  I stayed in the Ai R...

  I stayed in the Ai Room. This Accommodation is run by Torinago and is now in its sixth year. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The renovated traditional house features thoughtful design throughout, using materials from Tamba-Fukuchiyama for both the interior and exterior, and it felt charming as well as very clean. The courtyard seen from the Room was also wonderful—the moss was a vivid green at just the right season. Staff are not on-site at all times, but they provided clear guidance in advance, so I had no trouble. For dinner, I ate at Torinago Kyubei just a short walk away. Not only the famous duck hot pot, but every other dish was excellent. It was quiet at night and I slept well. Breakfast focused on local ingredients. I was told it is intentionally kept modest in consideration of lunch plans in town. I felt it was more than enough for breakfast. Through the staff, I could really feel how much the management cares about the local area. It’s an Accommodation that makes me look forward to seeing it—and the town—become even better five or ten years from now.

  This beautifully ren...

  This beautifully renovated traditional house, once a pawnshop, offers Rooms with distinct character. Rather than aiming for full occupancy, they intentionally operate only up to 2 of the 4 Rooms at a time, which makes for a truly peaceful stay. By chance there were no other guests during our visit, so it felt like having the place to ourselves and we were able to relax in quiet comfort. They also kindly helped us with an unusual request to receive registered mail, which was greatly appreciated. Next time, I’d love to stay in a different Room.
