    A Hotel nestled at the foot of Mount Daisen

    I stayed here with three friends for a golf trip. After a bath, we had beers in the lounge and felt refreshed. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style with a wide variety of options, and we were very satisfied. It was late summer, and there were many families as well—everyone looked like they were having a great time.

    I’m a returning guest.

    This time, we stayed in a Room with a view of the Sea of Japan. We were able to relax with the top-floor lounge services, all-you-can-drink options, a wide variety of buffet dishes, the Onsen, and a spacious Room. We also had a great view of Mt. Daisen, enjoyed good weather, and felt refreshed.

    We enjoyed our stay.

    I think it was great value for the price. Although it’s a buffet, it was tastier than the typical buffets you often find. The tuna and squid were fresh, and I enjoyed making my own rice bowl. The curry was also delicious—I topped it with Daisen chicken and really enjoyed it. The Facility feels a bit old. Since it’s a Mercure, I thought having at least some wine in the lounge would have been nice. Overall, I was satisfied.

    The lounge drinks we...

    The lounge drinks were not replenished, so we could not use them. Even late at night, children were running around in the lounge, and we did not feel like using it. We have stayed at many all-inclusive properties, but this is the first time we have experienced one that felt so little like an all-inclusive. We do not plan to stay here again.

    Obon Holiday

    The lounge view was amazing! The draft beer was delicious, but the sparkling wine was in a keg rather than a bottle, and it was lukewarm with weak carbonation—very disappointing. That was a first for me. The dinner buffet tasted great, but IKYU may not be aware that it operates on an unannounced 90-minute limit with two seatings, which made it extremely crowded and disappointing. We were told only the separate second venue had no time limit, but it is far away, there is no wagon rental, and it is also the venue with a kids’ festival area, so you can’t really relax. Drinks have the widest selection at dinner, but with a 90-minute limit it cannot truly be called a full free-flow offering—I felt this was misleading. Given this situation, I felt the Obon holiday Accommodation Fee was far too high. It might be fine if you stay when prices are lower.

    Honest impressions

    As we stayed during the summer holidays, the Hotel was very crowded. As for service, the staff all seemed to be working hard, and overall it was good. Dinner was also good. On the other hand, the Facility felt noticeably dated overall. The EV charging equipment was out of order and none of the three units could be used, and the air conditioning in our room didn’t cool very well. The scent inside the building also varied—some floors smelled pleasant and comfortable, while others did not. Also, during busy times or on lower floors it can be faster to use the emergency stairs, but I felt they would be easier to use if they were cleaned more thoroughly. The shop on the front desk floor also felt a bit lacking in both selection and presentation. Since we came all the way to Tottori/Daisen, I wanted more local character and that excitement of “I want to buy souvenirs here.” There were also areas that looked unused; given how large this Facility is, some parts had a slightly “abandoned” feel. The Onsen in the large public bath didn’t leave a particularly special impression, and honestly I didn’t feel much exclusivity from the all-inclusive plan either. It’s reasonably priced and great for families with children who want to enjoy themselves without worrying too much. On the other hand, it may not suit those looking for a quiet resort stay. Personally, even if it cost a bit more, I would like added value unique to a Hotel and a calmer atmosphere. At breakfast there is a system where you reserve your seat with numbered plates, but it wasn’t intuitive that this meant “occupied,” so someone who arrived later moved our table and we had a small dispute. I think clearer signage such as “Dining / No. XX” would help at a glance. Crowding during peak seasons is predictable, so I’d like to see measures such as opening the large public bath earlier or separating lounge venues. Even though it’s supposed to be a resort, things felt quite chaotic inside—and instead of relaxing as planned, we couldn’t relax at all (lol). Because there are good points such as staff service and meals—and because maintaining and operating such a large Facility must be difficult—I think this could become an even more attractive Hotel if crowd management measures, equipment maintenance, and added value were improved.

    We had a comfortable stay.

    I decided to visit Tottori the day before and made a Reservation at this Accommodation. This was my second stay here, and this time I truly enjoyed it. Since it was during summer vacation, I expected there might be many families with children, but most of the children were well-behaved and quiet, so we were able to relax and take it easy. The food featured many elaborate Western and Asian-style dishes rather than Japanese cuisine, and everything was unique and delicious. However, I would have been happier if there had been a few more Japanese dishes (there were only two kinds of pickles). On the day we checked in, complimentary alcohol was available both on the top floor and at dinner, which made my parents very happy. One concern was that the TV reception wasn’t very good, and a program I was looking forward to became unavailable multiple times partway through. Also, thumping noises from the guests upstairs carried quite clearly, which bothered me. Other than that, we could see beautiful Mt. Daisen from our Room and spent two wonderful days—perfect for relieving everyday fatigue. I would definitely like to stay again.

    Highly satisfying

    Mercure delivers a high level of satisfaction wherever you go. When we arrived, there was an all-you-can-drink service, which made us very happy. I wasn’t sure whether the bath was an Onsen. The food was delicious, but it was disappointing that dinner fruit was only apples and canned fruit even though it was the season for fresh fruit.

    Driving through the ...

    Driving through the forest with the feeling of getting closer and closer to Mt. Daisen, we headed to the Hotel. I couldn’t stop feeling excited even before we arrived. When I entered the Room and opened the curtains, Mt. Daisen was right in front of me—I was truly moved. The tatami area in the Japanese-Western style Room felt a bit prickly, so I thought it might be time to replace it soon, but the beds and Room were clean, the air conditioner worked well, and we stayed very comfortably. I also appreciated that there was an extra towel in the Room for washing my face, separate from the towels used for bathing. After arriving, I enjoyed beer in the top-floor lounge and whiskey at night; I also had alcohol with dinner and fully enjoyed the all-inclusive plan. Since it was summer vacation, many children were staying as well, so it felt quite different from my image of a “grown-up” lounge—but the homey atmosphere was wonderful too. Thank you very much. I rated the Facility 4 because I wished there were more elevators. Since there are no stairs, it often felt like a long wait time…

    The food is delicious.

    We stayed one night over a three-day holiday with breakfast included. The Room feels a bit dated, but it is well maintained and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is plentiful, delicious, and high quality, and the large public bath is spacious, which is great. The only downside is that there are quite a lot of Rooms, so when the Accommodation is busy it can be hard to get on the elevator. That’s probably the only negative point. It’s good value for money and a great choice for families. Going out for dinner is also an option, but nearby places get fully booked quickly. Given how good the breakfast was, I wished we had eaten dinner at the Hotel as well.

    Great value for money.

    I learned about all-inclusive on YouTube and made a Reservation here.<br> The Room I booked online was a standard Room, but at check-in I was told I could upgrade the Room by paying an additional fee.<br> I paid an extra 10,000 yen and changed to a suite.<br> The dining venue was on the 2nd floor, and we reserved a time in advance.<br> We wanted to relax, so we chose the second venue, where there was no time limit.<br> For food, we had to go to a slightly separate area to pick it up, but drinks such as alcohol were available self-serve at the second venue as well.<br> The food was average, but it was nice being able to try small portions of many different items.<br> It was disappointing that there was no imo shochu at the dining area.<br> The lounge was on the 12th floor.<br> There were only a few snacks overall, and my impression is that this Hotel mainly targets families. There were many guests with children.<br> We traveled as a couple only, so for two-person trips we may not choose this kind of Hotel again in the future.<br> Considering the price, it offers good value for money, so I think it’s a good option for anyone looking for a casual Hotel.

    Fully refreshed and satisfied

    I felt refreshed and was very satisfied. The front desk service was minimal but efficient and more than sufficient. Perhaps because I stayed on a weekday, everything—baths, meals, elevators—was smooth with no waiting time. I used the Shuttle Service bus round-trip from Yonago Station, and the driving was very courteous. My only complaint was that the lounge snacks felt a bit limited; I would have liked some nuts or rice crackers. It truly turned into a restful trip.

    We ate and drank plenty and were completely satisfied.

    After hiking Mt. Daisen, the location was close to Milk no Sato, and driving there was straightforward with no confusion. I went to the Onsen at 3:00 PM and found it very relaxing, with a well-sized bath area and a great layout. From 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, I was extremely satisfied to enjoy as much beer, champagne, sake, and café-style drinks as I liked in the lounge while taking in views of both the Mt. Daisen side and the Nakaumi/Japan Sea side. The dinner buffet afterward also offered many luxurious dishes; it was all-you-can-drink as well with an even wider drink selection, and I felt it was a more worthwhile way to spend time than going out to an izakaya. Every staff member I encountered in the hotel was cheerful and efficient. The Room was comfortable and even had a portable massager, and I could relax at my leisure with the massage chair in the workspace area and unlimited comics, the morning buffet the next day was flawless, and the coffee drip experience in the lobby was both fun and delicious. As an IKYU Diamond member, I enjoyed early check-in, late check-out, and even received a souvenir—truly attentive service throughout. Thank you very much.

    The view of Mt. Daisen from the Room was amazing.

    The view of Mt. Daisen from our 10th-floor Room was outstanding, and we were able to relax. We heard that Rooms on the opposite side of the corridor have an ocean view as well. The meals are buffet-style, with all-you-can-drink beer and more, which is great; however, since there are no staggered start times, large crowds line up about 15 minutes before opening for both dinner and breakfast, making it disappointing that we couldn’t choose our food at a relaxed pace.

    This was the worst Mercure I have ever stayed at.

    I have stayed at Mercure properties through various sites before, but this time the “Mercure Tottori Daisen Resort & Spa” that I booked via IKYU was the worst. To celebrate our 50th anniversary of friendship, we took a bit of a trip and chose this Hotel, but the dinner restaurant at “Mercure Tottori Daisen Resort & Spa” was hot—far too hot. The elevator hall on the second floor also felt a little warm. Near where the food was laid out in the restaurant? There was cool air blowing from the ceiling, so it felt “a bit warm,” at most. But around the table area in the back where we were seated, it felt like “perpetual summer.” We were sweating even while eating—so much that a handkerchief wasn’t enough. We even brought towels from our Room. Before the 90-minute time limit was up, I started feeling unwell and decided to stop eating and leave. When I asked a female staff member, a man wearing an intercom came over and admitted that although clean-looking indoor units from a certain manufacturer had been installed on the ceiling, the connection work to the outdoor units had not been completed. Whether due to recent environmental changes or global warming—or because of war-related impacts or equipment shortages—I don’t know. But couldn’t they have taken measures such as suspending guest stays? I went home disappointed by Mercure’s customer service. On top of that, at an expressway service area (PA) along the way home, there was clear signage stating that some areas could not be used due to air-conditioning issues, and they had even set up portable spot coolers. Even though we pay tolls to use those roads, I appreciated their consideration at these free rest stops with toilets and other facilities. I hope IKYU will stay in close contact with each Facility and help cover for shortcomings like this at Mercure.

    Peak times when the buffet gets crowded

    This was our second stay. We really like the baths at this Hotel. Dinner buffet starts at 5:30 PM, so we went looking forward to it, but it was already full. The table assigned to us was deep in the back, and since my husband has trouble with his legs and going back and forth would have been difficult, we asked to change the time. When we went after 7:00 PM, there were fewer people. It wasn’t exactly relaxing, but we could take our time looking at the dishes and serving ourselves. In hindsight, there was no need to rush. For breakfast as well, going after 8:00 AM worked out great because there were plenty of open seats. There was no worry about food running out, and we enjoyed a wide variety of delicious options. Thank you very much.

    We stayed here as a group of five, including my 97-year-old mother-in-law. It was wonderful to have a clear view of Mt. Daisen.

    We were satisfied with everything—the view, breakfast, and the bath.

    Breakfast offered a wide variety of options and was very delicious, and the bath was spacious and comfortable to use. The beautiful view of Mt. Daisen from the window was also memorable, allowing us to relax while feeling close to nature. If I have the chance to visit Mt. Daisen again, I would definitely like to stay here.

    The Pros and Cons of All-Inclusive Packages

    This was our first time staying at Mercure, and here are my impressions. The all-inclusive concept has become common recently, but my spouse and I do not drink alcohol. Seeing a situation where guests like us are effectively paying for the unlimited alcohol enjoyed by other guests (and there were quite a few instances of drunken rowdy behavior) left us feeling dissatisfied. I understand the Hotel’s intention to attract customers by promoting unlimited alcohol, but it undermines the sense of fairness. I doubt I am the only one who would decide not to use such Hotels in the future. That is why it felt especially disappointing—Mercure offers reasonable pricing, and both the meals and staff service are maintained at a level comparable to top-class standards.

    A Comfortable Hotel

    This time, they prepared a nice Japanese-Western style Room for us, and I was also happy that there was an air purifier. The breakfast and dinner buffets had a good selection of both Western and Japanese dishes. It wasn’t so crowded that lines formed, which was also great. The menu included fried horse mackerel, dishes made with Daisen chicken, sweet shrimp, tuna, squid sashimi, conger eel, mackerel sushi, cream stew, and Tottori wagyu sukiyaki (I would have liked more green onions with the sukiyaki). For breakfast, I wished they had served sea bream chazuke. It’s fun to be able to enjoy a little alcohol in the lounge. For the bath lockers—even if only some of them—I would like taller lockers where you can hang clothes on hangers. The open-air Onsen ceramic tub had pleasantly hot water and was excellent, and I was satisfied being able to use it by myself. After the bath in winter, amazake is served and its gentle flavor is soothing. I would be happy if something with a similarly mild taste (not vinegar-based) were offered in summer as well. It’s a Mercure Hotel I’d like to visit again.

    All the water in the vending machine was sold out. I informed the staff, but it remained sold out for two days. I wanted to take some with me for hiking.

    A Relaxing Parent-and-Child Trip

    I stayed one night with my sister and our mother. We chose this all-inclusive property so our mother, who has difficulty getting around, could relax. We were satisfied with the meals, the large public bath, and the Room. However, there were not enough amenities or towels, which was disappointing. Playing table tennis with my sister after dinner was unexpectedly exciting and fun. Thank you for taking care of us.

    Mt. Daisen After a Long Time

    It was my first stay at Mercure Daisen in nine months. I stayed while a typhoon was approaching. First, the front desk staff were not very friendly, which did not leave a good impression. The open-air bath was also unavailable in the morning due to pest control, and they were spraying chemicals in the rain during the typhoon. Mercure can be hit or miss. On the positive side, I enjoyed grinding my own coffee beans and having coffee on the first floor.

    A Relaxing, Laid-Back Trip

    I booked at the last minute the day before for a solo trip, but they kindly accommodated my stay. There weren’t many solo guests, so it felt a bit lonely, but I was able to relax in a spacious Room. I’d like to stay again. It was disappointing that I couldn’t take the manga books to my Room.

    It was comfortable.

    The former Daiwa House–affiliated Royal Hotel Daisen has been acquired by the Accor Group and is now a Mercure. As a result, the Accommodation itself is not new, but it has been renovated to ensure a comfortable stay. It is a large-scale Hotel with many group guests, so if you expect too much from the “Resort & Spa” name, you may feel slightly disappointed. However, it is an all-inclusive style property, and in principle there are no extra charges from check-in to check-out—you can simply drop your key card into the basket and leave. The Room was spacious, nicely refurbished, and the view from the Room was excellent. The buffet dining area was extremely crowded due to group guests, but the quality was high; true to Mercure standards, it was fun to find menus from around the world. The large public bath was also spacious and did not feel overly crowded even with many guests staying. The loungewear provided is a slightly thick yukata; I felt something more like samue-style wear might have been better. Overall, they have clearly streamlined wherever possible, and I found it excellent value for money.

    I’m concerned about the age of the facilities.

    The food was delicious, and the staff were very attentive. However, the age of the Facility is hard to overlook. The toilet in the Room was difficult to flush and took over a minute each time. The water pressure was also weak, which was quite stressful. Also, upon entering the Hotel, I noticed a distinctive musty smell. In the Room as well, many Hotels now provide an air purifier as standard since COVID-19, but there wasn’t one here. Because the mountains are close by and due to the season and weather, we couldn’t open the windows either, so I was bothered by how dusty the air felt in the Room. Considering that this Hotel promotes itself as a place to relax, it seems most of its efforts go into meals; I think it would be better if more were invested in improving the Rooms.

    We chose this place because the Reviews were good. The meals were great, but it was the first Hotel I’ve stayed at that didn’t provide amenities such as a razor/shaver or cleansing products. Other than that, everything was very good.

    Fresh Greenery of Mt. Daisen

    This was my third stay since it became Mercure. With Mt. Daisen’s fresh greenery right in front of me, I truly enjoyed a wonderful Hotel stay at Mercure. The weather was sunny on both days, which made the experience even more refreshing. At Mercure, I felt deeply relaxed while sipping soft drinks in the top-floor lounge and taking in the views of Yonago city, Yumigahama, and Mt. Daisen’s vibrant greenery. Both dinner and breakfast offered such a wide variety of dishes that it was hard to choose, and everything I selected was delicious. I’m looking forward to trying the dishes I couldn’t choose this time on my next visit. I soaked for a long time in the large public bath (open-air bath), and it really helped relieve my fatigue. Thank you as well to the staff in charge of dinner and breakfast for welcoming me with warm greetings. Even though it was extremely busy with both group guests and individual guests and nearly full, their quick work—refilling dishes, wiping tables, and clearing plates—was truly impressive. Thanks to them, the food tasted even better. At checkout on Tuesday 5/19, I received complimentary coffee service on the first floor. The young male staff member there provided wonderful hospitality with a warm smile. He chatted with me cheerfully throughout, so from early morning I felt very comfortable while enjoying delicious coffee. He left such a positive impression that I ended up talking to him quite a bit myself. It became a very memorable time thanks to our pleasant conversation. I would appreciate it if you could pass along my message: “Even after you return home, please take care of your health—stay well—and please come back to Japan again.” I am truly grateful to all the staff at Mercure for taking such good care of me. Next time, I would like to stay during the beautiful autumn foliage season. Thank you very much.
