    Mold in the air conditioner

    The air conditioners in the living room and bedroom were fine, but the air conditioner in the dining area smelled moldy—so much so that I hesitated to enter the Room. Other than that, the service, hospitality, and meals were very satisfying. If the air conditioner is cleaned, it would be perfect.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    I stayed for one night during the Obon holiday period, and it was a truly wonderful stay. With only 10 Rooms, the Accommodation was very quiet and private, and I hardly ran into other guests during my stay. The Room was spacious and spotless, and the open-air bath in the Room was very relaxing, allowing me to unwind at a leisurely pace. The food was also excellent, and I was extremely satisfied.

    We were able to relax, but

    After a hectic stretch, I wanted to unwind somewhere with character that’s relatively close to Tokyo, so I chose this Accommodation. The Accommodation itself seems new and very clean, which raised my expectations. When I was shown to my Room, it had that fresh scent of a new Japanese-style room. Open the window and you hear the waves. And then there’s the open-air bath—an unbeatable setting. The water isn’t dramatically “miraculous,” but it warms you through and sinks into your core. Then came dinner. As for dinner, one word: disappointing. More than disappointing, it made me wonder: this food at this price? I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan—famous places and lesser-known ones—and between work and personal travel, I spend dozens of nights away every year. I love food and dine out in all kinds of restaurants as well. So I can tell. The sashimi wasn’t just an issue of portion size or freshness—it was more basic than that: who prepared this? Even supposedly fresh horse mackerel and tuna can taste completely different depending on how they’re cut. This ruined them. The wasabi and ginger were store-bought processed products. That only made the horse mackerel smell fishy. Prepared wasabi has an odd artificial savoriness—you can’t even tell what you’re tasting. How many of the other dishes were actually homemade? Was everything homemade? For an Accommodation costing over ¥100,000 per night, I expected much more solid cooking. Since the Room and location are so good, it’s a shame not to serve food that matches. I’m sure the staff are doing their best, but I think they would benefit from more thorough training in basic customer service as well.

    Surrounded by nature, I loved the quiet, relaxing atmosphere and the ocean view right in front of me from the Room and the open-air bath.

    Family Trip

    We stayed with our family of five to celebrate my husband’s retirement. Our daughter and her husband booked a separate Room and were happy they could relax. We were able to eat together in our Room, which made it a fun and memorable trip. The open, spacious bath was wonderful, and the silky water felt very pleasant. They also replaced our towels, which made our stay comfortable. Thank you for your hospitality. However, the dinner portions felt insufficient—I'm not sure what the main dish was supposed to be. It wasn’t visually appealing either, which was disappointing. The rice was also too soft... Breakfast had a good variety of side dishes, but the miso soup sardine dumplings were too heavy, with little depth of broth flavor... The rice also had many overly hard, crispy parts—perhaps because it was cooked in a pot... I think the meals should be improved.

    The facilities were a perfect 120/100! The service side (meals & staff) was 0–10/10.

    I’ll be honest in this Review. *I run a restaurant myself, so please forgive my strict perspective. The Facility grade and location were outstanding—truly flawless. However, the “soft” aspects, especially the meals and the attendants’ service level, were very disappointing. The menu focused on local Kamogawa seafood, but none of the dishes felt fresh. Honestly, I felt the chef’s menu planning was a zero. Why soba? Why somen? And why serve two kinds of noodles? The soba seemed pre-made and had clumped together. The braised pork served with the final freshly cooked rice was unbelievably tiny—about the size of a sugar cube. If you asked whether I’d want to eat the same meal again, it’s at a level where I never would. I took a bite or two of each dish and ended up leaving most of it. I’m sorry. Because my expectations were high, the gap was simply too big—and that was disappointing. As for returning: If the food is completely revamped, I’d love to visit again. Regarding service from the attendants, there’s room for improvement depending on training and growth—but honestly, I felt even APA Hotel or other Business Hotels offer a higher service standard. Sorry for such a harsh Review.

    The Adult

    I was amazed by the spacious Room and the view right in front of me. I was able to enjoy a relaxing, adults-only time. The food was delicious, and I could take my time eating it. This is an Accommodation I would like to stay at again.

    Second Stay at Rian

    I stayed again for two nights, just like last time, after a six-month break. As before, everything was flawless, including the room and the Onsen. The hospitality was especially outstanding, and as someone in the service industry, I learned a lot. Thank you for three memorable days.

    A Trip to Kamogawa

    I have traveled to the Boso area many times, but finding this Ryokan at first was difficult. I called and they came to pick me up. The road was narrow and cars could not pass each other, but the Ryokan was located in an open spot on top of a mountain. Many staff members welcomed me, and I was able to enter comfortably. It seems to be a Ryokan built in 2022, and the scent of fresh wood filled the air. I was shown to my Room, and the attendant’s explanations were very polite as they guided me through everything inside. There was one large TV in the Room, and another identical TV in the dining Room. The bath was a semi-open-air Onsen bath, with an indoor soaking tub as well. The meals were innovative—full of dishes that are rare in Boso—and everything was delicious. This is one of the Ryokan I would like to visit again.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    Although we stayed for only one night, we were able to relax. The building itself was new and very clean. Dinner was delicious and the portion size was just right. The open-air bath in the Room was also spacious and clean. We felt the handrail by the open-air bath would be easier to use if it were a little higher.

    As far as the eye could see, it was all ocean.

    From the Room, beyond the reflecting pool, the ocean stretched as far as the eye could see. On a sunny day, it felt wonderful to take in the sea from a low vantage point.

    With scenery that felt like a tropical getaway, it was a wonderful Accommodation just as shown in the photos. The staff and meals were excellent. Thank you for your warm hospitality. It was so relaxing and comfortable that I didn’t want to go home yet.

    A disappointing stay.

    Because of the high ratings, my expectations were too high, but this stay did not live up to them. Not only the service, but also the food was not what you would expect from a luxury Ryokan. The Facility felt clean, but aside from that I found everything extremely disappointing.

    Enjoy an adults-only Onsen getaway

    I made a Reservation with my sister to treat ourselves to a luxurious, adults-only Onsen getaway. We were both very satisfied with the thoughtful hospitality and the wonderful Room and baths. We would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.

    It was cozy and we were very satisfied.

    From pick-up to departure, we were treated with attentive hospitality throughout. The private open-air bath in the Room, available all day, was the ultimate luxury. It was wonderful at any time of day. Breakfast is Japanese-style only, so if you prefer bread, it may be a good idea to bring your own.

    I’m back after three months.

    This was our second stay since the end of last year—thank you again for taking such good care of us. First, we were delighted when you greeted us in the parking lot with “Welcome back.” Above all, the moment we were shown to our Room and sat down on the sofa, we felt all the tension in our bodies melt away at once. We have stayed at Accommodations all over The whole country, but we have never experienced anything like that before. The Room may be minimal, yet everything is thoughtfully arranged; the open-air Onsen bath while looking out at the sea; the cuisine featuring an abundance of seasonal local ingredients; and the way your staff carry themselves—everything is truly stress-free for us, and it reminded us once again why we feel so comfortable here. Thanks to you, we were able to relax from the bottom of our hearts. It’s easy to understand why so many guests make the most of their stay from check-in to check-out. We’ll be back again soon.     Tranquility

    We enjoyed a Multiple Night Stay. Unfortunately, it rained for two days. With the windows closed, we couldn’t hear any outside noise at all, so we were able to relax in peace. On the first day, I gazed absentmindedly at the sea and blue sky and was surprised to notice again that the horizon is slightly curved. At night, we could also see many stars. The meals featured seasonal ingredients and were very delicious—neither too much nor too little, with just the right portions. The best part was the quality of the Onsen water: my skin felt silky smooth, and I warmed up from deep within. Since it’s close to Tokyo, I’d like to visit again in a different season.

    We used this property to host guests from overseas, and they seemed to relax and unwind. They thoroughly enjoyed the in-room open-air bath and were very satisfied with the beautifully presented dinner.     We had a wonderful time.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality the other day. We stayed with you to celebrate my son after his university entrance exams. The Room was lovely, the meals were delicious, and the staff were courteous—we had a wonderful time as a family. That said, we should have checked in advance, but the pajamas provided in the Room seemed too small for my son (180 cm). It would be great if guests could choose a size. Also, it would be nice to have a small tray where we can place accessories.

    From the very first phone call before our stay, everyone was so pleasant that we were looking forward to our visit even before arriving. From the warm welcome upon arrival at the Accommodation, to being shown to our Room, and the staff member who assisted us with our in-room dining Plan, everything was handled with such courteous hospitality that we felt comfortable and happy throughout our stay. Thank you very much. The building itself is beautiful, and the Room, balcony, and bathroom were all thoroughly cleaned and felt wonderfully fresh and spotless. The open-air bath in the Room was also spacious enough for two people to enjoy together. As for the meals, we were very satisfied with the serving pace, taste, and portion sizes. Seasoning preferences vary from person to person, but I was happy that my sister—who usually doesn’t eat much rice—ended up getting a second helping. Thank you for the delicious rice and wonderful dishes seasoned perfectly to go with it. We’re sorry for being rushed at check-out… Even though we were running behind schedule, you carried our luggage out to the car and kindly offered to take a photo of us together—thank you for your thoughtful care until the very end. It became an amazing sisters’ trip. Thank you very much.

    A Blissful Stay

    I stayed at Kamogawa Onsen Rian and had a truly satisfying time. Every dish was delicious, and the care put into each item really came through. The in-room open-air bath left my skin feeling smooth, and I was able to relax and unwind. The staff member assigned to us provided attentive service, making us feel comfortable and at ease.     It was my first visit in a year.

    I visited again for the first time in a year. I was relieved to be shown to the same Room as last time. Thank you for your thoughtful care. All of the staff were very polite and warm, and I was able to relax peacefully. Dinner was a kaiseki course centered on fish, and every dish was delicious. The portions were just right, and I left feeling pleasantly full. Breakfast was also carefully prepared down to each side dish, with gentle seasoning that felt kind to the body, and it was truly delicious. It was only one night, but I was able to spend a very relaxing stay and was completely satisfied. I would love to visit again.

    A safe and secure Onsen Ryokan with an Airdog air purifier installed in each guest room.

    All staff members wore masks properly, and their attention to infection prevention was thorough. The clean, calm guest room was equipped with the “Airdog” air purifier used by the prestigious Aoyama Gakuin University team in the Hakone Ekiden, and it operated quietly. COVID-19 cannot be said to be fully over yet, but since its reclassification to Category 5, some hotel chains have begun promoting “mask-free service,” citing reasons such as prioritizing hospitality with smiles. In this environment, I felt that this Onsen Ryokan’s careful continuation of infection-control measures is truly valuable. In addition, the private open-air bath in each room, fresh and delicious seafood dishes, the understated complimentary drink service, and the staff’s smiles that came through even behind their masks all made for a highly satisfying stay. I would definitely like to return.

    Very good.

    The Room had a pleasant atmosphere, and the bed was very comfortable. All Rooms offer views of the Pacific Ocean, but unfortunately there are power lines that partially obstruct the view (though this may be unavoidable). The indoor bath, semi-open-air Onsen bath, washbasin, and other amenities were all high-end. Meals were served in a private dining room, and both dinner and breakfast were very satisfying. For this price range, it was an Accommodation with no complaints.

    Warm, heartfelt hospitality

    We stayed for two nights over New Year’s. Since I’m usually busy, I searched for an Accommodation with a scenic room and a private open-air bath, and chose this one. The staff member in charge was very pleasant, the food was delicious with just the right portions, and the bath was wonderful... We were able to truly relax. It’s such a shame that there are countless power lines running in front of the sea. (I wonder if the photos provided by the Accommodation have been edited...) It pulls you back to reality, so I think this may need to be addressed. It was a mother-and-daughter trip, and we made great memories.

    Excellent hospitality!

    This is my second visit in two consecutive years. The Room was spacious with a great view. The TV was large, and you can watch YouTube (don’t forget to Clear the app before leaving). The bath was slightly small, but the water temperature was perfect. The staff member who assisted us was cheerful and very pleasant. For dinner, the steamed abalone stood out as delicious. It was slightly rare, but the liver sauce with sansho seasoning made it delightful. The red miso soup was also excellent. I’m not a fan of simmered golden eye snapper, so I asked if it could be replaced as a long shot—and to my delight, they accommodated my request! However, the substitute dish of Saikyo-yaki fish turned out too sweet for my taste (haha). There were some great sake options like Kokuryu Daiginjo. As for sleeping conditions, I couldn’t sleep due to the loud noise from the air conditioner and ended up turning it off—it wasn’t cold though, so that worked out fine. I requested an adjustment upon departure. The bed’s comfort level was excellent. Breakfast exceeded expectations—it couldn’t have been better! The standout dish for me was clam soup; the clams were large and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of saltiness. The dessert fruits and post-meal coffee were also high-quality. Even after checkout, we were sent off with bright smiles which left us feeling wonderful on our way home. I’d love to visit again!
