    Looking forward to what’s ahead

    We were satisfied with the hospitality, dinner and breakfast, and the programs after 5:00 PM. However, the route from the parking lot to the entrance felt like a back entrance; we would like it to be made more attractive (e.g., a natural brick approach) to build anticipation. We were also disappointed by the rough finish around the indoor molding and the bathroom exhaust fan. We hope to see improvements in overall coordination and quality going forward.

    A stylish, relaxing Hotel!

    I visited Nikko with my daughter in mid-June, and everything—from the lobby to the Room—showed great taste! The welcome drink, complimentary cocktail time, evening pickles, and both breakfast and dinner were all delicious, and we were truly satisfied. The staff were wonderful as well, and it was genuinely relaxing. During dinner, I also enjoyed chatting with a friendly designer, which made it a memorable trip. I was able to take my time enjoying the paintings displayed in the hallway, and I’d love to visit again in a different season. The loungewear being separated into top and bottom was very comfortable; if I had to mention one thing, it would have been even better if basic skincare items such as lotion had been provided.

    We’ve gained another fan.

    I fell ill and had to ask my brother’s family to go in my place. My nephew loves rice, and I have never seen him eat bread. However, dinner was bread-based, so they assumed he wouldn’t eat much. Instead, they said everything—the dishes and the bread—was delicious, and the three of them finished a meal meant for four. They also told me breakfast was truly wonderful. My brother and his wife, who are constantly worried about their son, said they had a very comfortable Hotel stay thanks to the excellent care from all the staff. Thank you very much for your kindness. Thank you as well for the get-well gift for me. June is both my birthday month and your Hotel’s celebration month, so I was disappointed that I couldn’t visit myself. I hope to visit again soon.

    This is the most memorable Hotel I’ve ever stayed at.

    As the title says, I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan, but I’ve never experienced a Hotel as memorable as this one. The staff were wonderful, and you can truly feel the attention to detail in the interior design and in every dish at dinner and breakfast. For the first time, I genuinely found myself saying, “Let’s come back again!” Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

    A beautifully design...

    A beautifully designed Hotel. Frames are scattered throughout, turning each moment into a painting. If you love art, this is a must-visit. Above all, the food is unbelievably delicious! I enjoyed a special time with carefully selected ingredients and drinks, served on thoughtfully chosen tableware. I’ll definitely be back!!!

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

    This was our first stay. We were able to relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and at dinner the DJ kindly found the songs we requested, making it a wonderful time. We also enjoyed chatting with the staff, who were very attentive and helpful in many ways. We would love to visit again for the delicious food.

    New Year's Stay

    The staff were all very pleasant and wonderful. The Room might have aspects that vary depending on personal preferences, but I personally loved the large window, which felt like a picture frame, allowing me to enjoy the view outside as if it were a painting. I understood that some mismatched elements in the interior seemed to indicate it was still a work in progress. Breakfast was Osechi (traditional Japanese New Year dishes), but my foreign husband couldn’t eat much of it, and since I had already eaten Osechi at home, I wished there had been bread instead... However, I think some guests would appreciate having Osechi for breakfast, so offering an option would be great!

    The Ultimate Staycation

    I stayed for one night and two days as a birthday gift to myself. As expected from a designer Hotel, the interior was very stylish with high ceilings, and I especially loved the large windows in the Room that offered breathtaking views of majestic mountains, making it very relaxing. I enjoyed reading while sipping coffee in the Room and had a wonderful staycation experience. I recommend checking in early to make the most of your time. The meals, whether French or Japanese-Western fusion, were absolutely delicious and exceptional. The staff were all friendly and helpful, providing recommendations for sightseeing spots which I greatly appreciated. The tea leaf souvenir was also a delightful touch. I would love to stay here again!

    A Fulfilling Experience in the Serene Forests of Nikko

    From the moment of check-in, I was captivated. The welcome time in a sophisticated space, reminiscent of a main dining area, with an original drink in hand, set the perfect tone for the start of our journey. Stepping into the Room, I was instantly charmed by the greenery visible through the large windows. Even though it was raining on our arrival day and the view was misty, its beauty still moved me deeply. The clawfoot bathtub, plush bed, and attention to detail in every aspect of the interior design created a comfortable yet relaxed atmosphere that felt just right. Dinner was exceptional—especially the pairing of bell pepper soup with bread left a lasting impression. When one staff member noticed that I don’t drink alcohol and quietly offered grape juice served in a wine glass instead, this thoughtful gesture truly embodied genuine hospitality. It wasn’t just about taste; it felt like every sense was being indulged within this space. Conversations with the owner were delightful—I found myself wishing we could talk more because it felt so pleasant and engaging. What stood out most to me though was how much my husband enjoyed himself as an audio enthusiast; seeing his peaceful smile made me feel incredibly happy as if all his hard work had been rewarded here. His connection to both your vision and sensibility left such an impression on me—it reminded us how powerful spaces and people can be together. We relaxed deeply in our Room where we slept soundly through each night before enjoying satisfying breakfasts each morning too! By checkout time came around again already thinking “I wish we could stay longer” surrounded by profound contentment throughout entire experience altogether! This isn’t something you’d find at ordinary Hotels—a place resonating deeply within senses offering delicious meals heartfelt care woven seamlessly everywhere creating unforgettable stays uniquely special indeed! Without question returning someday soon feels inevitable now!

    A meticulously designed and exceptionally relaxing Hotel

    Unlike major first-class Resort Hotels, our hotel offers a unique and personalized comfort. Surrounded by carefully selected furnishings such as intentionally creaky wooden floors and custom-made large doors, you will find yourself surprisingly relaxed. The staff were all very friendly and full of smiles. I would love to visit again in winter!

    It was an enjoyable stay.

    From the Shuttle Service to the end of our stay, we had a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. The meals were delicious, and above all, the service and attentiveness of all the staff were exceptional. It was clear that a lot of thought and effort went into providing such excellent service. We especially enjoyed unique experiences not found in other Hotels or Ryokans, such as conversations with staff during meals and music that created a delightful atmosphere. The Room had large windows offering beautiful views of greenery, which left us in awe upon entering. The king-sized bed was incredibly spacious and comfortable! We would love to stay here again when visiting Nikko. Thank you very much!

    The best Hotel I have ever stayed at.

    This was my first stay, and I could feel the thoughtfulness and care put into everything from the meals to the drinks and even the Room itself. I had a chance to speak with the designer, which added a unique touch to my experience. The food was exceptional, especially the vegetables and rice, which brought out their natural sweetness perfectly—truly satisfying. The pickles available in the lounge were also outstanding, with rich flavor, a hint of sweetness, and an excellent crunchy texture. For amenities, it would be helpful if skincare products for women were provided or made available for purchase. The bed was top-notch in quality, and the Room was so comfortable that it was hard to leave—it felt like a perfect retreat. This is definitely a Hotel I would love to stay at again!

    The best Hotel!

    I chose this Shelter Garden in Tochigi through IKYU.com to create the best birthday memories. Beforehand, I searched on TikTok to learn about the Hotel. I discovered that it offers great views, clawfoot bathtubs, and delicious meals, which made me look forward to my stay. Upon entering the Room, there was a large window right in front of me! From there, I could see mountains and a river. On the first day, it was foggy and hard to see clearly, but on the second day, it was sunny with beautiful views. The greenery of the mountains was stunningly beautiful. The flow of the river was visible and almost audible as well. I also appreciated how staff kindly informed me about sunrise/sunset times and star positions. The view from the large window could be enjoyed not only from the bed but also from the clawfoot bathtub. Adjusting water temperature myself or stopping it manually added a bit of fun to my experience with this bathtub! I took baths twice—at night and in the morning! Amenities were well-prepared with everything from makeup remover to lotion available. There were even two types of bath salts provided. For meals, I ordered both dinner and breakfast. During dinner time, there was a DJ playing wonderful music while we dined; requests were also accepted! Unique dishes like meat served on tree stumps or bread paired perfectly with each menu item offered an unforgettable dining experience for me. Breakfast included both bread and rice options for variety—I got to enjoy many delicious local foods from Nikko. The staff helped carry my luggage, took photos for me when asked politely—and their attentiveness made my 1-night stay truly enjoyable. I even had conversations directly w/ designers involved—it felt special!! Next time around—I’d love bringing family/friends along here too someday soon… Thank you so much again!!

    The location, scenery, guest rooms, meals, and even the staff uniforms reflect the designer's dedication and aesthetics. I was deeply impressed as it was my first time staying at such a meticulously designed accommodation. Thank you for allowing me to speak directly with the designer. I often choose accommodations based on their meals, and both dinner and breakfast exceeded my expectations. The three types of bread served with dinner were thoughtfully selected to match the menu, and the main meat dish was especially delicious. Breakfast offered a delightful mix of Japanese and Western styles using local ingredients from Nikko. I heard there are tours available on clear nights to enjoy stargazing. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't favorable during my stay, but I would love to visit again during a season when the stars are visible. Thank you very much!

Upon arrival, the staff kindly shared that this location itself is a power spot. They provided detailed and helpful information about experiences available at the accommodation, nearby sightseeing spots, and even advised purchasing tickets for Toshogu Shrine in advance. During the Sunset Evening Hour from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, I enjoyed two types of non-alcoholic cocktails. Both were sophisticated in flavor, and the interaction with the staff who served them was so pleasant that it felt like I was already benefiting from this power spot's energy. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious; I was especially impressed by the rich flavor of Nasu Highland Wagyu beef. As someone who rarely finishes breakfast, I surprised myself by eating every bite! The bagna cauda sauce was absolutely delightful! At dinner, I also enjoyed conversations with staff members and designers while listening to music I had requested—a truly comfortable moment. The dedication of all staff members to make my stay special could be felt throughout my visit; their heartfelt hospitality left a lasting impression on me. This accommodation offers a unique "shelter-like" atmosphere that prioritizes harmony with nature over typical luxury hotel experiences. My stay here became an invaluable opportunity to forget daily life and fully relax in both body and soul.

    Recently, I stayed at this accommodation with my mother and brother. It was a unique type of hotel that I had never experienced before, yet it offered a calming and wonderful atmosphere. What left the strongest impression was the hospitality of the staff. They remembered even casual conversations we had and showed incredible attention to detail, which deeply moved us. For instance, when we mentioned our plans for sightseeing in Nikko the next day, a knowledgeable staff member prepared recommended routes and maps for us—truly exceptional service. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. The free drinks available in the lounge during certain times were varied and tasty, allowing us to enjoy quality family time together. During dinner, themed music played by a DJ added to the ambiance beautifully. They even took song requests from us, creating memorable moments that we could share as a family. The room was stylish with an amazing view. The large windows allowed us to enjoy picturesque scenery as if it were framed art. It was my first time experiencing a clawfoot bathtub—it felt luxurious and provided such comfort that it seemed like being gently embraced all over. The bed was incredibly comfortable as well, and thanks to high-quality pajamas provided by the accommodation, I enjoyed truly restful sleep. During our stay, we had the chance to meet one of this hotel's designers—a rare opportunity since they are not always present on-site. Listening to their stories about the hotel made for an invaluable experience; connecting with their vision deepened our appreciation for this place even more.     It was excellent.

    I stayed here for my boyfriend's birthday. The lounge offered sparkling wine while explaining the accommodation and the hotel's unique features. The manager's attentiveness was exceptional, providing service that exceeded the price. It truly made us feel special. Additionally, the pickles offered for free in the lounge for one hour at night were incredibly delicious. The female staff explained everything warmly with a kind voice and smile, creating an unforgettable memory. As a pickle lover, I would come back just for that! The Hakushu whiskey served alongside was also delightful. There were no issues with compatibility of skincare products or shampoos provided, and amenities like a heater in the bathroom made it very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as well—especially the rice and dried baby sardines. If I had to point out something concerning, it would be that choosing a room with only a shower felt like a mistake on my part. There was an incident where a stink bug happened to be in the shower booth, causing an unpleasant odor for several minutes (laughs). Also, regarding room service pizza (2,500 yen), it only had cheese as topping and was thin and hard. While I can't comment on other dishes, this left me feeling they might not meet expectations. I'll definitely visit again! Thank you so much!

    I see. Truly, a shelter garden!

    It was a wonderful experience where I could feel the high hospitality and the philosophy of the Property! I usually don't write Reviews unless I'm really moved, but I wanted to convey my impression. The location overlooking Nikko's primeval forest and streams is wonderful, and all the staff have very high hospitality. With a lovely Room, delicious food, wonderful music, and extremely high cost performance, I feel that everyone would rate this Property highly. However, personally, I think there is another level of impression at this Property. As indicated by its name "Sanctuary," it was an experience where you can feel your soul or consciousness being healed and purified. By experiencing the philosophy and design of designer Mr. Toyama(Toyama), as well as feeling the Facility, food, hospitality, and music again deeply impressed me with the greatness of this Property. Rather than "luxuriousness or grandeur" in terms of Facilities or ingredients, I felt everything was "designed" to lead one to an opportunity for deep "introspection," feeling "nature" in contrast to artificiality. If you read deeply into the message of this Property, some people may spend time not just lightly touching nature but feeling "life or universe"! Even if introspection doesn't go that deep, considering its price point offers excellent value for money in every scene. Before it becomes too popular and difficult to make a Reservation, I definitely want to stay again.

    Memories

    I made a reservation to see the autumn leaves in Nikko. It seems to be about three weeks late due to the hot summer, but it was a very quiet property in the mountains with beautiful greenery. In the evening, you can request songs with memories while enjoying your meal. Since I hadn't researched in advance, I quickly thought of a request. Mr. Tomiyama, who is both a DJ and the hotel's designer, kindly came to our table to chat, saying it was a perfect match. It was impressive to see videos projected on the screen along with the music. I highly recommend this hotel with such a great idea. The room surrounded by trees and the comfortable Sealy bed were excellent.

    I felt it was a waste.

    The staff's sincerity and dedication were evident, but their professional demeanor was somewhat lacking. The attention to detail in the interior design was not apparent without reading the story behind it. It felt like a wonderful concept that wasn't fully realized. The balance between service and price was not very good.

    Gap with the image photos

    I was surprised by the gap between the photos and reality. There were some good points, such as the friendly staff. However, I was informed that the building was still under construction, and this was evident in various inconvenient aspects of the guest room. The unique sink caused water to splash when washing my face. The light switches were confusing and difficult to use. The closet, among other things, was also problematic. For dinner, it would be better if rice could be chosen as well as bread.

    I stayed for three n...

    I stayed for three nights. I was very satisfied, and it helped me relieve my daily stress and refresh myself. Unfortunately, the weather was bad for all three nights, so I couldn't see the starry sky, which was a pity. I also had the opportunity to hear some profound stories from the owner (designer). The place that my spouse and I particularly liked was the staircase room, which was lovely. If I had to point out something, it would be that I was concerned about getting the floor wet between the clawfoot bathtub and the shower room, so I was careful not to wet the wooden floor when moving. I am considering using it again.

    It was a very nice trip.

    We stayed with our children. The pick-up service from the station was very courteous, and the welcome drink and room transfer upon arrival were very smooth. We were deeply impressed as a family by the delicious meals that made the most of the ingredients and the detailed and homely hospitality in a wonderful space that blended with nature. It was very comfortable. We also had a conversation with the designer, who provided warm hospitality by playing enjoyable music based on our children's requests to make our time at the hotel enjoyable and memorable.

    This is a hotel meticulously designed by a designer. Meeting the person who picked us up at the station (who was inexplicably in traditional Japanese attire, but we understood why later) and heading to the hotel was a bit nerve-wracking, making us wonder if we were really going to a hotel. However, upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed, which lifted our spirits. The ceiling of the dining lounge is incredibly high, and with its woody atmosphere, it feels like being in a European highland resort, offering a sense of openness and luxury. The view from the large windows in the room was truly resort-like, with a great view of the sky. Although it was described as a "river view," the river wasn't very large, so it felt more like enjoying the overall mountain atmosphere. Despite the garden being in a great location, perhaps due to the climate, I felt the vegetation and furnishings were not well-balanced. The interior also showcased the designer's thorough attention to detail, yet it was functional and comfortable to stay in. This might be a bit of a spoiler, but the washbasin made from a single slab of wood is worth seeing. Spending time in the room, just looking at the sky and outside, was enjoyable, and I didn't turn on the TV even once during my stay. The evening cocktail time before dinner was a delightful service for someone like me who enjoys drinking. I ended up drinking a bit too much during the meal as well. The food was delicious, and I quite liked the dinner cutlery. There was also sparkling wine available at breakfast. Some people might find it odd to have both bread and rice served simultaneously at breakfast (though I enjoyed both). The pickles, bread, eggs, and other items were delicious. I even had a second helping of rice. The hallmark of this hotel is the attentiveness of the staff. They engage in various conversations during meals and at other times, and if your glass is empty, they promptly offer something else. The designer, who happened to be there, kindly shared various details about the hotel's design. It's a hotel where you feel valued as a guest. This might be my personal impression, but I feel it's a masterpiece created by locals as an antithesis to the popular large resort chains these days. Although there is no hot spring, I left the hotel with a satisfaction that surpassed that. Thank you very much.

    The staff were kind and I was able to relax. Good points: - Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and my child enjoyed eating them. The vegetables were very tasty! - The lounge was a calming space that we enjoyed both at night and in the morning. - The clawfoot bathtub was much more comfortable than I had imagined. I ended up using it four times in one night. - The space outside the lounge where you can feel nature is truly luxurious. You can feel the mountains and river up close! - The staff were very kind! A bit disappointing points: - It seems that the design is intentionally distorted to create a relaxed space, but when draining the bathtub, water leaked from below, making the floor soaking wet, which was a bit troublesome. - There was a spider web in the corner of the wall with the sofa, and when opening and closing the curtains by the window, there were mites (no actual harm). I understand it's in the mountains and there are many wooden materials, but I wish there were more measures or guidance. - When I entered the room and moved the mini table, I found coffee beans on the floor, which made me wonder if the cleaning was thorough. I hope more attention is paid to such details. Overall, it was very good, and I look forward to improvements in these areas. I would like to stay again when traveling to the Nikko area.

    This is an accommodation I would like to stay at again.

    All the staff were very warm and welcoming, and I learned a lot about the hotel from the person who designed it. From the moment I was picked up to the time I stayed, I was in a great mood. The food was very delicious, the selection of drinks was excellent, and the room was comfortable. I would love to visit again soon.
