A luxurious private whole-house rental along Nene-no-Michi—an unforgettable Kyoto stay the whole family will love.

We stayed here on a family trip to Kyoto. Despite its prime location along Nene-no-Michi, which connects Kodaiji Temple and Yasaka Shrine, once you step inside you’ll find a quiet, refined space away from the city bustle—it truly impressed us. The building is said to be 120 years old, yet the interior and Facility are beautifully maintained and very clean, making it extremely comfortable. Thanks to the spacious layout (multiple bedrooms and two bathrooms), we were able to relax at our own pace while still enjoying quality time together as a family. In particular, the view from the second-floor living room with its mini bar was wonderful. Our favorite memory is spending a slow evening there with tea or drinks in hand, chatting as a family. We’re also grateful for the staff’s thoughtful and warm hospitality. It was a special stay that both adults and children thoroughly enjoyed. This is an Accommodation we would absolutely love to return to on our next visit to Kyoto.

Experience a Maiko private banquet at the Accommodation—an unforgettable, movie-like dream come true.

To celebrate the retirement of someone who has supported us for many years, three close friends—who get together once a year to talk entertainment and enjoy great food—splurged a little and stayed one night in Kyoto. We happened to be excited about “National Treasures,” and since “Sonezaki Shinju” was being performed at Minamiza, we thought: we want to experience a maiko banquet at least once in our lives! So we made a Reservation here. Right in the heart of Gion, it’s an entire townhouse rental—and the Hotel can also arrange maiko/geiko and catered meals. Plus, Minamiza is within walking distance. Because it was a private celebration, we wanted to spend time quietly; we didn’t want to wander around too much in crowded Kyoto; but since it was a special occasion, we still wanted the meal to feel truly special. This place was perfect for that. From the moment you pass through the gate and step across the stone path toward the entrance, your mood lifts. The garden and tea room are stunning, and the view of the garden from the spacious living room with yukimi shoji is truly beautiful. Despite being in prime Gion—right near Kikunoi Honten—it’s incredibly quiet. No late-night noise, hardly any sign of people in the morning either; I slept so well. The details are gorgeous too—the shimmer of Taisho-era glass, patterns on the coffered ceiling, wood grain—and because it’s an entire rental house, being able to take photos freely without worrying about anyone else was amazing. And then—the maiko and geiko! So charming, with such graceful movements. Going to an ochaya can feel intimidating, so having them come to our Accommodation and perform for us was incredible. With lingering emotions from watching “Sonezaki Shinju” earlier that day, it felt like a dreamlike evening. The staff were also extremely kind and experienced: they listened carefully to what we were celebrating, suggested catering options based on our preferences and budget, and even helped arrange drinks on the day—it was truly reassuring. Breakfast at Heian Shrine the next morning sounded like it might be a bit of trouble beforehand, but walking through its gardens when no one else was there in the early morning was absolutely wonderful—we were genuinely moved by it. Even our guest of honor felt comfortable all the way through until the end. Thank you so much! Next time I’d love to book again for a family gathering as well!!

An unbeatable location and luxurious comfort. A private, exclusive villa for your stay.

I booked this Accommodation because it is a fully private rental of about 200 m² in the prime location of Nene-no-Michi in Higashiyama. The location was truly outstanding, and once inside the grounds, the villa was pure tranquility. It felt uniquely special—unlike anything I had experienced on previous trips to Kyoto. As a villa renovated from a former teahouse, it offers a completely private space unlike a typical Hotel, with no need to worry about other guests. The beautifully maintained garden was stunning, and while the interior is modern and luxurious, it still conveys Kyoto’s traditional Japanese charm. The spacious setting was deeply relaxing. The staff were also attentive and offered many helpful suggestions for sightseeing and dining. One regret is that due to my schedule I couldn’t try the breakfast at Heian Shrine. I heard you can enjoy breakfast during an exclusive time before it opens to the public, with close-up views of the Shin’en garden. I definitely want to experience it next time.

    I stayed with the Br...

I stayed with the Breakfast Included Plan. It was a trip with a friend, and the space was more than enough for two people. With multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, it was very comfortable. As it is a private villa rental, we could enjoy our time without worrying about the surroundings, even in the heart of Kyoto. The tasteful use of open space and the beautiful natural light streaming through the windows made time feel slower and more relaxing. What left a particularly strong impression was breakfast at Heian Shrine while overlooking its garden. The meal showcased high-quality ingredients, had just the right portion size, and offered a luxurious start to the day. It made for an incredibly satisfying morning during our trip. Next time, I’d love to stay for multiple nights during cherry blossom or autumn foliage season to enjoy an even more leisurely experience. Thank you!

All exceptional private houses with VMG services

A historic house has been renovated to high standards, making it significantly more comfortable than other traditional Ryokan. This private rental property features an original tea room over 120 years old, a large garden, and three bedrooms. It offers an environment that feels like coming home. The staff at VMG provide heartfelt and attentive service, with multiple refrigerators stocked with complimentary drinks in the house. Taxi fares are covered for round trips to enjoy breakfast at Heian Shrine every morning. The soft aspects of the stay are impeccable. In today's Japan, where many Ryokan, Hotels, and restaurants face challenges due to labor shortages, VMG stands out by thoroughly training its personnel—a truly impressive effort. Their commitment to quality is evident in the way they renovate properties, manage their restaurants' offerings and operations, and maintain their employees' customer-focused attitudes. This was my first stay with the VMG group; however, I am now confident that I would like to explore other properties within the VMG group in the future beyond this Villa.
