    An Accommodation with excellent dining that you’ll want to visit again

    The meals were beautifully presented, and everything tasted truly delicious. They were a delight to look at as well, and you could feel the care put into each dish. The Room was also thoroughly cleaned, and we were able to spend our time comfortably. The staff kindly answered our questions, which helped us learn about the origins of Kaminoyama Onsen and plan our sightseeing. My spouse loved it too and said we would like to stay again for the meals. We had a relaxing, comfortable stay and it was a wonderful time.

    Renovated concept Accommodation

    From the entrance, the gravel-floored lobby looks stylish but is difficult to walk on. It may be challenging for elderly guests or anyone unsteady on their feet. A wheelchair would likely be impossible. The lobby’s complimentary drinks had a great variety and were a welcome service. The postcard service was also quite fun. The Room was satisfying, but I would have liked amenities such as face towels and combs/brushes. The bath felt a bit small. Some areas feel dated. Here as well, the amenities were limited, which was disappointing. The mysterious fish-shaped light in front of the bath and the Room’s color scheme give a slightly pop feel, which clashes with the lobby’s stately atmosphere. A more unified concept would enhance the overall sense of value. The food was somewhat disappointing. The salt-grilled ayu seemed frozen, lacked flavor, and the innards had broken down. For another fish dish (sweetfish), it came with a chili-tomato style sauce that overwhelmed the fish flavor—such a waste for a premium fish. The sashimi presentation was stylish with a very large plate and flowers, but the actual selection was just two slices of tuna and squid—too sparse. I’d rather see more budget spent on ingredients than decoration. Other dishes were delicious. That’s why it felt unfortunate that some parts didn’t match in quality. Portions were generous—I left very full. Breakfast didn’t have many items that worked well as side dishes for rice. The clay-pot rice was extremely good, so it was disappointing that there weren’t enough sides to go with it. Overall, I think refining the cuisine further would make this even better. Service was flawless.

    Hanaakari Accommodation Tsuki no Ike

    On a whim, I decided to come to this area and found this place on IKYU. I chose it for (1) the balance between price and meals, (2) the location, (3) free-flowing hot spring water direct from the source, and (4) the open-air bath. I can’t deny that I may have been expecting too much value for money, but I did hope for slightly tastier food. I would have been happier if there had been more mountain vegetables. The Accommodation is a bit old, but it has been renovated so it didn’t bother me. I can tell they are making every effort within what’s currently possible. Overall my rating is above average, but with high expectations in mind I rated it a bit strictly—sorry. I like the nearby footbath. I’d also like a bit more liveliness around the area, but perhaps that just shows how much this Accommodation stands out on its own.

    I ended up coming again this month.

    I stayed here for two consecutive months—May with six female high school classmates from 50 years ago, and June with my husband. Last month, everyone requested a repeat visit because our girls’ trip here last year was so well received for both the meals and the Accommodation’s atmosphere, so we came again from Sendai by highway bus, feeling like we were on a little excursion. This month, since I had such a wonderful time myself, I wanted my husband to enjoy the delicious cuisine too. Both last month and this month featured different menus, and everything was excellent. All the dishes are beautifully presented and delicious, but the secret soybean puree steamed dish was so good I wanted seconds—many thanks to the head chef. Since both stays were on weekdays, we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. The women’s bath has a ReFa showerhead and hair dryer, so bath time is always comfortable and satisfying. The cute small decorations displayed throughout the building are also very heartwarming. I’ll be back again with another friend.

    It was wonderful.

    Just before our stay, the open-air bath in the large public bath became unavailable due to construction. As an apology, our Room was upgraded—an extremely appreciated and thoughtful gesture! We had a similar incident at another ryokan before (name withheld), where they tried to smooth it over by simply upgrading the welcome sweets, which left us dissatisfied. This time, however, we had no complaints at all. Our 4-year-old daughter is quite picky and we often struggle with meals, but when we asked if she could have grilled fish instead of a hamburger steak, they served herb-seasoned ayu sweetfish. She loved it and finished an entire fish in no time. The adults also found everything delicious—we finished every dish! Overall, the service and hospitality were excellent. Our daughter was very happy and said she wants to come again. Because we couldn’t use the open-air bath, that part is 4 stars; everything else is perfect.

    A Relaxing and Luxurious Getaway

    I chose this Accommodation with a focus on the stay itself, hoping to relax both body and mind for the first time in a while. It was a bit far from the station, but I enjoyed taking an unhurried walk while looking at the townscape. The Facility is old, but it is well cleaned and very tidy. Above all, I was impressed by the courteous service from the staff at the Accommodation. The meals were satisfying in both quality and quantity, and everything tasted great. Even details like the tableware at mealtimes and the cups by the free-drink area felt thoughtfully chosen by the owner, and it was enjoyable just to look at them. There didn’t seem to be many sightseeing spots nearby, but if your goal is to get away from the bustle and relax slowly, this place offers a very fulfilling stay.

    A wonderful Accommodation offering calm, thoughtful hospitality

    I felt heartfelt hospitality throughout, offering a level of comfort you won’t find in a large Hotel. The refined Japanese-style lobby, blended with the feel of an English manor house, was soothing, and the understated service made the stay truly relaxing. Dining in a private room, I enjoyed carefully selected seasonal ingredients and beautiful tableware right to the end. The specialty zunda pureed soup was outstanding as well. This is an Accommodation I would love to return to.

    Charming Accommodation

    A charming accommodation with thoughtful decorations of flowers and lights, perfect for women seeking a delightful stay. The outdoor bath features floating lights, creating an adorable atmosphere. The area around the accommodation is quite dark, and due to frequent bear sightings reported in the news, we decided to cut our evening walk short. The meals were beautifully presented with attention to detail in both plating and tableware, offering a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. While there was a free drink service in the lounge, it was slightly disappointing that white wine was unavailable (though red wine was provided).

    It was very relaxing.

    Every year, I stay at this accommodation with my mother. The warm hospitality of the staff, including the hostess, makes it a very comfortable and beloved place to stay. The food is incredibly delicious and highly satisfying. I would love to visit again.

    It is an old building, but a clean and thoughtfully maintained accommodation.

    The interior revealed a completely unexpected space. During our stay, it was very quiet and felt wonderfully secluded from the outside world. When we turned off the air conditioning due to the heat, the wooden structure made it quite chilly, so it's better to keep the air conditioning on. The flowing Onsen was always at a perfect temperature whenever we entered. The large public bath had separate temperature sections, making it comfortable whether you prefer hot baths or not. The Room provided four bath towels and even bathrobes, which was very convenient. As for meals, everything was delicious except for the salad containing herbs, which was slightly disappointing.

    A Must-Stay Accommodation

    The building itself is not new, but this accommodation offers exceptional hospitality that makes it unnoticeable. On a rainy day, when we arrived on foot, the staff came out to greet us and provided towels for each person to wipe our bags. They also dried our umbrellas and returned them upon departure. Soft drinks were available as a service, and alcohol was offered in the lobby: red wine until 7 PM and fruit liqueur, whiskey, and Wilkinson until 10 PM. The public bath was just the right size—not too big—and the changing room had a stylish design. Shampoo by Pola and hair dryers by ReFa were provided. Two bath towels per person were prepared in the room. Each room had one yukata (Japanese robe), while various designs of yukata were available in the lobby for guests to choose from. There was also a free corner where you could write postcards using glass pens or watercolors. Meals were served in semi-private rooms with dishes brought out at perfect intervals. While there was a wide variety of dishes, each portion was small enough to enjoy comfortably without feeling overwhelmed—all of them delicious. Since we stayed in a Japanese-style room, futons were laid out during dinner time with thick mattresses that allowed for an excellent night's sleep. This accommodation is so inviting that even solo travelers would want to visit just for delicious food and onsen experiences. If there's one suggestion—it would be great if shuttle service could be provided since it takes nearly 20 minutes uphill from the station on foot!

    We had a wonderful time.

    This time, we stayed for my wife's 70th birthday celebration. The atmosphere inside the property was pleasant, and everyone was kind and attentive, providing excellent service. The meals were delicious both in the morning and evening, beautifully presented and truly wonderful. Additionally, a congratulatory message was written on the dessert plate at the end of dinner, which touched us with its thoughtful gesture. Thank you very much. We used a room with an open-air bath; however, I noticed that the entrance door rubbed against the floor carpet and that one side of the table had a massage chair making it difficult to sit comfortably while having tea. Despite this, the bed was very comfortable to sleep in, and I was impressed by how clean our private open-air bath was with fresh flowers floating in it. I want to visit again. I want to tell others about it too. It is such a property that makes you feel this way. Lastly, thank you for allowing us to have such a wonderful time.

    The lights in the lobby, hallway, large public bath, Room, and open-air bath were all cute. The open-air bath in the Room was elegantly decorated with floating flowers. I was surprised at how clean the changing room in the large public bath was. The meals were very delicious, and the smaller portions were just right for me. I was very satisfied with the free drinks, including alcohol, in the lounge.

    I was satisfied.

    I stayed during the New Year. The property seemed to be an old building, but it was well-maintained and clean. The free drinks and meals were very delicious, and I was able to relax in the onsen. Since it was just after our wedding, they took a commemorative photo for us, and we were delighted with the thoughtful message we received at checkout. If I had to say, the floor of the onsen changing room was very cold, and my feet got quite chilly, but overall, the hospitality-filled service allowed us to have a very pleasant time at the beginning of the year.

    We had a very comfortable and wonderful time. The atmosphere inside the property was very lovely, and I especially liked the lobby. The service from the staff was excellent, and everyone we met was wonderful. I would like to stay again. One request I have is that there were only three places to use the hairdryer in the large public bath, so it would be nice if there were a few more.

    I visited with a friend. Both the lobby and the room had a great atmosphere, raising our expectations from the start. The showers and hairdryers in the large public bath were excellent, and I was impressed. Above all, the food was incredibly delicious. Each dish was well-seasoned, and everything from start to finish was perfect. This is a property I want to experience each season. My friend and I have decided to visit again, saying, "Let's come in spring next time."

    An inn I want to visit again

    It was a cozy inn. The building seems old, but it has been renovated and feels clean. There are no tourist attractions around the inn. It is perfect for relaxing at the inn. Free drinks are available in the lobby. Both the bath and meals were very satisfying. The meals, in particular, are a feast for the eyes. I definitely want to visit again.
