    What We Missed Despite NEST and the Excellent Breakfast

    Thank you very much for taking care of us during our 3-night, 4-day stay. First of all, I want to say that the NEST Room was truly wonderful. The expansive view through the large windows—of the sea, ferries, and even sunlight filtering through the trees—became part of the scenery, creating a space where we felt at one with nature. I was deeply impressed by the design that makes such beautiful use of borrowed scenery; it even reminded me of Geoffrey Bawa’s architectural Hotels where I stayed in Sri Lanka. Breakfast also exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the thoughtfully crafted menu each morning, and we were especially impressed by how delicious Ama Town’s rice is. Choosing a breakfast-included Plan was absolutely the right decision. The location was excellent as well—close to the port and perfect as a base for sightseeing around the island—and we could really feel everyone’s love for the island through how hard all staff members work. Hoping this will become an even more wonderful Hotel in the future, I would also like to share a few points that stood out. Because this trip was to celebrate my daughter’s 20th birthday, I requested a birthday plate at the restaurant in advance, but it was not prepared on the day. As it was an important milestone occasion, this was very disappointing. Having a reliable system to ensure such important requests are properly shared would help guests feel reassured when staying. Also, while everyone’s hospitality was warm, I felt there were some inconsistencies in guidance and service. Information about events varied depending on who assisted us, and there were moments when we thought, “If we had known about that earlier, we would have liked to join.” Lastly, regarding the Room air conditioning: once morning sunlight began coming in, the temperature rose considerably. Even with setting it to 20°C with maximum fan speed, it still felt hot. We wanted to enjoy the view but had to close blackout curtains just to stay comfortable, which was unfortunate. This may have been an isolated issue with our unit; I would appreciate it if you could check. The architecture, views, breakfast—and Ama Town itself—were truly captivating. That is exactly why I believe that if service consistency improves further, this could become a one-of-a-kind Hotel. Thank you very much again.

    Everything is provided.

    Overall, everything was excellent, but if I had to mention one thing, I’d like to see the large public bath renovated. It feels quite old—the door is heavy, the floors in both the bathing area and changing room are worn and slippery, and the cleaning didn’t seem as thorough as it could be—which was disappointing. The views in the morning and evening are especially wonderful. The food was also very delicious. It’s the perfect place to go when you want to do nothing at all.

    They were extremely kind—I didn’t expect to find such a great Hotel in Oki.

    They were extremely kind. The next day, I tried to book a sightseeing taxi, but none were available and I was in trouble. A member of the Hotel staff kindly showed me around for half a day. Thank you so much. It may be rude to say this, but I was surprised to find such a wonderful Hotel in Oki.

    Excellent location

    I visited Ama Town to see a friend, and on their recommendation I stayed at Ento. The large windows offered a stunning view—one you could watch forever. It was my first time in the Oki Islands, and there were so many places I wanted to visit that I couldn’t relax and spend much time at the Hotel, which was a real shame. It’s such a wonderful Hotel that I wish I’d been able to stay longer and take it easy.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    It was very quiet and relaxing—perfect for a solo trip. For breakfast, they didn’t just follow what I had requested in advance; they also asked for details at check-in, and on the day they adjusted the menu for me, which I really appreciated. The large public bath was spacious enough and very clean. I tried to Reserve dinner, but I did so too late and it was already fully booked, so I couldn’t use it. I managed by making a Reservation at a restaurant near the Hotel, though. If you’d like to dine at the Hotel, I recommend making your Reservation early.

    A locally rooted Hotel

    This Hotel does not seem to be part of a chain; it appears to be operated by a company that plays a key role in revitalizing the local community. It was simple rather than flashy, and I had a very comfortable stay. The meals, made with local ingredients, felt like a luxury considering you can enjoy them in this setting. The drink pairing—such as sake—was also wonderful, and listening to the explanations made it an even more delicious experience. Thank you. If I could ask for one thing: although guests come here to relax in peace and quiet, when children run around or shout, the building’s structure and acoustics can make it feel quite loud. As others have mentioned, I understand it may be difficult to keep children quiet, so separating Accommodation buildings or providing a kids’ room might help ensure an enjoyable stay for everyone.

    It was the best weekend.

    I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days, and it was a wonderful three-day stay that left me feeling truly refreshed. The view from the Room was very soothing, and the meals in the dining area were all delicious—creative dishes made with local ingredients. The staff’s thoughtfulness was exceptional; I was deeply impressed when they even brought me my return ferry ticket that I had left in the Room after I checked out. The three days I spent at this Hotel have become unforgettable memories. I will definitely visit Oki Island again, and when I do, I would love to stay at this Hotel once more. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    You can relax here.

    I was a little anxious about traveling to the island—it's far from Tokyo, and I was going alone—but I decided to go for it. It was absolutely worth it: every part of the trip, from the flights and ferry rides to my stay at the Hotel, was truly enjoyable. The Hotel was very comfortable and impeccably clean, and everyone there treated me with such kindness. (In particular, on a rainy day when I couldn’t go out, they kindly offered me coffee, and they were extremely thoughtful about meals for me as someone with a dairy allergy.) I rarely feel like returning to the same Accommodation, but this time I genuinely wanted to stay again. Thank you so much for everything. The Room had a soothing natural wood scent, and the island views—changing throughout the day—were beautiful. Even on rainy days, I never got tired of looking at them. Each meal was wonderful in its own way and made for such an enjoyable time; even now that I’m back in Tokyo, I often think about it. *One note not directly related to the Hotel but hopefully helpful for getting to the island:* If you’re traveling from Yonago Airport, taxis to Shichirui Port are limited. If you plan to take a taxi to the port, it’s reassuring to call and make a Reservation several days in advance! (I assumed there would be taxis at the airport that day, but there were none at all—and when I called around I was told they were all taken—so I nearly missed my ferry. Thankfully someone who found a taxi first kindly offered to share their ride when they saw how worried I was.)

    A Comfortable and Extraordinary Experience

    This was our second trip to Oki, and staying at Ento, which wasn't there during our last visit, was undoubtedly the highlight of this journey. The stay exceeded all expectations. While it may seem inconvenient with access only by boat, no TV, and minimal amenities, the facility offers unique experiences such as a branch of the town library and exhibits from the Global Geopark. These features allowed us to enjoy an extraordinary time away from daily life. From the windows, we could frequently see boats passing between islands—a view that never got boring. We dined at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. The dinner was particularly outstanding with delicious dishes featuring local ingredients unique to Oki. They also arranged a surprise I had requested in advance, which delighted my companion immensely. The only downside was that the large communal bath was out of service during our stay; however, they kindly provided shuttle service to a public bath in town. We look forward to using their large bath on our next visit!

    Public Bath

    The public bath was disappointing. It had a musty smell, and I hope it gets renovated soon. Everything else was excellent, and the dinner at the dining area was very delicious.

    A one-of-a-kind view

    A panoramic ocean view from the window. It's no exaggeration to say this view is the reason for coming here. Far more breathtaking than any photo or video—nothing compares to seeing it with your own eyes. The location can be challenging to access due to transportation and ferry schedules, and good weather during your stay is essential, making it a rare opportunity. However, the view from the window here is absolutely worth it. I'm so glad I made it. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Enjoyed the view from the Room and the nature of Oki.

    This trip aimed to enjoy the "view from the room" and "nature of Oki," and entô exceeded all expectations. Particularly memorable were the "Geo Gallery" and "Night Cruise." The gallery beautifully showcased exhibits on Oki's geology and nature, offering an inspiring experience. The Night Cruise, while dependent on weather conditions, was truly worth it. Watching glowing bioluminescent plankton from a boat floating on the night sea was a magical and unforgettable experience. However, as April can be quite cold with chilly benches on board, thorough preparation for warmth is recommended. The room exceeded expectations based on photos. The view of the sea through large windows was stunning, with changing scenery throughout the day being particularly captivating. We were fortunate to witness a breathtaking sunrise—waking up early to see it is highly recommended. While watching passing ships added charm, it's worth noting that if you can see them from your room, they might also have a view into your space. The staff members were polite and attentive despite being mostly young professionals. Their hospitality made our stay pleasant and even led us to reflect that nurturing young talent in this setting could become part of the island's culture and scenery. Meals featured local ingredients prepared thoughtfully—perfectly portioned for us as a couple in our 40s but perhaps worth discussing in advance if you prefer larger servings. Breakfast varied daily: bento-style one day and ochazuke (rice with tea) another day—both delightful experiences. During dinner, we enjoyed sampling different sake varieties while staff provided detailed explanations about their backgrounds, enhancing our enjoyment alongside delicious dishes. There are two Onsen facilities; while there may be some contrast between their views compared to the exceptional rooms' ambiance, they were still enjoyable overall. Initially hesitant about walking through the stylish lobby in loungewear to reach them, we discovered a direct route via Geo Gallery on New Wing’s first floor that made multiple visits more convenient. Overall, this trip left us deeply satisfied; however, balancing time between exploring the island and enjoying accommodation proved challenging—it seems essential either to set clear priorities or embrace doing nothing at all during an Oki visit! This realization only adds another reason why we'd love to return someday for another wonderful journey here!

    The French course is not available for preschool-aged children.

    Please prohibit preschool children from accompanying guests for dinner at "Ento Dining," or alternatively, provide an option for guests with young children to have their meals delivered to their Room. It is very distressing to hear the screams and cries of toddlers in their tantrum phase echoing throughout the restaurant while trying to enjoy a French course meal that costs over 10,000 yen. While such situations may be unavoidable at family buffets, Ento Dining's atmosphere and course meal concept seem designed for adults to quietly enjoy their dining experience. After traveling long hours from the mainland to visit Ento, looking forward to a unique and exceptional experience only available here, it was disappointing that this once-in-a-lifetime moment turned into eating a full-course French meal accompanied by the screams of crying toddlers. For restaurants in a certain price range that value ambiance, prohibiting preschool children is not uncommon and would be appreciated. Allowing usage by guests with unruly young children could alienate customers seeking relaxation and tranquility away from daily life. The Hotel's concept, architectural design, and staff service were all excellent. Because of this excellence, I sincerely hope it becomes a place I want to revisit again wholeheartedly. Please consider improving this aspect; if addressed, I will definitely return!

    Room and Public Bath Amenities

    The facilities and amenities were all well-chosen and excellent. However, the shampoo and other items in the public bath were different. It would have been even better if these were organic like those in the room. This was truly the only disappointing point. The service was perfect.

    I was able to refresh myself away from the city!

    We stayed at the long-awaited ento with our family of three, including a 0-year-old child, and it turned out to be a very satisfying trip. This Hotel, designed by Mount Fuji Architects, offers an ocean view from every angle, and you can even see the sea from the bath. Since we were staying with an infant, we contacted the Hotel in advance and they prepared diapers, wipes, a bottle sterilization rack, kettle, bouncer, bath chair for us. We felt secure on our first trip with a baby. The Room (NEST WA) we stayed in had tatami flooring so our baby enjoyed rolling around happily. Although dinner portions were not large, they featured unique Oki cuisine that was highly satisfying. The combination of Oki beef and koji soy sauce was especially excellent. On that day we participated in events like making silk screen postcards at the Hotel and learning about Oki's history which allowed us to spend memorable time amidst a leisurely flow of time. The Room as well as the staff at the Hotel along with island people and nature were all wonderful. We would love to visit again! *The public bath was under construction so it couldn't be used; hence I rated it 4 stars!

    The hotel business should soon graduate from relying on affluent customers and inbound tourism.

    A professor who was a colleague at university visited Ama Town, one of his activity bases, with four graduates and stayed for two nights at the long-awaited ENTO. Designed by a promising architect, the hotel design is simple and powerful, devoid of unnecessary decoration, as expected from an architect (meaning not an interior designer). The arrangement of openings maximizes the VIEW from the guest rooms, and the use of laminated wood is thoroughly considered from structure to finish, not just superficially, resulting in a sophisticated yet robust appearance. There is no doubt that it contributes to the charm of Ama Town. The hardware is impeccable, so if programs and excursions linked to the attractive culture and industry of Ama Town are created, in addition to food and geopark explanations, it could move from being the No.1 choice in the town to the ideal form of a hotel where "people visit the town because the hotel is there." Currently, in the hotel industry, the words "luxury market" and "inbound" are excessively thrown around as targets, which is tiresome, but despite the Accommodation Fee exceeding 50,000 yen, ENTO had many young guests. And it was fully booked. Do they not have money? They possess something more important than money: "sensitivity," "curiosity," and "information literacy" honed by social media.
