    It was a comfortable stay.

The Facility is well equipped, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to spend a quiet stay at their own pace. Every meal was delicious, and I was very satisfied. It was also fun and pleasant to be able to enjoy services at various facilities while out for a walk.

    Considering the price

This was my first time staying here. I was satisfied with the Room, amenities, and the in-room bath. However, there was no shop or vending machine in the building (or maybe I just couldn’t find one), so I had to buy drinks at the nearest convenience store and bring them back. Free drinks are provided from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, but I felt that time window was a bit limited. There is a tablet in the Room, and at other Accommodation it usually provides information and other features, but here it only functioned as a way to call the front desk. Wi-Fi is available and works, but that’s standard these days, so it wasn’t particularly noteworthy either way. Dinner was yakiniku (at an affiliated restaurant), which was unusual and very enjoyable. Breakfast is selected at check-in. It was filling enough that I didn’t get hungry until well into the afternoon. The building is clean and the service isn’t bad, so I felt it would be even better if they aimed a bit more for thoughtful attention to detail.

Once again, the food was outstanding.

Well, speaking as a couple, this is gradually becoming our ideal Hotel (laughs). The Room is a comfortable size and never feels cramped. The staff—and the chef and kitchen team—work in perfect sync, and we appreciated being able to enjoy our meals at an unhurried pace. And the in-room Onsen was wonderful. We usually prefer a fully Japanese breakfast, but everything here—from the salad to the main dish—was flawless. If we had to mention one thing, it might be limited to the Rooms on the second floor: when other guests open or close their doors, perhaps due to air pressure, we sometimes heard a rattling sound as our door seemed to shake, which startled us (and it can make you aware of people coming and going). Even so, we keep making another Reservation—this may become our one-and-only Hotel.

It seems best suited for guests who want to fully enjoy their stay.

We felt a bit uneasy because the Reviews were mixed, but for us it was absolutely the right choice. Highly recommended especially for anyone looking for a “staycation” style getaway. [Concept] I can see why opinions vary. Rather than offering the high-touch hospitality, extensive service, and activities you might expect from a typical Ryokan or an international Hotel, this place seems to value letting guests spend time freely at their own pace. That concept suited us perfectly, so we felt very comfortable. [Room & Onsen] Everything we needed was neatly organized in the drawers, and there was no excessive explanation or interference—just a relaxing atmosphere where we could use our time however we liked. The Room called “Aoyagi” feels open and spacious as soon as you enter; it’s just right even for four people. The bathroom area is properly partitioned as well. We were told the Onsen uses natural hot spring water that is cooled naturally to a comfortable temperature without adding water. Personally, I’d recommend visiting around late autumn to winter for the scenery; in summer, insects might be more noticeable. The hair dryer is Dyson. [Meals] The Plan that allows you to dine in your Room is excellent. Everything was delicious, and we could relax without worrying about time or being seen by others—choosing this Plan was definitely the right call. Near the entrance there’s a storage room stocked with drinks and snacks. You can take what you like back to your Room and enjoy it there, which really enhances the overall stay. [Affiliated Facilities] There was a perk that allowed us to use Onsens and saunas within the Suizantei group, and they can also arrange shuttle transportation. We also received complimentary gelato from Ame No Hi and Yuki No Hi (Rainy Day / Snowy Day). Please make sure to visit Holiday Building as well—this perk alone makes a Multiple Night Stay worthwhile. This isn’t directly related to this Accommodation itself, but around town we often saw staff wearing “beginner” name tags at various places—many of them young—and it gave us the sense that the whole area is working together to build momentum. People were kind enough to speak to us just because we were carrying an Accommodation guest pouch; it’s a town that makes you want to come back. A Multiple Night Stay was absolutely the right choice. If your goal is simply to slow down and relax, you’ll be able to enjoy this Hotel’s appeal much more deeply by staying multiple nights. Do you offer any Plans designed specifically for longer stays? Also, having laundry facilities would have been great.

It’s the same as various Reviews.

This was our first stay. As they say, first impressions matter: when we arrived, another party was being checked in, and we received no attention until it was finished. The staff apologized during our check-in, but even with only seven rooms, having just one staff member is understandably tough. The open-air bath also felt a bit inconvenient since the shower area is separate—so it’s essentially bath-only. We had dinner at the annex and enjoyed the chef’s cuisine, which was truly delicious. It was my first time having such a genre-free dinner, and all I could say was: simply outstanding. Next time, I’d like to stay in the annex again and have the chef’s dinner once more.

Dinner at Matsunao Kyokkyoku in the annex was enjoyable.

Although we arrived at the entrance by private car, there was no staff greeting. We carried our luggage ourselves up the entrance steps and into the building. At the front desk, there was only one staff member who was assisting another guest, so we waited for a while. At check-in, we were shown the storage room next to the front desk (a space with soft drinks, beer, ice cream, and snack-style treats), and then guided to Room 101 with a private open-air bath and sauna. The in-room open-air bath and sauna were very comfortable, and it was wonderful to relax in a private space. In the morning we could hear birds singing, and soaking in the early-morning open-air bath while feeling the fresh air was especially pleasant. Dinner was at “Matsuhanaoku Ibarahamagare.” Since the restaurant is in a separate building not connected to the main building, we walked there. The course meal served at a semicircular counter was carefully prepared throughout, and together with conversation with the chef, it made for a highly satisfying dining experience. Breakfast was self-serve in-room dining. We had reserved 8:00, but it had not been delivered to the box at the entrance on time, so we called after 15 minutes to follow up. On departure as well, there was only one front desk staff member, and there was no send-off at the entrance after checkout. This may be their style as an Accommodation that values privacy despite limited staffing; however, preferences will likely vary regarding service. That said, both the Room amenities and dinner were excellent overall, so it ended up being a very satisfying stay.

    Maybe the worst expe...

Maybe the worst experience we had in Japan. First, there is no reception, and no one explained the facilities or the meals. The hot spring water was not warm enough, and the tool provided to clean it was dangerous—it injured my husband. The location also does not offer a better view than other places. For this price, we do not recommend it.

    Seven-tier yakiniku barbecue

I love the Suizantei group because the food is delicious. Especially the desserts—everything I tried was amazing. Suigan is a new Hotel, so it’s clean and feels great. It was only for one hour from 9:00 PM, but drinks were free, and I could enjoy a variety of options like beer and highballs. There were also a few snacks, which made it fun. Dinner was yakiniku!! Yakiniku at an Onsen? That’s what I thought at first, but it was quite filling, with many different cuts and flavors. It was delicious and really enjoyable. It totally works! I did wish there were even a simple chair in the washroom area, but overall I loved it. I’m planning to come back again.

The best facilities, the best service, and the best cuisine.

For the final stay of my Hokkaido trip, I chose Jozankei Onsen “Suigan Annex Matsunaokyoku.” Opened last April, it’s beautifully maintained and spotless. Every Room has a private Onsen bath, so there is no large public bath—perfect for a quiet, stay-in retreat. From check-in onward, Chef Komatsu and the sous-chef personally take care of everything, creating a heartwarming atmosphere despite the luxurious Facility. The welcome sweet was oyaki, reflecting that the chef is from Nagano. The Room also had Chef Komatsu’s homemade detox water, and with 24-hour free-flowing natural hot spring water in the in-room bath, it was incredibly relaxing. I came for Chef Komatsu’s cuisine, of course—but the Room itself was just as amazing.

    The Room interior ha...

The Room interior has a cohesive color scheme and feels stylish. With two king-size beds, you can sleep comfortably with plenty of space. The Room is shoes-off style, which makes it easy to relax. Breakfast was delicious and more filling than expected. The lighting, cutlery, and tableware were also lovely. Here are a few things that concerned me. At check-in, I made a Reservation for dinner at 20:00 and was told to wait in the lobby at 19:45 because a bus would take us to the annex. We waited at that time, but there was no attendant and no bus. Even though we were right in front of the counter looking for the bus and staff, the restaurant staff did not speak to us either. There were only two guests dining; it’s an open kitchen, so I don’t think they could have missed seeing us walking around—yet they seemed unconcerned. Only after we stepped outside to check did someone finally speak to us. Then an attendant arrived, but by then the dinner venue was already crowded and we were told to wait. I think we waited about 15 minutes. I was surprised because this has never happened at any Hotel I’ve stayed at before. It’s fine that guests need to Reserve the free shuttle bus partnered with the group hotels from Sapporo to Jozankei themselves, but there are very few departures—and the only convenient option is 14:40 (11:30 is too early for check-in; 17:00 is too late). I managed to get a Reservation for the outbound trip, but couldn’t even make one for the return trip, which meant walking from the Hotel to a bus stop—very inconvenient. Even on the outbound shuttle I reserved, it stopped at several partner group hotels along the way, and then required transferring mid-route onto a separate shuttle dedicated to this Hotel. Since there is already a dedicated shuttle, I wish guests with Reservations could book it directly as well—especially since there aren’t many Rooms here and likely not that many guests arriving by bus. When I previously stayed at another Hotel in Jozankei, their free shuttle from Sapporo arrived right around check-in time and departed shortly after checkout time, which worked perfectly—so this was disappointing in comparison.

    This was my first st...

This was my first stay. The Facility is new and spotless, and the Room is compact yet stylish with a calm, relaxing feel. It’s a bit tight for two people, but it’s more than enough space for solo travelers or younger friends traveling together. There was complimentary fruit water in the refrigerator, and it was the first time I’d seen detox water with so much fruit in it! I refilled it several times, but it stayed flavorful and delicious right up until check-out. The bed is the Suizantei Group “marshmallow bed” (mattress) type placed on a wooden platform. I bumped my foot on the platform a few times and almost fell toward the sofa side when half-asleep in the morning, so if you’re clumsy like me, please be careful. The staff were also very polite. We went to another Facility for dinner, but while waiting for the shuttle bus there was such an amazing aroma that I regretted choosing a Plan that didn’t include dinner here. Breakfast is a Western-style set with a choice of main dish. It was fun to choose and tasted great, though I would have loved at least one more Japanese-style option. The only negatives were the bath drainage and an unexplained noise that echoed until late at night. I’m not sure if it was from a boiler or because our Room was above the kitchen area, but we were bothered by it until around 2:00 a.m., and both of us ended up sleep-deprived. It’s close to Sapporo; there’s Onsen in the Room; prices are reasonable; everything is new and clean; and there are enjoyable nighttime free drinks including house-made liqueurs. The food is also excellent—so if you can sleep through any noise, this place comes highly recommended.

    We had a wonderful time!

We stayed for a Two-Night Stay in Room 201, “Yamato-mai.” The staff’s hospitality was outstanding and truly moving. Being able to freely bring self-serve drinks and snacks to our room as much as we liked made for an Accommodation experience unlike anything we’ve had before. We enjoyed dinner both in our room and at the group’s restaurant, and both were exquisite, generous in portion, and extremely satisfying. My wife and I have become fans of Suigan, so we’ve already made another Reservation for a Two-Night Stay in July (haha). We’re looking forward to our next stay! Thank you very much.

    Services

We visited for a family birthday, but we were not satisfied with the freshness, presentation, or portion sizes of the meals, and the containers used to deliver them did not seem hygienic. The bathroom amenities were also not replenished, which made it feel unclean. Although the concept seems to be staying without seeing anyone, we felt the service was lacking for the price. We will not return.

    - As a renovated Hotel that used to be a corporate retreat, it doesn’t feel like a typical “hotel” in either a good or bad way. - Compared with similar types of Hotels or villas around Sapporo, it offers good value for money, but if you’re looking for something truly special, it may feel underwhelming. - The ceiling light above the sofa is directly overhead when seated and is very glaring. - There is only one lighting switch point (living area/entrance/bedroom), with no indirect or secondary lighting and no dimmer. It’s either very bright or completely dark, so it’s hard to create any atmosphere—such a missed opportunity. (Adding indirect lighting would help.) - Meals are delivered through a small window next to the entrance… which feels like a love hotel. (It would be much better to deliver them normally with a simple “We’ve brought your meal.”) - Meals are delivered as above, and there are items like a pot, cutting board, and knife (used to cut breakfast bread) in the drawers; having even just a note such as “Cleaned & sanitized” would make quite an impression difference. Since there isn’t one, it would be better to add it. - A side table by the open-air bath in the guest Room would be nice. (I’d like to enjoy a drink after using the sauna and soaking in the open-air bath, but there’s nowhere to put it.) - The shower pressure is extremely strong. Stronger is better than weak, but at full blast it’s painful. (Changing the shower head might improve this.) - The shower glass is cloudy from water stains; it should be cleaned thoroughly. - Breakfast and dinner can both be enjoyed in the Room, but food odors linger; improved ventilation or something like aroma diffusers would help. - There are many drawers under the TV and on shelves, but so many of them are empty that it feels unnatural. - As an Accommodation guest benefit, you can use the Onsen and café at a nearby Ryokan; it would be nice if there were options that could still be used after check-in with some added flexibility. (If check-in is late you can’t go at all—and since guests stay here specifically for this Ryokan experience, I think few people will go out of their way to visit another Onsen instead. If this also serves as promotion for affiliated Hotels, being able to go after check-out would make more sense.) - There’s a great sauna and free drinks available—but only “Oropo” without the “Po.” (It would be greatly appreciated if Oronamin C were also provided; those who want it should naturally buy some at a convenience store.)

Thank you very much for your exceptionally courteous service.

Although it was the season between autumn foliage and snowy scenery, soaking in the Onsen while gazing at the mountain views lined with sunlit trees under a clear blue sky was truly special. The shabu-shabu was also delicious. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality and attentive service. We truly appreciate everything and would love to visit again.

The Room was comfortable and enjoyable.

The Accommodation is located at the end of a road that made us a little unsure we were going the right way. There was no sign, and there was no “Suigan” name displayed on the front of the Hotel either, so having even one sign would have been reassuring. The Room was wonderful in every way—the design, the appliances provided, and the bath were all excellent. I was also happy (as a woman) that the hair dryer was a Dyson. The self-setting meals felt new to us, tasted great, and were nice because we could eat at our own pace without worrying about others. Both dinner and breakfast portions were very large; for dinner we used ice to store some as a late-night meal and split it into two rounds to finish everything. Premium Access drinks and gelato can be enjoyed using the leather pouch you receive after check-in. Unfortunately, the gelato shop we most wanted to visit was closed that day, so we missed out—I should have checked in advance. At night, we went on our own to join an illumination event limited to Jozankei overnight guests that we had researched beforehand. I didn’t realize that participation tickets needed to be picked up at the Accommodation front desk, so I caused some trouble, but we were able to enjoy it in the end. Also, before heading out, staff kindly asked if we wanted to use the Shuttle Service; however, I mistakenly thought it was only for an affiliated Onsen Facility. When I saw the Shuttle Service vehicle on site later, I realized it might have been available for getting to the illumination as well. We enjoyed a pleasant walk nearby anyway, but I would have appreciated an explanation about the illumination event and Shuttle Service—and receiving the tickets—at check-in. Overall, it was a very good stay: we enjoyed soaking in our private Onsen many times during our stay, doing lovely complimentary sparklers (senko-hanabi), and making full use of snacks, ice cream, and drinks. Thank you very much.

    Luxurious space!

I was able to relax in a private space! I was disappointed to find what seemed to be kitchen paper remnants in the breakfast soup.
