We were extremely satisfied.
The large public bath was even better than I expected. I wanted to stay in forever, but I didn’t want to overdo it, so I kept it moderate. Not only were the fireworks at night wonderful, but the scenery at dawn was also beautiful—I had a truly relaxing holiday.

This is the perfect Onsen Resort Hotel. We stayed at “Kokonoe” on August 30, and
The front desk staff welcomed us with exceptional kindness. The Room was spacious and spotless, with a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Toya. In the private open-air bath, we could soak in the Onsen while fully enjoying the spectacular scenery of Lake Toya. The open-air bath in the large public bath on the top floor was at the perfect temperature—never too hot—so we could relax without having to step out repeatedly. Looking down over Lake Toya from the infinity bath, we felt completely refreshed in both body and mind; it was truly outstanding. The dining was also excellent. The dinner buffet featured an abundant selection of fresh sashimi and nigiri sushi, including scallops, sea urchin, and shrimp. There were also hot dishes such as grilled crab legs and steak—all you can eat. Breakfast offered a wide variety of seafood as well, including raw surf clams and sweet shrimp, and our whole family was thoroughly satisfied with the meals at “Kohan no Sumika.” I have stayed at more than 70 Japanese Onsen Ryokan so far, but “Kohan no Sumika” is one of the few Hotels that I can say I absolutely want to return to. Thanks to the warm hospitality of all the staff, our family enjoyed an unforgettable and perfect stay. Thank you very much. 2. Business Courtesy Version (more formal and polite tone) This is a flawless Onsen Resort Hotel. I stayed at “Kohan no Sumika” on August 30. The front desk service was extremely courteous, and the Room was spacious, impeccably clean, and well maintained. From the guest Room we could enjoy sweeping views of Lake Toya, and in the private open-air bath we were able to savor both the Onsen experience and the beautiful scenery of Lake Toya to our heart’s content. The top-floor open-air bath had a wonderfully comfortable temperature that allowed for a long soak without overheating. Relaxing while looking down over Lake Toya from the infinity Onsen made for an exceptionally luxurious moment of calm. Dinner was highly satisfying: along with plentiful fresh sashimi and nigiri sushi—such as scallops, sea urchin, and shrimp—there were also all-you-can-eat options like grilled crab and steak. Breakfast likewise included seafood such as raw surf clams and sweet shrimp, leaving our entire family very pleased with its quality. Although I have stayed at more than 70 Japanese Onsen Hotels to date, “Kohan no Sumika” is one of those rare outstanding Accommodations that I would very much like to visit again. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for everyone’s warm hospitality; thanks to you all, our family enjoyed a truly perfect time together.

Amazing view! Dinner could be better.
This was my fourth stay. The views—both from the large public bath and from the Room terrace—are as good as it gets, and they alone make the stay worthwhile. However, the dinner buffet still feels one step short of matching that view. The sashimi and sushi were delicious, but it might be better not to offer crab with little meat or whelks with sand in them. As for the lounge service, the take-away beer for your Room is no longer available, and the snacks also feel like a downgrade compared to before. Since I want to spend as much time as possible in a Room with such an amazing view, I would appreciate it if check-in could be moved from 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. It was also disappointing that there is no service at all for guests who arrive early—at least tea service would be nice. Overall, the lounge service felt too minimal. Also, some of the restrooms on the Sun Palace side were unusable, and there is too big a gap in quality compared with the Lakeside Wing. That said, even taking these points into account, the views and baths are wonderful, so I hope you will continue operating without lowering your standards. I will definitely keep staying here.

A top-class small luxury Hotel
This was my third stay—first in autumn, second in spring, and this time in summer. This Hotel was my first experience with the “small luxury” concept. Since then I’ve tried various Hotel brands, but this one still stands out as truly top-class. The Rooms are solid yet simple in design, the layout and flow are excellent, the large public bath offers multiple open-air baths, and the view of Lake Toya changes beautifully throughout the day. The Japanese-course dinner is wonderful, but it could aim even higher. Breakfast is flawless! The buffet has plenty of thoughtful touches, but it’s not a style I personally prefer. They were doing construction for an expansion planned for next year, and I really hope they will elevate the restaurant to a more upscale level—perhaps even adding teppanyaki. The shuttle bus service from Sapporo is also invaluable. That said, I was a bit disappointed to be asked at check-in how many times I had visited. As a repeat guest, I would like to see more recognition and appropriate service.

There were a lot of question marks.
I was surprised to see an older couple loading their suitcases into their car while the parking/entrance attendant looked away and did not assist. As for the meals, the buffet section felt questionable for the price.

Fireworks Display
The daily fireworks from spring through autumn were wonderful. We recommend staying on a higher floor. The fireworks launch right in front of you.

What a waste.
This Accommodation offers a stunning view of Lake Toya right from the entrance. The lake view from the lobby is also wonderful. You can even see the fireworks from the Room, so overall satisfaction with the view is excellent. We used the pool at the neighboring Sun Palace, but it was terrible. Perhaps they are still repairing damage after a disaster—the ceiling had collapsed, and while that may be unavoidable, the changing room was flooded. Isn’t it cleaned during operating hours? Dinner was also on Sun Palace’s dedicated floor. I thought the food itself was good. However, after we finished what had been set on our table at first, no one came to clear it away, so after going to get items from the buffet we didn’t know what to do. Even when we tried to call someone over, there were no staff around… We finally found someone and had them clear it. If there were a cart for guests to place dishes on ourselves, we could have done that—but there were only staff carts. At breakfast, a young male staff member worked hard to clear dishes. I went to the large public bath early in the morning—less than 30 minutes after opening. Even so, there were many insects in the open-air bath… I understand it can’t be helped, but it was a bit disappointing. Insects quickly came to our Room’s open-air bath as well, so perhaps they are attracted by hot water. I wish we could have dined at Lake no Sumika. It made me wonder if they might be short-staffed.

We had an amazing time.
The understated hospitality was truly comforting, and I had an amazing stay. There was no forced or showy “we’re providing great service” vibe at all—everything felt genuinely natural, and it really moved me. I also place great importance on having plenty of towels and high-end amenities, and while many Hotels have been simplifying these lately, everything here was perfectly provided with nothing lacking or excessive, and I felt this Hotel truly values its guests. They even made excellent preparations for watching the fireworks, and looking back later, I realized there were many thoughtful touches that made me think, “So that’s what it was,” and left me impressed. And of course, the wonderful infinity bath was outstanding. Next time, I’ll visit in winter. Thank you in advance.

A Hotel Chosen by Lake Toya Fans
This was our third or fourth stay, and we keep coming back because this Hotel truly embodies heartfelt hospitality. The staff’s warm, attentive service is wonderful and always makes us want to return. The Onsen on the top floor, with its panoramic views, was deeply relaxing. We also enjoyed delicious meals while looking out at Mt. Yotei and the lake. The menu felt a little different from our last visit, but the Japanese-focused dishes were especially appreciated for our age group. This time our Room was on the first floor for the first time (we mistakenly made a Reservation for the garden type), but the view of Lake Toya from there was surprisingly nice as well. When visiting Lake Toya, we would love to stay here at “The Lake Suite Ko no Sumika” again. Thank you very much to all the staff.

Astonished by the breathtaking views and the Facilities designed with the scenery as the top priority.
The building is perfectly positioned so that no man-made structures come into view from the windows, except for small sightseeing boats in the distance. The service and cleanliness were impeccable. Unfortunately, the buffet venue has no view, but the quality, quantity, and variety of the food were among the best I’ve seen for a buffet. The price isn’t exactly cheap, but considering the experience you get from your stay, I felt it was great value. Highly recommended.

Good value Accommodation
We booked this Accommodation because it was said to have a great view of Lake Toya from the Room and that we could also see the fireworks well. After we arrived, we were told, “You can only see the fireworks from the Room for 5 to 10 minutes,” which was very disappointing. When making the Reservation, I mentioned that I was looking forward to the fireworks and asked for a Room with a good view, so it would have been helpful to be informed of this in advance. The bathroom in the Room had dirty glass and the bathing area looked darkened and grimy, so I didn’t feel like using it. Meals required moving to a neighboring Hotel connected by a corridor, which felt unsettled. I knew beforehand it would be a buffet, but the food was just average. I felt I had chosen the wrong Hotel. However, my impression changed after using the panoramic bath on the 8th floor. The view from that bath was truly wonderful. It’s true we couldn’t see all of the fireworks, but we were able to watch the final finale straight ahead from our Room. And the next morning’s view of Lake Toya from our Room was breathtaking. Since this Accommodation was cheaper than where we usually stay, some aspects may be understandable, but I think there is room for improvement. For that reason, I would describe it as an “Accommodation with good value for money.”

The Room was nice, but...
The Room was very clean and nice, but the staff at the entrance (parking guidance) and the staff during breakfast were extremely unpleasant (they seemed very irritated), so we left without eating. It was disappointing because the semi-open-air bath in the Room and the location were excellent.

Disappointed with the meals
The meals were a very ordinary family-friendly buffet. For some reason it was called a “half-buffet,” and four dishes were set on the table in advance, but this wasn’t necessary. At check-in, many guests had to wait in the lobby until the last minute at 3:00 PM. Only the fireworks were really great.

Our stay at Lake no ...
Our stay at Lake no Sumika was the most memorable part of our trip to Hokkaido. The view of Lake Toya from our Room was truly beautiful, and we were able to relax and enjoy how the lake’s scenery changed throughout the day. The Facility and guest Room were very comfortable, making it feel like staying in a quiet private villa. Soaking in the Onsen while taking in the stunning view was a deeply relaxing and wonderful experience. If we have the chance to visit Hokkaido again, we would definitely like to stay at Lake no Sumika once more. It is also a Hotel we can confidently recommend to family and friends.

It would be perfect if the dining arrangements were a bit more thoughtfully planned.
The service, Room, and Onsen are close to top-tier, but the issue is the dining. I understand there are differences depending on price, but having everyone eat in the same venue raises questions. There are also visible differences in the dishes lined up at the start, and the long buffet-style line for scrambled eggs feels like an imitation of some luxury Hotel. Guests accept a buffet when choosing a Hotel, so if you are going to separate meal tiers, I think there should at least be some ingenuity—such as using partitions. It also seems construction has started next door for another Hotel in the same group, so these disparities will likely become even more noticeable. If you differentiate meals by tier, it would be better to separate guests and ensure they cannot see other tiers’ dishes; keeping only the buffet items common to everyone would be fine. There is nothing luxurious about scrambled eggs at all, and I don’t want waiting time for meals—why not consider a different way of serving them? In short: it’s such a waste. It’s a good Hotel.

The atmosphere is nice, but the service could be a bit better.
The Facility, including the entrance, lobby, and guest rooms, is clean and has a luxurious feel. However, the staff’s service level does not match the price. For example, the welcome on arrival and the fact that a children’s plate was not prepared despite prior notice. The meals are average. If you offer a half-buffet, it would be better to make the menu feel more upscale, or alternatively make it an all-buffet; as it is, it feels somewhat half-hearted. Overall, the atmosphere is nice, but if hospitality—including service level—improves a bit more, I think guest satisfaction will also increase.

Wonderful
It was my first time at Lake Toya, and even though I’ve just returned home, I already can’t wait to go back. The bath in the Room, the fireworks perfectly framed from the terrace, the meals, and the staff’s service—everything exceeded my expectations. I will definitely visit again soon.

The corner room was excellent.
We were able to travel from Sapporo using the Hotel’s free Shuttle Service, and the journey (over two hours) included one rest stop along the way, which was very convenient. We stayed in a corner Room, so we could enjoy views in two directions, and the Room also had a private Onsen. At night, we were able to watch the fireworks from inside the Room almost from start to finish. There is also a large public bath on the top floor with a spacious lake view. If you use the Shuttle Service for your return trip, please note that it departs quite early—around 9:45 a.m. This was a bit too early for us, so we took a taxi to the station afterward. The only slightly disappointing part of our stay was how luggage was handled. After the Shuttle Service arrived, Hotel staff spoke very politely to a couple ahead of us and helped carry their one small suitcase (their only piece of luggage). However, we had two large suitcases, one small suitcase, and backpacks, but no assistance was offered. As a result, my husband ended up pulling both large suitcases by himself. If you want to store your luggage after checkout, you need to carry it yourself to an adjacent Hotel. To get there, we had to take three suitcases through a narrow door again without any staff proactively offering help. After we asked a male front-desk staff member for assistance, he arranged for a female staff member to help us. For this class of Hotel/Accommodation, this felt somewhat unusual in terms of service.

Wi‑Fi signal is unstable.
The view, Facility, and service were excellent, but it was disappointing that the Wi-Fi signal was unstable. We had trouble because we couldn’t communicate as a group via LINE calls. In today’s world, I hope you will place more importance on internet connectivity.

The large public bath is well worth experiencing at least once.
The open-air feel and spectacular views from the large public bath are well worth experiencing at least once. The lukewarm deep bath was just right whether standing or sitting, and I was able to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. However, there were some disappointing aspects regarding the meals, guest rooms, and amenities, and I hope these will improve. A new annex is currently being built next door, and we were told it will have higher-quality rooms. It was my first time staying at an Accommodation where you can watch fireworks right in front of you from the terrace, and it was a great experience. When checking out, a staff member cleaning the room next door cheerfully greeted me with a smile saying, “Thank you very much!”, which made me happy.

A restaurant that feels like it’s floating on the lake
The view of Lake Toya from the lobby as you enter was, of course, wonderful, but what impressed me most was dinner at the restaurant “Toya”—it felt as if we had been led to a dining room floating on the lake, and I was truly moved. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, and with fresh ingredients, a beautiful setting, and delicious sake, we were extremely satisfied. If I have the chance to visit Hokkaido again, I would love to return.

Excellent value for money
This was our second stay. Last time (the year before last) we stayed for 3 nights, and this time for 2 nights. Our previous stay was so wonderful that we wondered if nostalgia might be influencing us, but once again it turned out to be an amazing trip. It was a shame we couldn’t book the kaiseki course, but even with the buffet, it’s rare to find an Accommodation of such high quality. We’ll definitely be back.

Disappointed with the view from the lower floor.
As others have mentioned, the view from the lower floors is terrible, and it felt almost like a scam. I made a Reservation for a standard Room, not a garden room, but was placed on the 2nd floor with what was basically a garden view. The moment we entered the Room, it looked nothing like the photos, and my family and I were like, “Wait… what is this?” Even for the fireworks, we had to crouch to see them and couldn’t view the whole display. Paying the same rate as higher floors for this made me feel deceived. If being assigned to a lower floor is purely luck of the draw, shouldn’t Rooms on floors 2–3 be priced differently? The breakfast and dinner buffet was also difficult because we had to travel to the venue at Sun Palace using elevators, stairs, and connecting corridors. It made me think we should have stayed at Sun Palace instead. Also, the washing area in the large public bath was so cold it felt almost like an open-air bath area; my companion was shivering. Elderly guests and families with children should be careful. The staff were very polite and kind. However, overall it did not match the quality expected at this price range. I won’t return, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

There are many Rooms...
There are many Rooms, but cleaning is thorough and everything is spotless. The large public bath is spacious and designed to make the most of the view; it would be even better if there were a smaller tub where you could enjoy free-flowing Onsen water a bit more. The in-Room Onsen was operated by a button and filled from beneath the tub with no faucet, and it only allowed time control of either 5 or 15 minutes, which made it inconvenient to use. This Hotel is attached to a large main building, and the dining area is quite far away. With many guests around, it may not suit those who want a quiet stay, but the dining space itself is roomy, and the buffet style seems great for families. I left something behind and called right away, but I could only reach the Reservation center. The response felt unhurried and not very traveler-focused, which was disappointing.

Accommodation with an outstanding view from the Room
This was my first stay, and I truly appreciated it. The view of Lake Toya from the Room and the open, airy feel of the in-room open-air bath were wonderful. The Room was spacious as well, allowing for a relaxing, high-quality stay. Bathing in the large public bath while looking out over Lake Toya also felt wonderfully liberating and comfortable. The complimentary Sapporo Classic service was another good point. One small disappointment was that the connecting corridor to Toya Sun Palace Resort & Spa (the dining venue) had a smell like disinfectant. I would like to see this improved. Also, if the dining menu could be refined a bit more and the quality further enhanced, I think it would be perfect.

About greetings.
The greetings are always impeccable. Every time I stay, I feel the same way: from the moment I arrive at the Hotel, whether it’s the staff at the drop-off area or at the front desk, seeing everyone’s smiles (including those of international staff) makes me feel like I’m coming home and puts me at ease. Greeting guests may seem like a given, but... Still, after staying at a few other Hotels, I was reminded just how different it is here. I truly love this Hotel.

The meals were very disappointing.
The Room and the view are amazing! The service is also very attentive! However, the food was honestly quite disappointing. The sashimi had a strong frozen taste, and the steak was tough! The only thing that tasted good was the rice! At breakfast, even the salmon roe ran out at times, which was a shame given how great the view is. It felt like there weren’t many Japanese guests, and the services were geared more toward foreign visitors. If the food stays like this, it might not be worth staying here—that’s how bad it tasted. Also, at 6:00 PM everything except soft drinks is cleared away. It is not all-inclusive, so please be careful! That said, the scenery is absolutely spectacular!
