    The Power of Sharing Information

    At the bar in the evening, I thought I had ordered a Basque cheesecake, but a regular cheesecake arrived instead. When I looked confused, they promptly prepared a Basque cheesecake for me, which made me very happy. Also, it seems whipped cream is not included on the current menu; when we talked about it, they later added it for me. They mentioned that matcha Basque cheesecake is also available at breakfast, and the next morning at breakfast the staff told me that matcha Basque cheesecake was available over there. I felt their information sharing was thorough.

    Excellent!

    The welcome lobby and courtyard greeted us warmly, and the room was spacious—absolutely wonderful! The thermal spring spa was innovative and truly refreshing. The breakfast was especially delicious!

    I stayed here twice ...

    I stayed here twice a few years ago, and I was truly happy to be able to return after a long time. All of the staff were genuinely pleasant, and I had a very relaxing stay. In particular, thank you to Mr./Ms. H (I’m using an initial as I’m not sure if it’s okay to share the name) who assisted with my check-in. One thing only: I used FORNI for both dinner and breakfast. At dinner, my meat was upgraded, but I wasn’t asked about my preferred doneness. At breakfast, we were told it would be a choice of main dish plus a semi-buffet, but later we were informed that choosing the Japanese set would not include the semi-buffet, which was a bit disappointing. Even so, this is truly a wonderful Hotel. I look forward to visiting again.

    Satisfied with my stay after a long time

    I visit every year for the spa treatments, but it had been a while since my last stay. This was my fourth time staying, and the Hotel kindly upgraded us to a suite. Unfortunately, because it was on the second floor, opening the window felt very close to the public road and fully visible to passersby, so we couldn’t open the curtains much. However, the Room was spacious and comfortable. Since it was a suite, we also tried in-room dining, and it was very delicious. The Hotel service, thermal springs, and spa treatments were as wonderful as ever—calm and with an adult atmosphere. For us, who dislike crowds or unnecessary interference from others, it was stress-free, relaxing, and very satisfying. We would like to stay again in the future.

    My husband was unabl...

    My husband was unable to come, so it ended up being a stay for me and my two children. However, we were told that we could not receive the benefits unless my husband, who is a Diamond member, was staying with us. I understand that this may be the rule, but we were asked to confirm this repeatedly in front of my children, which made us feel uncomfortable. As this is a five-star Hotel, I hope for more considerate service that avoids making guests feel uneasy.

    A Hotel catering to international guests. Considering the price, the service quality is somewhat disappointing.

    I stayed in a Room that cost about JPY 150,000 per person. The Hotel atmosphere—such as the courtyard and the Room interior—was very nice. However, perhaps my expectations were too high, but honestly I was disappointed. For the high price, I didn’t feel much hospitality in the service. More than 90% of the other guests were foreigners. It felt like a pricing structure aimed at inbound tourism. I wouldn’t recommend it to those who expect service that matches the price.

    It was comfortable.

    The building and garden are wonderful, and the Room is thoughtfully designed, making it feel more like staying in an apartment than a Hotel. The food was delicious, and at the restaurant across the garden they set up a tatami seating area, where we enjoyed a very Kyoto-style surprise: dining while catching glimpses of a geiko’s dance. One disappointment—though not the Hotel’s fault—was that some overseas guests at the restaurant behaved inappropriately, perhaps because they let their guard down.

    Make the most of your stay at Hotel The Mitsui

    This was my first stay. I had been curious about this Hotel ever since I found it online. Although I heard it is relatively new for a Kyoto Hotel, its refined architectural design created a calm and relaxing atmosphere. For the spa within the Facility, you wear rental swimwear. I really appreciated that rentals are available. As I visited during a quiet time, I was able to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. For dinner, we had a course meal at Toki on the property, and each dish felt like a perfect marriage of French cuisine and Kyoto flavors. In particular, their signature fond (dashi) was so delicious that it left me wanting to drink more—an incredibly enticing taste. For this stay’s Plan, we chose a Room with a view of Nijo Castle. The nighttime illumination allowed us to enjoy the majestic Nijo Castle, which was wonderful. It was such an enjoyable stay that I would love to return.

    A Hotel for international guests?

    This is a Hotel frequently featured in travel magazines and the media. The Accommodation Fee is also among the highest in Kyoto Hotels. I’d always thought “someday,” but the price was a hurdle… Perhaps because of that Prime Minister’s remark? Or maybe it was simply off-season winter pricing in Kyoto—I’m not sure, but it came within a range even I could afford, so I tried staying for one night. The dignified Japanese-modern architecture, with trees placed around the grounds, evokes the designs of Mr. Isoya Yoshida, and the Kajii-no-miya Gate adds an even greater sense of prestige. Unfortunately, I felt that the neighboring Hotel visible next door detracts from this beautiful scenery. Inside, it was extremely quiet, and time passed slowly and elegantly. The staff service is also worthy of a top-tier Hotel. It was a shame that the courtyard—the Hotel’s biggest highlight—felt sparse in winter; I imagine it must be wonderful in spring, summer, and autumn with all kinds of trees. The Room was also spacious and comfortable. Since mine was a standard first-floor Room on the Nijo Castle side, the view wasn’t great. Are the Rooms with views like those in the promotional video suites? I also visited the thermal spring downstairs—it was a bit cold. I’d like them to raise the temperature slightly. The impressive marble bathtub in my Room filled quickly, but when my body touched it, it felt so cold it made me shiver, so I couldn’t relax and soak for long. Dinner at the restaurant as well as breakfast were both delicious. Overall, my impression is that this is a Hotel for inbound travelers where you can fully experience “Kyoto-ness.”

    We were satisfied with the thermal springs and Toki.

    I’m glad I was able to stay at a great price during the limited-time sale. As expected from Mitsui’s top-tier Hotel brand, the building and the Room were excellent. I was especially satisfied with the delicious Thermal Spring experience and Toki dinner. However, it was disappointing that you can no longer enjoy buffet items with the Japanese breakfast, which seemed to be available before.

    Interdental floss is

    The Room and Facility were very satisfying. However, when I filled the bathtub with water, a used dental floss from the previous guest floated up, which was unpleasant. When I asked about lotion at the Hotel, they mentioned that most guests bring their own but kindly provided me with some amenities. I apologized for not bringing my own!

    The thermal spring was very relaxing! The temperature was just right, and I felt like I could stay in it forever. However, I noticed some guests might not have showered before entering, which was a bit concerning. It would be helpful if the reception could provide guidance about showering beforehand. As for the Facility, the shower was very convenient to use with just one button. The breakfast was also delicious! I also tried the afternoon tea, but despite it being tea-free, there were times when no staff were visible, and I had to wait over 10 minutes without a drink. Additionally, even when my glass was empty, the staff didn’t seem to notice, and I had to call out to them several times to get the next drink. That was a bit disappointing.

    A luxurious Hotel with a nostalgic and soothing atmosphere.

    The first thing that caught my eye was the stunning weeping cherry tree and charming moss ball. Despite being a luxury Hotel, it offered a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. The Room was very calming, and I was thoroughly impressed by the warm hospitality of the staff. The thermal spring allowed us to experience a world that felt like another dimension together. I was also amazed by the comfort of the pajamas. Next time, I would love to try the guided tour within the Hotel.

    Wonderful Hotel Life

    Although it was just a one-day stay, we were able to fully enjoy the Hotel life thanks to the early check-in. The staff's warm greetings were pleasant, and we felt rejuvenated at the thermal spring. From our Room with a Nijo Castle view, we enjoyed watching the castle and sky bathed in sunset colors, forgetting about the heat outside. The bed was so comfortable that we woke up feeling refreshed in the morning.

    For a regular stay, this accommodation would receive a near-perfect 5-star rating. However, as this was a birthday celebration stay, there were some disappointments that lowered the overall satisfaction. The only acknowledgment of the birthday was a card left in the room. Despite using various facilities such as the café right after check-in, the restaurant for dinner, the pool, and breakfast the next morning, there was no recognition of it being a special occasion. At other accommodations of similar class in the past, staff members have offered congratulatory words or gestures like an anniversary dessert plate at dinner or special table settings with flowers at breakfast to make guests feel celebrated. This time, I believe I only received verbal congratulations during check-in. It was disappointing and made me wonder if this approach is part of their policy. Other than that aspect, there were no major complaints. The room and all areas within the facility exuded calm elegance and were very comfortable. The art tour was enjoyable as well. Walking through their garden again in the morning revealed thoughtful designs that made even its small size engaging with changing views and paths to explore. The staff overall were kind and attentive. A particular male staff member who served us during dinner stood out for his excellent service despite managing multiple tables; he provided clear explanations about dishes while also engaging in light conversation that made our evening delightful—thank you! One minor issue occurred at lunchtime in the café where two young staff members cleared dishes too quickly. While removing empty cake plates is understandable, they attempted to take away teapots and cups still containing tea without asking first. Even if they had been empty, it would have been nice to savor some lingering moments over tea without feeling rushed out of our experience!

    Weekend Retreat

    I don't think we've stayed for 20 nights yet, but the staff system has become more accommodating for those of us who don't speak foreign languages. Currently, about 70% of the front-facing staff are Japanese. It seems that a new location will open in Hakone next year, which is exciting!

    The service, meals, interior, and garden were all excellent at the Hotel. The spa was spacious and very satisfying, but the water temperature was slightly warm.

    We stayed with family to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Overall impression: "Not bad." It was a stay at a Hotel I had been curious about for some time, during a season when I visited several hotels in Kyoto. The hospitality was excellent. Although it did not reach the level of the Four Seasons Hotel, it gave an impression of great effort. About 90% of the staff we passed greeted us, and when requesting water or other items from the Room, they confirmed additional requests and even made extra suggestions. This left a good impression. When we asked for extra paper and brushes for calligraphy in our Room, they kindly accommodated our request, making it an enjoyable Hotel stay. Thank you very much! The space created by André Fu felt comfortable and special enough to make me want to return occasionally—it was truly wonderful. The tea served while waiting upon arrival was so delicious that I asked for seconds; this warm service elevated the start of our Hotel stay. As this was an anniversary occasion, we received warm comments during turndown service that delighted my daughter. The beautifully designed garden allowed us to enjoy changing scenery throughout different times of day—this added greatly to our experience. In the evening, we indulged in French cuisine at a favorite nearby restaurant and enjoyed walking back—a luxurious treat indeed. This time around, as part of exploring various hotel stays in Kyoto with my daughter’s birthday celebration as context (and also reflecting on "value"), I believe it became quite meaningful experience-wise. I appreciated how there were plenty of staff available who could promptly provide service whenever needed—this aspect stood out as remarkable! During breakfast when requesting hot water after being seated—it arrived promptly; such attention-to-detail deserves high praise! Thank you again! Lastly regarding upgrades: While grateful receiving upgrade proposals post-Reservation confirmation including price details afterward—I found myself surprised since never before experienced higher-than-booked category upgrades offered directly like here especially given celebratory nature surrounding daughter’s birthday where declining wasn’t feasible realistically speaking henceforth would appreciate advance email notifications prior ideally day-before instead moving forward if possible aligning better comparative evaluations across similar-tier properties overall cooperation welcomed warmly likewise future stays ahead alike contexts similarly shared preferences noted accordingly too!

    The breakfast was delicious.

    I was looking forward to my stay as this accommodation was highly praised on social media. However, I was quite disappointed due to my high expectations. I stayed in a bottom-floor room, and when I opened the curtains, the road was right there, and the noise from cars and motorcycles bothered me. Although I had informed them in advance that it was for a birthday celebration, the staff who guided me to the room seemed unaware of it. The breakfast was delicious. However, even during the off-season, considering the price paid, I wouldn’t want to stay here again. It felt entirely catered towards foreign guests.

    An international and luxurious high-end Hotel

    I finally fulfilled my wish to stay here and enjoyed a one-night stay in the King Suite! The accommodation had a luxurious atmosphere with many international guests, truly living up to its 5-star reputation. The hotel staff, though mostly young, provided exceptional service and hospitality. I dined at the French restaurant within the accommodation, where the presentation and taste of the dishes were exquisite. The ambiance of the restaurant was particularly stunning, allowing me to have an unforgettable experience! The spa was filled with international visitors, giving me a feeling of being abroad. I genuinely look forward to staying here again!

    I fell in love with Kyoto all over again.

    Recommended by a friend, I enjoyed a tea ceremony and took commemorative photos at the historic gate. For breakfast, my mother chose a Japanese-style Italian breakfast, while I opted for eggs benedict and a smoothie—perfectly prepared after thorough research. After breakfast, large windows facing the courtyard in the lobby were opened wide, allowing me to relax on a chair and enjoy the serene garden view. (Interestingly, it was the same space where I felt nervous during check-in but later found it calming.) The underground shop felt like a mysterious cave, adding an unexpected thrill to my stay. Learning about the history of the Nijo Castle area was also fascinating. Visiting Kyoto again after 10 years made me fall in love with this city all over again. Even unplanned moments became special in this spacious and relaxing environment.

    A hotel full of hospitality!

    The Room was on the first floor, but we could see the gate of Nijo Castle. The decorations with textile and ceramic crafts, along with the calm interior featuring natural wood tables and chairs, were impressive. On the table, there were delicious Kyoto sweets beautifully coordinated with the dishes. The bathroom had a large bathtub at an easy-to-enter height, two sinks, and a closet that was convenient to use. The thermal spring and SPA provided an extraordinary space where we could relax leisurely. Additionally, the breakfast menu was abundant; especially the Eggs Benedict and tea were delicious. The explanation by the female staff ambassador during the in-house tour was excellent. Thank you for everything that moved us deeply. We would definitely like to repeat our stay again.

    Despite the busy per...

    Despite the busy period at the beginning of the year, the response of the Hotel staff and the atmosphere of the Hotel were wonderful. The garden inside the premises was well-maintained, and the illumination of the autumn leaves was beautiful. I would like to visit again.

    All is resolved.

    This is a hotel where I have stayed more than five times, but I made a reservation through IKYU for the first time in two years. I added a spa option, which I don't usually do. I forgot that I had made some direct changes closer to the date, and I panicked. However, the IKYU operator I contacted was kind and gave me precise instructions, which worked out well. I think I will rely on them for my next reservation as well.

    I was disappointed.

    I had high expectations for my stay, so there were many disappointments. First, when I used the bath, there were two bottles of shampoo but no conditioner or body soap, which was inconvenient. Also, there was only one brush among the amenities in the washroom, which made me wonder if it was for saving costs? I didn't contact anyone, but was it a mistake? Regarding breakfast, I had read the information provided, but there was no explanation about going to the back for self-service when taking a seat, so I just ate pancakes and waited. I would have appreciated it if someone had brought a plate and shown me where to go when I ordered. Additionally, the people at the next table seemed to have all ordered Japanese set meals, but they also brought bread and vegetables on their plates. The hall staff did not say anything, but is that considered normal? It might have been a coincidence, but for us, it was disappointing because we expected service worth the price. The day before, I stayed at a long-established hotel in Keage, and the staff's warm hospitality and attentiveness were incomparable.

    No doubt

    The view from the second floor on the Nijo Castle side is obstructed by trees. This is similar to the lower floors of The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto. Wearing swimsuits in the hot bath is something overseas guests are accustomed to and have no resistance to.
