    An Exceptional Accommodation

We stayed here to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. This Accommodation offers a members-only atmosphere in both its design and hospitality, so comparing it with others isn’t really appropriate—it’s in a class of its own. Rather than an Accommodation that tries to Earn Points in shared spaces like the lobby or large public baths, it’s designed to stand out through the exceptional quality of its guest building. The glass-walled sauna was wonderful, and since there were no insects, we could open the windows fully and enjoy the view from the bed. The view from the reclining chairs on the terrace was also superb. Even small items such as the glasses provided in the Room showed great attention to detail and a sense of luxury. The vanity top looked like Yakusugi cedar with striking tiger-grain figuring. Dinner was an excellent kaiseki course meal. If I had to mention one thing, I felt there could have been a bit more Espacio-style presentation or flair. With limited access and having to go down from the parking area to stay in what feels like a secluded retreat, it was quite a rare experience—something I hadn’t felt since Havasupai.

An outstanding Accommodation with exceptional hospitality—one you’ll want to return to and enjoy a Multiple Night Stay

We usually travel to the Hakone area a few times a year as a couple, but this time we stayed one night at “Rinpo Kiryū” for our first family trip, including several celebrations. We have had the chance to visit many Accommodations, but we have never encountered one as outstanding as this—everything from start to finish was truly moving. We arrived about an hour before check-in, yet we were warmly welcomed without hesitation. From a wonderful commemorative photo for our celebration to a heartfelt message card with the photo attached, we were touched by the surprise hospitality and thoughtful care. We are sincerely grateful to have made so many unforgettable memories for our family trip. Thank you very much. Above all, what deserves special mention is the exceptional hospitality of the staff. From greeting us on arrival to seeing us off at the end, every moment was impeccable, allowing us to relax and enjoy unhurried time. Our assigned staff member was genuinely kind and always smiling; we enjoyed our conversations and were deeply impressed by their attentive care down to the smallest details—our whole family was moved. The guidance through the property—like a paradise filled with an extraordinary atmosphere—was also thorough, and everyone we met greeted us with smiles that put us at ease. Our Room was very spacious, beautifully maintained, and spotless. The bed was ideal for us—not too soft and not sinking in—so it was extremely comfortable. (My wife is quite particular about beds and rarely says this at other Accommodations, so I was surprised when she said she wanted to stay another night and didn’t want to go home yet.) During our stay, the Room included its own private open-air bath with free-flowing Onsen sourced directly from 100% natural spring water (no added water or heating)—a superb and rare Dōgashima Onsen often described as “legendary.” We could indulge in Onsen whenever we liked. In addition, there was an indoor hinoki Onsen bath, a private sauna, and even a pool, so our family could enjoy everything together. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious; each dish was beautifully presented with great care, filled with creative ideas and thoughtful touches from the chef. There were also many staff members on hand—the service felt perfect. Based on our past experiences, it’s rare to find an Accommodation where service is this attentive in every respect. More than anything else, being able to stay at “Rinpo Kiryū” became a wonderful experience for our family. Thank you again very much. We would love to visit again.

    The Luxury of Doing Nothing

A truly first-class Accommodation delights the heart. Under the Hotel brand, every member of the team serves with pride, and each conversation and every smile feels genuinely welcoming. This mystical place at the bottom of the valley—reached by cable car—where dragon and phoenix resonate together, is filled with an uncanny energy, and the flow of qi feels pleasant both day and night. I was also deeply moved to find a handwritten message card from the General Manager placed alongside fresh flowers. In these times, when AI and digital transformation are increasingly putting people under the control of machines in pursuit of convenience, I felt human warmth once again—and shed tears of joy at how people are healed by other people. I was also lucky enough to enjoy the spa upon arrival when it happened to be available, and I can’t wait to return next time.

We were truly impressed by the hospitality, which exceeded our expectations.

This stay was excellent again—thank you very much. We had requested a baby crib for our infant, and we truly appreciate that you also provided many other amenities. Thank you as well for celebrating our daughter’s birthday; it became a wonderful memory.

Perfect for an overnight stay from central Tokyo!

This was my second stay (the previous one was booked through a site other than IKYU). I’m not particularly into Resort Hotels, so this is only my impression, but I feel that even guests accustomed to oceanfront standalone villas in places like Bora Bora may find this Accommodation—featuring a private riverside and a private waterfall view—refreshingly unique. Compared with my previous Room (“Daichi”), this time’s Room (“Kizuna”) is significantly smaller in both the guestroom and terrace area. However, judging from the layout, it seems possible that when it was built, “Kizuna” was intended as a fully standalone villa-style Room, while “Daichi” may have been designed as two units (Daichi A and Daichi B) to be sold separately to different guests. With that in mind, I honestly felt that for two people, Kizuna is actually the more complete option. Daichi feels better suited to groups of four—family or friends—since it appears to be two larger junior-suite-style spaces connected and sold as one (this isn’t criticism of Daichi; I simply mean Kizuna is more than sufficient for two). It may have been developed as an Accommodation for longer stays, but because services such as the Shuttle Service are so well arranged, I felt its value truly shines for an easy one-night getaway from central Tokyo. It also seems ideal for international travelers staying in Tokyo who want to enjoy Mt. Fuji and Onsen without overexerting themselves on a short trip. Perhaps the Onsen here is especially powerful: both times I experienced something like a healing reaction the next day. After bathing, it may be wise to borrow an ice pack from the Accommodation and take proper precautions against overheating. The in-room minibar (a full bar) is very well stocked (including a full bottle of champagne). If you don’t drink alcohol, letting the Accommodation know in advance allows them to replace full-size alcoholic beverages with full-size non-alcoholic drinks. If I had to nitpick (and this may just be personal preference), the bottled bath amenities in the indoor bath are BVLGARI—the familiar choice found at many hotels worldwide. Of course many people love it. Still, with the riverside right outside and magnificent mountains all around, BVLGARI’s urban scent—which can evoke other hotel bathrooms—feels slightly at odds with the setting and seems to diminish what makes this place feel truly one of a kind. I would appreciate having an additional option with more natural fragrances so that this distinctive bathing experience can feel even more special.

A long-awaited stay at a residence nestled in Hakone

Over the past 15 years, I’ve stayed at more than 150 luxury Ryokan in Japan, and my stay at “Rinpo Kiryū” was the best ever! We stayed for one night to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and everything was truly exceptional. The price is honestly quite high, but it’s absolutely worth it. Thank you for the celebratory dessert plate, the gift, and the thoughtful message card with a photo. To all the staff, thank you very much. We definitely want to stay again.

It was a very charming Accommodation.

I stayed here after it was recommended by the staff at Espacio Nagoya Castle, which recently opened in Nagoya. We exchanged messages a few times in advance, and they kindly picked me up at Odawara Station, which was a huge help. From getting out of the Hotel car to riding in a palanquin to the accommodation building, everything felt exciting. The grounds, the view from the Room, and the Onsen were all wonderful. However, please be careful with this Room’s open-air bath: there are rugged rocks near the front edge. One of my companions has poor eyesight and took off their glasses because it was an Onsen; they ended up cutting their foot. The wound didn’t heal for about a week, and it hurt even to wear shoes for driving, which was difficult. Also, while the handle of the net used to scoop debris is short, only an underwater support tool is attached—so if you’re not careful with that as well, it can be dangerous. I was able to soak in the Onsen many times and truly relax. There are many staff members for the number of Rooms, so service is very attentive. It’s a Hotel where you can really feel Ryokan-style hospitality rather than typical Hotel service. After a courteous send-off at departure, I took the train just one stop from Miyanoshita Station on my way back. Thanks to that suggestion, I was able to see hydrangeas and a rare switchback route. I’m very grateful for such a wonderful recommendation. Both on arrival and departure, the driver shared lots of stories that made me fall in love with Espacio and Hakone even more. Thank you very much for all your help during my stay.

The Accommodation You’ve Been Curious About

The Room was spotless, the dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the rare Dogashima Onsen was exceptional—everything made for a truly wonderful and happy stay. Above all, as an older couple, we really appreciated the barrier-free design: the high-quality textured flooring and the smooth flow from the toilet to the open-air bath made it very comfortable. What matters most to us when staying is being able to sleep well—pillows and beds that support restful sleep, and quiet heating/cooling—and at Espacio, everything was excellent. We slept soundly until morning. Thank you to our staff member in charge and everyone who took such good care of us. We would love to return again in a different season.

I was very satisfied again this time.

With the Shuttle Service to Odawara Station, I could truly relax both physically and mentally, focus on my stay, and enjoy it wholeheartedly. First, taking the cable car down toward the riverside gradually builds anticipation. I stayed in a different Room than last time and was fully satisfied. I enjoyed everything—the indoor bath, the open-air Onsen bath, the pool, and the sauna—many times over. The butler and staff kindly assisted with both dinner and breakfast served in the Room, and the food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to staying again next time.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This was our third stay, and each time you have kindly done your best to accommodate our requests, allowing us to spend a truly comfortable and relaxing time. We sincerely appreciate your consistently attentive service. Although it differed from what we originally reserved for dinner, we really wanted the shabu-shabu course. Thank you for kindly fulfilling our request—it was delicious, and we were very happy. Unfortunately, it snowed heavily this time, making it difficult to travel by car. When we told you it would be hard for us to drive there, you immediately offered with a smile to pick us up at Odawara Station, which we greatly appreciated. Also, when we mentioned that our daughter couldn’t eat a fresh cream cake for her birthday, you prepared a wonderful fruit melon cake instead—she was delighted, and we are very grateful. Even at checkout the next day the snow still hadn’t stopped. You informed us that many areas in Hakone were at a standstill and kindly suggested that we stay until things settled down and take our time. Thank you for your thoughtful flexibility right through to the end. We hope to visit again as a family next time as well. This Accommodation has left the strongest impression on us out of all the places we have stayed so far. We look forward to your continued hospitality. Thank you very much.

    The Room was very lo...

The Room was very lovely and clean, and the staff service was excellent. Although the guest Room includes a high-quality private Onsen bath, this Hotel has no Facilities at all such as a restaurant, bar, or library. As a result, guests will generally spend their time in their Rooms. There was a lingering food smell in the Room; it would have been much better if there had been a separate place to eat. However, the quality of the Room and the staff service are at a very high level.

A return visit. Consistently warm hospitality that never disappoints.

This was my second stay at Espacio Hakone. Just like last time, the attentive service and calm atmosphere made for an exceptionally satisfying experience. The staff were courteous and professional, and there’s a reassuring consistency that makes me glad I returned. If you’re looking to spend a quiet, high-quality time in Hakone, I highly recommend this Ryokan. Thank you again for another wonderful stay. Reviewer FACT: Certified sommelier. Espacio: Not Just in Nagoya

A few years ago, Espacio first opened as a “hotel-within-a-hotel” concept at Nagoya Kanko Hotel. Then came the newly renovated hotel in the Meijo area (formerly Nagoya Castle), the second of its kind in Aichi. It had been a hot topic locally for its Japanesque, gorgeous style—and to my surprise, there’s one in Hakone as well. The rack rate felt far beyond reach, but IKYU offered an unexpectedly reasonable price for a Hakone Onsen Ryokan with two meals served in the Room, so I made a Reservation without hesitation. The pick-up car at Odawara Station came with oshibori and mineral water, and the sheer luxury of having separate standalone Rooms reached by mini monorail made me feel as elegant as when I stayed at an Aman resort in Asia. It was mostly a stay-in retreat so I hardly used the key card, but it was a fun touch that you can choose your own design and take it home. You can also select chopsticks from several types of wood—another lovely souvenir. For in-room dining, they finished the final touches inside the villa so everything was temperature-controlled and delicious. I fully enjoyed both the bath in the Room and the open-air bath. On departure day they even drove us to an Italian restaurant near Odawara Station where we had lunch reservations, which was very helpful. Traffic on the way to and from the station seems to vary by season and day of week, so it’s best to confirm timing in advance. Two minor inconveniences: I felt it would be more practical if yukata could be chosen by size rather than pattern; and when making coffee or tea in the Room or drinking on the sofa, some of the books placed there got slightly in the way—I worried they might get stained unless moved to another spot. Overall it was a wonderful winter vacation—and it left me wanting to visit Espacio at Meijo next time as well.

    It was excellent.

This was my first stay here. After arriving, you take a cable car to the Accommodation; it is in a very quiet location surrounded by nature (although it is near the Miyanoshita intersection). The Facility was also clean and well maintained. The meals were delicious, and thanks to the staff member in charge (there is one main person assigned), I had a very satisfying stay.

The ultimate in fine dining and tranquility, nestled in the quiet of Hakone.

With a reassuring recommendation from a manager at Espacio Nagoya, I visited “Espacio Hakone Geihinkan Rinho Kiryū.” In short, even in the highly competitive Hakone area, this is unquestionably among the very best. Most noteworthy is the exceptional quality of the cuisine. From selecting ingredients to precise cooking and impeccable timing in service, there is no compromise. The meticulously crafted experience that delights all five senses is pure bliss. Needless to say, the facilities are outstanding, and the refined yet warmly attentive service made me certain that the pride and passion of the Espacio Group are fully alive here in Hakone. I was able to truly feel what the “Espacio” brand strives for—ultimate hospitality—and it made for an extremely satisfying stay. This is a remarkable Accommodation I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking genuine tranquility and exquisite dining. Reviewer FACT: Certified sommelier. Total Michelin stars across restaurants visited domestically and internationally: 650+ stars. Elite member of all three major airline alliances.

We apologize for the critical review.

I visited for the 10th anniversary after watching several YouTube videos. The room and amenities were excellent. From what I saw on YouTube, it seemed like there was no replenishment of towels. (I believe bath towels were not restocked, but I don't remember much due to being a bit tipsy.) The hospitality and service varied greatly depending on the staff member. I enjoy chatting with staff, but since this is separate from service quality, my evaluation is critical. As a wine enthusiast, I think more attention should be paid to avoid potential complaints in the future. Regarding dinner, while the taste was good, it did not feel worth the price and seemed more suited for those with smaller appetites. Room service also felt overpriced and appeared to cater to foreign guests. For breakfast, although adjustments were made at night for my partner's preferences (no raw food or wasabi), items like salted squid guts, raw whitebait, salmon roe, and wasabi pickles were served unexpectedly. This raised questions about whether the head chef supervised or if there was proper communication among staff. I chose Western-style breakfast; while the bread was delicious yet simple, yogurt—listed prominently on the menu—was served last. Both Japanese and Western menus had dishes served out of order. Overall evaluation: While I chose this Ryokan hoping to make my partner happy for our 10th anniversary celebration here, it ended up being a disappointing experience for me personally. My partner enjoyed playing in the pool with multiple swimsuits brought along; so perhaps that made up for it somewhat. Personally speaking though—with this price point—I would likely not choose this place again. I posted this review hoping for future improvements as it's Hakone's only Dogashima Onsen Ryokan. Wishing you all success moving forward! Thank you very much!

    The best accommodation ever.

The meals, facilities, scenery, and service were all exceptional. Among the many so-called luxury accommodations, this one stands out with an unparalleled level of satisfaction. - Meals Both the quantity and quality of the meals were impeccable. The duck shinjo soup served at dinner was particularly outstanding; from enjoying the aroma when opening the lid to savoring the broth and ingredients, and experiencing a flavor change when breaking open the dumpling to release duck stock—it was a complex and moving culinary experience. Despite being served in-room, it was impressive how much attention was paid to maintaining optimal food temperatures. While dishes may vary depending on timing, I am confident that they will always provide something extraordinary no matter when you visit. - Facilities Traveling by monorail within the accommodation was innovative. The gardens beyond it and each room's entrance design were beautiful as well. Each room has a unique concept for its interior design, making me eager to stay in another room next time. Although I am not an expert on onsens, I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience with Dogashima Onsen due to its gentle texture on my skin. The indoor bath had a wonderful hinoki wood fragrance while both indoor and outdoor baths left me completely satisfied. Additionally—though this might be considered niche—the closet hangers were excellent quality along with having brushes available too! There were even shoe keepers at entrances which delighted someone like myself who loves clothes & shoes. - Scenery Located along a riverbank provided stunning views from both onsens as well as breathtaking stargazing opportunities while soaking in them during nighttime hours! Likely during autumn season there would also be magnificent foliage; hence visiting again during fall seems very appealing. - Service It happened to rain upon our arrival yet numerous staff members ensured we stayed dry from disembarking until reaching our room—a warm welcome indeed! Furthermore having been assigned an exclusive butler whose polite demeanor combined w/ graceful manners deeply impressed us throughout our stay. Overall this accommodation delivered immense satisfaction especially considering one member among us being pregnant where extra care regarding meal preferences etc., made everything feel thoughtful & accommodating. While not inexpensive by any means—it offered countless experiences worth far more than its price tag making it truly remarkable value-for-money destination! Although overseas commitments may delay revisiting soon—I’ll forever cherish memories here eagerly awaiting future opportunities returning someday without hesitation!

    A genuine Stays only

I stayed for the second time today. I liked it so much that I made a reservation for next month as well! This time, it was a stay to celebrate my husband's birthday, and thanks to the delicious cake prepared for us, we had the most memorable celebration. Thanks to the high hospitality of the staff who attended to us, we enjoyed another wonderful stay. Everything from the facilities, amenities, meals, and onsen was top-notch. It is a luxurious property filled with the owner's dedication, who truly knows the real thing. According to my husband, who is an onsen enthusiast, the indoor bath, which allows you to enjoy the onsen itself directly, apart from the open-air bath, is the most delightful feature for enthusiasts. As a top-class hot spring cure, I would like to continue to visit frequently.

    Like a luxury nursing home

The service is excellent, and the dinner is very delicious. In other words, the soft aspects are wonderful. However, the hard aspects are too overwhelming. Given the price, I expected the interior to be very elaborate, but it feels like just a luxurious nursing home, completely resembling a 40,000 to 50,000 yen Stays in Hakone. The menu, which might be considered vulgar by some due to the excessive use of high-end ingredients, has very good seasoning. The marble table feels like something from the bubble era, ruining the presentation and dishes of the otherwise excellent cuisine. Surely, the Kyoto chef who supervised it must have thought the same. Also, the breakfast kamaboko chosen by the owner is inexplicable. The amenities are full of an old man's vibe. Overall, it was a Stays like a flashy old man from Nagoya.

Overall, it's wonderful, but I would like you to do what is stated.

Overall, it was a very clean property, and the service was reasonably good. However, regarding the open-air bath in the guest room, there is no roof over the bath, so it cannot be used when it rains. Also, there was an option to choose chopsticks during dinner to take home as a souvenir, but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't receive them at checkout. I often visit properties around 300,000 yen, and I think there is still plenty of room for improvement. I look forward to future developments. Thank you.

A property with extreme attention to detail.

First of all, the special feeling begins with descending to the valley floor by ropeway. It was my first time staying at a property that paid so much attention to furniture and interior design. The meals are served with the same menu as a popular Kyoto kaiseki restaurant, so I thought it would be nice to have an original specialty that can only be eaten here. The amenities, room structure, quality of the hot water, luxury, beauty of the furniture, spaciousness of the terrace, spa, everything was perfectly good. Although it is not all-inclusive, all the drinks in the room are free. There is such a wide variety that it is impossible to drink them all. Whether it's the luxury of the welcome sweets and drinks or the muscat grapes quietly left after meals, the service is amazing down to the smallest details. Having meals in the room is also good. The pool is smaller than expected, but the location along such a mountain stream is wonderful, so the size is not an issue. I want to visit again. The price is high, but the satisfaction is even higher.
