    We were extremely satisfied.

    We stayed for one night just before the Obon holidays. It was even better than what we had seen in online Reviews. As it is a designated Tangible Cultural Property, the building has a wonderful sense of history, yet it has been beautifully renovated. The best of the old remains, and the open, airy atmosphere was truly relaxing. The furniture and lighting also felt modern and well chosen to suit the building. Most of the staff were non-Japanese, but their service was extremely polite. Everyone was friendly and calm, and it was clear that staff training is thorough. For dinner, since we were traveling with our college-aged son, we chose the course featuring Atsumi beef—and it was very filling!!! There were many dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. If only dinner service could have been a little longer (there were that many courses). The tableware was lovely as well. That naturally raised our expectations for breakfast—and it did not disappoint in either quality or quantity. The rolled omelet in particular was excellent, and we were able to get seconds. Both the bath and meals were at Kakujouroo, about a 3-minute walk away. Walking there in the provided sandals while enjoying the cool evening air felt great. The bath water was on the cooler side, but for summer it was perfect for me. Amenities were generally well stocked. As for bedding: the bed felt firm, but the futon bedding was just right. The pillow could be adjusted for height. We also got to meet the resident “signboard cat,” who is apparently 11 years old—resting on a chair in Kakujouroo’s courtyard. When I held out my hand, she licked it; she was adorable. We even bought some cat-themed items as souvenirs of our trip. Thanks to delicious food and warm hospitality, we enjoyed a wonderful escape from everyday life and felt refreshed both physically and mentally. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Return To

    We had a comfortable and wonderful stay. Each dish was carefully prepared, and we were very satisfied. The Room was also kept beautifully clean, allowing us to relax and unwind in a calm atmosphere. Next time, we would love to visit again in a different season.

    I had high expectations, so I’m disappointed...

    I stayed at Kakujouro over ten years ago and was very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. When I told them in advance it was for a birthday, they even prepared an extra surprise at dinner. This time, I contacted them the day before our stay to say it was a family trip for my parents’ wedding anniversary, but perhaps because it was last-minute, it didn’t seem to be shared with the staff. Compared with last time, the meals felt like a noticeable step down. Since the Accommodation rate is inexpensive, I accepted it as fair for the price. This time we chose Izutsurou instead of Kakujouro (which is mainly maisonette-style), considering my parents’ mobility. However, we were disappointed by how difficult the bathroom was to use, noise from footsteps on the second floor, and an issue with the air conditioning in the bedroom. At Kakujouro, features such as the many stairs to reach the large public bath can also be challenging for elderly guests. That said, all staff inside the building spoke Japanese well and left a very positive impression.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    I stayed in a second-floor Room at Izutsuro. The washbasin was set back inside, and the Room offered a beautiful view of the courtyard. For dinner, we went to the nearby Kakujouro, and after sunset the garden atmosphere viewed from the second-floor counter was wonderful as well. The day we arrived happened to be extremely hot, so I was happy to enjoy a cold beer after check-in. Thank you very much for your hospitality. I hope to visit again soon by train and bus.

    Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay. We were able to relax and enjoy a very peaceful time. We are truly grateful for the courteous and attentive service from each member of your staff. When we mentioned that there were many cabbage fields, we were told that corn cultivation will begin soon. We would love to visit again during the harvest season. Thank you again for everything.

    Quiet

    It was a quiet and relaxing accommodation. Although I believe it was fully booked on the day we stayed, there was hardly any interaction with others, and we were able to privately enjoy the bath as a couple and relax.

    The perfect accommodation to experience traditional charm.

    The renovated traditional Japanese house turned into an accommodation exudes charm and character! The staff were incredibly kind, making our stay a truly delightful experience. Meals were served at a perfect pace, and everything from the taste to the service and the atmosphere of the dining area was absolutely satisfying. We would love to visit again!

    The staff were mostly foreigners, but their polite language made me think that Japanese people should learn from them. It was a very relaxing accommodation.

    It has a charming and traditional atmosphere.

    The rooms on the homepage are connected, but on IKYU.com, there is a wall between the bedroom and the other room, requiring guests to go out into the hallway to move between them. There was a courtyard where rooms could see each other. While blinds were installed in neighboring rooms, our room did not have any, so we had to keep the shoji screens closed, which felt constricting. The bathroom in our room was renovated on the hallway side opposite the courtyard. However, with a building directly above it that seemed visible from outside despite bamboo blinds being installed partially for privacy, we felt uneasy using it—especially at night when visibility from surrounding areas seemed possible. The purpose or occupancy of nearby buildings was unclear but added to an overall sense of discomfort. When entering or exiting the accommodation, there was no one at reception; it wasn’t clear if monitoring via cameras occurred or how entry by others might be managed securely. A phone number for contact during staff absence was provided; however, when calling due to an issue and failing initially through reception lines before reaching someone after prolonged ringing twice via mobile (incurring call charges), alternative methods may better address emergencies without causing concern over accessibility delays. While staying within this registered cultural property offered charm and ambiance appreciated overall—meals required traveling briefly offsite toward Kakujourou dining facilities nearby (as noted online beforehand). Still minimizing such movement would enhance convenience further during stays. At checkout time too lacked farewell gestures previously experienced like photo-taking moments shared fondly remembered earlier visits here among its limited eight-room capacity setup featuring Onsen baths compensating adequately even sans private en-suite options available otherwise comfortably sufficient amenities-wise altogether!

    Local fish is delicious.

    Having previously stayed at Kakujoro, I decided to try its sister accommodation. The atmosphere of the accommodation beautifully preserves the charm of its traditional inn era. The lobby is spacious, and I enjoyed feeding the koi in the courtyard. The room on the second floor was a large Japanese-style room, clean and bright with comfortable air conditioning and beds. Since there was no private bath in the room, we used one of the two family baths available without any waiting time. It was an onsen. Dinner is served at Kakujoro, where guests dine at a counter facing the courtyard alongside others from different rooms. When I stayed at Kakujoro before, meals were served in a private dining room, which I preferred as it felt more relaxing compared to sitting at a counter where conversations from others can be distracting. Additionally, our dining pace is slow but dishes were served too quickly this time, making it feel rushed. The highlights of dinner were fresh local fish sashimi, corn tajine hot pot, fried pufferfish (fugu), and shirasu rice to finish—everything was delicious. Breakfast was also served at the same counter seating area; however for breakfast this arrangement felt fine. The grilled Spanish mackerel (sawara) was exceptional. We requested shuttle service from Mikawa Tahara Station as it’s quite far from there; this assistance was greatly appreciated!

    Take your time.

    I visited with my wife and enjoyed a relaxing time in a serene, timeless environment. The private Onsen was not very impressive, but the Room was spacious. What stood out most was the dining experience in a separate building, with a quiet and pleasant walk to get there. My wife mentioned she couldn't forget the quail eggs.

    It was a lovely Room.

    My parents stayed for one night from 1/14. We received a call informing us of a cancellation the day before the reservation, and our room was upgraded. We were very satisfied with the very lovely room called Yamabeni-no-Ma, and my travel-loving parents returned home delighted. Thank you very much. Since it is nearby, I would like to use it myself next time.

    100 points for charm

    The Room was clean, and the meals were delicious. We were able to enjoy our meal slowly as requested. The seasoning was exactly to my taste, and the moromi mayonnaise was so good that I wanted to ask for the recipe. I planned to buy the homemade ponzu at checkout, but it was sold out. It seems everyone had the same idea. There were shampoo, body soap, cleansing, lotion, and emulsion in the bath and Room. Wi-Fi is also available. There are two private baths, and both have the same Facility and hot water. The water area is also clean. You can turn on the heater in the dressing room. If you are confident in your appetite, I think it's good to upgrade the meal. The Room is wooden, so if you are concerned about footsteps, a Room on the second floor might be safer. You can hear voices from the hallway slightly. There were tabi socks prepared in the Room, but for those who are sensitive to cold, it might be better to bring thick socks in December.

    It was a delightful experience.

    Knocked out by the deliciousness of the meals, following Kakujourou in May, I chose Idutsurou this time, changing the season. As we head into winter, the dinner featured fugu shirako chawanmushi, fugu karaage, and fugu hot pot. Although it wasn't a fugu course, I felt lucky to enjoy a little bit of fugu mixed in with various dishes. Every dish was truly delicious, and I was stuffed. The highlight of breakfast was the refillable dashimaki tamago, and the happiness of biting into the hot dashimaki! Like dinner, every other dish was also delicious, and once again, I was stuffed. Besides eating, I enjoyed the baths at Kakujourou, Idutsurou, and the Room bath, and indulged in the luxury of doing nothing but lounging around. It truly became a wonderful Good Couple's Day. The only disappointment was the rattling of the bedroom window due to strong winds, which was noisy all night. The renovation beautifully utilized the retro building, and I really liked the old fittings, but I wished the bedroom, at least, could be quiet. Since the Atsumi Peninsula often experiences strong winds, I hope for improvements.

    It might be a new type of Ryokan.

    When I stayed at Kakujourou, it was under renovation, but I was curious and decided to visit after the renovations were completed. Upon arrival, I checked in via LINE. At the reception, I received various explanations and was told that the key was already in the room, so I could go directly there. It felt like a mix between a hotel and a ryokan. The room was clean as it hadn't been long since the renovation. However, meals are at Kakujourou. The onsen is a simple spring with a circulation system, so it doesn't quite feel like an onsen property. The reception staff were from Southeast Asia and were very polite and pleasant, but I didn't see any staff members except during check-in. I initially thought of giving a score of 4 for service, but I realized while writing this that I didn't receive the Diamond Member souvenir, so I changed it to 3. For young people, considering the room size and cleanliness, I think the cost performance is good.

    Happy hour is nice.

    The location is in a residential area with nothing around, so there's nothing particular to comment on. The road leading there is narrow because it's a residential area. It's nice that you can drink alcohol until 5 PM. The building has a quaint charm and allows for a leisurely stay. It's great that the bath is private. You need to go to the nearby Kakujourou for meals, but it's nice that you can use both the bath and dining facilities. The food is delicious. There were a few small spiders, but I guess that's inevitable given the building. It was an inn where I could relax and enjoy a beer.
