Thank you for responding promptly even in the middle of the night during an emergency.

Wearing a hat in the misty drizzle, I will never forget being able to fully enjoy the beautiful mountain stream and its free-flowing Onsen straight from the source. The abundant volume of hot water, like a geyser, was truly the height of luxury and made for an exceptional holiday. However, it was disappointing that some young people got heavily drunk in the river bath late at night and were shouting loudly, but when I reported it you responded immediately, which I appreciated. I was deeply impressed by your dedication to maintaining order at this traditional Ryokan even at the expense of sleep. I understand there are limits to judging guests in advance, but I feel it would be better to provide thorough reminders beforehand. Sorry for my blunt suggestion. I know it must be difficult with so many different kinds of guests. Still, I thought that filtering out preventable trouble as much as possible would also make things easier for your staff. After all, I want to enjoy this beautiful stream-side hot spring source in peace—and that tranquility is what makes the wonderful cuisine and Room truly shine.

I was amazed by the incredible volume of hot spring water.

This was my first visit to this famous hot spring. As the name suggests, Kawayu is a river, and Onsen water was bubbling up from various spots. Because it’s at a higher elevation, it seems pleasantly cool in summer.

    Amazing Hidden Hot Spring Accommodation

I stayed for one night but had to leave without staying overnight due to personal reasons. The staff were very kind, and I found the accommodation to be very pleasant. I was impressed by the unique location of the facility. The private open-air bath with sulfur spring water was excellent. If it's available, you can lock it and use it privately, so I finished dinner early and went to enjoy it. I traveled by car, but since there is no parking lot in front of the facility, I parked at a nearby prefectural parking lot (free). As I had luggage, I drove up to the entrance to unload my belongings before turning around and parking my car. The staff kindly carried my luggage to my room for me. Depending on the room type, some rooms in the main building felt a bit old as they were last renovated 13 years ago; this might be unavoidable. In cooler regions during hot weather, heating facilities are well-equipped but air conditioning may feel weak. Since this is not a ryokan but more like a hotel, services are similar to those of hotels. There was a pitcher with ice water provided in the room; bottled water in the refrigerator was available for an additional charge. A Hot Spring Tax (150 yen per person) will be charged at checkout. Meals were served in private dining rooms by attentive staff who provided excellent service. The portion sizes were just right for elderly guests. The shabu-shabu meat was delicious, and we enjoyed freshly harvested rice as it was just released this season—it tasted wonderful! The soba tempura had crispy batter and was also delightful. In the lobby area, detox water and coffee are freely available—perfect after taking a bath. The baths include separate areas for men and women as well as mixed bathing options. Bathing wear for mixed baths is provided at each entrance if needed; you can access mixed baths from your respective gender-specific bath area if desired—but bathing wear isn’t necessary unless using mixed baths specifically! This place is highly recommended for those who love hidden hot springs!

    Relaxing Hidden Hot Spring Experience

Recommended accommodation for solo travelers, discovered through a magazine. The journey by bus from the station to this hidden Onsen was exciting, and the experience exceeded expectations. Both the room and bath were impeccably clean, and the spacious open-air bath had crystal-clear, smooth water without a single fallen leaf. Surprisingly, what seemed like a river flowing beside the open-air bath was actually Onsen water from an abundant natural source. The dining area offers private rooms, making it comfortable even for solo guests. All staff members were friendly and welcoming with warm smiles. The dishes were perfectly seasoned with plenty of vegetables—ideal for relaxing at this accommodation. The coffee served in the lounge was also delightful. Inspired by one of their dishes after returning home, I recreated chicken hot pot with lemon-infused broth to share with my family. This visit provided a refreshing escape from sweltering heat; I look forward to returning during other seasons such as autumn foliage, snowy landscapes, or spring blooms. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Overall, it was a go...

Overall, it was a good accommodation. The onsen was excellent. The room was clean and very satisfying. I would like to use this accommodation again, but there are two points that caught my attention: 1. Service: Overall, the staff seemed to be few in number. Among the staff I encountered, some were fanning themselves with a bundle of receipts while walking, others walked in pairs down narrow hallways forcing guests to step aside, and some walked boldly down the middle of narrow hallways causing guests to move out of their way. However, the tall male staff member at the front desk before departure left a good impression, so I rated this aspect 4 out of 5 points. 2. Meals: I would have preferred fresh wasabi (not powdered) with the sashimi. The tempura placed soggily on overcooked cha-soba noodles was disappointing (though the tempura itself tasted good). The cha-soba quality needs improvement. As for meat dishes, several slices of lean meat were served; however, one or two slices of tender marbled beef would have been sufficient and more enjoyable. Regarding rice—could it be stockpiled rice due to current circumstances? If not, perhaps storage conditions need improvement as it did not taste fresh enough. Meals are an important part of any stay—including breakfast—and I hope for better next time! On a positive note, the tableware was beautiful!
