    Although I often stay in Kirishima Onsen, this was my first time in Hitoyoshi Onsen, so I chose a relatively new Accommodation. It turned out to be the perfect choice, and on the way home my companion and I kept saying, “We’re glad we picked this place.” First of all, the Facility itself is new and very well cleaned, so check-in felt comfortable and pleasant. Next, the baths: both the indoor bath and open-air bath are stone-built with deep tubs; the water was pleasantly hot and gentle on the skin—truly a “beauty bath” quality—and I was very satisfied. Meals were served for both breakfast and dinner using local ingredients in thoughtful detail; everything was delicious in just the right portions. When visiting Kumamoto I had been hoping for basashi (horse sashimi), but it wasn’t included in this Plan; it was available to order separately, so I enjoyed it that way. What helped us most was assistance with making Reservations for lunch the next day and for activity facilities, as well as answering detailed questions. They kindly accommodated our requests—such as “I want to eat seasonal salt-grilled ayu” and “I’d like to try pottery on a wheel”—all with a smile. Thank you also for seeing us off even in light rain without opening an umbrella. The salt-grilled ayu at the restaurant you recommended was excellent, and we each made pottery pieces (a plate, a bowl, and a beer glass). After firing them in the kiln, they will be glazed in our requested colors that same day and then shipped to our home once finished—we’re looking forward to receiving them. I would love to visit again; however, there is one disappointing point: there is only one Room type available for stays of two or more people, so I would appreciate more options.     Highly satisfied

    It was very quiet, and we were able to relax. The Onsen temperature was just right, and we were satisfied with the meals. On our way back, we visited a nearby open garden. The roses were in full bloom, and it made for a wonderful trip. Thank you very much.

    The Ultimate Relaxing Retreat

    Just when I thought it was deep in the mountains with nothing around, there were AEON, UNIQLO, Nitori, and more nearby—perfect for killing time. The Hotel had an excellent layout, the bath was wonderfully hot, and the food was delicious with great attention to seasoning. Breakfast was served in the Room, so I could enjoy it at a relaxed pace. Everything was outstanding.

    Rainy Hitoyoshi

    This was our first stay at Ichifuji Ryokan. The premium Room was spacious, and we were able to relax and take it easy. Since it was raining, we didn’t use the open-air bath, but the indoor bath alone was more than enough. The proprietress’s courteous hospitality and kind words were wonderful, and although the staff were relatively young, they greeted us cheerfully and made us feel very satisfied. Dinner was served in a private dining room; it was bright with a pleasant atmosphere, and everything tasted great. It had a nice Japanese-Western fusion feel, with just the right amount of food—we left comfortably full. Perhaps because it hasn’t been open for very long, the scent of wood throughout was especially lovely. At checkout, the proprietress mentioned that we live nearby and invited us to come again. I generally return to Accommodations I enjoy, so I’d like to visit Ichifuji Ryokan again when I want to unwind and do nothing. Considering the Room size and the meals, I think the price is reasonable. It’s also within walking distance of AEON, which is convenient if you need anything or want to pick something up along the way. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    Impressed by the reconstruction

    Each Room was in a detached style, meals were served in a private dining room, and every Room had an open-air bath—an Accommodation that offered excellent privacy. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room with a stone open-air bath as three guests (my sister and us as a couple). The tatami room had futons and sliding doors, and the Western-style room with two beds also had its own door; both could be separated from the living area. The cuisine was a creative kaiseki course featuring plenty of local Hitoyoshi ingredients, and we were satisfied with both the quality and quantity. We were truly impressed by the effort to beautifully rebuild in another location after the damage from the Kumamoto heavy rains.

    Thoughtful hospitality is appreciated.

    We arrived with three motorcycles. When making the Reservation, we inquired about a covered parking area but were informed there was none. However, upon arrival, we found a tent set up for us. Thanks to this, we could park without worrying about the rain. Thank you very much. The food was delicious, and the Room was spacious with both an indoor and outdoor bath, allowing us to truly relax.

    Excellent!

    We stayed in early September. The facility was new and very comfortable. The onsen in the room allowed for temperature adjustment, so we could enjoy a relaxing bath at our own pace. The amenities provided were of high quality as well. All the meals were delicious. I especially loved the perfectly sized whole fried ayu fish—it was so good that I wanted seconds! The staff provided excellent service from start to finish, being both polite and kind, which made our stay very relaxing. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting Hitoyoshi! (Just a note: it might just be me, but when entering "Ichifuji Ryokan" into navigation or map apps, it sometimes shows the old location. Be sure to input "ICHIFUJI RYOKAN" correctly.)

    The dinner portion was just right, and it was enjoyable to try different brands of shochu that I hadn't known before. The building is still quite new, and the Room with a private open-air bath allowed for a relaxing soak. If I have the chance, I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    It was a quiet and clean accommodation.

    I stayed here during my trip to visit the sacred sites of "Natsume's Book of Friends." The accommodation is located in a quiet area, slightly away from the city. The building was clean, and each room was independent with excellent interior design. The hot spring water seemed to have a slight viscosity and was free-flowing. With both indoor and open-air baths available, I enjoyed them multiple times and was very satisfied. As I went out at night to see shadow art featuring characters from "Natsume's Book of Friends," I chose a plan without meals this time. However, next time, I would like to try a plan that includes meals. Although I dined out at night, the accommodation’s lock-up time being set at 12:00 AM allowed me to enjoy my evening without worrying about the time. The small figurine of "Nyanko-sensei" discreetly placed in the free drink corner delighted fans of "Natsume's Book of Friends." I'd love to visit again during a fireworks festival someday. Although traces of flood damage are still evident throughout the city, please keep up your efforts! I'll definitely return when restoration work on Tengu Bridge is completed.

    I would love to stay here again!

    We used this accommodation to enjoy a relaxing onsen experience during Golden Week. We stayed with our two small children, and they were thrilled with the spacious room and the open-air bath! Since it was Children's Day, we were delighted to find that they had prepared a special iris bath in the indoor bath. The onsen was absolutely amazing! My husband is a smoker, so he appreciated being able to smoke near the open-air bath. The breakfast was also incredibly delicious! The staff were kind and understanding despite our children's noisiness, which was very helpful. We would love to stay here again!

    Everything is wonderful.

    Due to my work, I stay at various Ryokans in different regions, and this one stands out as the top in terms of satisfaction with its excellent spring quality, service, facilities, and meals. I immediately vowed to revisit. They reopened last November at their current location after suffering devastating damage from the flooding of the Kuma River at their previous site. I can only imagine the long years of hardship they endured, making me hesitant to post a review arrogantly. It was my first time in Hitoyoshi, so I have no way of knowing what the previous facility was like, but the new property features separate rooms with onsen baths in each room and luxurious spaces abundantly using wood. They also value maintaining an appropriate distance from guests, allowing for a truly relaxing stay. The indoor bath and open-air bath in the room are impeccable. And then there's the delicious food—not just ordinary dishes but ones that reflect the chef's skill and dedication. It's a special Ryokan that many should experience yet one I'd like to keep secret.

    An onsen property in Hitoyoshi where couples can relax.

    This Ryokan has been newly opened in a different location after recovering from the flood in Hitoyoshi. Although it is a Ryokan, privacy is highly considered, and there is a system where meals, requested towels, and water are handed over through a small window, so there is no need to worry. You can feel the hostess's desire for guests to enjoy breakfast slowly without makeup, which made it very relaxing. Additionally, the staff's attentiveness was warm and characteristic of a Ryokan, blending modern and traditional elements for a comfortable experience. There are also many dining options nearby, making it convenient. Next time, I would like to try staying with two meals included.

    Kyushu Petit Tabi

    It was very nice to relax with my husband. It was quiet, and it was nice to be able to enter the Onsen whenever we wanted. The sea bream rice was very delicious. We were able to spend time leisurely without worrying about the time.
