    More like a slightly luxurious mountain lodge than a Hotel

    The food and the Onsen were both excellent, and the staff were very kind. The raclette was especially delicious. Rather than a Hotel, it feels like a stylish mountain lodge. The Onsen is also available for day use, but amenities are limited to shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, so women will need to bring all basic skincare items. The Room’s air conditioning is quite strong, so it can get fairly cold. The bath water is a bit hot but very relaxing; however, the rubber seal under the glass shower door was coming loose, and after showering water leaked into the Room and left the floor soaked. Also, because the sink has an automatic faucet, it’s hard to fill a kettle. A regular faucet would have been better. You can take a walk all the way around on the far side of the campsite. They also lent us binoculars, so we could see red-crowned cranes and deer even from far away.

    It truly felt like a...

    It truly felt like an Onsen Facility beloved by the local community, with an Accommodation wing added on. Parking spaces right in front are not reserved for guests staying overnight. The towels were very thin and provided only in the minimum number (they will replace them if they get wet). This is something I occasionally encounter at other Accommodations as well, but when a guest room has a private Onsen bath and there are no towels in the large public bath, it would be greatly appreciated if two sets of towels were provided from the start. The indoor footwear was like disposable slippers from a 100-yen shop (laugh). As mentioned in other Reviews, I wondered about the “sound” from the in-room Onsen, but it didn’t bother me—perhaps because they had covered the faucet with cloth as a countermeasure. If families with children stay on the second floor, footsteps may indeed carry. That said, for this price (I made my Reservation quite a while ago, so it was under 50,000 yen for two people), I felt they did a commendable job with the food. I just wished the bread had been served hotter. Service at the restaurant was also polite and left a good impression. The open-air bath in the large public bath early in the morning—when there were fewer insects—was refreshing and very pleasant.

    A lovely building

    It’s a wonderful building—stylish and chic. However, there were some aspects that felt inconvenient for me personally. The wash area is small and feels like it was added later, and the water temperature cannot be adjusted (so it can’t be helped). Since it’s still summer, cold water was fine, but it might be difficult in winter. The amenities were placed too far away (toothbrushes, etc. were set up away from the wash area), so I had to look for them. The high ceiling is nice, but footsteps from the upper floor echo loudly. It was so noisy that I couldn’t sleep at night. I hope you will consider what kind of guests are assigned to the upper floor. Dinner was delicious across all menus. It would be nice to have more varieties of wine by the glass. The bath facilities are great; I felt they were sufficient even without a Room with a private bath. The in-Room bath wasn’t that bad either. For Rooms with a private bath, having two bath towels per person might be more convenient. The staff seemed focused only on their own tasks. I would like them to be a bit kinder to guests who are having trouble.

    The staff were very helpful, but it was disappointing that the price did not match what was offered.

    I stayed here with high expectations. The staff were kind and courteous, which made the negatives regarding the Room environment and cleanliness all the more disappointing. The biggest source of stress was noise. I could clearly hear TVs from other Rooms, as if the walls were thin. On top of that, between around 1:00 and 2:00 a.m., an intermittent clanging sound—apparently from staff work—echoed through the night, and I couldn’t fall asleep at all. It made me question their consideration for guests during late-night hours. The Room layout was also inconvenient overall, including the placement of power outlets. In addition, there was mold on the ceiling and walls of the in-room bath, and because it felt so unpleasant, I couldn’t truly relax or enjoy a long soak in the Onsen. The meals also lacked a strong “Hokkaido” feel compared to what I had expected, so they felt underwhelming. Because the staff were genuinely good, it’s especially unfortunate that the Facility quality and overall environment do not match the Accommodation Fee at all. In the end, it felt like I was paying a premium only for the stylish atmosphere. It’s such a shame because this Accommodation has real potential.

    A New Hotel Nestled in Lush Greenery

    This Hotel features an outstanding design, with abundant use of wood throughout the property, including the guest rooms. Although the design is very simple, it was efficient in many ways. The Facility was very clean and well organized.

    The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is delicious. Waking up early is recommended.\nAround 4:30 a.m., there were about 30 deer around the Hotel. They were gone by the time the staff arrived for work.

    We recommend using this facility as a day-use Onsen.

    I felt there was no clear distinction between day-use Onsen visitors and overnight guests. My impression was that this Accommodation is best suited for those who want to support a public facility aimed at local revitalization. The meals were delicious and satisfying. The Onsen is open to the public until 9:00 PM, and it is extremely crowded until then, making it difficult to relax. Overnight guest-only hours are limited to 9:00 PM–12:00 AM and 5:00 AM–8:00 AM, so you need to stay up late or wake up early to enjoy it calmly. In addition, when I went to the open-air bath after 9:00 PM, someone was lying down at the entrance, making it impossible to enter without stepping over them. I consulted the Facility, but they said it would be difficult to patrol or warn guests at night because there are no female staff on duty. The parking lot was not prioritized for overnight guests either, so I had to look for an available space in the middle of the congestion. Most staff were kind; however, at check-in I was strongly asked to write my age. When I asked why, I was told it was “to call an ambulance in an emergency.” If this is required by policy, I feel there could be other ways to confirm it (such as showing a driver’s license). Being pressured as a woman to write my age felt insensitive and lacking consideration. The Room was new, well cleaned, and very tidy. It is minimal overall but sufficient for one night. However, there was no luggage rack, so it was hard to find space for an open suitcase. Also, west-facing Rooms are right next to a public area used by day visitors; when you open the door you are immediately in a public space and cannot fully relax. To go to the Onsen you also have to pass in front of reception every time, which felt inconvenient. In addition, there were no blackout curtains—only shoji screens—so the Room became bright around 5:00 AM and I couldn’t sleep in. The bed is a Japanese-style setup with a mattress on the floor; when getting up at night for the toilet you need extra care not to trip, which was challenging for me as someone used more standard beds. It is a very new Facility with excellent design quality; however, if you regularly stay at hotels and expect a certain level of customer service standards throughout your stay (including guest management), I honestly find it hard recommend. The location offers good access toward Kushiro Shitsugen National Park (Kushiro Marsh), so it was disappointing because if we had liked this stay we would have wanted return next time as well. However,, if using only as day-use Onsen visit for 1,,000 yen,, it's new clean facility that seems like good value..

    A quiet setting wher...

    A quiet setting where you can hear only the wind of the Kushiro Marsh and birdsong, along with the scent of wood from the floors and furniture—it is very calming. A luxurious time with nothing around. The meals were delicious, but what concerned me a little was noise from the neighboring Room. It disturbed the tranquility. I would like to visit again in a different season.

    The Onsen was wonderful!!

    Our Room was on the second floor facing the parking lot, and we had a beautiful view of the sun setting. The Room itself was spacious and very functional, but it was a shame that, due to the built-in sofa’s orientation and the window placement, we couldn’t relax on the sofa while enjoying the view outside. Maybe rooms with odd numbers have a better view... There are three indoor baths, an open-air bath, and a sauna as well—plenty to enjoy! The guided tour offered in the morning is also recommended. We were able to borrow binoculars and saw Hokkaido squirrels and long-tailed tits (Shima-enaga). The meals were clearly prepared with care using many ingredients, and everything tasted great. However, I think it would be even more enjoyable if there were fewer dishes or ingredients overall, with more emphasis on fresh local produce and seasonal items—something that makes you look forward to visiting again. Simple preparations like grilling or steaming, or enjoying ingredients with just salt to highlight their natural flavors, would make for an even more memorable experience. Also, it was disappointing that local wine was only available by the bottle. I’m not sure whether your target guests are mainly from within Hokkaido or from outside the region, but as someone visiting from outside Hokkaido, I’d be thrilled if there were more “only here” foods and experiences unique to Hokkaido—especially Kushiro and Shibecha—which would make me excited to return!

    An Eco-Friendly Resort Hotel in a Wonderful Natural Setting

    Is this an example of the government’s policies to disperse inbound tourism and promote appropriate use of national parks? The other day I stayed at Hoshino Resorts’ lodge at Oze Hatomachi, and this is an Onsen Accommodation located within Kushiro National Park. It is owned by Shibetsu Town and operated by a designated manager, Kyoritsu Resort. It has been about two years since opening. As expected from Kyoritsu Resort, the cuisine is excellent—the head chef comes from a well-known Hotel in Kushiro—and both dinner and breakfast were fully satisfying. If there is one drawback, it accepts day-use bathing by the general public until 9 p.m. Staff skill levels also vary. The setting, in a general zone within the national park, is exceptional and hard to find—something the private sector cannot easily replicate. I look forward to how it will be utilized going forward.

    I was able to relax.

    The Onsen warmed both my body and soul. I also appreciated the Shuttle Service from the station to the Accommodation. It was a little disappointing that the late-night soba service was no longer available, but I was very satisfied because the complimentary Shibecha milk smoothie was delicious. Both dinner and breakfast were high quality and served in just the right portions, with thoughtful touches in every dish, so I enjoyed everything until the end. I especially liked the tartare at dinner. The venison sausage and venison keema curry at breakfast were also excellent, and since they are not something you often find elsewhere, I would be happy if they continued even though they were listed as limited-time items. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    The exterior and interior design, created by Kengo Kuma, is visually appealing. However, the large windows in the room are only covered with shoji screens, lacking blinds or blackout curtains to block outside light. As a result, natural light enters the room at dawn, making it difficult to sleep well. The bed is more like a futon placed on a wooden raised platform, which makes it inconvenient to get up and step down from the bedding. To access the onsen on the first floor, guests must descend stairs and pass through the main entrance and front desk. Additionally, there are no baskets provided in the room for carrying items to the onsen. This could lead to situations where guests might have to carry their clothes openly—something that may be uncomfortable for some guests, particularly women. The layout of the baths places the men's bath in plain view along one direction while positioning the women's bath in a less visible area closer to a blind spot. This creates concerns about safety as entry into these areas is not monitored; there are no doors or security measures beyond simple noren curtains separating them just meters apart. Early morning or late-night bathing feels unsafe due to these conditions. Meals consist of stylish Italian-inspired course dishes that are delicious but lack detailed explanations about each menu item. Providing such information would enhance enjoyment since it seems likely that ingredients were carefully selected and prepared by skilled chefs. While wildlife such as Hokkaido squirrels and birds can be observed outside, there is no explanation or informational material provided about them. Although located adjacent to a lake with spacious grounds surrounding it, there is also no guidance regarding access or details about exploring these areas. During check-in service lacks attentiveness; suitcases are not assisted into rooms despite additional items like loungewear being handed over at reception for guests themselves carry along with their luggage—adding inconvenience rather than comfort! Staff interactions feel impersonal & overly procedural instead friendly welcoming atmosphere expected hospitality industry settings! Room faucets operate via sensors yet filling kettle fridge-stored water described tasty proves frustratingly difficult aligning hands correctly trigger flow properly functioning mechanism detracts overall experience unnecessarily complicating basic tasks! Overall impression suggests insufficient consideration guest perspectives during stay resulting significant potential improvements needed especially soft services ensuring memorable positive experiences align expectations premium accommodations featuring highlights natural hot springs fine dining offerings currently undermined operational shortcomings!

    The room does not need a semi-open-air bath.

    The accommodation is adjacent to a day-use hot spring facility and has a simple structure. "Yachibouzu no Yu" was slightly crowded, likely due to the holiday, with many locals enjoying it. The slightly salty water leaves your skin feeling smooth. Since it was close to our room, we used it multiple times. However, the outdoor bath does not offer views of Lake Shirarutoro, nor are there walking paths leading to the lake. We stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath this time, but the bath was surprisingly small and narrow. Additionally, the step into the tub is quite high and may pose a risk for elderly guests. It made us wonder why it was designed this way. That said, the quality of the water itself was excellent. The milk smoothie after bathing was delicious as well! The room had an unusual layout that might feel convenient or inconvenient depending on personal preference. A terrace would have been a nice addition. The dining area felt more like an eatery than a restaurant. We enjoyed Western-style dishes that were delicious and appreciated their extensive selection of wines and other alcoholic beverages.

    The Onsen and cuisine were excellent.

    I stayed at Ponpoyuni while looking for a hotel within the Kushiro Wetlands. The onsen was amazing! There were several types of baths, and my skin felt so smooth. However, there were no amenities in the changing area, so I wish they had at least provided a comb. The French dinner was incredibly delicious and highly recommended. That said, the open-air bath in the guest room was small, and perhaps because of the white walls, it attracted insects easily, so I decided not to use it. I would love to stay here again when visiting the Kushiro Wetlands!

    I would love to visit this Hotel again.

    It was a very quiet and lovely Hotel. The Room was spacious, new, and clean. The Onsen's water quality made my skin smooth and warmed me up from the core. The smoothie after the bath was very delicious. The meals were also tasty. I will definitely stay here again.

    A 2-night, 3-day trip for a couple

    We stayed for a 2-night, 3-day trip as a couple during the Obon holiday. We were drawn to the renovated facility designed by Kengo Kuma and made a reservation. Since it is not an accommodation for large groups, there were fewer guests, allowing us to enjoy close and comfortable interactions with the staff. The meals were incredibly delicious, and we appreciated that the menu was changed on the second day. A staff member jokingly said, "The third day's meal will be even better," which added a personal touch that we enjoyed. From the dining room window, you can see wild deer—highly recommend sitting by the window! We created wonderful memories here. Thank you very much!

    "Pon Pon Yu" by Lake...

    "Pon Pon Yu" by Lake Shirarutoro exceeded expectations. The spacious Room made of wood was very comfortable and user-friendly. "Yachibouzu no Yu" was also available for day visitors, but it provided great relaxation after a long journey. After dinner, I enjoyed the bath in the Room. Dinner featured dishes made with natural ingredients like seafood, paired perfectly with Tokachi wine. Breakfast was mainly Japanese-style, including sashimi and crab miso soup, which were very satisfying. The waitress's service was pleasant and refreshing. Lake Shirarutoro is located down the slope behind the property; I only found it after asking at reception—an information map would be helpful. If the dinner menu differs between the first and second nights, I would love to plan a Multiple Night Stay next time to fully relax!

    A new Hotel in Shibecha Town. Enjoy the natural flow of Onsen and excellent meals. However, the check-in service is lacking. No welcoming upon arrival, no assistance with luggage, no greeting at the entrance, and no guidance to the Room—none of it is provided. First, focus on improving the payment process. Since there are Japanese staff members, please ensure proper training to enhance guests' stay at the Hotel.

    The Onsen and meals were excellent.

    The large Onsen bath features three tubs with different temperatures, allowing for a relaxing soak in lukewarm water. This time, we stayed during a summer trip, but we would love to visit again in winter to enjoy the Onsen and snowy scenery. The post-bath milk smoothie was light and tasted like soft-serve ice cream—delicious! The meals were beautifully presented, and every dish—vegetables, seafood, and meat—was incredibly satisfying. While Hokkaido wine was available by the bottle, it was disappointing that there were only one red and one white French wine option by the glass. Given how excellent the cuisine was, a pairing set featuring Hokkaido wines would make it perfect. Please consider this suggestion!
