    We were able to enjoy a unique, out-of-the-ordinary experience.

    The Room was extremely modern, and we, as an elderly couple, couldn’t quite get used to it. We also felt a bit uneasy about the stairs and the bathroom. It’s probably an Accommodation better suited for younger guests. The wood-fired cuisine was wonderful and offered us a new discovery. Since we had bought gin at the Nozawa Onsen Distillery the day before, they told us delicious ways to enjoy it and its characteristics, which truly impressed us.

    Bar and Onsen

    For bar lovers and those who enjoy a Room with an Onsen, this is a wonderful Accommodation. In Kusatsu Onsen, I had the impression there weren’t many notable bars, so I really appreciated this. The drinks paired with the meals were excellent. Of course, the food was also delicious. Marcel Deiss was outstanding. Every cocktail was delicious, from mixology-style creations to classic standards. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great drinks and an in-room Onsen.

    A hidden Accommodation in Kusatsu that you’ll want to return to again and again

    Because it is located a little away from Yubatake, we were able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. The interior has a refined, design-forward atmosphere, yet since the building was originally a cottage and has been renovated, it also feels wonderfully cozy with the warmth and scent of wood. The guest-room bath with free-flowing Onsen water direct from the source was a bit hot at first, but once we got used to it, it felt amazing and allowed us to fully enjoy Kusatsu’s Onsen. After bathing, we felt warmed through to the core and our skin felt pleasantly moisturized. Even the amenities such as lotion were high quality, and we could sense attention to detail throughout. Both dinner and breakfast were truly outstanding, and each dish reflected great care in ingredient selection. The vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, and Joshu beef grilled over a wood fire had an especially fragrant savoriness that left a strong impression. The octopus rice at dinner and the white rice cooked in an earthenware pot at breakfast were also exceptional—perfect with grated yam and bonito flakes. It was a meal where you could really appreciate how delicious the rice itself is. We are not very knowledgeable about wine or sake, but there was an impressive selection, and the well-informed master recommended options tailored to our preferences—making this Accommodation particularly appealing for those who love drinks. Some past Reviews included harsh comments, but after staying ourselves, we could clearly see sincere efforts to improve; it felt like this Accommodation continues to evolve into something even better. Even understatedly put, it was an exceptional stay. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Facility offerings, Onsen baths, cuisine, and hospitality. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that we would absolutely want to stay again when visiting Kusatsu.

    Birthday

    We stayed here for my partner’s birthday. Our Room was room1, and the open-air bath was fed directly from the hot spring source and large enough to stretch out in. Everything was spotless, and it was wonderful. The TV was broken, but it was replaced promptly during dinner; honestly, I wish this had been noticed before check-in. Still, I appreciate the staff’s quick response. All of the meals were delicious, but perhaps due to limited staffing, there were slightly long gaps between courses, which was disappointing. Most disappointing of all: although there are only four Rooms and we expected a quiet stay, the footsteps from upstairs were very loud and we couldn’t relax. Overall satisfaction is 3 stars.

    A design-focused Accommodation with free-flowing hot spring water straight from the source! In addition to delicious seasonal meals, the owner, who has studied to be a sommelier, also offers excellent drinks. Recommended as an Accommodation for treating yourself. You’re sure to have a wonderful time.

    I definitely want to stay here again!

    I chose to stay here because I love alcohol and wanted to enjoy an Onsen while watching the snow. I walked from Yubatake, but with the snow I got a little lost. (Most other guests seemed to arrive by car.) The welcome cocktail was stylish and instantly raised my expectations, and the Room was spacious. The Onsen temperature was just right. However, footsteps do carry quite a bit. The food was simply delicious, and I loved how it reflected the season. It paired perfectly with drinks, and I was very happy to discover a sake that suited my taste. I also ordered a cocktail at the bar with dessert, which was excellent as well—I enjoyed everything from start to finish. Next time, I’d like to visit in a different season. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

    Everything about this Hotel was absolutely wonderful. I visited to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and from the welcome drink with a lovely cocktail to the interior design that perfectly matched my taste, I couldn't contain my excitement throughout the stay. The meals were all so delicious that I couldn't even pick a favorite dish because everything was exceptional. For breakfast, freshly shaved bonito flakes were prepared right in front of us to accompany freshly cooked rice—it was pure happiness. My boyfriend was also incredibly pleased, and I truly felt choosing this place was the best decision ever. It was our first trip to Kusatsu and our first time celebrating his birthday together, but everything—from the hospitality to the Hotel's interior design, meal quality, and drinks—was perfect beyond expectations. This is the first Hotel that made me think "I definitely want to come back again." Thank you for taking such great care of us during our stay!

    A relaxing accommodation you'll want to visit again.

    This is my fourth visit. A heartwarming accommodation run by a lovely couple. I keep coming back for the host's extensive knowledge of alcohol trivia and the hostess's attentive hospitality. The onsen in the private room bath is exceptional, with perfectly balanced water temperature. It's a bath that makes you want to soak in peace without any interruptions. I've stayed in Room 3 and Room 4, both of which are stylish and charming in their own unique ways. The seasonal meals are also outstanding, perfectly complementing the drinks. With an open kitchen, you can enjoy watching the chef at work if you get a good seat. The chef's personality adds to the experience as well. The tempura was absolutely exquisite, and the creatively prepared rice served at breakfast is so delicious that you'll definitely want seconds. There’s an attached bar where you can enjoy cocktails while listening to fascinating stories from the host. Afterward, dive into your futon back in your room! It truly embodies "staying at a bar with onsen." With an option for an 11:00 AM checkout, I’m already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you as always!

    Stay at the Bar.

    We visited as a couple. The concept of staying at a bar was not just perfect for someone like me who enjoys bars regularly, but even beyond that. The meals were neither too strong in flavor nor too large in portion, perfectly suiting my taste. And the drinks—having conversations about alcohol with the master while enjoying whiskey or cocktails tailored to my preferences without worrying about heading home—made for an exceptional experience. I’m not usually the type to revisit accommodations, but I am certain I want to return here again.

    Excellent in every way

    Clean and beautiful rooms, relaxing baths, and delicious meals and drinks. The staff's warm hospitality was exceptional! Everything was perfect. A stylish, tasteful, and impressive accommodation. I would love to visit again!

    No repeat visits likely.

    The quality of the Onsen was good, but... [Disappointing Points] - Arrived at 14:30, but the key was not ready. I have stayed at various accommodations, but this was the first time I experienced a locked door 30 minutes before check-in. It would have been helpful if this had been mentioned in advance. - There was a clump of dust about 5mm on the bar counter during check-in. - No internal phone in the room. I had to call using my mobile phone. - The walls were so thin that I could hear sounds from the neighboring room's bidet and voices clearly. - The room key was too stiff, making it very difficult to lock and unlock the door. - The slippers provided for use inside the room were actually for walking around within the facility, so I couldn't walk barefoot comfortably inside my own room and relax properly. - While taking photos at an empty bar counter, we were told: "Please refrain from taking photos if others arrive; you might get sued if they appear in your pictures." (We had no intention of taking photos once others arrived anyway.) However, when other guests later came (who were loud and intoxicated), they took multiple photos even with other guests present without being cautioned by staff (despite their behavior being inappropriate). This left me feeling frustrated as only we were warned earlier when no one else was around. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

    Extraordinary

    We stayed here for the first time as a couple. Everything was extraordinary, and we spent our time without turning on the TV. An open-air bath while watching powder snow gently falling. Exquisite dishes prepared by the young head chef. A martini after dinner. It was perfect.

    Very satisfied.

    Facility, Room, Onsen, Hospitality, Alcohol Everything is very satisfying. Especially for those who love the alcohol bar, it is highly recommended. Since it is a bit away from the Yubatake, it is quiet and relaxing. I truly recommend it.

    I stayed one night at Kusatsu Onsen VAN.

    - With only 4 rooms, it was very quiet and relaxing. The Room1 was very clean, and the private open-air bath was larger than expected, allowing for a leisurely stretch. - The meals were beyond imagination. The main dishes did not use common ingredients like beef or pork, but rather surprising ingredients with a Japanese taste, yet the balance of Japanese and Western fusion was excellent. The tableware was also very particular, and the appearance was wonderful. - From dessert, we moved to the bar counter in the room to enjoy cocktails. Strong cocktails like Between the Sheets were also delicious. We were able to have a very enjoyable conversation about drinks across the counter. - It was a level of excellence beyond the hotel's bar counter. - The hospitality was excellent, and although the chef was young, the explanations were easy to understand and left a very good impression. - I think breakfast was the ultimate in luxury despite its simplicity. The freshly shaved bonito flakes, slightly prepared grated yam, and above all, the rice cooked in an earthen pot were extremely delicious. - There was nothing to complain about, and compared to the satisfaction of actually staying, the price felt reasonable.

    Of course, the best Onsen quality in Japan, but the owner's detailed explanation of the Onsen doubled its benefits. A young genius chef. Thank you for the enjoyable and delicious dish.
