    A Culinary Accommodation

Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The restaurant staff were outstanding, timing each course perfectly. The welcome drink at the bar and the closing parfait were exciting and a great touch. Also, thank you for kindly accommodating our schedule change as a typhoon was approaching. One minor drawback was that, perhaps because of the smart-service style, in-person hospitality felt inconsistent at times—for example, a forgotten mobile order at the bar and having to call the front desk in the morning. Given that tipping is expected, it felt like a missed opportunity.

Ideal for young couples who love saunas and Instagram-worthy stays

I booked this Accommodation because I wanted to enjoy an Onsen when visiting Sendai. There were also guests with tattoos, and my impression is that if you’re looking for truly satisfying baths, service, and meals, you should turn back. First, check-in: right after making the Reservation, I received instructions for automated check-in and had to register. Even if you complete everything in advance, you still end up waiting on the day (seriously). All you do is scan a code at a terminal, but there didn’t seem to be enough terminals or staff. Even though I had reserved the open-air bath for after check-in started, I was kept waiting for quite a while. In-person guidance was truly minimal—basically “read everything on your phone.” If that’s the case, they should at least provide phone chargers in each Room and around the property. The private sauna requires advance booking; by check-in time, only early the next morning was available. Private open-air bath slots were relatively available, but due to heavy rain the changing area was soaking wet. The roof was very basic and the sound of rain was loud, so it wasn’t relaxing. At meals as well, drinks are ordered via mobile ordering—but there’s no button to call staff or request water/tea. With so few staff members around, if you miss your chance it’s game over. Dinner is limited to 90 minutes, but it felt less like they wanted guests to enjoy that time and more like a speedrun to get everyone out as fast as possible. Some people finished within 30 minutes. I chose the course with the most dishes, but while I was still eating they moved plates away from me and placed the next dish right in front of me—constantly rushing me—so I finished in 50 minutes. By then every other guest had already left. Portions were very small. Rice or bread isn’t served during dinner either; even after completing all extras (parfait at the bar and late-night warm noodles), I still didn’t feel satisfied. It honestly made me wonder if portions were reduced because I’m a woman. Breakfast was similar: even after finishing all of the rice from the pot it felt insufficient—and that rice itself was mushy. Overall, the food felt like small “stylish” portions made to look good rather than taste great. It was also disappointing that despite booking their best course plan(s), my seats both morning and night were at an edge table with no nice view. As mentioned earlier regarding tattoos: while I thought it showed tolerance that tattooed guests could use it freely as well, there are too few washing stations for the number of guests. There’s no outdoor bath in the large public bath area—just two indoor baths with slight partitions—so it felt inconvenient and disappointing. The Room walls are thin; voices and TV sounds came through clearly. If you take Seibu Liner on weekends (Sat/Sun), some people couldn’t get seats during what is about a 30-minute ride one way—so lining up early is recommended. I won’t be going again.

The meals and the Room were great.

I stayed here the night before a business trip. I’ve stayed in Akiu at other accommodations several times before, but this time I wanted to try somewhere different, so I chose this Accommodation. This time I had a Room with a semi-open-air bath, and for a Room with a semi-open-air bath plus breakfast and dinner at this price, it felt very affordable—excellent value for money. The meals were more than sufficient and very delicious. What disappointed me was the system of “Please do everything via the smartphone app (check-in/out, ordering drinks at dinner, etc.).” The system itself isn’t an issue, but the app is quite difficult to use. On top of that, there was an option to “pay a tip,” which left me feeling uneasy. To begin with, “minimal service simplified through an app” and “asking for tips” feel contradictory. There also wasn’t any particularly attentive service that would make me want to tip—and I honestly wondered how guests are supposed to remember staff names and think, “I want to tip this person!” At first I considered not writing this Review. However, the following week I traveled elsewhere and stayed at another Hotel with similar self check-in, but the staff response was completely different—it reminded me how I want an Accommodation experience to be—so I decided to write this Review. It’s such a shame because the bath and meals are great, but the app itself is disappointing. Has whoever created it actually tried using it? The dinner drink ordering screen is hard to understand; not only me but other guests were also asking staff for help. For dinner drinks in particular, ordering directly would clearly be more efficient. It also seems the welcome drink was only available until 17:30; since I checked in 15 minutes late, I couldn’t have it. As for breakfast time, I was told “8:00 is full; only 9:00 onward is available.” When I said “Then I'll leave without breakfast,” they replied “We can prepare it for 8:00.” (I wish they had said that from the start.) Since your pricing is already low, I think it would leave a better impression if you removed tipping altogether and simply included everything in the listed price from the beginning. That would also allow tips (service charges) to be distributed among all staff members—under the current method back-of-house staff are disadvantaged. It’s unfortunate because it could have been a great Accommodation overall—but if there’s any record like “this guest didn’t tip last time,” that makes me uncomfortable enough that there may not be a next stay.

    Overall satisfied

The property uses smart check-in and mobile ordering throughout. Staff are of course available, so if you’re unsure about anything, they will assist you and there’s no problem. It felt like unnecessary extras have been eliminated to enhance the quality of meals and other services. The Room with a semi-open-air bath was more than spacious enough. The interior seems to have been renovated, so it didn’t feel particularly old, but the Room is not barrier-free and there were quite a few steps/level changes. The staff were friendly, and overall it was a very satisfying Accommodation. One thing: free coffee was provided in the lobby, but unfortunately it wasn’t drinkable. I used it while waiting to check in, and since that’s an important moment that shapes first impressions of an Accommodation, I wanted to mention it.

A stylish Hotel with a calm atmosphere

Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The meals made generous use of local ingredients and were thoughtfully prepared, which made them a pleasure. In the bar lounge where dessert was served after the meal, jazz played on vinyl records, and I found myself absorbed for a while in a book that explained coffee in detail (along with many other hobby books, including guides to wine and cocktails). It’s a small Hotel, but I felt it had a calm, pleasant atmosphere.

    We had a wonderful time!

I stayed here for the first time to refresh on my own. The Hotel building itself is a bit old, but the inside of the Hotel and my Room were clean and very comfortable. The meals were delicious, and even though I was alone, I was shown to a counter seat with a great view, so I could enjoy dining without any hesitation. The welcome cocktail at the bar and the finishing parfait were also excellent, and I really enjoyed chatting with the bartenders. Solo refresh trips might become a habit (lol). I’d definitely love to visit again! Thank you very much.

    1) I stayed here for...

    1) I stayed here for 2 nights, but I had to use the self-service check-in system every day to get the door entry code. 2) The food was good in both quality and quantity. Free coffee is available at the bar all day, and free delicious hot noodles are served for supper. 3) No bottled water is provided in the room, but there is a water dispenser in the hallway. 4) The room and indoor onsen were clean.

    Lack of Hospitality

In short, everything seems designed for the Accommodation’s convenience, with no real sense of welcoming guests. - From check-in to check-out, operations are basically handled via QR codes, which makes it hard to relax after arriving at the Accommodation. - The Room smelled bad—like an old Business Hotel. Musty and damp. - Only one towel was provided in the washroom. - The bathroom felt outdated, and even the open-air bath requires a Reservation. - The clay-pot rice and miso soup at breakfast were good, but the dessert didn’t match. - Dinner is supposedly French-style, but everything is masked with sauces. The main beef steak was especially greasy and disappointing. - The staff worked hard and were not unpleasant, so this is probably an issue with management’s mindset. - Even if prices are raised slightly, they should think more carefully about what guests want from staying at an “Accommodation.” The most important thing is hospitality—and that requires more staff.

    We stayed as a coupl...

We stayed as a couple. At check-in, a staff member came out to assist us at the front desk, which was very helpful. Dinner was the smallest course, but we were also served parfaits in the lounge after the meal and Shiroishi nyumen as a late-night snack, so we were more than satisfied. When we chatted with a staff member at the bar counter, they quickly placed a leaflet with nearby sightseeing information that matched our conversation, and we really appreciated their attentiveness. At breakfast, two types of kama-cooked rice made with Miyagi-grown rice were served, and it was fun to compare them. Overall, the seasoning wasn’t too strong and everything was easy to enjoy. As for the Facility, I felt it would be nice to have a chair by the washbasin. We felt this is an excellent Accommodation for adults to relax and unwind. If we have another opportunity, we would love to stay again.

    One small disappointment...

When making the reservation, I noted that I dislike meat and requested a change in ingredients, for which I received a call advising me to simply avoid eating the meat. I had booked with dinner and breakfast included, and when seated for dinner, courses were served featuring dishes like pork shabu-shabu and beef steak with plenty of meat. The dishes I could eat were all delicious, which made me wish even more that the ingredients could have been adjusted. The staff provided excellent service, making my stay pleasant overall; however, it left me feeling somewhat disappointed or unsettled. This was my first time having such a request declined but it was a learning experience to know this can happen. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Currently at the Fuga Bar.

The welcome drink cocktail had a unique flavor, reminiscent of bubble-like mist with a sweet aroma that was truly striking. The portion size was just right for those who enjoy drinking without feeling too full—a thoughtful touch. After dinner, we enjoyed the bar, which offered original cocktails and an impressive selection of whiskeys. Breakfast was also excellent, both in taste and portion size, leaving us fully satisfied.

    The Facility is good.

I stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath, which was clean, spacious, and had an amazing wooden-scented open-air bath. The optional private sauna was also fantastic. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were very delicious. However, the smart services implemented throughout the Hotel made it feel impersonal, and the staff's responses were rather mechanical with disappointing hospitality levels. My main dissatisfaction included not being able to check in before 4:00 PM under any circumstances; drink orders during meals had to be placed via QR code (felt like a cheap pub); and while I didn't use it but peeked inside—the public bath seemed subpar likely due to the presence of private open-air baths. If you're looking for hospitality during your Hotel stay, I wouldn't recommend this place.

    I had a relaxing stay.

I enjoyed a relaxing time with the sauna and the bath in the Room. The portion of the meals was just right. The carpaccio and bagna cauda were very delicious. Thank you very much. One thing I noticed was that the walls seemed thin, as I could hear the TV and conversations from the neighboring Room quite clearly.

    The food is delicious.

The presentation and taste of the dishes were all delicious, and I finished everything. For the finale, you can move to another location to enjoy warm tantan-style somen noodles and dessert. Although the absence of rice leaves a bit to be desired, I am quite satisfied. For those with a big appetite, there is a famous store called "Shufu no Mise Saichi" (a well-known ohagi shop) near the property, so it might be a good idea to purchase various items before checking in.
