    An Accommodation you’ll want to stay at again!

    This is our second stay. We felt so comfortable last time, the meals were delicious, and we slept well, so my husband and I came back. The seasonal dishes are amazing too! Once again, we were able to relax and unwind. We also really enjoyed the simmered potatoes made by your grandfather—they were delicious. We’d love to visit again during the colder season!

    An Accommodation with Exceptional Attention to Detail

    We chose this Onsen Accommodation because it had the highest Review rating among Onsen Accommodations within a three-hour drive from our home in Yokohama. When I parked my car in the wooded parking area, the owner appeared out of nowhere and said, “You shouldn’t come in such a nice car—you might scratch it.” His playful comment made us laugh. As with any place, visiting an Accommodation for the first time can be nerve-racking, so we truly appreciated how you put my husband and me at ease the moment we arrived. After stepping inside, we were further comforted by the warm welcome from the proprietress—it was genuinely moving. The flowers placed throughout, the beautifully maintained garden, and even the sound of birdsong were all wonderful. Above all, the food was outstanding. Both dinner and breakfast featured many ingredients harvested at home—everything was fresh, and we could really enjoy the natural flavors. The dashi was also thoughtfully tailored to each dish, and we could feel how much care went into every detail. The bath was spacious as well, with excellent water. This is an Accommodation I sincerely want to return to. Thank you very much to everyone on staff.

    No other accommodation is better than this.

    We stayed here to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. I was looking for a Ryokan that felt truly special—something you can’t experience on an ordinary trip—and the moment I saw this wonderful place, surrounded by beautifully maintained greenery and limited to only three parties per day, I fell in love. After reading the details, I learned that each Room comes with its own private dining area, Onsen, and exclusive garden. Depending on what you prioritize, you can choose a Room with features not found in the others. We stayed in “Korin.” What was especially great about Korin was having a dedicated dining table, which meant we could relax in the Room right up until mealtime. Korin has its own dining table; it seems another Room has a built-in semi-open-air bath, and another includes a living room. Above all else, the kaiseki cuisine here is exceptionally delicious. The dishes—made generously with morning-harvested vegetables grown by Mr. Hiyama, mushrooms from Tochigi Prefecture, meat, and river fish—were better than any course meal I’ve had; Mr. Hiyama’s kaiseki is simply the best. Usually at a Ryokan I get too full to finish everything, but it was so good that we ate every last bite of both dinner and breakfast! (I even finished an entire pot of rice cooked in a clay pot at breakfast.) I looked forward to each dish coming out from the menu list every time, and being served freshly prepared food made me very happy. The Onsen is prepared for each Room only for your use (no other guests), so it was very clean—and more than spacious enough for two people. We were completely satisfied. Needless to say, the interior of the Room was beautiful. Cleaning was meticulous; there wasn’t even a speck of dust anywhere. It was so spotless that even as guests we felt we should be careful to keep it pristine. Between the lovely design and fresh air inside—and especially the Simmons bed—the comfort level was outstanding. We wanted to stay forever. The hospitality from everyone at the Ryokan also felt wonderful. The proprietress who took care of us from check-in through check-out was delightful to talk with and explained each dish carefully—just listening made it clear how delicious everything would be. They also accommodated dislikes and dietary preferences flexibly, which helped us greatly. This Ryokan was so exceptional that I honestly wonder if we’ll ever find one better in the future. Rather than simply wanting to stay again someday, it felt like “a place we want to come home to.”

    It was a wonderful Accommodation where we could feel heartfelt hospitality in every detail!

    Since May is the month of our wedding anniversary, we make it a point to travel somewhere every year. This year our schedules didn’t line up, so we ended up traveling at the end of May. Nikko and Kinugawa are relatively close, so we’d never really thought to stay overnight there before—but this year we found a truly wonderful Accommodation. At check-in, the proprietress warmly showed us around. She was very friendly, yet thoroughly professional. The Room was clearly cleaned and well maintained down to every detail, and felt extremely fresh and spotless. As for the meals, they were exactly as the Reviews said—top level. From homegrown vegetables to each carefully prepared dish, both dinner and breakfast were filled with wholesome ingredients seasoned to perfection. That’s honestly how it felt: we enjoyed plenty of food that seemed genuinely good for the body. Truly outstanding! The portions were just right for our age as well, and we were completely satisfied. Of course, the in-room Onsen was also incredibly relaxing—we soaked many times and felt refreshed both physically and mentally. We couldn’t believe such a lovely Accommodation was so close by. This is an Accommodation we will definitely return to—Done. It seems like it may be family-run; while I imagine it must be hard work without much time off, it’s also an Accommodation I sincerely hope will continue for many years to come.     We’ll be back!

    After considering various Accommodations, I stayed at Hiyama for the first time. From the warm welcome onward, the staff were very attentive. Before dinner, I relaxed in the private bath and even took a nap—this is an Accommodation where you can truly unwind. Dinner was outstanding, with everything absolutely delicious. The soba to finish was also excellent. If I had one request, I’d love to see a wider selection of shochu, and it would be great if checkout could be extended by another 30 minutes or an hour. The bed was very comfortable, and for the first time in a while I slept soundly through the night. Breakfast was delicious too—I ended up eating more than I should have. The spring sunshine made the fresh greenery sparkle, and the beautiful garden was truly wonderful as well. The send-off was just as thoughtful; everyone was so cheerful that we left feeling great. I’ll be back again in a different season.

    Wonderful Ryokan

    I travel each month in search of relaxation at various Ryokan, but it’s rare to find one with such warm hospitality, gentle and delicious meals, and Rooms that feel so calm and reassuring. I was also grateful for the parking area where EV charging is available. The approach through the garden, the impressive pine tree at the entrance, and the beautifully maintained interior—spotlessly cleaned down to every detail. The spacious, luxurious design of the Room and the private Onsen. The comforting, delicious cuisine that reflects the chef’s personality. Even the choice of tableware was wonderful—we enjoyed it with our eyes as well. Above all, we were touched by the charming proprietress’s lovely conversation and heartfelt hospitality. We even found ourselves discussing during dinner when we should come back next time. It’s hard to find an experience like this at this price. This is an Accommodation I truly recommend everyone experience at least once. Thank you very much.

    A Welcoming Accommodation with Warm Hospitality

    From the station pick-up, the host warmly welcomed us and even showed us around the nearby area. The Accommodation was spotless, and we could use the private bath anytime. We were able to relax without hardly seeing other guests. The garden view from the Room and the bonsai at the entrance—this was an Accommodation with thoughtful touches in every detail. Above all, the meals made generous use of local ingredients. Dishes made with daikon harvested from their fields, ingredients sourced from nearby farmers, and delicious dashi were all carefully prepared one by one, and we could enjoy them with our eyes as well, served in charming tableware. Together with local sake that can only be enjoyed here, we had an outstanding meal. The soba served at the end had a texture, flavor, and aroma unlike anything I’ve ever had—an unforgettable experience. It was a wonderful Accommodation, and I’d love to return someday for a special anniversary.

    A Belated Birthday Party

    We stayed on January 30 for a birthday celebration one day late. We stayed in the Kikusui Room, which was very clean, spacious, and relaxing. The bath required a short walk down the hallway, but it was large and the water was wonderful. If I had to be picky, it would have been nice to be able to adjust the water temperature, and I felt the changing area could be a bit larger. The food was exquisite—truly top-class. Everything looked beautiful, we enjoyed our drinks even more, and we thoroughly savored the soba to finish. Breakfast was also delicious. The inn is family-run by the owner, his wife (the proprietress), and their parents, and we really enjoyed chatting with them as well. We’re thinking of recommending it to friends.

    We stayed to celebrate my companion’s birthday. From the thoughtful attention to detail and warm hospitality to the delicious meals, everything made for a truly comfortable experience.     A state of ultimate bliss

    A cozy accommodation with 3 Rooms. Check-in was smooth upon arrival, accompanied by tea and sweets. The dried persimmon treat was exceptional, raising our expectations even further. Run by a family, the warm hospitality was evident throughout our stay. The private open-air bath in the Room was perfect, allowing time to pass slowly and peacefully. Dinner started at 6:00 PM in a private dining room, with stunning views of autumn leaves nearing their final stage of beauty. The dishes were masterpieces crafted by the chef, highlighting the full potential of fresh vegetables. We now understand why this place receives such high praise from others. We had pre-requested an extra serving of soba noodles for the finale, which did not disappoint. Even the tableware showcased excellent taste and added to our enjoyment. The water quality in this area is outstanding; we were amazed at how delicious it tasted and understood why it enhanced every dish served here so perfectly. On departure, we were kindly driven back to the station—a place we would love to visit again!

    It was the best accommodation.

    Limited to 3 groups per day, we arrived around 16:30, being the latest check-in. From the warm welcome at the parking lot to carrying our luggage to the room, we were offered a unique soba dish that we had never tried before and were encouraged to enjoy it that evening. Dinner was a luxurious course meal, but as I had been drinking alcohol, I could only eat about half of it and apologize for any inconvenience caused. The accommodation includes a private bath and a dedicated dining room with complimentary water and ice service for bringing your own alcohol. The room also has a water dispenser with delicious water. This was truly the best accommodation I've ever stayed at, making it an unforgettable trip. Highly recommended as a reward for yourself!

    Kappo Ryokan Hiyama?

    This is my fourth stay at this accommodation, and I am always impressed by the excellent cuisine and hospitality. Despite having only three rooms, the rooms and garden are beautifully maintained, which is remarkable considering it’s managed primarily by the family. However, the true highlight of this ryokan is its food and sake. This year, we visited several high-end accommodations with more than double the price, but none surpassed the cuisine here. Both my wife and I always enjoy sake during meals, and their menu features carefully selected sake from Tochigi breweries, showcasing their dedication to quality. While there isn’t an open-air bath with scenic views or a sense of spaciousness, this ryokan has charm that more than makes up for it. My wife and I are elderly now but will continue visiting as long as we can (laughs). Thank you very much for your hospitality once again. We look forward to visiting again in June next year!

Both dinner and breakfast were extraordinary meals that left a deep impression. The dishes maximized the natural flavors of the ingredients, with delicate seasoning that was perfectly balanced. Each plate showcased meticulous care and thoughtfulness, bringing joy and delight with every bite. It’s rare to experience such healing through food. Truly a “quiet sensation” for all five senses.     Thank you very much for your hospitality. Despite our last-minute reservation, we were warmly welcomed, and your thoughtfulness was truly appreciated. As a small accommodation with only three rooms for adults, we never crossed paths with other guests, making it a perfectly relaxing stay for us. The onsen was spacious and so soothing that we wanted to bathe multiple times. If there’s one thing to note, the scent of the shampoo felt slightly strong compared to the subtle wooden aroma throughout the property. The meals were exquisite in every way, with just the right portions to leave us completely satisfied. The recommended sake paired wonderfully with the dishes—an exceptional combination! Everything about this accommodation—the room, cuisine, onsen, garden, and your family—was perfectly balanced and delightful. We would love to visit again!

    I am satisfied with the property that shines with the wife's sense.

    The property, which incorporates Tochigi's specialties throughout, is filled with the wife's sense of style. In particular, the Oya stone tiles used in the room and bathroom sink are very impressive. I was impressed to hear that the moss in the garden is also handmade and nurtured. We enjoyed Kinugawa and Tochigi through the chef's elaborate dishes, including burdock of a thickness we had never seen before. When I mentioned that I was thinking of stopping by Mashiko on the way back, I was recommended to visit Toko, where I bought a Mashiko-yaki teacup & saucer by Fumiya Mukoyama and cutlery from Tsubame-Sanjo. The arcade in Mashiko has so many wonderful shops that if I hadn't asked for recommendations, I might have missed out on these purchases. It was thanks to the wife that I was able to acquire them.     Stayed for one night...

    Stayed for one night from December 31st to New Year's Day. The facility and the Room were very clean and nice. The meals were made with care, and they were truly delicious! The soba noodles were especially excellent! The hospitality of the staff was very pleasant. The bath was private, so it was nice to be able to enter freely at any time. Just one thing, the tatami was also floor-heated and comfortable, so it would have been nice to watch TV while lounging around. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Stays.

    The hospitality of everyone was wonderful. I could feel the attention to detail and care in the warm service, the guest rooms, the bath, and the garden, allowing me to spend a heartwarming and pleasant time. The meals, including carefully selected sake and kaiseki cuisine prepared with local ingredients, as well as the closing soba and desserts, were all so wonderful that I ended up overeating.     The fact that there ...

    The fact that there are only three rooms allowed us to enjoy our stay without encountering other guests, and since we are not fond of children's noises, the adults-only policy was a deciding factor for us. The service was very homey and comforting, with exceptional attentiveness. Each dish was visually enjoyable and the seasoning was refined, leaving us satisfied. The room was clean and comfortable, and although I didn't have a strong image of Nikko as a hot spring destination, I was able to stay warm without feeling chilled after bathing, and my skin became smooth. This inn satisfied us in every aspect: service, room, cuisine, and hot springs. It is a place we would definitely like to stay at again.

    This is the ultimate adult kaiseki ryokan!

    This year, my wife and I have been staying at hotels and inns in Tokyo every weekend, trying to find a place we can make our regular. However, we struggled to find one that suited us until we finally came across the perfect inn, "Onyado Hiyama." Its excellence is reflected in the architecture, room arrangements, and cuisine. It doesn't have the lavish facilities or decorations of a luxury inn or hotel, but it is a true adult retreat where you can leisurely enjoy the hot springs in tranquility and savor exquisite kaiseki cuisine without a single dish being neglected. As drinkers who always enjoy alcohol with our meals, we were also impressed by the selection focused on local sake. There was no other inn where we received such friendly and warm hospitality, with a commitment to local ingredients and sake. Due to the nature of the inn, it may not be suitable for families or groups, but that is precisely what gives it value as a hidden retreat for adults. We stayed in September this time, but we plan to visit each season to enjoy the wonderful kaiseki cuisine. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.
