The meals and service were good, but the condition of the guest room was disappointing.

The entrance and lobby were clean and well maintained. We were told that slippers are not used inside the building and that guests should walk around in the provided socks, which was a bit confusing at first. When I arrived on the guest Room floor and the elevator doors opened, I noticed a musty smell like mold and an unpleasant odor. The same smell was also present in the Room, and it bothered me at night so I couldn’t sleep well. In addition, there were insects and debris floating in the open-air bath in the guest Room, so I did not use it. The large public baths are located separately on the 2nd and 4th floors, but there was a notice saying monkeys may appear at the open-air bath on the 4th floor, so I was too scared to go in. The food was very delicious, and the staff member in charge was kind, but I felt disappointed about the other points.

The Facility was spacious, and we didn’t need slippers. It was thoughtfully designed and easy for my elderly parents with weak legs and hips to use. The meals were beautifully presented with gentle flavors, and we were very satisfied. Thank you very much.

A one-night stay with breakfast only is fine.

It’s a slightly old Ryokan, but it was good. We stayed with grandparents, a young couple, and three children. We found this Ryokan mainly as a place to stay overnight on our way back from a memorial service. The bath is alkaline spring water, and the women in our group—including my wife—praised it highly. Also, the breakfast was more substantial than expected for the price. Recommended.

    Exceptional hospitality

Despite the inconvenience, you kindly provided Shuttle Service for one member of our family. Thank you as well for preparing such a wonderful Room for us. Both breakfast and dinner were carefully prepared and delicious. Thank you to the proprietress and all the staff for your kindness. We would love to stay again.

    A quiet, relaxing Ryokan

All staff (including those from overseas) were kind, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was also very delicious, though it was more than an elderly person could finish. It may depend on the Room, but one disappointing point was that the sink in the Room we used was small. There was also an in-room bath, but we did not use it because the Facility seemed old. Overall, it was a satisfying Accommodation.

    I was disappointed.

During my previous stay, the cuisine was amazing and left a great impression, but this time it was completely different. The dishes served were all dried out by the time they arrived. When I mentioned this to the staff, they said, "It's because you came late." The open-air bath in the room felt a bit unsafe. However, the bedroom was comfortable.

It was a great Onsen accommodation.

The large public bath and open-air Onsen were excellent. This Ryokan has its own hot spring source, with slightly thick water that left my skin smooth and moisturized. The Room's private bath was also an Onsen, and I enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor baths multiple times. The view of the autumn foliage in the surrounding mountains was stunning. I chose a breakfast-only Plan, and the rice was so delicious that I had seconds. The service was not overly attentive but thoughtful, allowing me to relax comfortably. The staff greeted us warmly, making for a pleasant stay. Unlike flashy areas like Atami or Hakone, this place offers reasonable rates while providing exceptional Onsen quality that I truly loved. I would definitely like to visit again!

A Trip with Your First Grandchild

We decided to take a sudden trip to Hakone with my son's family and found accommodation at Zuiho for the night. The check-in process was hotel-style, where we received a brief explanation in the lobby, were handed the key, and then went to the room ourselves. Upon entering the room, there was a noticeable musty smell. The private open-air bath in the room had a handrail for getting into the tub, but since it sloped inside, I slipped and had a dangerous experience. The next morning when I tried to use it again, the water had cooled down and was unusable. The refrigerator in the room only contained two bottles of water, so we had to go down to the vending machine on the first floor for anything else—this was inconvenient. The air conditioning system could not be used simultaneously in both the bedroom and living area of our room. Additionally, we couldn't watch BS channels on TV in our room. On a positive note, meals were excellent; everything tasted delicious though portions seemed more suited for younger guests. They provided us with a high chair for our toddler; however, when we pointed out that its screws were loose or missing entirely, their response was that it would still be fine—which raised concerns as this is related to safety issues. Considering that this was an impromptu reservation yet came at quite a cost overall—it left us feeling disappointed about certain aspects of our stay.

    Classic Showa Era Onsen Accommodation

A charming Onsen accommodation with a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere in the best way. Warm hospitality with tea and sweets upon arrival, thoughtfully prepared amenities in the room, and a traditional Japanese breakfast instead of a buffet. While the soundproofing of room doors and some remodeled bath structures reflect the building's age, it offers a comforting sense of nostalgia for those from our generation. It may not be a luxury Ryokan, but it exudes gentle warmth reminiscent of Showa times. During dinner, we noticed staff training new members, which was endearing to see. A delightful stay where you can enjoy the nostalgic charm of Showa-era Japan. Thank you very much!

    Relax and unwind.

We chose a room with an Onsen. Although we hesitated at first because of some fallen leaves floating in the water, our child was thrilled and enjoyed the bath. At night, we had a relaxing couple's time, which was wonderful. The large public bath offered unlimited towels, which we could also use in the room—this was really helpful. The meals included Ise lobster and abalone! We were so excited! Our son has allergies, but they kindly adjusted our menu to be allergy-free for him—it was such a relief! However, since the photo showed grilled abalone as an image example, we went there expecting to have grilled abalone... so that part was a bit disappointing. That said, all the food tasted amazing! Additionally, the staff member who served us was lovely and made dining enjoyable. Since our child is small and we didn’t have time to take photos during dinner, they kindly took one for us afterward—thank you so much for that; it made us very happy!

The renovated Room was clean, and the service was attentive, making our stay very pleasant during the latter half of Golden Week! Above all, the food was absolutely delicious!! The portions were generous, and the presentation was beautiful. We stayed in a private room with an open-air bath but also made good use of the clean public bath. It was our first time at this Ryokan, and we were extremely satisfied. We definitely plan to visit again.

    I had a pleasant stay.

The sparkling wine upon arrival and the check-in while enjoying the view from the lobby were delightful. The staff were pleasant, and we enjoyed meals featuring lobster and abalone. The bath temperature preferences vary, but while the 2nd-floor bath was a bit hot, the open-air bath on the 4th floor in the morning was relaxing with birds chirping in the background. The room's sink area felt slightly narrow, and it would have been nice if face towels were made of softer material. The dining area was spacious and bright, making for a comfortable experience. Thank you very much! (Despite mixed reviews, we had a great time.)

A Business Hotel Dressed as a Luxury Ryokan

There was no sense of Japanese hospitality at all. No greeting upon arrival, no assistance with luggage to the Room. Meals were pre-made and served cold. The price is top-class, but the service is third-rate. I deeply regret choosing this place. Although I hate recalling it, I wrote this to prevent others from having the same experience.

For rejuvenation and to express gratitude to my husband.

This was my first visit to Yugawara, though I had been to Atami several times. After visiting the plum grove, shrine, and waterfall, we arrived at the accommodation before 3 PM. Although it was early, our room was ready, so we were able to check in right away. Perhaps due to leaving home early in the morning or overeating at lunch, I felt unwell before dinner and couldn't fully enjoy the wonderful meal, which was unfortunate. The baths on the 2nd and 4th floors offered a variety of options and were enjoyable. The room had a semi-open-air hinoki bath where we could relax with Onsen even in our room. This trip was a gift for my husband as a token of appreciation, and seeing how happy he was made me very satisfied as well. The staff were kind—thank you very much! The candy gift after checkout made for a delicious treat on our way home.

    I had high expectations.

I decided on this accommodation after much deliberation, considering the reviews and the availability of shuttle service from the station as I wanted to bring my elderly parents. First, I wonder why the large bath on the second floor is designed that way. The washing area and the main bath are separate. The washing area was too cold to even wash properly. Due to the extreme cold, I quickly went into the hot water but was shocked by such a design in an accommodation. People visit an onsen to relax and heal their fatigue slowly. The open-air bath on the fourth floor was enjoyable in the morning, but I was very concerned about hygiene as there were floating impurities in the indoor bath, making it murky. The meals were tasty; however, they felt pre-prepared with no sense of seasonal ingredients. All staff members seemed to be foreign nationals acting merely as servers, so there wasn’t any opportunity for engaging conversations about food ingredients, which was disappointing. At checkout, a foreign staff member handled it without explaining any charges despite prior payment through IKYU.com. Meanwhile, Japanese staff at reception sat silently working on their computers without even saying "thank you," which left me feeling very uncomfortable. The lack of staff also raised concerns about safety in case of emergencies since there were no explanations regarding emergency exits either. Although this accommodation has many positive reviews online, unfortunately for me it did not match its price point at all. I hope this review serves as a reference for those considering staying here in future!

I was worried about bringing my elderly mother, but the staff were very considerate and attentive. Although she usually doesn't like fish, she ended up eating quite a bit and said it was delicious. Everyone seemed to enjoy their work, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you very much!

A wonderful accommodation with the best bath and attentive hospitality

One-night, two-day stay with dinner and breakfast included. Utilized the free shuttle service from the station. Enjoyed a welcome drink during check-in. The room was spacious and clean. Below are impressions of the bath and meals. **Bath** The baths on the 2nd and 4th floors alternate between men and women in the morning and evening. The 2nd floor features an indoor hinoki cypress bath, as well as an outdoor jacuzzi rock bath. The 4th floor offers a stone indoor bath, along with a spacious open-air bath and sauna outside. All baths have excellent water quality. I had heard that Yugawara's hot springs are particularly good, but everything about it—the smoothness of the water, temperature, volume, aroma—was outstanding. The open-air bath on the 4th floor is especially remarkable for its view; you can enjoy soaking while admiring Yugawara's mountain scenery or gazing at the moon and stars at night—truly wonderful! On the 2nd floor, you can immerse yourself in plenty of soft hinoki-scented water for an incredibly relaxing experience. The outdoor jacuzzi rock bath accommodates about two people but offers fresh air while soaking—a nice touch. Shower facilities and hairdryers were highly functional and comfortable to use. **Meals** *Dinner* We opted for a course meal with additional kinmedai (golden eye snapper) shabu-shabu. Every appetizer was delicious; among them, scallops stood out in freshness among sashimi selections. The kinmedai shabu-shabu was exquisite—so fresh it could be eaten raw—with rich flavor from its fatty texture. Ise lobster grilled with grated daikon radish sauce ("mizore-yaki") alongside braided grilled cutlassfish ("tazuna-yaki") were also exceptional dishes: Mizore-yaki featured plump lobster cooked together w/ aromatic vegetables like sansho pepper & onion; Tazuna-yaki showcased tender yet crispy-skinned fish artistry woven beautifully resembling braids delivering both taste-texture balance perfectly! Abalone fried using brown rice batter served marinated afterward offered unique chewy delight too! Rice paired alongside simmered Kinme-dai further elevated dining pleasure thanks premium Koshihikari grains cooked precisely achieving ideal fluffiness-stickiness-aroma harmony alike! *Breakfast* Rice again stole spotlight here being equally flawless compared prior dinner servings presented inside traditional wooden container allowing unlimited refills (miso soup likewise refillable). Grilled Aji fish meanwhile delivered fragrant crisp exterior coupled moist interior textures whilst Sakura shrimp burdock hotpot egg-drop style preparation rounded things off splendidly overall culinary-wise! Staff attentiveness cleanliness throughout premises exceeded expectations ensuring memorable enjoyable stay altogether hence confidently recommendable destination indeed!!

    Very satisfied.

Since it was a night check-in, I stayed for one night with breakfast included. The check-in was smooth, and there was a welcome drink with a choice of sparkling wine and snacks! There are also free drinks like coffee in the lobby. The room was clean, and although I was worried due to various reviews about the air conditioning and the open-air bath attached to the room, there was no need to worry, and I enjoyed a wonderful room life. The open-air bath in the room was hot, and despite the cold at the end of January, it warmed my body to the core. In the private garden viewed from the bath, there was an early-blooming red plum blossom. If you stay in February, you can enjoy the vast mountains and plum blossoms in full bloom. The large baths on the 2nd and 4th floors have a gender-swapping system, so you can enjoy both. The 2nd floor has a women's powder room where you can leisurely enjoy nail and facial care cosmetics. You can select your favorite shampoo from many options, and you can choose as many types as you like, which is fun. There are also free bite-sized ice creams and fruit water. Breakfast is luxurious! You can have as many refills of drinks, rice, and miso soup as you like. Everyone at the front desk and restaurant is very kind, and the service is excellent. It was a fulfilling one-night, two-day stay. Room 301 Gubijinsou (Gubijinsou) Usage

    It was a musty-smelling Room.

We used the hotel for the first time with my son and his wife, booking 2 rooms for 4 people. We mistakenly reserved a plan without dinner, so we only had breakfast. The hotel's exterior was quite old and concerning, but the interior was generally clean despite some worn areas. The service was polite and satisfactory. The room was spacious with a separate bedroom and living area, featuring an open-air jacuzzi and a cypress indoor bath, both with onsen water of excellent quality. However, unfortunately, the room we stayed in, Room 410, had a very strong moldy smell. The sheets and pillows in the bedroom all smelled of mold, which was unpleasant. My son and his wife's room did not have any moldy smell and was normal, but our room's moldy odor was so overwhelming that it even clung to our clothes and luggage. Furthermore, the jacuzzi in the open-air bath turned cold by morning. We couldn't add hot water, so we couldn't use the open-air bath in the morning. My son and his wife's room had a hot jacuzzi in the morning, so it seems only our room was malfunctioning. I believe Room 410 needs maintenance for the open-air bath and something should be done about the room's smell. It's too sad that we have to pay the same amount despite the significant difference from the neighboring room. Thank you.

Great view, great Onsen, great food.

I stayed in late October. The weather was nice and the climate was warm. Inside the property, you can relax barefoot after taking off your shoes. The front desk and lounge are directly in front of the entrance, where you check in. The view of the Hakone mountain range from the lounge is like a large painting, and I was able to spend a blissful time while enjoying a welcome drink. I recommend checking in before it gets dark. The kind explanation of the property by the front desk staff gave me a good understanding of most things. The room was a pure Japanese-style room on the 6th floor, and the view of the mountains from there was also spectacular. Just gazing at it was soothing. The onsen, as expected from Yugawara Onsen, has an excellent quality of water. It might be suitable for those who like hotter water temperatures. I prefer to take a short dip in slightly hotter onsen, and it was perfect. I was also pleased that the large public bath for the evening and morning alternates between men and women. The dinner was a Japanese kaiseki meal, which was just right for me. Above all, the rice was delicious. There were many foreign staff members, but they all worked hard to serve in Japanese. They always brought the food with a smile, which made me smile back. The breakfast was also a Japanese set meal, with a sufficient amount and delicious. The rice was so good that I had seconds. It was a very enjoyable trip. Thank you very much.

    The staff is excellent.

Above all, the staff here. Their very dedicated service and smiles were very good. The Japanese woman and probably the Indian man were especially excellent. The meals were so plentiful that we couldn't finish them, and we were treated to luxury. Some dishes were a bit too elaborate and disappointing, but overall they were delicious. The Property itself seems to be a renovated old Ryokan, and there were remnants of the past here and there, which was a bit disappointing, but the Room was spacious and comfortable. Especially the bath on the second floor had a separate washing area, which was very cold, and the place with the bathtub seemed to have been a washing area before, which felt a bit odd. However, I appreciated the thoughtful touch of being able to use my favorite brand of shampoo and conditioner by taking them in a paper cup. The bath on the fourth floor had an open-air bath, which was atmospheric and nice, but the previous rock bath was closed and not cleaned, giving a neglected impression, and I felt sorry thinking they might be understaffed. The hot water was smooth and warmed us well. It was good hot water. After all, the staff here are treasures. Thank you to all the kind-hearted staff. Thank you for taking care of us.

Finally, I was able to stay!

The day of our stay was unfortunately rainy, but I was finally able to visit Zuiyo. The scenery was rainy and misty, but it had a certain charm, and being on a hill, the view was actually great. The lounge was a comfortable space where we could relax for a long time. Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious and creatively prepared, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. The bath was at a temperature that was good for the body, with standing baths and a sauna, which we used many times. Next time, I would like to visit on a sunny day to see a different kind of charm. Thank you to all the staff.

Perfect accommodation for a girls' night out

The staff were all smiling and provided a courteous yet friendly service, allowing us to have a pleasant experience from check-in to meal times. Although it was a Friday stay, there were few guests, and we could enjoy the baths privately both at night and in the morning. The changing room and powder room on the second floor were clean, and the small ice cream was a nice touch. The meals were not large in quantity, but there were many dishes, and the presentation was beautiful, making it appealing to women.
