Three blissful days to escape the everyday
We stayed at Kinugawa Onsen “Kizuna” from July 31 to August 2, 2026 (2 nights/3 days). We checked in with two adults, one child, and two Chihuahuas. I thought I had made a Reservation for a Room without an open-air bath, but due to what seemed to be a communication issue, we were instead shown to a Room with an open-air bath (a lucky surprise). Having an open-air bath in the Room meant we could enjoy the Onsen anytime, day or night, and our whole family had a truly happy time. For every meal (breakfast and dinner), we were able to dine in a private room (rather than the usual shared dining area). The menu changed each time, so we looked forward to every meal and headed there excitedly. Each dish was refined and absolutely delicious. With drinks as well, we felt completely satisfied after every meal. By chance, the Nikko Fireworks Festival was held on Saturday, August 8, and we were able to enjoy spectacular fireworks from our Room as well (another lucky moment). Above all else, what made our stay so comfortable was the attentive service from the manager and staff members—and their genuine hospitality in accommodating guests’ requests. That level of professionalism seemed to fill the entire Ryokan, allowing guests to relax completely and enjoy an exceptional experience. For three days, we fully enjoyed an extraordinary getaway both physically and mentally. It may sound childish, but it was such a wonderful Ryokan that I didn’t want to leave—I wanted to stay forever. Everyone in our family kept saying “Let’s come again,” so we will definitely return. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who took care of us at “Kizuna.” Thank you very much for everything.

Completely satisfied with the luxurious meals.
We enjoyed warm, privacy-conscious hospitality and truly excellent cuisine. The homemade ponzu served with the shabu-shabu at dinner and the sauce for the yudofu at breakfast were especially outstanding. The junmai ginjo nama sake we had with the meal was also very delicious. Overall, this was the best pet-friendly Hotel we have stayed at so far. Throughout the property, pet sheets and paw-wiping towels were placed everywhere, which made us feel well cared for. The open-air private family bath was relaxing and let us enjoy the fresh air, but it was disappointing that the large public bath was completely screened off and felt like a prison. In hindsight, going to the public bath after the family bath may have been a mistake. Also, the washbasin area was small and inconvenient to use, and while the Japanese-style room felt unnecessarily spacious, we found the bed a bit firm yet comfortable to sleep on.

It was very good.
We stayed at Sumire. The Room was spacious and clean, and the in-room bath was also large, which was wonderful. Since it is not along the Kinugawa River, we did not expect much of a view, but the courtyard seen from the window was very beautiful. The food was delicious, and because it is a private dining room restaurant, we were able to relax with our dog without worrying about others. The Accommodation interior was lovely, with flowers displayed throughout. The only downside was that the indoor dog run felt dark and plain, as if they had simply opened up what used to be a banquet hall, which seemed like a missed opportunity. Best of all was the staff member who assisted us—their service and attentiveness were outstanding! We would love to visit again.

A pet-friendly accommodation with delicious meals!
It was an accommodation that made me glad I stayed! All the staff were very pleasant and provided excellent service. The room was spacious and clean, and although the onsen in the large public bath wasn't very big, it was a great onsen. What stood out the most was the food! Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with each dish being satisfying. One thing that caught my attention was the indoor dog run. While this is something we pet owners should take responsibility for, I felt that wearing sanitary pants should be mandatory for infection prevention and hygiene purposes. Overall, I was extremely satisfied and would love to visit this accommodation again. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful holiday!

A Warm and Welcoming Accommodation
Yesterday, I stayed at Nikko Onsen Kizuna. During our stay, my beloved dog fell ill and had an incident of bloody stool, which unfortunately soiled the room and the dog run. I felt truly sorry for causing such trouble. Despite this, the staff were incredibly kind and understanding throughout, offering warm words without a single unpleasant expression. Their thoughtful support during such a stressful time left a lasting impression on me. Although it was an anxious situation, their warmth brought us great comfort. More than just being "dog-first," this accommodation also deeply cares about people's feelings. I am filled with gratitude. Thank you so much!

An accommodation where even your dog refuses to leave! (laughs)
We visited to celebrate our dog's first birthday. Since it was our dog's first time staying overnight, we packed familiar items in the crate to ease any anxiety, but they were mostly unnecessary. From check-in, the staff called our dog by name, which made them very happy. The room was a spacious 18-tatami mat Japanese-style Room and quickly turned into a dog run. The building's design allowed for exploration both inside and outside, making walks enjoyable even when we got lost several times. For bathroom needs, there were facilities conveniently located throughout the property for peace of mind. Additionally, there was a warm water pool for dogs and a private family bath available for 45 minutes each. The dog pool had adjustable depth with wooden boards; we started with foot-level water to get them used to it before supporting their belly and moving them into deeper water where they successfully paddled around! Afterward, we enjoyed the family bath next door where dogs could stay with us (except in the tub), allowing us to relax in Onsen together. Meals were shared with our dog at a large dining table paired with wide-seated chairs so we could enjoy dinner side by side. Although initially cautious about new foods, they happily finished everything. After dinner, we played at an indoor dog run before heading out to explore the garden where kabuki music from an outdoor performance caught their attention. We walked toward it and ended up meeting theater staff and performers in the lobby who played with our dog—making them even happier. Throughout our stay, our dog's eyes sparkled as they seemed genuinely delighted every moment of it! At checkout time came an unexpected refusal to leave—they didn’t want to step off the property! It truly became an unforgettable memory for us all; we'll definitely return every year on their birthday moving forward—thank you so much! As for reducing stars on amenities like Onsen or meals: this is based on comparisons with other similarly priced Ryokan we've stayed at previously that cater more exclusively without pets since I understand non-pet guests also stay here occasionally too!

Stayed one night wit...
Stayed one night with my beloved dog! The hospitality was exceptional in every aspect, and I had a relaxing time in the Room. The pet amenities were well-prepared, allowing my dog to roam freely, and meals were pet-friendly too. From the open-air bath to the bed, every detail showed great care and thoughtfulness. I was thoroughly satisfied and will definitely visit again. Thank you so much!!!

I would like to visit next time in winter.
First trip with our dog 1 year and 3-month-old bulldog The staff was very welcoming, and we had a very relaxing stay. The food was delicious, and we were able to dine in a private room with our dog, which was wonderful. The room had separate open-air Onsen baths for humans and pets, which was fantastic. Most importantly, the room was clean with no pet odor. We could even sleep together on the bed, making it an excellent experience. We stayed on a weekday and enjoyed the indoor and outdoor dog runs (our first time using one), allowing us to relax leisurely. Thank you very much!

Absolutely wonderful
The service was excellent. Everyone was kind, even to our dog. The Room was spacious and clean! The open-air bath was also great. The meals were hearty and filling, and they were absolutely delicious! You can bring your dog with you during meals, so there's no need to worry about leaving them alone in the Room. There is a large indoor dog run as well as an outdoor one, allowing dogs to run freely without getting dirty. There’s also a cute photo booth, and the yukata for guests in the Room were adorable—very satisfying! If I had to point out something, it would be that there’s only one bath in the public bath area, and it’s not very large—it felt a bit lacking. It made me think that just using the open-air bath in the Room would be enough. I used the open-air bath in our Room both morning and night—it was truly wonderful. There is also a bathtub for dogs; it’s spacious enough for large dogs or even for people to bathe together comfortably. Our Room had two open-air baths plus an indoor bathtub—a fantastic setup overall. Lastly, I want to mention how amazing our attendant lady was—she treated us with such kindness. I’d love to visit again!

A property I want to visit again!
The staff were very polite and dog-friendly, which was great! It has become one of the properties I would like to stay at again. With attractions like Tobu World Square and Nikko Edomura nearby, there was plenty to enjoy!

With a dachshund during the New Year holidays. The public bath is small and disappointing for the price.
The garden in the facility was spacious, and it was nice to spend time quietly, but I felt the service did not match the price. Comfortable for dogs!! The Room was equipped with pet sheets, water, treats, and dishes, and poop bags were placed in various spots in the hallway, ensuring cleanliness and no odor. The large public bath was disappointing. Despite the spaciousness, the bath was unusually small. The food was delicious, but the frozen feel was noticeable, and the staff service was lacking. The rice serving was sloppy, the ordered alcohol didn't arrive, and the dessert was forgotten. The New Year's soba was delicious!!

Maybe I expected too much.
After using Kizuna in Shuzenji a few years ago, we used Kizuna again after a long time. We went on a one-night, two-day trip over the weekend, but unfortunately, our dog fell ill on Saturday. We thought of taking him to an animal hospital and asked the front desk if there was a good animal hospital open at night or on Sunday nearby. They said there were no hospitals open on Sunday, and we would have to go to Utsunomiya (over an hour by car). Wondering if that was true, we researched ourselves and found 5 or 6 animal hospitals in Nikko City (within a 30-minute drive) that were open on Sunday mornings. However, for us, who had no sense of the area or information while traveling, finding a hospital was not easy. After searching various reviews and information, we were able to have a very good veterinarian see our dog, which was a relief. Since this Ryokan caters mainly to guests with dogs and prides itself on hospitality for dogs, and is not cheap, we would have liked them to at least be aware of animal hospitals. We usually check for animal hospitals at our destination before going on a trip, but perhaps we were too relaxed this time. Also, this is not about the Ryokan's response, but there was someone constantly using their smartphone in the dressing room of the public bath. Of course, there were naked people around. Compared to before, it felt like the quality of guests had declined, which was very unpleasant and disappointing. We expected too much in various ways.

Not worth the price at all.
I often stay at properties that cost 50,000 to 60,000 yen per night, but this was the first time I felt a property was not worth the price. I feel deceived by the good reviews and photos. Honestly, even 30,000 yen would be too high for this level. The room was old and smelled bad. The food had few dishes, none memorable, and there were no particularly high-end ingredients. The rice at breakfast was about the only thing that was good. I was surprised at the low quality of the large public bath, especially since it's an onsen area. It was quite disappointing with only a small indoor bath. I was also shocked that there was no open-air bath. It was a gift trip for my in-laws, but I felt really sorry because so many things were disappointing. Charging 60,000 yen per person at this level is astonishing. I regret not being able to take them to a nicer property for this price. It's great that it's dog-first, but I wish they would review things a bit more from a human perspective. Charging 3,000 yen even for a 0-year-old baby is laughable. What justifies such a bold pricing strategy? I will never stay here again.

Accommodation not worth the price
The staff who took care of us from meal service to check-out was kind, reassuring, and had a wonderful smile. Thank you very much. As for the evaluation of the inn, it is as stated in the title. The interior had a musty smell, and I was concerned about the odor, so I wore a mask when sleeping. With a mask, it was not bothersome, but it might be difficult for those with allergies. The room had a half-hearted renovation, making it not very user-friendly. At this price, I think there are many inns with much more comprehensive amenities, meals, hot springs, and facilities. This time, our schedule suddenly opened up, and Kizuna was the inn we could stay at, so we were taken care of. It's valuable to have an inn where you can stay with your dog all the time, which is appreciated, but... I might not use it next time? I think.
