    An Exceptional Stay Experience

    We booked the “Chef’s Choice Kura Twin” Plan and stayed in Room 101 of the MOSO building. The Room was a very comfortable size for two people. The beams, the safe room, and the steep stairs were all experiences you don’t usually get to have, so they felt truly special. The dinner we had been looking forward to was delicious. In particular, the rich flavor of Togeshita beef and the vivid colors of the corn bavarois appetizer left a strong impression. We chose an anniversary Plan, and we were delighted to see our requested message along with a ribbon. At breakfast as well, staff offered refills at just the right time, and they also knew we were staying on an anniversary Plan and kindly took photos for us—making it a very pleasant time. It was a stay that made us feel truly welcomed—both by the Accommodation and by the town! We also loved the Takehara Campbell juice listed on the lounge and restaurant drink menus. It’s grape juice, but I’d never tasted one with such clarity before. We had it again at a roadside station after checkout—and even bought more to take home. A couple of small things we noticed: Dust had collected in the basket in the washroom. Each time we entered to use the sink, the toilet lid sensor reacted and opened automatically; we would prefer it without automatic opening/closing.

    Sightseeing in the Historic Townscape

    I stayed here while sightseeing in the Takehara Historic Preservation District. The historic buildings have been beautifully renovated, and it felt calm and relaxing, as if staying in a traditional Japanese living room. I enjoyed a delicious meal at the annex. I also visited the former Morikawa residence, now a guesthouse, at night—the garden was well worth seeing. Thank you to the two staff members for your friendly, welcoming hospitality that made me feel at ease, like chatting with neighbors. It was a wonderful memory.

    Enjoy Takehara’s Historic Preservation District with NIPPONIA HOTEL

    Thanks to NIPPONIA HOTEL, we were able to fully enjoy the Takehara Historic Preservation District, known as the “Little Kyoto of Aki.” The moment we stepped into the district, the deep blue sky and charming streetscape created a soothing, extraordinary atmosphere… We left our luggage at the NIPPONIA HOTEL front building within the preservation district, had lunch with Takehara-yaki made with sake lees, then strolled around. Along the way, we took a break at VMG Café (the former Morikawa Residence, which becomes a guest-only lounge in the evening), enjoying tea and cake while admiring the garden… After that, we walked to Jizodo Hall and Fumeikaku on higher ground and all the way to Michi-no-Eki Takehara, also enjoying the scenery of the streets from dusk onward. We truly experienced what makes staying at NIPPONIA HOTEL so special. Dinner was a French course meal; from amuse-bouche to dessert, everything was beautifully presented, thoughtfully prepared with care for each ingredient, and delicious. In particular, the seasoning of breakfast dishes such as simmered items (nimono), lightly simmered vegetables (nibitashi), and grilled dishes was the best among all Accommodation breakfasts we have had so far. Also, our Room had a spacious garden and an extra-long veranda engawa), allowing us to spend nostalgic time that felt like coming back home.

    The atmosphere was nice, but it didn’t quite give me a reason to return.

    I stayed here during Golden Week. This Accommodation makes great use of a traditional Japanese house and blends beautifully with the historic streetscape, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. On the other hand, due to the building’s structure, I could easily hear flushing sounds from the neighboring unit’s toilet, and I also noticed some wobbling in the handrail on the steep staircase. Since I was hoping for an escape from everyday life, I felt that a bit more reassurance in terms of Facility upkeep would make the stay even more comfortable. The amenities were sufficient, but considering the price range and the wooden architectural concept, I thought it would feel more special if there were greater consistency in the details—for example, wooden toothbrushes or a more design-forward hair dryer. The hinoki bath had a lovely ambiance, but I was concerned that the shower holder may be deteriorating; its direction shifted depending on water pressure. As for dining, I could tell that quality ingredients were used. However, for French cuisine, I would have appreciated one more element of surprise or something memorable in terms of aroma or cooking technique. At breakfast, it was a shame that the grilled fish felt a bit dry and that the steamed rice seemed slightly too moist. Regarding service, it left a good impression that younger staff members were polite and attentive. However, at dinner there was about a 20-minute wait between being seated and receiving the first dish. If this is part of normal operations, it might be better to set the stated start time slightly later. Takehara itself is very charming—I could really feel its local character through things like salt-making and sake-brewing culture. If locally made items such as regional salt or Onomichi gin were available for purchase inside the Accommodation as well, it would further enrich the stay experience. Since nearby shops tend to close relatively early, I would also appreciate suggestions from the Accommodation on how to spend evenings. Overall, both the townscape and building had wonderful Japanese charm; however dinner felt like fairly standard French cuisine. Given the price range overall—if there were more consistency and attention to detail across Facilities , meals,, amenities,, etc.—I believe this could become an even more satisfying stay.. I'm looking forward to future improvements..

    Satisfied with the attentive service.

    Last time I only came for lunch, but this time I stayed overnight to celebrate an anniversary. It’s located within the Takehara Historic Preservation District, and there are many lovely buildings and restaurants within an easy walking distance, so I was able to relax and take my time. The Accommodation building and the restaurant are in separate buildings, but they’re just across the street. Stepping outside even briefly let me enjoy the atmosphere of the town, which was exciting. The Room we stayed in had a courtyard, with a calming vibe that made me want to just sit and gaze at it. It was beautifully lit up at night as well. The food was delicious; I switched to local cuisine and it was a great choice, and I left completely full. The drinks were also excellent. I’d love to visit again if I have the chance.

    It was a fun experience.

    My wife previously visited the Takehara Preservation District and said it was wonderful, so we stopped by on our way back from Etajima, Hiroshima. Several historic residences in the district have been renovated into Hotel club rooms, and it’s fun to stroll through the area while experiencing different houses and estates. Our room was on the second floor up a steep staircase and had a great view. The exposed ceiling beams were impressive. With multiple air conditioners installed and a clean renovation throughout, there was none of the discomfort sometimes associated with traditional old houses, and we stayed very comfortably. The bath was also a spacious hinoki-wood tub, which was very relaxing. We skipped dinner because we were tired after a long drive from the Kansai area to Etajima and meals during our Multiple Night Stay at Etajimaso. Breakfast was delicious. One complaint: regarding parking this time, even when I needed to contact someone urgently, I couldn’t reach the Accommodation directly and could only contact NIPPONIA HOTEL’s head office (?). I’d like to see this improved.

    Overall, it was very good. The concierge service was also excellent.

    What I liked (5 + a little extra) - I suddenly needed to bring a bouquet the next morning, and when I asked for help around after 6:00 p.m., they kindly accommodated my request. - I had planned to rent a bicycle, but had to cancel due to rain. The Cancellation Fee was waived. - The amount and quality of the meals were just right. - There were many young staff members, and their strong desire to provide heartfelt hospitality felt more comfortable than overly scripted service. - It’s great that you can enjoy an extraordinary getaway at a reasonable price. What disappointed me (only 2) I stayed in a Room on the 2nd floor, but there was only stairs, and I had to carry my luggage up and down myself. It was quietly tough. I stayed on an all-inclusive plan, but the alcohol selection was thinner than expected. Even though there is a wonderful traditional house lounge and I used it, they didn’t have champagne—or even sparkling wine. They also didn’t stock any well-known whiskies, and it closes at 9:00 p.m. Since I went after dinner, I could only really enjoy the lounge for about an hour. I wanted more time to enjoy such a lovely space… For reference, the alcohol provided in the Room was about three beers, one or so bottles of sparkling water, one small bottle of sparkling wine, and three to four small bottles of sake. At minimum, I would have liked whisky… It seems like you could request more extras, but they looked busy and I felt bad calling them… And honestly, I just wanted champagne as well… If the website had clearly stated “This is our lineup!”, I would have brought my own instead… Since I chose all-inclusive expecting an “extraordinary drinking experience in a traditional house,” the limited alcohol selection was my only real disappointment.

    A charming accommodation where you can experience the old Japan.

    We stayed for one night on Christmas Eve. What surprised us was the absence of any Christmas decorations in the town. The quiet streets at night were illuminated only by the gentle light of bamboo ornaments. While preparations for New Year were underway, with homes displaying traditional decorations like shimenawa and kadomatsu, there were no Western-style illuminations or Christmas trees to be found. NIPPONIA Hotel, located in such a townscape, has no TV or telephone but truly reminded us of how Japan used to be in the past. The Room 103 we stayed in was exceptional, offering a private garden and detached room exclusively for us—truly the best room available. We also appreciated that all beverages in the room were complimentary. The meals were delicious, and all staff members were kind and attentive. Although we felt uncertain when heading from the designated municipal parking lot to the front building at first, everything else afterward was smooth and comfortable. We loved this accommodation so much that we made another reservation to visit again with our daughter and her spouse as a group of four!

    It was great.

    The guest rooms and meals were excellent. However, the restaurant staff seemed not very familiar with the dishes or ingredients and lacked attentiveness. Enhancing staff training would make it even better.

    Nipponia Hotel Takehara Seien-cho

    Simply amazing! This one-building rental accommodation was a first for me. It felt like time-traveling back to the Edo period. The interior has been modernly renovated. The cuisine was excellent, offering an extraordinary escape from daily life. The sake pairing was outstanding as well. Although I arrived late, I was still able to fully enjoy my stay.

    Very convenient for walking around the city.

    Located in a preserved district, making it very convenient for sightseeing. The room was the closest to the entrance, which was very convenient. The restaurant building was directly in front, so even those with no sense of direction could easily find it. The meals were delicious. Thank you for accommodating my request regarding not being able to eat sashimi or raw food. The onion potage was so tasty that I wanted to take some home with me. However, I felt slightly disappointed that Spanish mackerel was served both at dinner and breakfast. Accommodations like this often don't have TVs for relaxation purposes... While I can turn off the TV when I don't want to watch it, personally, I'd prefer watching news or weather forecasts on TV rather than using my smartphone, so I found this a bit inconvenient. Lastly, thank you very much for the champagne!

    Family Trip

    We stayed here for a family trip after our child's exams, the first in several years. The Facility had a wonderful atmosphere, was very comfortable, and allowed us to spend meaningful time together. All the staff were kind and provided attentive service, which we were very satisfied with. Personally, I believe that enjoying a large public bath is one of the highlights of traveling. While the Room's private bath was nice, having a large public bath would have made it even better. Thank you very much!

    A Journey to Fully Enjoy Little Kyoto, Takehara

    NIPPONIA, your trusted choice. Each location offers a unique charm and a fresh sense of joy. At the end of the year, we headed west to escape the cold, but an unexpected cold wave brought unforeseen chilliness. Although the building is old, it has been perfectly renovated, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable two-night, three-day stay. What always stands out is the excellent hospitality of the staff and the delicious meals that make abundant use of local ingredients. This time, we had dinner on the first night and breakfast on both days. While the dinner was perfect, especially with the wonderful pairing of local sake, the breakfast seasoning felt a bit too strong for my taste. Perhaps it's just a matter of personal preference. The staff, though a bit unpolished at times, conveyed their earnestness, maintaining their usual likability. Now, where shall we visit next in NIPPONIA?

    Thank you for your hospitality the other day. I was happy that the portion size of the dinner was just right, and I could finish it all. There were plenty of free drinks in the Room, which was delightful, but it was a bit disappointing that there were no snacks or sweets. As for the Room wear, there was loungewear available, but since I was staying in the preserved area of Takehara, I requested a yukata. Thank you for accommodating my request at that time. I am also interested in other NIPPONIA Hotels, so if I have the chance... Thank you in advance.

    Consideration

    From check-in to check-out, the concierge and staff at various locations were friendly and approachable, making us feel their thoughtful hospitality. The excitement of staying in a historic building was also truly wonderful. I believe it is perfect for an adult getaway. Due to the nature of the historic building, some guests might be concerned about soundproofing, such as noise carrying, but I recommend using the Property with this understanding in mind.

    The atmosphere was great as it is a renovated traditional Japanese house. However, since it is an old house, the stairs were a bit steep, making it a bit scary to go up and down to the bedroom on the second floor. The hospitality and meals were satisfying. As it was my second stay, I appreciated the thoughtful gesture of an extra dessert after the main dessert during dinner.

    I was able to relax even though it was raining!

    I had a relaxing and peaceful stay at the Property, quietly nestled amidst the beautiful cityscape. However, the sounds from outside were surprisingly audible inside the Room. It would be great if the amenities like shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were provided in take-home sizes, allowing guests to enjoy the experience even after returning home. All the drinks in the Room were in glass bottles, but having water in a plastic bottle would make it easier to drink during the night. (Using a bottle opener in the dark at night was a bit challenging as I’m not used to it.) The level of cuisine was excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this historic Facility!

    A carefree solo trip

    I chose this Property to relax on a solo trip. The meals were great! They were truly delicious! I could feel the staff's genuine desire to provide hospitality! It was a space where I could spend my time leisurely.
