    We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    Located just a short distance from Horyu-ji Temple, the building was new and very clean. As there were few guests on the day of our stay, we were upgraded to the West Wing. The bath was at a perfect temperature, and breakfast the next morning was delicious—this was our favorite Accommodation of the trip. On the Horyu-ji tour, the guide’s explanations were excellent, and the two hours flew by. This is an Accommodation we definitely want to visit again. It truly became a valuable and memorable journey.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    This was my second stay, the first in seven months. I was upgraded to a better Room, and I was able to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay. There were two types of baths, and I used them twice—at night and in the morning—and both times they felt like private use, so I could unwind at ease. The meals were delicious, but dinner was quite a large portion; I thought it would have been just right if the shabu-shabu at dinner and the yudofu at breakfast had been switched. The service was excellent, and I would love to stay again.

    An irresistible Accommodation for lovers of Buddhist statues and history

    I stayed here on a solo trip. True to its name, Horyuji, this Accommodation was wonderful, letting me fully enjoy Buddhist statues and history throughout the entire property. I highly recommend the talk show and the Horyuji guided tour. The clean, calm Japanese-style room and the kaiseki cuisine starting with dashi were excellent. The guests also tended to be older, so I was able to relax peacefully at a slow pace. I’d like to visit regularly.

    We really enjoyed our stay.

    We stayed during the July long weekend. A variety of Plans were available to entertain guests. There were two storytelling sessions, at 17:00 (Prince Shotoku) and 21:00 (Buddhist statues), plus a Fujinoki Tumulus tour from 20:00, and a Horyu-ji guided tour the next day—so there was plenty to enjoy. The building was clean, and both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The staff were kind and provided excellent service. You can also walk to the nearby Ikaruga Cultural Properties Center, which makes it even more enjoyable when combined with the tumulus tour.

    Horyu-ji Temple Tour with a Passionate Storyteller

    I’m a repeat participant in the storyteller tour. In just two hours, the guide can only share a small part of their extensive knowledge, but I could really feel their passion. It renewed my appreciation for Horyu-ji’s appeal—truly worthy of its World Heritage status—and I’d like to join again with a different theme.\nAlso, we were upgraded to a better Room. There isn’t much to see from the windows or in terms of scenery at this Accommodation, but the Room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable.\nThe two bathhouses aren’t large, but they were pleasant; I used them many times, and the roasted green tea gelato afterward was delicious.\nI stay somewhere almost every month, and this has become one of my favorite Accommodations.\nThe only downside is that because of the tour schedule, I wanted a bit more time to read Buddhist books in the lounge. I would be happy if early check-in were available.

    Deeply immersed in the Asuka period

    Although we weren’t very knowledgeable about history, both the kofun tour and the Horyu-ji Temple tour were fascinating. Your explanations were sometimes humorous, and we never got bored—it was one “Wow” after another, and we had a wonderful time. The Accommodation still feels quite new, but it was spotless, well maintained, and well stocked with amenities, making our stay very comfortable. The meals were delicious: a satisfying kaiseki course with excellent dashi in each dish.

    The Most Comfortable Accommodation Just Before Horyu-ji Temple

    This was my second stay. I visited with three friends who were staying for the first time. The moment you step into the small, Japanese-style lobby, a calm and relaxing atmosphere surrounds you. The Room is also soothing, with tatami flooring around the beds. The baths are not very large, but there are two types, and on the day we went they always felt like private use. The Japanese meals were also delicious. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that the Room, dining area, and baths are in separate buildings. It was raining that day, so moving between them was a bit of a concern—though it’s only about 20 steps. My top recommendation is the evening and nighttime talk sessions and the Horyu-ji guided tour the next day. Both were rich in historical detail and truly satisfying. Visiting after hearing the explanations makes a world of difference. My friends were very happy too—this is a wonderful Accommodation that makes you want to come back again.

    Favorite Accommodation

    Above all, the Horyu-ji tour exclusively for guests was outstanding. After a delicious breakfast, we explored Horyu-ji with a professional storyteller-guide who offers a different experience every day of the year—enjoyable for everyone from first-timers to true enthusiasts. With Nara poised for a boom as it becomes a candidate for World Cultural Heritage status, this is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again and again in different seasons while it’s still quiet.

    A Mother-Daughter Trip

    This is my second visit. I came back because I was looking forward to the free guided tour of Horyu-ji Temple. The food is also delicious. I’d love to stay here again in a few years.

    A quiet, clean, and enriching accommodation.

    I stayed at this Accommodation right next to Horyu-ji Temple so I could visit the temple and joined the “Horyu-ji Storyteller Tour.” The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made it a fun, full two-hour tour, allowing me to truly enjoy Horyu-ji. The meals were by far the most delicious of any Ryokan I’ve stayed at, and choosing this Accommodation was absolutely the right decision. This is an Accommodation I would definitely recommend to friends and acquaintances.

    I was able to relax ...

    I was able to relax and take my time. Through the talks and the storyteller-guided tour, I was able to learn more about Horyu-ji Temple and its history, and I was very satisfied. The Facility, meals, and service were all excellent, and I would like to stay again in a different season.

    Experience Accommodation

    I chose this Accommodation because it is close to Horyu-ji Temple. The bed was comfortable, and I had a pleasant stay. While spending time inside the building, you can learn about sutra copying and Ikaruga culture. It would be more convenient if the Room had a teapot and mugs. Also, a Shuttle Service by minibus would be helpful for guests arriving on foot.

    The storyteller-guided tour was excellent.

    The Facility and services were fairly average. At check-in, we were offered a drink, but despite that we had to wait. There was no guidance to the Room, and no one helped with our luggage. The Room had only shoji screens and no blackout curtains, so it became bright in the morning and woke us up. The meals were also just average. What was truly great was the storyteller tour after checkout. It went beyond Horyu-ji, and it changed how I will view Buddhist statues and temples from now on. If this storyteller tour is only available to guests staying at the Accommodation, I strongly felt that I would consider staying again just for that.

    A must if you’re visiting Horyu-ji Temple!

    Thank you for taking care of us during our visit to Horyu-ji Temple. The location right near Horyu-ji was excellent, the Accommodation was very comfortable, and the amenities were surprisingly well stocked. The meals were delicious, and we could choose the portion size when making our Reservation, so we were very satisfied. We chose a plan that included a guided tour of Horyu-ji Temple, which was one of the reasons we selected this Accommodation, and it was truly wonderful. The “Gallery Slide & Talk Show” was also fascinating—we could really feel how much the staff love Nara and Horyu-ji Temple. I gave 4 stars because the bath was a bit small, but it wasn’t a major issue, and overall everything was great. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful stay.

    This is a wonderful Accommodation in a quiet area near the entrance to Horyu-ji Temple. The Facility is very clean, and it’s rare to find an Accommodation that is maintained with such meticulous care. The meals were also excellent, and the Yamato kaiseki was especially delicious. The Horyu-ji tour guided by a storyteller was very enjoyable, and the two hours flew by. If I have the chance, I would definitely like to visit again.

    It was very relaxing.

    I stayed at this Accommodation to visit Horyu-ji Temple. The Room was clean, and all the staff were very pleasant. The meals offered a wide variety of dishes, and I was satisfied. The large public bath was also clean, and I was able to relax and enjoy my time there. If I had to ask for one thing, it would be nice to have an ice machine. Also, I would have liked to be informed at check-in that the vending machines do not accept new banknotes.

    The guest-only Horyu-ji tour led by our storyteller staff is outstanding.

    I chose to stay at Wakuu Horyuji for its simple design with the warmth of wood, impeccably cleaned Rooms, the setting right in front of Horyuji Temple, thoughtfully crafted meal menus, and above all, the guest-only Horyuji tour led by a storyteller. As the meeting time approached, many guests of all ages gathered in front of the front desk; audio guides were handed out, and we set off for Horyuji just ahead. The two-hour tour (Sai-in Garan) flew by as we experienced our guide’s deep love for Buddhism and its scriptures, temple architecture, Buddhist statues, and history. This time, connected to the Taiga drama “Toyotomi Brothers!”, one theme was “the relationship between Sengoku warlords and Horyuji.” Yamato Koriyama Castle associated with Hidetsugu—Hideyoshi’s younger brother—is just over a 15-minute drive from Wakuu Horyuji. It was a truly eye-opening experience that made me realize how many highlights (and perspectives) this area has. By all means, join the guest-only tour for an unforgettable experience that will change how you see it all.

    My grandparents and uncle stayed with us to celebrate my grandfather’s 90th birthday. After we mentioned the occasion, the staff kindly congratulated him, which made him very happy. The Room was also very clean.

    An Accommodation embraced by Prince Shotoku’s spirit

    I always stay here when visiting Horyu-ji Temple. Although it is an Accommodation right in front of the temple gate, I love everything about it: the calm atmosphere throughout the building, the wooden furnishings, the refined guest rooms, locally sourced kaiseki cuisine such as Yamato beef shabu-shabu and a Japanese breakfast, and the bathhouse-style baths (called “Yokudo”) featuring Yamato roasted tea and black silica. Above all, the staff’s hospitality truly shows how much they love Ikaruga. My routine is to take a walk around Horyu-ji before breakfast—by the South Gate, East Gate, and Yumedono—before it opens at 8:00. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the seasonal scenery—cherry blossoms, fresh green leaves, cicadas in summer, autumn foliage, and snow—and to see how the approach to Horyu-ji changes with sunrise. It feels like becoming one with the air of Ikaruga. I also enjoyed learning through lectures about Horyu-ji Temple, guided tours of the grounds by certified Ikaruga guides, and introduction videos about the Asuka area. I think this is an ideal Accommodation for anyone who wants to fully experience Ikaruga including Horyu-ji. Thank you very much to all of your staff.

    Overall, I was almost completely satisfied.

    We visited Nara to see the Kudara Kannon at Horyu-ji Temple. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The meals were excellent, and the vinegared dishes in particular left a strong impression. Two disappointing points about the Room: an odor in the toilet (perhaps the deodorizing filter?), and the third futon was too soft. It would have been better if all bedding had been of the same quality. The guided storyteller tour exceeded our expectations and truly drew us in. Your passion for what you love really came through. Thank you very much.

    A Nara-Loving Accommodation

    Stayed here to visit Horyu-ji Temple. It’s located along the approach road, with a nearby bus stop from Horyuji Station—excellent access. Because it’s so close to Horyu-ji, I was able to take a leisurely walk after breakfast and explore the temple grounds when it was still quiet (around the outside). For the main temple complex, I joined a guided tour. As it was my first time at Horyu-ji, I chose a general tour rather than one led by temple staff, but I could hear the staff-led tour nearby and regretted not joining that one. Next time, I’d like to join the staff-led tour. From check-in to check-out, everyone at the Accommodation was wonderful—warm and welcoming throughout. I also enjoyed the talk show and slideshow. They were easy to follow, and I’m glad I listened before visiting Horyu-ji. The meals were refined and delicious. The bath (called “Yokudo”) isn’t large, but it never felt crowded. The tea-scented bath is soothing and wonderfully relaxing. If I visit Horyu-ji again, I will definitely stay here again. Outstanding value for money.

    It was clean.

    It was conveniently located right in front of Horyu-ji Temple. My strongest impression was that the Facility was clean and well maintained. It helped me clear my mind before visiting Horyu-ji. Although I couldn’t join this time, I found it interesting that there are storyteller tours and other in-house events. Since there seem to be few dining options around Horyu-ji, I recommend adding meals if you have enough time.

    We keep coming back ...

    We keep coming back because the staff’s guided tours are so enjoyable. Due to work, we had only been able to join on weekends, but this time we were able to participate in a weekday tour for the first time. This tour focused on architecture. Even as beginners, we found every story engaging and memorable, and the two hours flew by. We’ll visit again—we’re looking forward to it.

    It truly felt like an adults-only school trip.

    While looking for a meaningful vacation, I learned about an Accommodation Plan that includes a guided tour and made a Reservation. I booked mainly for the guided tour, but once I stayed, the meals and the Room were both excellent. I was able to spend peaceful time reflecting on myself.\n\nThe guided tour itself was truly wonderful as well. The guide’s storytelling was superb and their knowledge extensive—two hours flew by. Since the guided tour varies by season, I’d love to visit again at a different time of year for a second “adult school trip.”

    Unmatched satisfaction.

    Since the Kuse Kannon Bosatsu at Horyu-ji Temple was being opened for public viewing, I looked for nearby Accommodation. The quiet setting, spotless Accommodation, soothing hot bath, and delicious meals—everything was excellent.     It was a wonderful stay.

    This was my second stay. I came for the Horyu-ji tour—last time I learned about Buddhist statues, and this time about architecture. I was deeply impressed by the storyteller’s extensive knowledge and curiosity, and each visit brings new discoveries. This time, I also gained a better eye for architecture when visiting other temples, which was truly educational. Of course, the meals were also wonderful and delicious. This Hotel is quiet and calming, perhaps because many guests are older. In Kyoto, many Hotels and restaurants are staffed by people from overseas, so there are often times when Japanese is not understood. I also often find it hard to relax due to loud voices in public baths. Please keep things just as they are. I will be back again. Thank you very much.

    Guided Tour / Talk Show

    We chose the standard dinner course, and everything was delicious with a satisfying portion size. The Room was new and spotless, and both the Room and bathroom were spacious! The large public bath is small, so it feels cramped unless you go at a quiet time. The staff are knowledgeable about Buddhism and there is a talk show. The guided tour was also very interesting; it’s a two-hour course, but I don’t think you often get explanations that include the guide’s own perspectives. It’s fine to leave partway through, and it seems they talk about different themes depending on the season, so I’d like to come back again. However, nearby shops close at night, which can feel a bit lonely.

    The guided tour of Horyu-ji Temple was excellent.

    This was my first visit to Horyu-ji, and I stayed here mainly for the guided tour. Just as the Reviews said, the guided tour was outstanding. This time the theme was architecture, and it was truly educational. The Accommodation itself was wonderful too, and I could relax. All the staff were pleasant, and the food was delicious. There are two Room buildings, so you have to step outside once to get to the large public bath; that might be unpleasant in winter, but the black silica bath water was excellent. I’d also be happy if there were skincare amenities in the Room. I’ll definitely come again! Next time, I hope it’s during a Buddha statue–themed tour. I’m looking forward to it already. Thank you very much.

    Guided Tour

    The guided tour I’d been curious about for a while was wonderful. My wife was worried about walking for two hours, but with enjoyable conversation and insightful knowledge—so that’s how it works—the time flew by. We also learned there are tours with different themes, and we’d love to join again. The view from the Room window didn’t offer much in particular, but the Room was clean and the staff were courteous, which made our stay very pleasant. The bath area was compact, but we were able to relax and enjoy two different types of Onsen. My wife especially looked forward to the meals. There was a wide variety, and although we usually don’t eat much, we finished everything at breakfast and even had seconds of the tea rice porridge. This has become an Accommodation we’d like to visit again—thank you very much.
