    Overthinking has backfired.

    I was really looking forward to it, expecting a small-luxury vibe, but there were quite a few things that bothered me. [What I liked] The Room is spacious Plenty of bottled water provided Pajamas provided Separate toilet and bath Large bath with a rain shower The green tea is delicious Welcome drink (the bar is wonderful) [What was disappointing] A physical key (honestly, I was surprised) The Room is dark (might suit people who want to stay cocooned) The green tea was good, but only green tea—no other teas provided No coffee either (I went to a convenience store in the morning to buy some) The sink / mini-kitchen area is stone, but the material felt not very hygienic A thick bathrobe isn’t really necessary these days A tension rod is used to support the mirror in the toilet [About hospitality] At check-in, I was told that one of the bedside lights was broken. Once I entered the Room, it became clear that given the layout and how the other lighting works, this single broken light ruined the entire mood. Frankly, it was unpleasant. They should have offered another Room or provided an alternative light with matching brightness. The Accommodation fee had been prepaid, but normally this would warrant an upgrade or a partial refund. I put up with it because it was only one night, but it doesn’t make me want to return. Also, I had mentioned that this stay was for my birthday—this part disappointed me most. What does hospitality mean for a Hotel? I requested a quiet Room with a good view, but because it’s so dark inside, when I opened the window I could clearly hear loud noise from an artificial waterfall at the Hotel behind. Wouldn’t Rooms on the opposite side—with two window panes—be better? I understood that this Room type wouldn’t have a view of Nijo Castle, but overall this wasn’t great. This time I chose it because it’s a relatively new Hotel and I had been really looking forward to enjoying my one-night stay—but for anniversaries or special occasions, I probably won’t use it again. Guiding guests to a Room with broken Facilities on an anniversary is simply too disappointing; I can’t recommend it to others. I’ve stayed in many places in Japan and overseas—from affordable options up to those costing over 1 million yen—and while this place has a great location and some strong points, there are many missed opportunities here.

    The Facility design is more antique-inspired.

    Being close to Nijo Castle and having a mirror and space for putting on a kimono were my conditions for choosing this Hotel. I will list the good points and bad points in order. Please read to the end. ----Good points---- - It met my requirements. - The staff brought a phone adapter and a blanket to my Room. - The amenities were good. The towels were fluffy. Even with my sensitive skin, the shampoo and conditioner were fine. The drinks were also quite good. -----Bad points---- - A foul smell like sewage sometimes came into the Room from the washroom (toilet?) (the worst). - The heating setting on the air conditioning stayed on “preparing,” and it was far too cold, so I asked the staff to adjust it (since it’s centrally controlled). As a result, when it got too warm, I had to open the window to deal with it (I have hay fever, but I also felt bad about asking again). - When I turned the handle, water suddenly came out of the overhead shower. At times, a large amount of almost-scalding hot water came out of the faucet, and overall it’s not intuitive to operate. I stayed two nights, but until the end I still couldn’t clearly figure out how to adjust the temperature or switch between overhead shower/hand shower/faucet. Coming back tired and having to deal with this was depressing. - Even with all five lights on, it’s dark. Since there is no centralized control, turning lights on/off is inconvenient. My Room had a window so it wasn’t an issue during daytime. - There are no drawers or closet for clothes—only a hanging rack—so I ended up putting my luggage on the desk or bed. - The pajamas were torn. The urban color scheme and materials are stylish, but because the design leans more antique-like than practical, as a senior like me I often found myself struggling with functionality. If you like that kind of space, you may enjoy it.

    We enjoyed the sauna at this wonderful Hotel.

    I stayed on the Plan with a sauna. Check-in was at 3:00 PM, but I arrived around 1:30 PM to leave my luggage, and I really appreciated that you were able to show me to my Room right away. I booked a standard Room, and it was next door to the sauna Room, which made it easy to go back and forth and very comfortable. The sauna was very clean, and I was happy that the amenities were Aesop and the hair dryer was ReFa. It was also nice that we could bring the welcome drink back to the Room, which helped us relax. The sauna itself felt great and was very relaxing. The only disappointment was that we were told we could enjoy the sauna from check-in until check-out, but when I tried to use it in the morning, the power was off and I couldn’t use it. There wasn’t an instruction manual either; since it had been running automatically when we arrived, I didn’t know how to operate it and felt a bit stuck. Other than that, everything was very comfortable, and I think this Accommodation is highly recommended for sauna lovers.

    The room was suitable for solo travelers.

    Stayed in a Standard Double Room for 3 nights. As a solo traveler, the room size was sufficient, but it might feel quite cramped for two people. The lack of a dressing area and the need to close the partition door in the middle of the room may not be ideal for two guests. **Highlights:** - The bathroom was spacious and separate from the toilet, which I appreciated as someone who enjoys soaking in hot water at night. The bathtub was large and deep, allowing me to fully relax. - Water bottles were almost unlimited! Despite being alone, four bottles were stocked daily and replenished regularly. There was also a note saying to contact reception if more were needed—very thoughtful service. **Areas for Improvement:** - The room was darker than expected. While I didn’t book a Nijo Castle view room, there wasn’t much natural light coming in at all. Since sunlight is important to me personally, I’d rate this aspect 3 stars out of 5. - A minor point: the hairdryer felt cheap compared to other amenities like the stylish Balmuda electric kettle. A better-quality hairdryer could enhance guest satisfaction. - It would have been nice if welcome drinks could be enjoyed in-room as an option; going down to drink alone at the bar felt inconvenient so I ended up skipping it altogether. - On my second night, there seemed to be water leaking from the ceiling in the lobby area with wet floors below it. There weren’t any warnings or notices about this issue—some action or communication would have been appreciated. **Overall Impression:** This is an ideal room for solo travelers who spend most of their time sightseeing but want something slightly more spacious and comfortable when they return at night. Cleanliness and staff service were satisfactory with no major complaints on those fronts. However, considering that access from nearby stations isn’t particularly convenient either, location might be less appealing for solo travelers looking to explore multiple areas efficiently. Personally though—I’d love another stay here next time with a Nijo Castle view!

    Clean, well-located, and excellent!

    I made a reservation through the New Year's campaign. I don't usually write reviews, but it was so good that I decided to share my experience. The location, cleanliness, design, and service were all excellent. Next time, I would love to stay in a room with a Nijo Castle view.

    Everything was very satisfying except for the price.

    You can enjoy watching people jogging around Nijo Castle in the morning and admire the beautiful changes in the sky before sunset in the evening. The room was the largest, making it very comfortable. While not an Onsen, the bath was pleasant and relaxing. The front desk staff provided calm yet courteous service, leaving a good impression. Apart from feeling that the price is slightly high for a location not particularly convenient for sightseeing or dining, there were no complaints at all.

    I had a peaceful and relaxing stay.

    The entrance, reception, and Room interiors of the Hotel are all unified with chic decor. The space was as quiet and calming as the interior design itself. Instead of a typical card key, entry is managed with a beautifully designed key, which added a charming touch. However, since it is not auto-locking, I had to be careful not to forget to lock the Room after entering—though it’s easy to overlook. The Room's indirect lighting was soothing, and the bathroom was excellent as well. It featured a spacious bathtub, rain shower, handheld showerhead, and stylish tiles reminiscent of overseas Hotels. I would definitely love to stay here again!

    Everything was perfect, allowing us to fully enjoy the serene charm of "Unhurried Kyoto."

    I stayed in the top-floor suite "Matsu" at this hotel, a room I had always dreamed of staying in since its opening!! The view of Nijo Castle right in front of me felt like a dream throughout my stay. On this day, there was an event called NAKED at Nijo Castle, and it was beautifully lit up at night. Seeing the special nighttime view of the castle was truly moving. As for the room: The shower water pressure was excellent, and the jacuzzi helped relieve my fatigue from sightseeing. The towel dryer was very convenient as it dried towels quickly. The shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hand soap were all from Aesop, leaving my skin and hair feeling smooth and shiny. I even plan to purchase Aesop products for use at home. Complimentary bottled water was provided in the room, which saved me from having to buy any at convenience stores. This allowed me to travel with lighter luggage—very helpful! Other amenities included toothbrush sets, cotton pads, combs, slippers, etc. Additionally, there was a Balmuda kettle in the room. Using a Nanbu iron kettle with it made for an enjoyable tea time. Both the front desk area and inside the rooms were filled with books. As someone who loves reading regularly, enjoying some reading time with Nijo Castle as a backdrop from such a lovely room felt extraordinary. Usually during trips I hardly spend much time relaxing in accommodations; however, this time I spent leisurely moments inside because this hotel is so wonderful. Reflecting on those elegant times now feels like recalling truly special moments. As for perks: Guests received complimentary welcome drinks. I enjoyed one drink at their stylish bar on the first floor (open until around 11 PM if I recall correctly). After walking around under summer heat while sightseeing earlier that day, the drink tasted amazing and felt incredibly refreshing. One highlight of staying here is witnessing breathtaking sunsets visible directly from within your room—the sunset overlapping with Nijo Castle created an unforgettable view. All staff members at reception were kind-hearted creating such pleasant vibes overall! During check-in process they showed us how-to-use blinds via short two-minute video making everything easy-to-understand too! Being close-by station makes location super convenient—it’s undoubtedly among best hotels ever experienced hence guaranteed repeat visit next-time surely! Looking forward booking different type-of-room exploring alternative angles enjoying views over majestic-Nijo-Castle again soon!

    Right in front of Nijo Castle.

    Located in front of Nijo Castle, it offers excellent accessibility and is highly recommended. The Hotel does not have a restaurant, only a bar. Breakfast can be enjoyed on the first floor with prior request for Western-style meals. However, there are nearby places to have breakfast as well. We personally went to the Mitsui Hotel next door for meals or opted for takeout. Additionally, there is a Michelin-listed restaurant called Ichihana nearby where we got bento boxes and kamameshi takeout—it was delicious!

    We had a wonderful stay! We will visit again.

    It was a very nice stay, and thank you for accommodating our requests as much as possible. The room was clean, and having a bath in the room was very nice. If I have the opportunity to visit Kyoto again, I would love to stay at the property. The bar on the first floor is a great place to relax, and the staff are all very kind. There are just two points I would like to see improved: the internet in the room was too weak to work at all (it was comfortable in the lobby on the first floor), and the mattress and pillows were too hard, making it difficult to sleep comfortably. There are many comments about the room being dark, but since it is a room with indirect lighting, those who are not fond of it might feel that way. I personally love indirect lighting, so I was very satisfied! I will visit again—thank you for the wonderful hospitality!
