    A Moment of Relaxation

    We stayed here during the Obon holiday on a trip to the Sanin region. The Room was a comfortable space that helped us unwind from our daily fatigue, and it was wonderful. We were also very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast, fully enjoying the bounty of Sanin’s sea and mountains! We are grateful for the warm hospitality of the staff and chef. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful anniversary.

    We stayed here for a special anniversary. The lovely Room decorations, delicious cake, and wine... It became a memorable stay. Close to the sea, and also conveniently located near Mizuki Shigeru Road. We enjoyed it to the fullest. Just one thing. In the bath and throughout the Room, we noticed some hair, other stray hairs, and small bits of trash on the floor, which concerned us a little. We understand that people other than guests may come in and out so it can’t be helped, but it did feel slightly unpleasant. Overall, it was a wonderful Ryokan. Thank you very much.

    I love traveling, and this time I stayed here with great anticipation after reading the wonderful Reviews and the information about the Accommodation. I don’t usually write Reviews, but I wanted to share my honest impressions this time, so I’m posting this. There is absolutely no ill intent. I hope it will be helpful for those considering a stay in the future. The other day, my spouse and I stayed on the “Tottori Jidori Piyo” plan—Tottori’s premium branded chicken—served as a Minatama-tei original menu. The Facility is still new, and its location on Mizuki Shigeru Road felt very convenient for sightseeing. The Room was clean and spacious, with a private feel thanks to features like an in-room sauna. However, what disappointed us most was the food. From the moment I saw the printed paper menu placed on the table, my expectations somehow faded. It was described as a full-course meal featuring Piyo chicken (Tottori’s branded chicken), but none of the dishes conveyed the quality of the ingredients, and there was no consistency in seasoning or overall direction. In particular, considering the price, the final Piyo chicken pilaf was surprisingly lacking in quality, and even tasted unevenly seasoned. Also, for some reason a fillet steak was served during the course. Since we chose a full course expecting to enjoy chicken throughout, it felt inconsistent with the concept and left us puzzled. Do those at this Accommodation truly feel that this content justifies this price range? If so, I believe it would be worth reconsidering. For anyone who considers food one of their main joys of travel, unfortunately I cannot recommend it.

    Promising potential for future growth.

    It seems to have opened only recently, and the Facility is very clean and well maintained. The food was excellent; in particular, the melt-in-your-mouth meat at dinner and the perfect grilling were outstanding. I was a bit surprised to hear that the Onsen uses pumped water. I understand that definitions of “natural spring source” and “free-flowing” can be ambiguous, and there may also be site policies, but since the source temperature was listed on the site, I assumed it was a diluted natural spring source. There were other guests staying with children who looked to be around elementary school or kindergarten age. However, the site clearly states that children of elementary school age and under cannot stay. To be honest, I chose this Accommodation—and paid this price—because it is a place where children are not allowed to stay, so I was left wondering why. There may have been circumstances on the Accommodation’s side (for example, they could not refuse acquaintances), but I also heard that guests may face penalties for smoking or bringing in outside food, so I feel it would be better for the Accommodation as well to follow its own rules. I have high expectations for its future potential.

    It was a spacious Room.

    The accommodation is newly opened, so the facility and equipment feel brand new. The room was spacious and comfortable. Thank you for the pleasant stay. Its proximity to Mizuki Road makes it an excellent base for enjoying Sakaiminato. Regarding meals, I believe there is room for improvement to match the impressive accommodation fee. For instance, when serving crab, providing a finger bowl or a fresh hand towel would be basic considerations. Additionally, since guests dine in front of an impressive teppan grill, it’s natural to expect dishes prepared on it. However, apart from grilling steak, most dishes were brought directly from the kitchen or merely warmed on the teppan grill (e.g., bouillabaisse). The steak ordered rare was not warm at its core. The bouillabaisse also took time to reach an appropriate temperature; seeing it heated with a gas burner beside the teppan suggests that its heat output might be insufficient. While flambé may have been part of the presentation, such performances feel outdated—something one might only encounter in places like Hawaii nowadays. Instead of focusing on such theatrics, prioritizing well-prepared dishes is more important. The crab rice served at the end seemed made from defrosted ingredients and had a strong odor that detracted from its taste—a disappointment indeed. Given your excellent teppan setup, preparing garlic rice would be delightful as an alternative; if serving crab rice remains your choice, freshly shelled crab mixed into freshly cooked rice on-site would elevate its quality significantly. On another note, breakfast was very traditional and enjoyable. This location has great potential; I look forward to seeing improvements in the future!

    Such a wonderful accommodation in Tottori!

    We visited with the Matsuba Crab Plan. We usually go to Fukui or Ishikawa in Hokuriku for crabs, but this was our first time trying Matsuba crab in Tottori. Both the price and content were highly satisfying. The crab was steamed on an iron plate, making it fluffy and incredibly delicious. The chef shared many stories about Tottori and crabs, making it a very enjoyable experience. The sommelier also provided clear explanations about the sake, allowing us to enjoy both the crab and delicious Japanese sake. The salmon we had for breakfast was the fluffiest and most flavorful we've ever had at any ryokan we've visited. Both the volume and quality of the meal were excellent. The open-air Onsen at Kaike Onsen warmed our bodies thoroughly, and we enjoyed it multiple times. The chef mentioned that depending on the season, tuna, oysters, or squid can be enjoyed as well. We look forward to visiting again during a different season. With its convenient location along Mizuki Shigeru Road near tourist attractions, we also enjoyed tasting delicious Japanese sake at a nearby historic brewery's standing bar. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We will definitely visit again! There was an earthquake in January; please stay safe everyone!

    Whole building rental

    We chose a place where we could feel at home and had a relaxing New Year’s stay. Upon arrival, we couldn’t find the parking lot and called for assistance. A woman kindly came out to meet us, running on the snow in heels, which left a lasting impression. Thank you very much!

    A very good accommodation, but it could be excellent with a bit more improvement.

    The atmosphere was very calm, and it was a great accommodation. While the ratings are quite high, I would like to raise a few suggestions for future improvements: - Is it acceptable that there is no one at the front desk after 10 PM? Does this encourage early to bed and early to rise? - The room windows only have sliding screens without curtains, allowing external light to come in directly. Does this also promote early sleeping and waking? - The welcome drink being amazake? Perhaps consider offering something more stylish since it's a special touch. - The teppanyaki dishes were too large in portion size, making it difficult for women to finish. With the chef present right in front of us watching closely, leaving food felt awkward. I managed to eat everything with some struggle, but honestly, it was tough. It's unfortunate because the taste was excellent. - There is no air conditioning in the bathroom or washroom area; stepping out of the bath felt uncomfortably hot.

    Disappointing

    I was excited to stay at a newly opened accommodation with an onsen and outdoor bath, and I have been exploring various places. This time, I was also looking forward to it, but upon arrival, there was no pick-up service from the parking lot. When being guided to the room, there was no offer to carry our luggage. Even our shoes were not arranged after we took them off or placed conveniently for wearing again. From the moment we arrived, it was one surprise after another. There was no explanation about the room either; even though it seemed like a tea room-themed accommodation, this feature wasn’t mentioned at all. Despite being an accommodation with an outdoor bath attached, each person only received one bath towel and one face towel. There were no extra towels for hand drying either, so we had to reuse used towels multiple times which felt uncomfortable. There were also no bathrobes provided. The website mentioned that samue (traditional workwear), yukata (casual kimono), and nightwear would be available; however, there were no samue prepared for us. When we inquired at the front desk about this issue, they informed us that they didn’t have our preferred sizes and could only provide one set for one person in our group. For what is considered a luxury accommodation experience, such things are unacceptable. My husband became upset because of these issues since I had chosen this place myself—it left me feeling quite down as well. Dinner consisted of wonderfully delicious dishes that thankfully improved my husband’s mood and gave me some relief! However morning breakfast mainly consisted of side dishes meant as accompaniments for rice rather than standalone items—this made us feel thirsty later on which caused discomfort. The outdoor stone bath lacked handrails or steps inside making it difficult—and potentially dangerous—for those with weak legs or poor mobility due its depth level design flaws. That said—the quality of Onsen itself truly stood out positively! We hope improvements will be made moving forward!

    Almost perfect, but a few

    The onsen was very comfortable, but I think it would be even better if there were bathrobes in the room. The teppan French dinner was excellent. The breakfast was also delicious, but considering the price, it would be nice if the quality could be elevated a notch by serving freshly grilled fish or adding freshly made dashimaki tamago. Overall, I am almost satisfied. As this is a new property, I look forward to its further development. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Enjoy a luxurious time.

    The spacious and luxurious Room features an open-air bath that can be accessed at any time. Both the Room and the bath are excellent, but the amenities and drink bar, stocked with local products, add a special touch. Dinner is French cuisine using plenty of local ingredients. The gentle dishes combining meat, fish, and vegetables complemented conversation and drinks. Breakfast is Japanese-style, also filled with local ingredients. Both dinner and breakfast offer a wide variety of dishes with gentle flavors that allow you to enjoy every bite to completion. With check-out until 11 am, you can leisurely enjoy the open-air bath even after breakfast. The staff's service was attentive as well. Overall, it was a luxurious and elegant experience that left me refreshed!

    A property where you can fully enjoy and experience Tottori with all five senses.

    This time, we stayed in a room called [静護-Jogo-]. The concept of this room is [Retreat & Clear], and it is a room with a black theme. When you open the door and enter the room, you feel a sense of security even though it's your first time, and your heart calms down, creating a mysterious feeling. All rooms are luxuriously designed with open-air baths, and the Jogo room had a stone bath. You can see a large TV from the stone bath, so I thought it was a wonderful point to be able to relax while watching your favorite TV show! (There are blinds on the windows, so you can hide the open-air bath from the room!) Everything, from the amenities and the basket with handles for carrying valuables around the property, to the drinks in the refrigerator, was filled with Tottori specialties, showing a dedication to detail. I especially loved the Tottori Sand Dunes Lavender Oil among the amenities, and I continue to use it even after returning home. Every time I use the oil and smell its fragrance, I remember the luxurious time spent in the Jogo room, realizing that it is a property that leaves a memory through the five senses. Dinner was all visually beautiful and delicious. The chef explained each ingredient and dish, and enjoying dinner while feeling the chef's dedication was a luxurious and very happy time. Breakfast also featured a colorful array of dishes, with a gentle flavor that was comforting from the morning. It was a wonderful breakfast that was fun to look at and fun to eat. After breakfast, they prepared coffee in a bottle for us, saying, "Please enjoy it slowly in your room," providing wonderful hospitality until the end. We were able to fully enjoy the room and service until checkout time. For those who want to feel extraordinary, as a reward for yourself, or on a special day with someone important... It was a truly recommended and wonderful property. It is a property filled with many charms that cannot be fully conveyed in words. I hope many people will stay and experience the meaning of the words [Enjoy Tottori with all five senses]...! The staff's response, the room, the food, the service... everything was very satisfying. I will use it again. Thank you for the wonderful experience and memories!

    A luxurious and elegant private space

    I heard that it opened in November along Mizuki Shigeru Road in Sakaiminato City, so I visited immediately. As soon as you enter the building, you are greeted by a staff member with a wonderful smile at the front desk, who guides you to your Room. The building consists of separate rooms, each with an open-air bath. This time, I stayed in the Mebuki Room. Surrounded by trees on all sides, it was a space that exuded warmth. There is also a raised seating area where you can stretch your legs and relax. And the open-air bath. It is a cypress bath, and the fragrance is simply wonderful. It was truly pleasant. Additionally, the amenities include a body soap with a striking local lavender scent and a shampoo & conditioner made from kuromoji, which is well-regarded for beauty. The refrigerator is stocked with local craft beer and pear juice, and there are coffee cups made by local potters. You can feel the charm of the region and the local area in the details, and I felt the dedication. Dinner is an original teppanyaki French course by a chef who has won numerous awards. The chef explains the seasonal ingredients while cooking right in front of you. Not only the main meat and fish but also the side vegetables show a commitment to local ingredients. Speaking of Sakaiminato, it's all about crab. On this day, a splendid red snow crab was served. The sweetness was strong, and it was clear that it was delivered fresh because it was local and cooked as is. The garlic fried rice with zha cai at the end was a taste and texture I had never experienced before, and I highly recommend trying it. The chef shared various stories about the ingredients, making the meal both delicious and enjoyable. The breakfast the next day was a Japanese set meal with many small dishes spread out before you. It was a feast for the eyes and the palate, and I couldn't stop feeling excited throughout. After the meal, I was handed coffee and cookies with the suggestion to relax in the Room, and I felt the meticulous hospitality. Since the number of rooms is limited, all services are attentive, and all the staff are warm, so I was able to have a pleasant stay. Also, the building is a single-story structure with no stairs, making it attractive for elderly and wheelchair users to enjoy with peace of mind. The location is excellent, being very close to an area rich in tourist attractions. I spent a luxurious and moving 1-night, 2-day stay.

    To commemorate your wedding anniversary!!

    We were looking for a ryokan to celebrate our wedding anniversary and found out that Mitama-tei had just opened, so we decided to stay! The room we stayed in was "Seisen - with Water Basin Terrace." After checking in, the manager served us matcha with yokan as a welcome treat! The matcha was special, with kuromoji powder, making it fragrant and easy to drink. The explanation of the facilities was thorough, and we were surprised to find that all the amenities were from the San'in region, showing their dedication! The weather was bad that day, so we couldn't walk around, but it was nice to know that just stepping outside would take us to Mizuki Shigeru Road. Meals were served in a separate building where the chef prepared teppanyaki right in front of us, giving us a special experience. The food was delicious, of course, and abundantly used ingredients from the San'in region! The chef was friendly and entertaining (laughs). After the meal, we ended the day by relaxing in a hinoki bath as a couple, enjoying the scent of the cypress. The amenities were made with special bamboo, and both the body soap and shampoo were also from the San'in region, with a pleasant scent and feel. There was a sachet by the bed that we could take home, and placing it beside us while sleeping allowed us to relax deeply. Breakfast was a luxurious Japanese meal, different from dinner, and it was a splendid start to the day! There were so many dishes that we needed a rice refill (laughs). Although it was just a one-night stay, we were able to relax and enjoy our time as a couple. We would love to use this place again on another special occasion.

    Luxurious relaxation time!

    I visited a newly opened Ryokan. Mizuki Shigeru Road is right next door, and as you pass through the noren, a serene atmosphere with autumn leaves and moss welcomes you. Upon entering the room, we were greeted with a service of "matcha and sweets." We were able to spend a relaxing time. Our room had a tea room, small but like a hidden room. Next time, I would like to make tea there. The drinks in the room include Nichinan tomato juice, pear cider, Daisen G beer, kuromoji tea, and Zeroken cafe, which are fun just to look at. I'm not a big fan of tomato juice, but it was so delicious that I drank it all at once, and I really liked the rare kuromoji tea. The clothing options were also abundant, with "yukata," "pajamas," and "samue." The amenities and tableware were all wonderful. And the food was truly delicious! Each dish was very elaborate, heartfelt, and impressive. Sushi with meat on red vinegar rice. A rare fish called "Kikana." I also tried Chateaubriand for the first time. The chef was friendly and talked to us, allowing us to enjoy our meal without any stiffness. The open-air bath with a view of the garden was filled with Kaike Onsen water, and it was such a nice bath that I could stay in it forever. Each room is a separate building with its own Onsen, so you can enter whenever you want and relax, allowing for a very luxurious time. Thank you very much! I would love to stay again.

    Personally, I thought there might be various improvements?

    My brother and I travel to various places two or three times a year, and we always used to visit a ryokan in Ishikawa Prefecture that has consistently ranked number one in a certain travel magazine for decades. Unfortunately, due to an earthquake, we were unable to visit this time. During this season, we would enjoy grilled crab served in the room, which we looked forward to. However, we decided to go somewhere else this time and learned about a newly opened property this month, so we made a reservation. When making the reservation, we initially chose the same room for two nights, but since it was a special occasion, we decided to upgrade one of the rooms to the best room available, which included a sauna. When changing the reservation, I contacted the property directly, and the woman who assisted us was extremely kind. We met her when we visited, and she was very pleasant. The service from all the staff at the property was impeccable. However, there were a few things that made me think, "Is this the standard for a property at this price?" First, we were shown to our room and served tea and sweets, but after that, no one came to the room at all. For guests who prefer to be left alone, this might be preferable, but at the ryokans we have visited before, staff would frequently come to the room to attend to various needs, so it was unexpected. The most surprising thing was that during this season, crabs are in season at Sakaiminato, and I thought most guests would be looking forward to enjoying them. However, there were no such crabs at the teppanyaki, which was quite disappointing. Nevertheless, the chef was top-notch, and the taste and presentation of the dishes were excellent. Next, regarding the room, the path to the bath was cold, and I was concerned about how it would be in colder weather. Also, while the amenities in the room were wonderful, there were no shampoos or body soaps in the bathroom, which was very inconvenient. Breakfast was excellent. The staff's careful serving and attentiveness were perfect, with nothing to complain about. Although I have written various things, my personal impression was that the price and hospitality did not quite match. I believe the property will continue to improve and become a wonderful place, so I will visit again when I am in the area. Thank you very much for your hospitality this time.

    Luxury of Kaike Onsen's hot springs and sauna, and teppan French cuisine in Sakaiminato

    I heard that a small luxury hotel with separate buildings opened in Sakaiminato, so I decided to stay there immediately. It is a 3-minute walk from Sakaiminato Station, and beyond the noren along "Mizuki Road," lined with statues of characters from GeGeGe no Kitaro, are four single-story buildings, each over 100 square meters, serving as "rooms." The water for the open-air baths in each room is natural onsen water transported from Kaike Onsen. You can have the cypress open-air bath all to yourself, soaking up to your shoulders. Only the "Kokon" room we stayed in this time has a private sauna in the garden. It's made in Finland. After enjoying the onsen and sauna, there's local beer in the refrigerator. This room has a bar corner where you can also enjoy locally produced whiskey. The spacious room features solid wood flooring and furniture, along with soft bedding and towels... The accommodation fee is on the higher side, but it's worth it. The interior, furniture, facilities, and amenities are all of high quality. I was impressed by the very high quality of the amenities. I liked the locally produced solid shampoo & conditioner and basic cosmetics so much after just one use that I want to purchase and use them in the future. Meals are served in a dining area located in the management building on the premises. Dinner is a visually delightful teppan French cuisine. Breakfast also featured a colorful array of Japanese dishes, which were delicious. There were Japanese-style footwear available for exploring Mizuki Road in yukata or hanten, so after dinner, we went for a night walk to see the yokai. The hospitality of the manager and chef was pleasant, and it was a property where delicious, beautiful, and comfortable domestic and local products gathered. I heard that there are additional exterior construction plans for the facility, and I rated it a 4 not because something was lacking, but because it is not yet perfect. However, I think it is a well-prepared property. Next time, I would like to visit with someone special.

    A breathtaking experience! It was the best Stays!

    I had decided to stay at a special property once a year, and upon learning about the opening of Mitama Residence, I visited. Arriving at 6 PM, entering the grounds of the property felt like stepping into another world. The soft lighting of the indirect lights on the modern Japanese buildings (each room is a separate building) lined up in the garden heightened my expectations. After checking in, I headed to "Seisen," a detached room on the Sea of Japan side. The word "luxurious" perfectly describes this room. I was truly impressed by the various touches of hospitality unique to the San'in region scattered throughout the room. I took a break with matcha (with kuromoji powder) and yokan. Although it's all-inclusive, there is a wide selection of drinks made with ingredients unique to Tottori Prefecture. - Coffee from a popular local shop - Daisen G Beer - Pear cider (I've never had a drink that feels so much like a pear!) - Tomato juice I relaxed while gazing at the garden. Finally, the long-awaited meal. The dishes are all exquisite, focusing on local ingredients. Especially the Tottori Wagyu beef and the crab caught at Sakaiminato were exceptional. The chef, who has been a head chef at famous local hotels, provided humorous explanations of the dishes, making them even more delicious. The garlic rice and miso soup I had at the end were also superb. And then the bath. The cypress bath in the outdoor bath of the room exudes the scent of cypress with the steam, providing relaxation through the aroma. Surprisingly, the shampoo and body soap are also from San'in brands. I was filled with discovery and excitement, thinking, "Such wonderful things exist in San'in!" I enjoyed my own space and time as I went to sleep. The bed was also very comfortable. With such continued excitement, breakfast was, of course, exceptional. The steaming hot rice (apparently produced by local farmers) and the various side dishes that go well with rice were outstanding. The deliciousness of the rice stood out so much that I had seconds. (The person who served breakfast was very cheerful and made me feel energized. I was happy when they kindly said, "Please have seconds of rice.") Although it was just a one-night stay, I felt my daily fatigue gradually melting away, allowing me to spend a relaxing time. Next time, I want to stay with my husband.

    The Room of "静護-Jogo" is excellent!

    I stayed in the Jogo Room with a tea room (twin). As soon as you enter the room's entrance, the open-air bath catches your eye, and you can't help but exclaim. The room is chic with a monotone theme. Opening the small sliding door next to the bed revealed a tea room, which heightened my excitement. I relaxed with a welcome drink of matcha with kuromoji and a white yokan treat, and enjoyed a walk before dinner as the "Mizuki Shigeru Road" was right outside the back entrance. Dinner was a "Chef's Original Teppanyaki French Course," with carefully selected ingredients and exquisite sauces, all of which were excellent, and the dessert was also delicious! Having just opened on 11/15, the property is beautiful and exudes a luxurious atmosphere with a sense of style in every corner. The mini-bar utensils were also wonderfully curated, elevating my mood. The kuromoji shampoo & conditioner bar in the amenity set was a soap type, so I was concerned about it making my hair rough, but it lathered well and left my hair smooth, and the pleasant scent of kuromoji filled the room, which I loved! The open-air bath uses the water from Kaike Onsen, and the warmth in my feet lasted until bedtime. The indoor bath was also clean, spacious, and comfortable! The sachet placed by the bedside had a nice fragrance, allowing me to sleep soundly. The room's refrigerator contained two types of local beer, tomato juice, and pear cider, all of which were very delicious. Breakfast was visually appealing and focused on health-conscious ingredients, allowing me to enjoy the natural flavors. I appreciated being able to bring my coffee back to the room after breakfast, enjoying it leisurely. The staff's service was kind, and the space was quiet and private. It's a highly recommended luxury stay where you can enjoy a special time with a loved one and experience the charm of Tottori with all your senses.

    I can't believe there's such a Stays in Tottori (Sakaiminato)!

    There are many onsen ryokans in Tottori Prefecture, but I don't think there were any that were "special" or "luxurious." This one is limited to four groups. Each room has a concept, and I heard that each has its own atmosphere and special feeling, so I was really looking forward to it!! Since it is "newly opened" and called "small luxury," the room was so beautiful that I couldn't help but exclaim as soon as I entered! The "Mizuki Shigeru Road" in front of us is bustling with tourists, but as soon as you step inside the premises, it instantly transforms into a quiet and calming atmosphere. (It was actually quiet, and it felt like the air had changed!) The open-air bath, with its silky texture typical of Kaike Onsen, warmed me up thoroughly. In the coming season, relaxing in this onsen in the room is the best! The amenities were well-stocked, and the kuromoji shampoo bar and conditioner bar, which I used for the first time, were surprisingly good, with great lather, fragrance, and a smooth finish that I really liked! Kuromoji was used throughout the room, and the tea, distilled water spray, and sachets were very relaxing. (I thought I wanted to buy them) What was even more amazing was the restaurant exclusively for guests. The chef prepared and served the dishes right in front of us, and every dish of authentic teppan French cuisine was truly delicious and very satisfying. Being in Sakaiminato, the ingredients were also top-notch. The dinner, cooked by a professional, was exceptionally delicious. The chef and staff were very kind and pleasant, and that, too, contributed to a happy experience. Relaxation, food, people, hospitality. Overall, I was very satisfied! I thought there were no luxury stays in Sakaiminato, Tottori, so it was really great. It was an extraordinary and rewarding time at a special property. Such a leisurely and quiet place. There are not many properties where you can spend private time, so I highly recommend experiencing it with someone special on a special day or during a trip!
