An Accommodation where you can fully enjoy the charms of Yame

I love the NIPPONIA concept, and I visit each time with excitement for a stay in comfortable guest rooms that feel steeped in history, along with delicious meals. This time in Yame Merchant Town, I finally reached my 10th NIPPONIA. From the welcome service of delicious gyokuro at check-in, to tea leaves and a tea scoop from the long-established Konomi-en prepared in the room, a rare tea incense burner, and matcha that I whisked myself before breakfast, I was soothed by hospitality unique to Yame as a renowned tea region. In addition to tea, I also thoroughly enjoyed locally sourced French cuisine for dinner paired with Yame sake. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary Yame sake, and there was even sake for use as a bath additive (and they said it’s safe to drink as-is). Once again, I was completely satisfied with a stay that let me savor the charms of Yame at leisure. Near the Accommodation there were also an exchange center where they kindly taught us how to brew gyokuro properly and long-established tea shops. Making use of the relaxed 12:00 checkout time the next morning, I took a casual walk to slowly admire the old streetscape and enjoy such luxurious moments immersed in Yame’s culture. I would love to return if I have the chance.

This was my third stay at a NIPPONIA HOTEL, following Ōzu and Izumo. Each location has its own unique charm, and all have been wonderful. Yame offered a serene stay with tea culture present throughout. The staff provided excellent service, and both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. Thank you very much!

    Second Stay: Tea Pairing

This is my second stay this year (2025), following my visit in January. This time, I made the reservation for the tea pairing with the course meal, which I couldn't try last time. While wine pairings and Japanese sake pairings, which I learned about at Nipponia, are great, the Yame tea pairing was truly enjoyable. The explanation of why each tea was chosen was very educational. Although I've studied Chinese tea as a hobby before, seeing how limited variables were skillfully matched with French cuisine was truly impressive. Highly recommended for those interested in pairings or food and drink harmonization. I look forward to visiting again in winter!

    NIPPONIA is truly the best!

I chose this accommodation for my Kyushu trip because I love NIPPONIA. First of all, the staff's hospitality was outstanding, leaving me impressed and moved every time. Just a short conversation made it clear how well-trained they are. The meals were excellent, with both quantity and quality exceeding expectations. One minor downside is the soundproofing due to the use of an old building. Road noise and sounds from adjacent rooms were noticeable. While staying at NIPPONIA comes with an understanding of such aspects, it might be challenging for those sensitive to noise (earplugs were provided in the room, but I didn’t use them as I’m not accustomed to them). Other than that, this hotel is perfect! I aim to visit all NIPPONIA locations someday! Thank you so much to all the staff for creating wonderful memories in Yame!

It was my favorite and the best experience at NIPPONIA.

We used the Hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. In the past, we have stayed at other properties in the same group, such as "Castle Town EN," "NIPPONIA Naramachi," and "NIPPONIA Harima Fukusaki," and had wonderful experiences. This time, we decided to stay here in Yame. We stayed in Room 101, which was very spacious. The traditional atmosphere of the old Japanese house, including the engawa (veranda) and garden, was truly delightful. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were incredibly delicious. We also happened to meet Mr. K from the liquor store across the street, who we learned is the owner of the sake bar within the Hotel. We enjoyed the bar in the evening. The owner, who used to live in this house before it became a Hotel, is from Kitaya and is very knowledgeable about sake. Rather than a textbook-like approach, he taught us how to enjoy sake from a geological perspective, and before we knew it, three hours had passed. We were extremely satisfied with every aspect of our stay and would love to visit again. Next time, we hope to experience the tea ceremony at the Yame Grand Tea Plantation.

A Property for All Five Senses

Amidst the charm of the traditional Japanese house, I was able to spend a relaxing time. The hospitality was excellent, and the meals utilizing local ingredients were both beautiful and delicious. In the Room, it was enjoyable to feel the tatami mats, the texture of wooden boards, the large beams, and the delicate glass windows, and I was also soothed by the aroma of tea incense. Although the Room was located away from the front desk, they kindly listened to my request and provided Shuttle Service. There are also lovely cafes and hot pot restaurants in the surrounding area. I highly recommend strolling through the streets lined with traditional Japanese houses.

The First Visit to Yame Fukushima

I have been a long-time fan of Yame tea and have always been curious about the town of Yame. I discovered NIPPONIA HOTEL Yame Fukushima Merchant Town and stayed with breakfast included. The Property was filled with elements that truly allowed me to relax, such as the engawa (veranda), traditional glass windows, wooden bath, tea incense burner, and delicious tea. Before breakfast, I enjoyed making matcha, and of course, the breakfast was very delicious and just the right amount. This time, I fully enjoyed the hospitality related to tea in the town of Yame. I would love to stay at other NIPPONIA HOTEL locations in different towns as well.

Not crowded with tourists, which is actually nice.

I arrived here after a ride on a local bus from Kurume. Unlike major tourist destinations like Kyoto, this place is not overcrowded with tourists, allowing for a stress-free and enjoyable experience. During check-in, I had the opportunity to make and enjoy matcha tea myself, fully immersing in the tea-themed concept of the stay. The breakfast featuring "Game-ni" (not "Chikuzen-ni" as this is Chikugo) was delicious, making it a truly satisfying trip.

Indeed, as it is a traditional Japanese house, there were impressive setsuzoku (snow) animals.

Room is good, other than that, not bad.

Stayed solo in KITAYA BETTEI Room 102. The building was once used as an annex for the still-existing Kitaya Brewery. This is my fourth time using NIPPONIA, including outside the VMG group, and I am captivated by the concept of utilizing cultural properties. This time, I was satisfied with the Yame Fukushima Merchant Town Hotel, as it was sprinkled with enjoyable points such as the room's decor and lighting design. Particularly, the Yame tea and tea incense burner, unique to Yame, a tea-producing area, were very relaxing. I was surprised by the natural visitors in the room, but they were handled with care. The meals were fairly satisfying. I wonder what kind of rice was used as the base for the fish dish. I should have asked. During the trip, I was so relaxed that I didn't notice, but looking back, there were two points that made me go "hmm?" One was that despite sending a survey (?) before the stay, there was no guidance based on that survey. The second was that the IKYU Diamond benefits were not prepared. Both are minor issues, but I wished they could have added a touch of elegance to the trip. I understand the concept of blending into the daily life of the town rather than offering the comfort of a luxury hotel, but it's a bit disappointing to have to rate it as "not bad."

The guest room, renovated from an old warehouse, opened four years ago, but it has a cleanliness that makes it feel like it just opened recently. I am satisfied with the food. However, there were earplugs in the bedroom. At night, the sound from the neighboring rooms and outside can be heard clearly, and the soundproofing is not very good. It might not be a problem for those who can sleep anywhere, like when camping, but unfortunately, I couldn't sleep well. The pillows are also too high, so it might be better to have another type available.

    This is the second time.

I had the pleasure of staying here through an acquaintance. The blend of old and new is so well done that it always makes me feel at ease. Last time, I fully enjoyed exploring the town of Yame, so I didn’t do much sightseeing this time, but I still think there are very few places where so many traditional houses are lined up like this. The matcha served with breakfast was absolutely delicious.

This was my first visit to Yame Fukushima. The town was lively with preparations for the festival the next day. The pre-festival celebration was vibrant, yet it also had a calm and nostalgic atmosphere. The townspeople and the Hotel staff were kind and warm in their hospitality. It was my first time staying at a Hotel in an old building, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean it was. It also reminded me of the homes of my grandparents and relatives from my childhood. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were very delicious. Although I live in the same prefecture, I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

A Property for Relaxing and Refreshing

Since my stay at NIPPONIA HOTEL Ozu Castle Town last month was so wonderful, I decided to adjust my plans in Fukuoka and stay at this Property. It was a delightful Property that lived up to my expectations. The Room, though in an old building, was functional and comfortable, allowing for a pleasant stay. Both dinner and breakfast incorporated the local specialty, Yame tea, and the portions were just right, making the meals incredibly delicious. I particularly enjoyed the thoughtful touches, such as the fun experience of making my own matcha with a lesson before breakfast, and the preparation in the Room that allowed me to fully enjoy locally sourced Japanese black tea and sencha. These small details and considerations were evident throughout the stay. Since it was hot, I was delighted by the cold-brewed green tea provided in the refrigerator! I did think it would be even better if not only the bedroom but also the living area had tatami flooring (or tatami-like mats).

    A Luxurious Journey for Adults

I was thinking about visiting the temporary shrine in Dazaifu when, timely enough, I received a promotion for Cultura Dazaifu and NIPPONIA Hotel Yame Fukushima. Intrigued by their high ratings, I decided to theme my trip around enjoying the Hotels, spending the first night in Dazaifu and the second in Yame Fukushima. My secondary theme was "truly enjoying delicious Japanese tea." After actually staying there, my honest impression is that this is a Hotel that selects its guests. It is not suitable for those seeking the latest Facilities, convenient environments, or bustling downtown areas. On the other hand, for those who can appreciate historical value and place importance on interaction with local culture, this Hotel is unparalleled. Yame, Fukuoka... It was quite far for someone like me who relies solely on public transportation, but it was more than worth the effort to stay there. First of all, the Room was excellent. The happiness of relaxing with cold green tea prepared in the Room while burning a tea incense burner. The laughter of children outside. The murmur of the town. A space without a TV or clock, perfect for digital detox. The light reaching the Japanese-style Room creates shadows unique to old Japanese houses. And what I loved most was the blissful course meal at Luan paired with Japanese sake. The breakfast was a Japanese meal that made me feel my body rejoicing from the core, and the food and drink were simply outstanding. Additionally, the soothing aroma of the cypress bath was irresistible. Now I’m daydreaming about staying at the NIPPONIA Hotel in Hakodate next time, haha. Thank you for a wonderful trip!

A Property you'll want to visit again and again - now for the third time!

I always look forward to dinner and make a Reservation here. This is my third stay, and I have been provided with a different Room, but every Room has been very relaxing. I am impressed by how the historic building is preserved while being made so comfortable. The staff, as always, have been very kind, making this a familiar Property for me.
