    Not warm at all.

    From check-in to the front desk staff, phone support, check-out, and even at the breakfast venue, the service felt completely lacking in warmth. It was strictly by the manual and felt robotic. I felt this Hotel relies on its location on Iriomote Island. I would like to visit Iriomote Island again, but I don’t think I would choose this Hotel again.

    If you’re looking fo...

    If you’re looking for international high-end in-room Facilities and very attentive service and hospitality, some Hotels on the main island or Ishigaki Island may be a better fit. That said, a simple comparison is difficult. When spending time on vacation, feeling “no sense of mismatch” matters most, and this Hotel’s approach—quietly blending into the World Heritage nature—is truly commendable in that respect. What stands out is that right near the Hotel you can enjoy the Milky Way and shooting stars, reefs that can only be crossed at low tide, and mangrove walks. One thing to note: these experiences are heavily weather-dependent. I strongly recommend staying multiple nights rather than just one. The weather improved from the second night onward, and we were able to see spectacular shooting stars. Also, because the staff seemed to enjoy these activities as a personal hobby rather than simply as tourism offerings, it would be wonderful if they shared more of that knowledge—long-stay guests would really appreciate it. In particular, one tall staff member who enjoys ball sports provided genuinely excellent, comfortable hospitality during our vacation. Having memorable staff like this is also a reason worth highlighting to visit.

    How to Use the Lobby

    During my stay, I saw a family of four eating cup noodles they had bought at the shop in the lobby on two occasions. They were probably trying to save money by not having lunch at the restaurant after swimming in the pool. The smell filled the lobby and made me feel sick. If that is how the parents behave, it is just as disappointing that staff did not say anything. Even if they ate by the pool it would be one thing, but is the lobby really a place to eat? Normally, they should eat in their Room. I was appalled.

    Surrounded by the sweet scent of peach pine

    During this season, the lobby of Iriomote Island Hotel was filled with the scent of peach vine. While it does not offer the all-inclusive, attentive service found at Resort Hotels on Okinawa Main Island or Miyako Island, Iriomote Island Hotel has its own unique comfort and is surrounded by magnificent nature. Once again, we were able to fully enjoy the scenery and atmosphere that can only be experienced here.

    This Hotel is different from many others.

    This is a thoroughly eco-focused Hotel. However, being on a remote island comes with challenges. On our return trip, the ferry was canceled due to bad weather, and the departure port changed from Uehara Port (which we had planned for) to Ohara Port, which required a 1-hour bus ride. The problem was that the internet connection in the Room was poor, so we had to keep going near the front desk—where reception was better—to gather updates and adjust our plans. Moving our departure time forward by more than an hour was very difficult. There was also no phone in the Room, which made it hard to ask for help or discuss anything. I strongly request improved connectivity in the Rooms. The appeal of this island is its wide variety of activities. You often end up muddy, sweaty, or wet, but there was only one type of shampoo in the Room and no body wash towel/scrubber, so I couldn’t wash properly. During towel replacement, my personal towel was taken away by mistake. I went to the front desk to ask for help, but until we left they kept saying it was “still under investigation.” Later they called me and said they found it and sent it by courier service; I am very grateful for that. Iriomote Island has many unique attractions, and as a Hotel this place is truly one of a kind—but it’s also somewhere you can only reach by connecting ferries and flights. I understand unexpected things happen on remote islands, but for travelers who can’t build extra buffer days into their schedule, this makes it a high hurdle. I felt the hospitality and service were poor overall, but their follow-up afterward made me reconsider. There are many places on the island with weak signal coverage; however, at Funauki Port—a secluded place reached by boat—my phone showed full bars instead. That actually made me more disappointed about how poor reception was inside my Hotel Room. Again: I strongly request better signal coverage in Rooms. I plan to visit Iriomote Island again—will things be improved next time? After a family played in the pool and rode the elevator while still soaking wet (leaving it dirty), staff cleaned it promptly; this point was better than other Hoshino group Hotels. The view of the sunset from the Room is spectacular—but since weather changes quickly on Iriomote Island whether you can see it clearly depends on luck, and there’s nothing anyone can do about that.

    Wonderful nature and staff

    The staff’s cheerful service and warm smiles were wonderful. Everyone’s smiles really lifted my spirits. It was hot even in April, so the complimentary drinks were very helpful. If there were a bit more variety in the meals for guests on a Multiple Night Stay, it would be even better.

    The Facility felt a bit worn with age. The restaurant staff were cheerful and wonderful; they taught us delicious ways to enjoy awamori, and we had a great time.

    Our warm and welcoming staff

    On my first stay on Iriomote Island, I visited for 5 nights and 6 days with almost no Plan, but joining the morning “Mangrove Stretch” and other activities such as guided walks within the Facility made it a truly fulfilling stay. Since transportation on the island is basically limited to a rental car or a bus that runs only five times a day, if you plan to have dinner at restaurants outside the Hotel, be sure to check whether Shuttle Service is available. In January, some restaurants may be closed due to the off-season, so making a Reservation in advance is recommended for peace of mind. As noted on the Hotel’s official website, I asked the staff for restaurant recommendations and enjoyed meals at a variety of places every day in addition to the Hotel restaurant—everywhere was creative and delicious. The spa treatments at the Hotel were also excellent and highly recommended! I was especially impressed by how energetic all of the Hotel staff were and by their warm, hospitality-filled service. There are even more activities in other seasons, so I would love to visit again.

    Please be prepared for emergencies.

    During my 4-night, 5-day solo stay, I became ill and called the front desk many times, but could not get through. Thinking about what would have happened in a real emergency was terrifying. On a remote island, a Hotel front desk can be a matter of life and death. While I was unwell and resting in my Room, housekeeping unlocked the door and came in. When I woke up, I was shocked to find a crow had entered the Room. The staff were polite and well-trained, but I was left with the impression that they would not be reliable if something happened.

    The Facilities and service were excellent, and I enjoyed a comfortable island stay from start to finish. All the staff greeted me pleasantly every time we met at the Hotel, and their explanations at check-in and check-out were thorough and truly wonderful.

    No matter when you visit, it’s always relaxing.

    This is my regular Accommodation on Iriomote Island. No matter when I visit, it always helps me unwind. I’m happy that the shop has a great selection of outdoor gear, and I end up buying something every time.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    We stayed for three nights. The Room and bathroom were spacious, so our family of four could relax comfortably. The complimentary pineapple and juice each day were truly delicious, and the sunset was breathtaking. The activities on Iriomote Island were amazing, and we would love to visit again.

    We enjoyed our stay.

    It was my first stay on Iriomote Island. Because of the eco policy, towels were limited to the bare minimum, and there was only one bottle that could be used as both shampoo and body soap. Some parts made me wonder, “Is this really eco…?” but on Iriomote Island, a World Natural Heritage site, I suppose this is to be expected. The breakfast and dinner buffets were a delight in both taste and presentation, and drinks including alcohol were included. The Orion beer was delicious too. In the lobby, there were complimentary services such as sanpin tea, hibiscus drinks, pineapple juice and cut pineapple, as well as sparkling wine service from the evening—everything was enjoyable. I had been looking forward to watching the sunset and stargazing at Tsukigahama Beach right in front of us, but unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate, which was disappointing. I’d love to try again next time—but with nature, you never know until you get there. The morning mangrove tour goes to the lower reaches of the Urauchi River on the left side of Tsukigahama Beach. A staff member explained the mangroves and wildlife very carefully, and we were able to see large crabs and stick insects as well—my son and all of us were very satisfied. The 45 minutes flew by. The nighttime World Heritage School sessions were also very informative, with excellent content that changed each day. Overall, it was a wonderful stay. We couldn’t make it to the evening jungle tour either, so I would definitely like to visit this Hotel again—I really love it here.

    The amenities were extremely disappointing.

    Although the website states that razors are provided, there were none. There was no nearby convenience store to buy one, and because I have a heavy beard, my companion said I looked like a thief, which upset me throughout my stay. Also, there was no hairbrush, and as for shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, there was only a single all-in-one product; it left my hair dry and frizzy. You may be promoting environmental efforts, but many trees on the grounds in front of the Hotel had been cut down, so it felt like nothing more than cost-cutting under the guise of being eco-friendly. There was no hairbrush either, and at times there was a strong sewage smell—so I will not be returning. The food was decent, though.

    Thank you for your continued support each year.

    I have been staying here every year for over 10 years to participate in the Yamaneko Marathon. Since becoming a Hoshino Resort, the selection at the shop has improved, the Room amenities have been upgraded to Osaji, and a drink bar has been added, which I personally find satisfying. This year was cold, but I had an enjoyable stay. Thank you very much.

    It was a rainy day, but

    February was colder than expected. Although the rainy weather was unfortunate, the meals were excellent, and the evening and nighttime cocktail hours were enjoyable. I look forward to visiting again in summer to swim in the pool during nice weather. The Hotel staff were all wonderful and very pleasant! It was a comfortable stay.

    I spent my New Year ...

    I spent my New Year holiday visiting Iriomote Island for the first time and stayed at Hoshino. Although the weather was unfortunate and I couldn't fully enjoy the true beauty of Iriomote Island, my stay at the Hotel was highly satisfying. The children enjoyed making Shisa figures with paper clay. The drink service offered a wide variety, including Sanpin tea, juice, Awamori, and more. The meals were delicious, family-friendly, and paired with Hoshino's excellent hospitality made for a wonderful experience. It seems that this season doesn't promise great weather, so I'd like to visit again in summer for a better experience. When that time comes, I would love to stay at Hoshino again!

    It was the best New Year's experience.

    I stayed at this accommodation to spend New Year's in a quiet place. Every evening and night, drinks were served, allowing me to relax while listening to the sound of waves on the beach. On New Year's Eve, there was live sanshin music and New Year's soba (Yaeyama soba) served, making it possible to welcome a wonderful new year.

    Environmental Measures

    Stayed for 2 nights at the end of the year. Despite being busy with many guests, all the staff were attentive and considerate, which was truly impressive. I could easily consult about matters during my stay, allowing me to enjoy my trip with peace of mind. While I appreciate and agree with the efforts toward environmental conservation in Iriomote Island, it would have been nice if there were a bit more amenities available. Amenities are also an important part of a Hotel stay.

    Wonderful Stay

    We stayed for two nights and had an amazing experience. There are so many highlights to mention. The staff were friendly in the best way possible, yet very kind and professional. Many of them showed a deep love for Iriomote Island. The environment around the Hotel was stunning, with sunsets and starry skies viewed from Todumari Beach being indescribably beautiful. The lectures on Iriomote wildcats and crested serpent eagles held every other day were fascinating and highly recommended. We also joined the "Play at Ida Beach" activity, where we enjoyed SUP and snorkeling—everything we saw and heard was delightful (even after checking out, we appreciated being able to freshen up in the Hotel's clean shower facilities). Efforts to care for the environment were evident in various ways, which made our stay not only comfortable but also meaningful without any inconvenience. Thank you very much!

    Restaurant: Highly Satisfying!

    A revisit after about 10 years since using it before it became a Hoshino Resort. Back then, the restaurant offerings were somewhat underwhelming, leaving us thinking, "Maybe not next time." This time, due to activity schedules, we had no choice but to have dinner at the Hotel... Completely different now!! Everything we ate was delicious! On top of that, unlimited Awamori and beer—an irresistible treat for drink lovers. Next time, I’d like to visit leisurely with a focus on enjoying the meals. One note: The further your Room is from the lobby, the weaker the mobile signal gets in some areas. This might make it difficult to contact guides or others; it's better to share your room number in advance or take other precautions. To the Hotel: Please consider measures like boosters or femtocells for better connectivity!

    The most comfortable Hotel

    Simply perfect, my favorite place. Relax by the pool while listening to the sound of waves and birds. The beach is nearby, and in the evening, enjoy a sunset event with sparkling wine in hand as you quietly watch the sun go down from your seat—such a luxurious experience. The restaurant's food was delicious; I enjoyed it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The shop also offers a great selection—I even bought an original T-shirt! This is a Hotel I absolutely want to visit again.
