Onsen town, as this is a new style of an established ryokan, the staff's sincere response to my complaints prevents me from detailing every issue. However, it was such a shocking stay that I have decided never to visit Ikaho again.

    A new and comfortable Hotel

The reviews were excellent, so I decided to stay in a private room with an open-air bath. It was just as good as the reputation suggested and very comfortable. The open-air bath in the room was spacious with a small garden, making it extremely pleasant. I ended up using it multiple times. The staff were few but efficient, providing thoughtful service, which I found to be quite satisfactory.

    Ikaho Onsen Trip

The facility had a very calm and elegant atmosphere, which was wonderful. The private-use bathroom allowed for a safe and comfortable experience. The rooftop offered a foot bath along with drinks, providing excellent service. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance. Thank you!

    Overall, it was clea...

Overall, it was clean and pleasant. The Room was the same. It was a room with an open-air bath, but I thought it would be convenient to have chairs that can be used even when wet. I only had breakfast, but personally, I would have been happier if there were a few more side dish options.

The reserved room was not secured.

I booked a room with an open-air bath through IKYU, but it was not secured, and I was forced to change to a room with a shower booth. Since there was no large public bath, I used the private bath available by reservation for limited time slots, but I couldn't relax as I had to keep track of time while exploring the area. I did not use the restaurant, so my rating is "3." The nearby izakaya "Ukigumo" is recommended; it's a casual spot frequented by locals and offers great value for money. The amenities are equivalent to those of a Business Hotel. There were moments where the small-scale operation was noticeable, and it didn't feel much like a Resort Hotel—more like a stylish Business Hotel.

The private hot spring bath was excellent.

Due to an unexpected schedule change, I stayed at this accommodation after learning it was part of the Oyado Tamaki group. Initially, I didn't have high expectations as it follows a new "stay-and-dine-separately" concept without dinner service, which seemed similar to a business hotel. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the onsen experience that exceeded my expectations. The tatami-floored room had a gentle and relaxing atmosphere, allowing me to unwind completely. Most notably, soaking in the spacious private bath "Ten," filled with golden spring water from the source (Kogane no Yu), warmed my body deeply post-surgery and allowed me to sleep soundly through the night for the first time in a while. It was unfortunate that there was no view from the room due to an old decayed building of a former hotel blocking it. However, I took this as witnessing part of an old onsen town transitioning into its next chapter.

    Excellent

The room layout is excellent. Switches are modern and up-to-date. The bath towel dryer is a thoughtful touch. The temperature of the private open-air bath in the room is perfect. Rooftop service (free drinks) is outstanding. Breakfast is delicious, and adding one more dish would make it even better.

I would definitely like to visit this Hotel again.

We chose this hotel because it is located at the top of the stone steps, the rooms looked appealing, and it had recently undergone major renovations. We stayed in a spacious room with an open-air bath. It was quiet, impeccably clean, and we were able to enjoy a relaxing and wonderful time. The parking area is located on the first floor of the building with limited space for maneuvering, which made parking slightly challenging. However, the staff kindly guided us with precise instructions like "You have about XX cm left," which was very helpful. When it started raining while we were using the rooftop bar, they brought us umbrellas and blankets, showing thoughtful attention to detail that made our stay even more comfortable. A few days before our trip, my husband injured his hand and had it bandaged; during dinner service, one of the staff noticed this and kindly said, "Did you hurt your hand? Please take care." Such considerate gestures truly stood out. We experienced nothing unpleasant during our stay—it was genuinely a wonderful time. This is definitely a hotel we would love to visit again!

    We had a wonderful time.

Everything in the facility was new, clean, and above all, stylish. The rooftop bar was lovely, but the private bath exceeded expectations with its secluded atmosphere, making for an exceptional experience. The room had tatami flooring and required shoes to be removed at the entrance, which made it feel very safe and comfortable to use. Most importantly, after years of staying at various accommodations, this was the first time I could sleep soundly through the night and wake up feeling truly refreshed in the morning. Breakfast consisted of a healthy and delicious breakfast plate. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the yakiniku restaurant inside as it offered only course menus that weren't suitable for children. It would have been great if there were a kids' menu available. Parking was quite challenging! (laughs) Next time, I'll come back with a smaller car!
