    A Relaxing Accommodation

    Located about an hour from Toyama Station (or Shin-Takaoka if coming directly by Shinkansen from Tokyo), this accommodation nestled in a scattered village surrounded by rice fields offers a perfect blend of traditional architecture and modern facilities, ensuring a relaxing stay. Upon check-in, not only were the facilities explained, but tea was also prepared for us, immediately easing our minds. We stayed in the "Shi" room featuring interiors decorated with traditional Japanese paper. The room was spacious and comfortable. The absence of a TV reflects the accommodation's intention to let guests enjoy the serene atmosphere of the scattered village. We played light background music using our Bluetooth speaker connected to our smartphone, but since JBL speakers are provided in-room, all you need is your phone. The bed was large and very comfortable, allowing for restful sleep. The staff were kind and attentive, and the meals were delicious (for those who enjoy alcohol, pairing is recommended; however, an all-inclusive option might feel more relaxed). Guests can freely take local beer, highballs, snacks, etc., from the pantry to enjoy in the lounge area. Although we stayed for just one night this time around, we would love to spend more days here as a base for exploring Toyama. This accommodation is especially recommended for those living busy lives in urban areas looking for some tranquility.

    Like staying in an art museum

    The building, Room interiors, and furnishings are all exceptional. It was an unparalleled experience to touch and admire artistic plates and pitchers while enjoying a drink, as if viewing them through glass. The price is indeed in the high range, but it was absolutely worth it. The cuisine was also outstanding. The staff's deep knowledge of art and philosophy was truly inspiring and educational. Although I just returned, I already feel like visiting again. The Facility, including its location, is excellent. Highly recommended for those who love folk crafts. Thank you very much!

    A unique and serene space nestled in the rich countryside of Tonami.

    Encouraged by reviews calling it "the best accommodation ever," we visited during the scorching heat of late July. In conclusion, it became one of the best accommodations I have ever experienced. Above all, the lush green rice fields of Tonami Plain and the majestic peaks like Mt. Hakusan and Mt. Tateyama surrounding them were breathtaking. The luxury of being able to gaze at this stunning scenery from the deck of our room was indescribable. The guided walk through scattered villages, learning about nearby temples, history, geography such as Shogawa River, and the role of Kainyo was also a wonderful experience (please look it up if you're curious). Upon arrival, we had a rare opportunity to enjoy tea prepared by a staff member qualified as a tea ceremony instructor. Although I felt slightly nervous, what left an impression on me was how they decorated with flowers picked from around the accommodation—this gave me a warm feeling right from the start as if blending naturally with life there. And most importantly—the food! The creative course meal centered around fish was hands down one of the most delicious dinners I've ever had in my life—absolutely sensational! Chef Fumiya Higuchi is incredibly talented despite his young age! Even more charming was how each menu item was represented by just one kanji character—a unique touch. Since it coincided with sunset hours during dinner time, watching how the evening sky transformed moment by moment added another layer to this unforgettable experience—it left me speechless. Though I don’t follow any particular faith myself, its beauty made me think inwardly: “Perhaps there really is a divine presence…” As night fell further accompanied by frogs' chorus echoing all around us—it truly became an ultimate sensory delight. Lastly but importantly—the art that enriches Rakudoan’s atmosphere cannot be overlooked. Whether in "The Earth Room" where we stayed or shared spaces including gardens—you’ll find artistic pieces seamlessly integrated into their surroundings without overwhelming them entirely subtle yet impactful additions throughout every corner here make staying even more special especially those passionate about arts would surely appreciate visiting too!

    A hospitality-focused accommodation nestled in the serene countryside of Toyama, offering stays for only three groups. Mid-May is a beautiful season with rice planting and lush green wheat fields. The meals are delicious, and the rooms and furnishings create a lovely atmosphere, but above all, the warm hospitality of the staff left a lasting impression. For those seeking tranquility (with sounds like frogs croaking) and relaxing moments amidst soothing scenery, this is highly recommended. Depending on the season, meals are carefully prepared to highlight the natural flavors of ingredients, featuring an abundance of Toyama's finest produce. This accommodation feels like a heartfelt hometown you’ll want to revisit again.

    Make the extraordinary your everyday.

    I stayed in the Washi Room in late January, and although some time has passed since my stay, I must say it was the most comfortable experience I've ever had among all the accommodations and hotels I've visited. It’s almost difficult to put into words how exceptional it was. The arrangement of Mingei crafts and Scandinavian furniture was exquisite, with top-quality pieces displayed so naturally. The joy of seeing Rei Naito's sensitive artwork casually placed beside a desk—something even national museums limit viewing times for due to light sensitivity—is indescribable. Not only were the building, Mingei crafts, and artworks remarkable, but also the thoughtful care from the staff and their heartfelt stories during the scattered village walk made for an enjoyable experience filled with local pride. A highlight worth mentioning is Chef Fumiya Higuchi's cuisine offered as a pop-up! Using local ingredients effortlessly prepared without boundaries between Japanese or Western styles, his dishes showcased impeccable taste and left me thoroughly satisfied. The beauty of Mingei tableware further enhanced my appetite. Both this accommodation and Chef Higuchi’s cuisine are experiences I would love to enjoy again. I look forward to visiting again in different seasons!

    I visited on a day w...

    I visited on a day when a heavy snow warning was issued, and I felt reassured by the very courteous response to my inquiries from a few days before. As a result, I was able to visit safely on the day, and Rakudoan standing in the deep, all-encompassing silver world was breathtakingly beautiful. It was an unforgettable view for a lifetime. All of the staff were very kind, and it conveyed their pride in this land, allowing me to feel respect for it as well. The Room and interior were tastefully adorned with art pieces and designer chairs that design enthusiasts would find irresistible. The meals were also very delicious; however, I would have appreciated more hot meals (such as egg dishes or charcuterie) at breakfast. Of course, I had high expectations, but in reality, this Property exceeded those expectations with overwhelming emotion and satisfaction. It's a Property that I definitely want to visit again with different seasons and Rooms. Thank you very much.
