It was wonderful.
We stayed for two nights because we were drawn to the idea of renting the entire house. It was wonderful. Although it’s a 150-year-old traditional house, it has been carefully renovated and the air conditioning works well, so even in peak summer we were able to stay comfortably. As for the facilities such as the Room and bath, they are as others have already described, so I’ll omit those details here. Instead, I’d like to comment on the “soft” aspects. There was an LP record player and more than a dozen records. The selection was wonderfully tasteful. They had LPs by Bill Evans and Sonny Rollins, and since Sonny Rollins passed away recently, I enjoyed a beer while listening to his music in remembrance—pure bliss. Upstairs, there is a study created by renovating what used to be a silkworm room. The bookshelves were lined with fascinating titles, including some recent books as well. It was fun imagining who chose these books and why. The most moving discovery was finding old Reclam editions on a bookshelf next to the dining area. I knew of Reclam only by name from “To Readers” in the Iwanami Bunko series, but this was my first time seeing them in person. I picked up Richard Benz’s “Goethe und Beethoven,” among others, and spent some time simply gazing at German that I can’t really read. It seems this place may once have been Kikushima Clinic (I assume the old concrete building on the right after entering the gate used to be it). Were those Reclam volumes part of its owner’s personal library? It felt like stepping back into Japan’s Meiji or Taisho era. The staff service was also excellent. Everyone seemed young overall, but there was nothing lacking—friendly yet respectfully keeping an appropriate distance. You can tell their training is thorough. This is one Accommodation I would love to visit again. Just one small point: having only one toilet was a bit inconvenient.

We had a stay that exceeded our expectations and imagination.
We visited as a family of four, meeting up at Yamanashishi Station with our eldest son who lives in Tokyo and the three of us who drove from Kansai. As we got closer to the Accommodation, the country road shown by the navigation system made us think, “Could it really be this way?” and we struggled a little. If I had to mention any negatives from this trip, it would be that—and that the washbasin sink was black, so water marks were slightly noticeable after use. Upon arrival, we were surprised by how distinct and impressive it looked compared with its surroundings. We arrived about 30 minutes earlier than planned, but we were warmly welcomed and smoothly shown inside, which left a great first impression. The moment we opened the tasteful sliding entrance door set back from the gate, we were moved by the view stretching from the pine tree in the center courtyard all the way to the kura storehouse building across it. While preserving many historical elements—such as exterior walls, tiled roof, and pillars—the interior has been renovated into a clean and refined space that feels wonderful to spend time in. In both the audio room at the back where you can listen to records and the second-floor study stocked with everything from relatively recent Japanese literature to art books and foreign titles, there were chairs and ottomans in different styles arranged throughout. We were able to forget everyday life and relax at length. These spaces became favorites for my wife and daughter, who have a strong appreciation for music and art. My eldest son and I also used the sauna in the separate kura building across the courtyard before dinner. It’s available 24 hours; he enjoyed it late at night, while I went again after breakfast the next morning. In addition to a cold plunge bath there is also a regular bathtub; together with the indoor hinoki cypress bath in main building where you can fully stretch out your legs, there are two bathing options. Dinner and breakfast were served in another kura building on opposite side , featuring thoughtfully crafted dishes using plenty of local ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed everything—especially Koshu-style sukiyaki with beef and horse meat paired with three dipping sauces—alongside wine we picked up on our way there. After dinner we projected onto a large screen with projector held family drama viewing night for all four of us. We slept in bedroom where four beds could be lined up comfortably side by side. They even provided charging cables at each bedside equipped with three types of connectors—we were impressed by such attention to detail. Speaking of details: along with alcohol , refrigerator was stocked plenty chilled mineral water which was very helpful given season . There was also an assortment of nostalgic snacks card games insect-repellent items etc., showing both thoughtfulness playfulness. A location completely removed from noise spacious layout well-maintained Facilities lacking nothing an endlessly interesting interior blending old new perfectly—and being able enjoy all without interference as family four. It exceeded our expectations imagination. We’re glad chose this place for one those precious few times each year when whole family can gather . Thank you for your attentive hospitality .

We stayed here for my husband’s birthday.
The first thing that surprised us upon arrival was how spacious the Room was! We were told that the second-floor Room had just been converted into a study lounge, and a new bedroom had been created on the first floor, making it feel wonderfully open and comfortable. My husband loves saunas, so he visited the kura sauna again and again. I spent my time relaxing in the study lounge, reading nostalgic books. Before I knew it, time had flown by—it was so cozy that I found myself thinking, “Is it already this late?” One night definitely wasn’t enough. Although it’s a historic traditional house, the bathroom facilities and bedroom were very comfortable. It was also impressive how beautifully the old-world charm and modern touches were blended together. Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local ingredients, and every dish was delicious. Since it was my husband’s birthday, they also prepared a fruit plate with peaches for us, which made us very happy. We also received ice cream from a nearby craft ice cream shop as an early-summer limited treat—it was so good that we ended up stopping by the shop on our way home. It was wonderful to discover local places thanks to this Accommodation. All of the staff were incredibly kind, and we were able to celebrate my husband’s birthday at a relaxed pace. We heard the autumn foliage in the garden is beautiful, so we’d love to visit during leaf season next time. Next time, we’d like to stay longer with a Multiple Night Stay instead of just one night.

We stayed here as a couple.
We stayed here for our anniversary as it was recommended as a great place to visit somewhere we had never been before. The location is in a peaceful, open area surrounded by mountains, and we were truly moved by scenery you rarely see around Osaka. The Accommodation is an enormous historic residence far beyond what we imagined. With a living room, bedroom, bath (with sauna), dining area, and courtyard, it was thoughtfully designed so there was always something to enjoy—our first stay here kept us excited the whole time. We loved the harmony between antique furnishings and state-of-the-art systems. It felt nostalgic yet completely comfortable, and the design never grew tiring—truly impressive. The carefully selected ingredients and wines were unlike anything we had experienced before. Even the dining space itself felt special, and our conversation never stopped. Thanks to the staff’s detailed explanations of the history and their dedication to every detail, my wife and I had an extremely satisfying stay. It has become a memorable place we would love to return to someday.

A Hidden Gem Accommodation in Yamanashi
The traditional Japanese house had a wonderful atmosphere, and we were able to relax and enjoy some quiet time. The sauna and cold plunge were authentic and felt amazing. The Room was clean, and we could unwind while looking out at the garden. We’d love to visit again in a different season.

My spouse and I stay...
My spouse and I stayed here together. We’ve stayed at many Accommodations, but this was the first time we’ve ever had such a special experience. It’s an Accommodation renovated from a traditional old house, and everywhere we looked showed great taste. We were truly impressed by how it preserves its classic charm while being thoughtfully designed for comfort. It felt as if time was moving more slowly. In the evening, we relaxed while listening to records. In everyday life we tend to be on our phones all the time, so being able to spend such calm time together as a couple was the best part. Not only the building and Facilities, but also the small amenities and interior details reflected real care. It was fun browsing the books on display and spotting little surprises like a daruma doll. On our way home, we kept saying to each other, “We want to come back.” This is a wonderful Accommodation I’d recommend for anniversaries or any special occasion.

I don’t want to go home—this Accommodation feels so comfortable.
I was looking for an Accommodation with these conditions: - Within 2 hours by car from Tokyo (from Setagaya) - With a sauna - With a garden or nature outdoors Above all, the sauna mattered most, so I searched with the sauna as the main focus. And this place came up! In short: I was completely satisfied—absolutely the right choice! A wonderful entrance, and smiling staff welcomed us. They kindly offered to carry our luggage from the car to the building, but since I only had one backpack, I carried it myself. Even so, their kindness really warmed my heart. The building has an elegant design that makes you think someone important must have lived here in the past. (In fact, it belonged to a doctor’s family for five generations.) It has also been carefully renovated into a refined, noble Japanese-modern space. After a thorough explanation, I walked around with a cup of kuromoji tea in hand and took countless photos. Before dinner: exploring and photographing the building—and just one quick sauna session. Feeling refreshed, it was time for dinner. They use local ingredients and even incorporate items from the garden—such thoughtful attention to detail. Everything was delicious; smoked eggs with horse meat were amazing, and the sukiyaki was exceptional. After dinner, I did some work at my laptop to rest my stomach. I worked for about an hour; thanks to how wonderful the space is, I stayed focused—and finally made up my mind about something I’d been needing to decide. Feeling clear-headed again, it was back to the sauna! The sauna is large enough for about 4–5 people and you can do self-service löyly—exactly what I wanted! There’s also a cold plunge bath next to it as well as a hot bath. Into the sauna and then löyly. The steam feels incredible; lying down in the sauna warms your body evenly! The cold plunge isn’t extremely cold, but it feels like your body absorbs the water—such great water quality. Stay in a bit longer than usual, then head outside for fresh-air relaxation. This is truly excellent. This season there aren’t many bugs, and nights are pleasantly cool—perfect after a sauna! I slowly repeated: sauna → cold plunge → outdoor air bath. I also soaked in the hot bath—and before I knew it, about three hours had passed (lol). It’s been ages since I felt this deeply “reset.” It reminded me how much I truly love saunas! Staring at pine trees outside while zoning out with bottled cola—an unreal escape from everyday life that made me genuinely happy. No matter where you are or where you sit here, you feel calm—I caught myself saying “this feels so good” over and over (lol). I’m glad we found this place—and glad we chose it. I really didn’t want to leave… but now we’re back in Tokyo (lol). So that we can come back again someday—even while feeling crushed by Tokyo—I’m going to keep working hard! Definitely again!

We visited as a coup...
We visited as a couple. While preserving the charm of a traditional Japanese house, the water facilities and amenities were exceptionally clean, which pleasantly surprised us. The bath in particular felt open and spacious, allowing us to relax and enjoy an escape from everyday life. Every corner of the property had a calm atmosphere, and spending time in the tatami Room while listening to music was especially comfortable. Since it is rented as an entire house, it was also great to be able to stay without worrying about others. The staff were attentive while maintaining a comfortable sense of distance, and we enjoyed a pleasant stay from start to finish. One small disappointment was that it is not an Onsen. Still, we left saying to each other, “We want to come back again.”

Luxurious Space
My spouse and I stayed at Kikushima Residence. Having the entire house to ourselves was a true luxury, and we were able to relax without worrying about anyone around us. The atmosphere of this historic traditional home was incredibly soothing, and it felt special to have the sauna and bath completely private as well. The meals featured mainly local ingredients, each dish carefully prepared and truly delicious, allowing us to enjoy a slow, unhurried stay together. This is an Accommodation I genuinely recommend for anyone who wants to step away from everyday life and spend quiet time as a couple. We would love to visit again in a different season.

It exceeded my expectations.
The building is a 150-year-old traditional house full of character, yet the interior is very clean and comfortable—an inviting space that naturally makes you want to slow down and relax in nature. In the quiet atmosphere, reading a book or simply doing nothing felt truly luxurious. With a bath and dining area set in a Meiji-era storehouse, it was an extraordinary space—and the one-night stay flew by. This Accommodation is highly recommended for anyone who wants to forget the rush of city life and unwind.

A recommended, quiet, and elegant Hotel for adults, conveniently close to the city center!
I stayed for one night. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and I felt truly refreshed both physically and mentally! I highly recommend this Hotel for adults who want to relax at a leisurely pace. ■Guest Room While you can fully feel the dignified history unique to this registered tangible cultural property residence, the guest room has been modernly renovated, creating a stylish space with great taste. It was more than spacious enough for one group, and we were able to unwind comfortably. In the inner room, there was even a record player, and we enjoyed luxurious music while sitting in reclining chairs. I want one... ■Bath/Sauna The bath/sauna converted from a traditional storehouse was also very clean, and we were able to enjoy self löyly as well. The cold plunge was so cold it felt like it might be single-digit temperature, yet the water itself was incredibly soft—like being gently wrapped up! Relaxing on the sauna chairs in the courtyard with its beautiful pine tree while looking up at a clear sky left both my mind and body perfectly reset. Sauna ponchos and sauna hats are provided, so you can enjoy it hands-free. The shampoo/conditioner were from THREE—another touch that showed great taste. The indoor bath was spotless too! ■Meals Dinner was a Japanese kaiseki course featuring plenty of local ingredients—generous portions and absolutely delicious! For the main sukiyaki with wagyu beef and horse meat, three different eggs were prepared (regular, smoked, and served with yogurt), so we could enjoy different flavors without getting bored. Instead of chilled pasta, there was also an innovative chilled hoto noodles dish with salmon—surprisingly delicious. The recommended red wine paired perfectly with the sukiyaki—and honestly tasted even better than what we had at a winery we stopped by before arriving at this Accommodation! Breakfast was simple yet filling—a Japanese-style breakfast. The local pickles were especially tasty. ■Staff The service was full of hospitality—so kind that it genuinely warmed my heart. It started raining lightly when we arrived, but they came out to greet us with an umbrella right away—it won us over from the start! Meal service and explanations were also very attentive, making our stay truly comfortable. There are many vineyards nearby, so I would love to visit again during grape season in autumn. Thank you very much!
