    Although it’s far away, it’s a Hotel I’d like to visit again.

    Even for travelers who have visited eastern or northern Hokkaido, I think not many have made it as far as Engaru or Maruseppu. If you’re heading to Monbetsu, Abashiri, or the Shiretoko area, it might be a great idea to extend your trip and stay here. On the day I stayed, it was pouring rain, and in the pitch-dark a charming, Western-style building suddenly appeared—it really surprised me. The Hotel lobby also had high ceilings and a lovely Western feel, yet with an overall sense of cuteness. I enjoyed the welcome drink and cookies before soaking in the Onsen; as others have mentioned, it leaves your skin smooth and silky. Everything was also kept very clean. Dinner was the standard course, but both the content and portions were more than sufficient. Nothing was overly seasoned; it felt like the ingredients were allowed to shine, and everything was delicious. There was a pairing option with four drinks (not three), so I ordered that and found it to be excellent value. Every drink selected was tasty and paired well with the food. Breakfast wasn’t one of those “seafood pride!” spreads often seen at Hotels in Hokkaido; instead, it used plenty of local ingredients with many Hokkaido-style dishes, along with some creative twists and items arranged to be easy to enjoy in the morning—I had a great time with it. The staff were cheerful yet calm throughout, and very pleasant to interact with.

    The best soba noodles and Onsen.

    I stayed here four years ago and came back because I was craving soba. The Onsen water still has that silky feel, and it’s as wonderful as ever. This time I enjoyed a Multiple Night Stay and was able to truly relax. The soup curry at breakfast was also delicious, so I bought soba dipping sauce and packaged curry as souvenirs. We laughed remembering how last time we wondered, “Can we get through this way?” and then had to turn back from a dead-end road—classic Hokkaido travel. It really reminded me that eastern Hokkaido has great Onsen Accommodations. I’d love to come again.

    The soba is delicious!

    Maure Sanso was the only convenient stopover on our trip across Hokkaido, so we stayed for one night, and it was excellent. It’s a charming Hotel surrounded by trees, and both the common areas and the rooms have been nicely renovated, making it very comfortable. (The in-room unit bath is quite small, which was a bit disappointing.) The Onsen water is wonderful and very relaxing, and all of the Hotel staff are kind. The meals—especially the soba—are delicious, and you can have seconds.

    The Room looks very different from the photos.

    I stayed in the Comfort Twin (Room 211), but unlike the photos on IKYU and the official website, there were only two windows instead of four (half as many). Outside was a dirty balcony wall (not the see-through fence shown in the photos) and protruding walls on both sides that blocked the view. In addition, “insect-control chemicals” had been applied over the entire glass surface, making it cloudy—essentially a “no view” situation. I had expected a view of green trees from the window, so this was very disappointing. The service staff were mostly foreign nationals; everyone was friendly, but for a luxury Hotel…?? Dinner was delicious, but it was disappointing that the fish dish was slightly cold, perhaps because the plate hadn’t been warmed. The Onsen water quality was nice and silky. However, in the morning open-air bath there were quite a lot of dead moths floating. I learned after returning home that an outbreak of gypsy moths has been an issue across Hokkaido around this time in early August, but whether it was the chemicals on the Room window or what happened in the open-air bath, I think I would have been more satisfied if this had been properly explained on site.

    It was a comfortable stay with delicious food.

    It was a nostalgic stay, yet the atmosphere felt like being in a different country and was very comfortable. My 90-year-old mother also had an easy time, as the large public bath and restaurant were conveniently accessible. The staff member who assisted us was kind, but spoke softly and it seemed my mother couldn’t hear well. We also enjoyed some delicious wine, making it a wonderful stay. Thank you very much.

    The Onsen is wonderful!

    The Onsen water is silky and leaves your skin smooth—I was amazed. The Room was clean as well. I was very satisfied with the meals, and all the staff were wonderful. I’d love to visit again. The Room curtains were quite bright, so I woke up early; I’d appreciate darker curtains.

    This was the most relaxing Accommodation during our 8-night trip around Eastern Hokkaido.

    We are also grateful for the staff’s attentive service. The selection of course wines paired with the meal included some pleasantly unexpected choices, which became a wonderful memory. In addition, you introduced us to a wine made from Engaru-grown grapes, and we thoroughly enjoyed a bottle of it as well. Above all, despite the unusual crowds in places during the holiday period, we were able to relax in peace—this was the most comfortable Accommodation of our 8-night trip around eastern Hokkaido. We are deeply thankful to the person who recommended this Accommodation to us.

    A hotel with excellent hospitality.

    The first thing everyone praises is the onsen's water quality—alkaline and silky smooth. The temperature was perfect, and even though it was below freezing outside, the open-air bath was so comfortable that you could stay in for as long as you wanted. Simply amazing. Next is the chef's cuisine at the restaurant. A fusion of Japanese and Western styles, using local ingredients to create incredibly delicious dishes. As mentioned in other reviews, the soba served at the end of the meal was also outstanding! The front desk staff were modest but polite, and the hospitality from the hotel manager was exceptional, creating a truly comfortable atmosphere throughout our stay. Additionally, we had planned to head to Abashiri the next day; however, due to heavy snowfall overnight, train services from Asahikawa to Engaru were suspended in the morning. Although a train finally departed from Engaru in the evening, we were allowed to stay in our room until then and even received a ride to Engaru station—this help meant so much. The selection of Hokkaido wines at dinner was excellent as well! The service provided by staff made us feel warmly welcomed and enhanced our enjoyment of both food and wine. The buffet breakfast on the following day also exceeded expectations with dishes that highlighted high-quality ingredients—it left us very satisfied! The staff’s attentive service during breakfast added an extra touch of warmth. Although reaching this mountain location can be challenging (especially during winter), it’s absolutely worth recommending if you have an opportunity to visit! The hotel's design resembles a stylish mountain lodge with high ceilings—a charming space that guests of all ages can enjoy thoroughly!

    Onsen is amazing.

    The room was spacious and impeccably clean. The private bath in the room was relaxing, and the Onsen water was just as pleasant as in the large public bath. All the staff were friendly and provided excellent service.

    A very charming accommodation

    A charming accommodation nestled in the heart of nature. The lobby, located in a Western-style building, offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The clean and cozy Nordic-inspired room made our stay very comfortable. The onsen in the room had silky smooth water that amazed us! As a couple with sensitive skin, we truly appreciated the soothing water and enjoyed multiple baths. One bath towel per person wasn’t enough (laughs). The staff were incredibly friendly, and every meal was delicious. The soba noodles were perfectly firm, so much so that my husband had seconds with an extra-large serving. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of variety, leaving us full and satisfied. This is an accommodation we will definitely visit again!

    It was a good stay despite some ups and downs.

    We stayed at the accommodation on the final day of our 5-day trip to Eastern Hokkaido. While enjoying the charming interior and relaxing in our room, the power suddenly went out, which surprised us. It turned out to be a blackout affecting the entire area due to severe weather. The outage lasted about two hours, but we felt very reassured as we received explanations over the phone from the front desk and were provided with a powerful flashlight along with other thoughtful gestures. Although dinner was slightly delayed from its scheduled time, every dish was delicious. We especially enjoyed the soba served at the end of the course, which could be refilled in large portions upon request—we happily took advantage of that offer! During my visit to the bath, I had it all to myself and thoroughly enjoyed both an open-air bath where I could hear river sounds and an indoor bath with skin-smoothing waters. The breakfast buffet was also delightful. Beyond just great food, even details like honey for yogurt showed their attention to quality. At checkout, we received kind words of apology regarding yesterday's blackout; however, it wasn’t something within their control. As days pass since returning from this trip, I find myself cherishing these unforgettable memories more and more—and feeling eager to visit again someday. Thank you very much!

    Rooms with Open-Air Baths Available

    The room with an open-air bath was spacious enough to enjoy with the kids, and we were very satisfied. The hot spring quality was excellent, leaving our skin smooth. The meals were delicious and served in just the right portions. The room itself was spacious, and having access to Netflix made us happy. Breakfast was also tasty, and the 100% apple juice provided for the kids was a big hit. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit the sauna located outside the premises due to our late arrival time. We would love to visit again!

    Relaxing Holiday

    The scenery around the mountain lodge feels like being deep in the mountains or a forest, creating a magical atmosphere like something out of a fairy tale. Inside the lodge, decorative plates and paintings enhance the ambiance beautifully. The meals were incredibly delicious, with tasteful presentation and tableware adding to the experience. The room was spacious and included an Onsen, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing bath anytime we wanted—a truly blissful experience. However, it was disappointing that there were not enough towels, no pajamas provided, and that the room cleaning was not thorough—including on the balcony. This is such a wonderful Hotel, so I hope they can maintain their image by addressing these issues.

    Comfortable facility, but staff service could be improved.

    The facility was clean, had a calm atmosphere, and provided a comfortable stay. The amenities were well-equipped, making it suitable for those who prefer a quiet stay. The meals were very delicious, and the restaurant staff were kind and attentive, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience pleasantly. On the other hand, I was confused by the unkind response when I called in advance. The check-in process also felt disappointing due to awkward language and guidance. Additionally, upon arrival, there were many moth carcasses around the entrance area, which left a poor first impression. Although it seemed that cleaning was done later at the entrance, an earlier cleanup would have made entering more pleasant. Since both the facility and meals are excellent, improving staff service would make for an even more wonderful stay.

    I had a relaxing time.

    The pathway from the parking lot to the entrance is a stone-paved path with a fair distance. There is no greeting or luggage-carrying service, so guests need to carry their belongings themselves, which might be challenging for elderly visitors. The welcome sparkling wine was a delightful touch. The Superior Twin Room is not very spacious but impeccably clean and comfortable. Bath towels and towels are provided at the Onsen area, which is convenient compared to places where you have to bring them from your room. This made it stress-free as I could enjoy multiple visits to the Onsen without reusing wet towels. You can dine in your yukata and slippers comfortably. Dinner offered an excellent balance of French and Japanese cuisine, both delicious without being overly formal. The breakfast buffet the next morning was impressive considering its scale, with plenty of variety and constant replenishment ensuring no empty dishes were left out. The high pH Onsen water was clear and left my skin feeling smooth, while the staff's hospitality was exceptional and pleasant throughout my stay. Considering the price point, it offers great value for money—highly satisfying overall!

    The meals and Onsen were excellent. I look forward to seeing this become a wonderful Hotel. It was nice that the staff guided us to the Room, but guests had to carry their own large suitcases. I believe these small details are steps toward becoming an exceptional Hotel. It was disappointing because the meals and Onsen were so wonderful.

    The Onsen was of the...

    The Onsen was of the highest quality. I enjoyed the bath three times. The dinner course was diverse and delicious, with the last two dishes being a delightful surprise. It was a very quiet place with only the sound of the river.

    Stylish and clean Hotel

    I was initially worried if there would be an accommodation in such a remote area, but upon arrival, I was relieved to find a slightly sophisticated and clean hotel. The room was compact but had a sense of cleanliness, which was nice. The bath was bright, and the water made my skin feel smooth and pleasant. However, it was disappointing that chlorine was added for disinfection and the water circulated despite its quality. There is a nearby public onsen called "Poppo no Yu," which offers sauna facilities and free-flowing hot spring water for hotel guests at no charge. Unfortunately, its operating hours are from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and it requires some walking distance, so I couldn't use it. I feel that making the hotel's open-air bath smaller with free-flowing hot spring water would make it more appealing. The meals were a combination of Japanese and Western styles; while they didn't quite live up to the reviews in terms of taste, the final soba dish was very delicate and delicious—I even asked for seconds!

    Meals have been further improved.

    Both dinner and breakfast have improved in quality. I was particularly impressed with the effort to provide additional dishes for breakfast, even at a later time. I always stay in the Queen Room, and while I understand that the bathroom has become smaller compared to before, it is very disappointing that there are no bathrobes available, which causes stress after taking a bath.

    The Resort Hotel-like atmosphere allowed for a relaxing stay. With only 20 rooms, it was very quiet. The large public bath was never crowded, and meals could be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The room was spacious, bright, clean, and very comfortable. The quality of the Onsen water was excellent. Dinner lived up to its reputation for being delicious. The sommelier worked efficiently with great attention to detail and kindly assisted in selecting drinks that paired well with the meal, showcasing their extensive knowledge. The soba noodles were also delightful. The breakfast buffet may not have had the extravagance of Hokkaido but featured many locally sourced ingredients that conveyed warm hospitality. The tomato juice and milk were particularly delicious.

Additionally, the food is delicious, and drink options are diverse, including not only Hokkaido products but also a wide selection. The dessert plates are also unique and interesting. Originally established as Maruseppu's national accommodation facility, it now operates as this hotel. The surrounding area of the hotel is well-maintained while preserving abundant nature where squirrels can be spotted. According to reviews, adding extra bath towels in guest rooms would make it perfect for full marks. This is one of the highly recommended hotels in Hokkaido based on personal experience—truly outstanding!

    No, no... it was amazing.

    Traveling from Monbetsu using Route 305 to Maure. Honestly, it gets dark... and it snows... I felt like giving up several times along the way. Even upon arrival, the roads were slippery with melted snow and there was no sign of anyone coming to pick up my luggage... quite a bad mood. Furthermore, the person explaining inside the facility had no smile and left a very poor impression. However, the macaron I ate upon arrival was authentic with an amazing taste. From here on, it was a series of surprises. There was also a handmade cake in the room. This too had an excellent taste. The bath is an Onsen with the highest pH I've ever experienced; incomparable to Gero or Kusatsu's alkaline simple springs. I was surprised by how it felt like soap still clung to my body even after entering the bathtub. Dinner featured steak that skillfully sealed in Betsukai beef fat; perfectly sized and personally enjoyed with salt. It was undoubtedly the best meal during this seven-day trip for my 60th birthday celebration journey! And then morning came: outside what had been pitch black due to our late arrival revealed itself as a snowy landscape—truly astonishing! Breakfast also tasted deliciously satisfying me further ensuring another visit next time without fail—or rather I'm certain I'll go again! Thank you for such wonderful moments spent here!

    A well-balanced, cozy hotel perfect for relaxation.

    The hot spring has a smooth and silky texture, and the large public bath is around 41 degrees, allowing for a long soak. Personally, I prefer it hotter, so there was no issue, but the hot spring in the room was slightly hotter. The service was not sophisticated but was polite and sincere. The relaxing room and the room have a coffee maker, and although there is only one, there is a high-spec massage chair in the relaxing room. The meals were delicious, and there were no particular issues with the serving, making it a well-balanced and comfortable hotel. Since it was September, after soaking in the hot spring for a long time, I would break out in a sweat, so if I had to say, it would have been nice to have cold soft drinks available in the relaxing room.

    There are no drawbacks other than the inconvenience of needing a car to get there.

    Wonderful hot springs, wonderful environment and room, service, and meals, everything is impeccable. Especially the meals, everything is delicious, and the soba at the end is far more delicious than most specialty shops. I will probably visit again in the not-too-distant future.
