It was a truly memorable trip.

I’ve visited Awaji Island many times, so I thought I’d already done all the sightseeing and that this trip would simply be about staying in the Room and enjoying the private open-air bath. However, the staff were very thoughtful—right after we arrived, they even took photos on the beach to celebrate a 70th birthday—and thanks to their care, we had a truly comfortable stay. In particular, it was unforgettable when they guided us to the shore during dinner to watch a vivid red sunset sink into the horizon and took photos for us, creating lasting memories. Dinner was delicious and easy for us to enjoy. For breakfast, we were able to relax and take our time with a Western-style meal at the restaurant, making it a wonderful trip overall. This is an Accommodation where we would love to stay again if we have the chance.

A cozy, well-balanced Accommodation in every way

Located on the tranquil southern part of Awaji Island’s west coast, facing a pine grove. The shoreline feels like an almost private beach on the Seto Inland Sea, where we could enjoy beautiful sunsets. The guest rooms follow a staggered Plan layout, offering a strong sense of privacy. The cypress open-air bath on the ocean-side terrace was truly relaxing, with excellent Onsen water quality. Every dish was carefully selected, with an ethnic touch, and everything was delicious. The system for making good use of the main building is also well designed, allowing us to spend time comfortably in a spacious area that blends seamlessly with the outdoors. If the many international staff members further improve their conversational fluency, it would be an impeccable Accommodation.

The BBQ in the dark was tough.

We chose the BBQ for dinner, but there was almost no lighting, so it was too dark to tell whether the meat was properly cooked, which felt a bit scary. We come every year looking forward to the BBQ, so it was disappointing this time.

    There were a few are...

There were a few areas I’d like to see improved. First, I noticed a fairly strong sewage-like odor near the entrance and in the washroom. Cleanliness and scent greatly affect the overall impression of an Accommodation, so I would appreciate it if you could check the drainage system and related facilities. Also, at the breakfast buffet venue, several flies were flying around, which raised hygiene concerns given that it is a dining area. I understand this may be seasonal, but more thorough pest control would make it easier to enjoy meals with peace of mind. One more point: the balcony of the mountain-side room felt quite visible from outside, and there was more concern about being seen than expected. Since it’s a space where you can enjoy nature, adding privacy measures such as discreet screening or planting that doesn’t detract from the view would make it more comfortable. I believe addressing these points would significantly improve comfort during stays, and I look forward to seeing improvements going forward.

Omi beef had a wonderful texture, with the fat gently breaking as you bite, and the marbling was perfectly balanced—delicious! Every conger eel dish was excellent. Instead of paella, it would have been nice to have plain white rice served with the meat. The peach dessert was also delicious! All the staff were courteous and attentive, and the service was great—I highly recommend it.

    The Facility is clean.

The food was delicious, and the Facility was clean, so we were satisfied. However, it was difficult to understand the service from the foreign staff, and we could not understand the explanations of the dishes. The staff refilling drinks did not greet us either, which felt unpleasant.

Awaji Island appealed to us, so we stayed at Awaji Hamarikyu Villa Takumi. In a Room with an open-air bath, we were able to enjoy the Uzushio Onsen in the Room. The meals were a well-crafted Japanese-Western fusion and delicious. The staff’s smiles were truly soothing. With a design that emphasizes privacy and a special feel, we were able to relax and unwind.

    A Luxurious Getaway

It was my first time staying here, and the staff were polite and very helpful. The view of Keino Matsubara and the sea was wonderful, and I was able to enjoy a truly luxurious time. I would love to visit again if I have the opportunity. Thank you very much.

    The best Accommodation!!

Just as the title says, this Accommodation was absolutely amazing in every way! Even before we arrived, they were waiting for us and kindly guided us to the parking area, then smoothly escorted us to the lobby. It was a bit of a walk from the main building to the annex, but from the moment we stepped in, the calm, crystal-clear atmosphere was so soothing. From the covered walkway you can see the sea through a pine grove, and even the lawn in the garden was beautifully maintained—everything felt spotless and impeccably clean. We checked in while enjoying a welcome drink in the lounge; all of the staff provided attentive service that never felt overbearing—just thoughtful and considerate. Dinner was served as a course meal, featuring exquisite dishes made with local Awaji ingredients and presented beautifully. The Western-style breakfast course was also outstanding. In particular, just as mentioned in other Reviews, the pot-au-feu was incredible. The lounge also had an excellent selection of high-quality alcohol, drinks, and food options, so we could truly relax at our own pace. Normally we would have needed to go out shopping for things, but this time everything we needed was available within the Accommodation—we were completely satisfied without leaving! The Room and amenities were perfectly prepared with nothing lacking, and having an open-air bath attached to our Room was fantastic! We would love to stay at Hamari-kyu again next time.

The spacious Room and the open-air bath in the Room were also excellent.

The Room was very spacious, clean, and wonderful. The private open-air bath in the Room was also excellent, and the large balcony was easy to use. It was a shame that it rained at night and we couldn’t see the stars, but it was great to be able to watch the sunset while having dinner.

I stayed here with my elderly parent who uses a wheelchair. Since it was Hamarikyu, I was looking forward to the Room as well. The view was amazing, and the open-air bath was excellent. However, the Room felt smaller than expected. The entryway space to park a wheelchair was tight, there were few handrails, and it didn’t feel suitable for seniors, which was disappointing. We stayed with four people, but the futons in the Japanese-style room were very thin and made my back hurt. I didn’t feel it was worth the price. The large public bath also wasn’t very spacious and had nothing particularly noteworthy. We used the welcome drinks after 9 p.m., but many of the drinks that were available at check-in were gone, and what ran out wasn’t replenished at all, which was very disappointing. That said, the food was delicious and the staff were polite and attentive, so we were satisfied with that aspect.

We had a relaxing stay at this resort with stunning views.

During my trip to Awaji Island last year, I met a lovely woman in the large public bath who told me, “I recommend the Accommodation at Hotel New Awaji in Keino Matsubara,” so I decided to stay here this time. Since we don’t have a car, Awaji Island can be a bit difficult to get around, so it was great that we could take the bus to Riku no Minato Nishiawaji and request the Shuttle Service. On the way back, we planned to visit the Otsuka Museum of Art, and they kindly drove us to the Nishiawaji Shichi bus stop—it was a huge help! (They even arranged the Shuttle Service around our bus schedule and let us relax in the lounge until departure time.) The lounge offers different drinks depending on the time of day, and both the alcohol and coffee were delicious. You can also enjoy café au lait made with Awaji Island milk! The view from the lounge was beautiful—such a luxurious time. It was a little chilly, but walking out to Keino Matsubara’s beach was also stunning. A great resort getaway close by. That said, I felt that the large public bath in the main building wasn’t facing the ocean; it felt more like an open-air bath overlooking an inner courtyard than what I had imagined. We were told in advance that our Room’s open-air bath would be set on the hotter side, but it felt even hotter than expected. They said they could adjust the temperature if we contacted reception, but since it was already late at night, we just used it as is. Our Room was on the mountain side, and waking up to that morning view felt wonderful. The morning bath was amazing too (I got used to how hot it was). For dinner we chose three-year fugu—both the carpaccio and hot pot were delicious. Plus an Awaji beef steak as well! It was an exceptional dinner. In the morning we couldn’t decide and ended up choosing breakfast buffet in main building. Even though we arrived right near closing time, they kept everything well stocked with local Awaji specialties, and we enjoyed plenty of delicious food. We had a wonderful holiday. Thank you again—we’d love to return!

It was a wonderful, memorable experience!

Every year, we stay here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The hospitality of the staff is outstanding, and we had a truly comfortable stay again this time. What moved us most during this stay was how the staff treated our 5-year-old child as “a valued guest,” just like any adult. It left a strong impression to see the staff greet our child at eye level and speak to them with genuine respect as an individual. Staying with children can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but here our whole family was able to relax from the heart. I wholeheartedly recommend this Accommodation to families who want to experience true hospitality. The staff are truly wonderful. Thank you very much. We requested a birthday cake, and we are always so happy about the photo you take for us at that time. The letter is also a treasured keepsake. We’ve been saying that next time we’d like to stay for two nights. Please let us stay again next year.

A Hotel I would like to stay at again.

The staff kindly accommodated our request to change the Room after arrival. The meal and service were both smart and pleasant, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience. After dinner, various drinks were available in the lounge, but it would have been nice to have paper cups provided so we could take coffee back to the Room and enjoy it leisurely. Paper cups were thoughtfully provided after breakfast for those going on a walk. On our way home, we realized we had lost something and contacted the Hotel. They searched thoroughly and informed us that it was found in the parking lot, then kindly sent it back to us. Thank you very much—it was a great help! This is definitely a Hotel I would like to visit again.

Accommodation with Stunning Views and Delicious Meals

We stayed as a three-generation family. The room's open-air bath was very relaxing, with a stunning view of pine groves and the coastline, where we could also enjoy the sunset. The meals were a perfect balance of Japanese and Western cuisine, allowing us to savor the flavors of Awaji Island. The leftover paella was kindly made into rice balls for us. For breakfast, we chose Western-style, and the pot-au-feu was exceptional. We also enjoyed using the facilities at Hamarikyu Main Building and would love to visit again. Nearby England Hill had cosmos flowers in full bloom, making our first trip to Awaji Island truly enjoyable.

Family Trip for Relatives in Their 70s

The atmosphere was very calm, allowing for a peaceful stay. Unexpectedly, there was a surprise of 200 fireworks at night. Dinner was a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine, leaving us full and satisfied. For breakfast, we chose the buffet but thought maybe we should have gone with the Japanese option instead. Located by the sea, the morning walk was incredibly refreshing. The stairs to the loft in the bedroom were a bit steep, which caught my attention slightly. Overall, it was an excellent accommodation for adults.

    Relaxed and enjoyed.

The room and onsen were worth the price. The room was too spacious for two people, so we spent most of our time sitting on the sofa, and the Japanese-style room ended up being just a storage space for our luggage (laughs). The open-air bath in the room was an onsen, which felt great on the skin and allowed us to enjoy a relaxing time. As for meals, perhaps we had too high expectations? Unfortunately, both dinner and breakfast were not satisfying. Dinner had a variety of dishes to enjoy, but the taste was average. The sashimi was fresh and delicious though. Next time we visit Awaji Island, we would like to stay at another accommodation within the same group.

    Extraordinary and Surprising Dinner

Villa Takumi is a favorite, and we keep coming back. This time, it was a summer trip before the school holidays with our lively grandchildren, their family, and my parents. However, I must mention the dinner menu on the second day—Awaji Chicken Sukiyaki in a small pot. From the start, I was concerned about the size of the pot. The service timing was extremely slow: after lighting the fire and waiting for the broth to boil, no ingredients arrived; when they finally did arrive and were added as instructed along with eggs, as directed—the broth overflowed and extinguished everyone's solid fuel flames one by one. This menu needs improvement; choosing such a small pot was not ideal. We hope to avoid such nerve-wracking experiences in future stays. Please consider making improvements. Unfortunately, we don't have any photos of this small pot due to how tense things were at that moment! On a brighter note, breakfast at Hamarikyu Buffet was excellent—a lineup that never gets boring even during Multiple Night Stays—and everything tasted wonderful. Overall very satisfied—thank you!

Enjoy a Resort Stay in Minami Awaji

During our stay last autumn, we admired the vast ocean view beyond the lawn and longed to visit in summer. Awaji Island is a popular tourist destination, bustling with cars from other prefectures early in the morning. This time, we stayed for a multiple night stay with our parents and children as a family trip. Since we had separate rooms, each family could relax at their own pace. We love Accommodation Takumi for its excellent hot springs, stunning views, and outstanding hospitality. The quality of the large public bath and private open-air baths was exceptional and became one of our favorites. Although many families were chatting lively in the lounge, it was no issue as sparkling wine could be brought back to the room. During dinner, we paused to enjoy watching the sunset at just the right moment—a natural attraction unique to Keino Matsubara's "Sunset 100 Selections." However, there were some concerns about meal arrangements. The children's menu was almost identical to that of adults', which was too much for our 6-year-old first-grader. Despite prior consultation about having Awaji Island noodles available as an à la carte option for kids, they were not offered on that day. Additionally, meals for adults were served very slowly; it felt frustratingly endless—similar to what we experienced last year during table service dinners here. We now understand why there’s an option without dinner included in their plans. To avoid exceeding bedtime for children due to delays during dinner service this time around—we requested desserts delivered directly into rooms instead—which turned out convenient! Complimentary rice & furikake provided separately also helped accommodate toddlers without meals included. On brighter notes: breakfast buffet at Hamarikyu impressed us again! With abundant fresh ingredients offering variety across both mornings—it remained delightful throughout every bite while avoiding monotony compared against Western-style dining alternatives within Takumi itself! Over two days spent running freely atop lush green lawns alongside splashing fun-filled moments between pools or beaches—the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves making unforgettable memories amidst such vibrant summer vacation experiences!

    A Room of Great Satisfaction

We stayed as a family of four, including my son’s family and my 2-year-old grandchild, during their temporary return to Japan. Since they wanted to enjoy an Onsen during their visit, we chose this accommodation. The maisonette-style room had a queen-size bed upstairs, which was perfect for sleeping with a small child. Thanks to the bathrobes and plenty of towels provided, we were able to fully enjoy the private open-air bath in the room. The meals were well-thought-out and delicious, with stylish use of tableware that added to the experience. The staff were very attentive and made our stay comfortable.

    A wonderful accommodation.

It was my first time staying on Awaji Island, and this accommodation exceeded expectations in every aspect. The clean and well-maintained room was equipped with all necessary amenities, and the semi-open-air bath with its silky water and the wooden terrace for napping provided a perfect way to relax both body and mind. If I may suggest, adding handrails to the open-air bath would enhance safety, and a magnifying mirror for face washing or shaving in the washing area would be ideal. Dining at the restaurant overlooking a garden of pine trees was delightful; dishes were elegantly presented on refined tableware, showcasing creative use of ingredients with exquisite flavors and combinations. The beautiful sunset added to the memorable experience. The breakfast featuring local ingredients was also delicious; however, having small plates for olive oil could make enjoying bread even better. Overall, including the attentive and pleasant service, it was an extremely comfortable stay.

This is probably my fourth visit. The sliminess on the bathroom floor is unpleasant. Overall cleanliness seems questionable. The first visit was great, but each time I come back, my satisfaction decreases. The food has also become less enjoyable.
