The service quality was worse than last time. It’s disappointing that Mirage seems to have lost its prestige.

Because my stay at Mirage two years ago was excellent, I made a Reservation for my second visit this time. The first surprise was that when I arrived at the Hotel entrance, there was no one there—not even a porter. It was shocking that not a single staff member was present and there was no welcome at all. Even Hotels in a lower price range offer a much more proper greeting. I checked in, but the door lock area was deformed, and it would not open from outside unless you used an unusual technique, which was stressful. If the auto-lock door closed slowly, it would not shut far enough to lock properly, and overall signs of aging were noticeable. The slippers made a sticky slapping noise when walking, and some sliding doors felt stiff or made noise as well. This was especially disappointing because the Allamanda Splendid I stayed at just before had very quiet slippers and doors. Although this was a Multiple Night Stay, the inside of the sanitary box had not been cleaned. For breakfast, I used Ristorante DEA and Shigira Turtle Bay. Despite being a relatively new restaurant, Ristorante DEA had large black stains on the white ceiling that looked like water-leak marks; even if it is reusing an existing Facility space, visible areas should be kept clean. The food was delicious, but the pacing of the course service was poor, so I feel there is room to improve operations. Turtle Bay was good overall, but airflow on the terrace is poor and it gets hot; having circulators or similar fans might have made it more comfortable. At Shigira Beach, a staff member who came over on a Segway spoke to me without getting off it, which felt unpleasant (it wasn’t an urgent situation such as dangerous behavior). Even if it’s not part of the Hotel itself, it’s within the same resort area, so I think a consistent level of hospitality is necessary. Given both outdated Facilities and inattentive service, the pricing feels far too aggressive. Overall quality did not seem worth the cost. Next time I come to Miyakojima Island، I will consider staying at another Hotel instead.

    My satisfaction rating is 5.

We stayed at two Hotels in Shigira, and this one was the best. The Club Lounge food was also well prepared. We will likely stay here again.

    Your First Time in Miyakojima

We were worried about a typhoon, but Miyakojima blessed us with great weather for our 4-day, 3-night stay, and we fully enjoyed the “Miyako Blue.” We were looking for a Hotel with lounge access and ended up choosing Shigira Mirage. Check-in was courteous and smooth, the lobby was sophisticated and comfortable, and the lounge was well worth climbing the stairs for—the view and atmosphere were excellent. Our Room was a Mirage Floor Deluxe Suite, beautifully coordinated in white and blue, creating a truly luxurious space. For the selectable dinner options, the shabu-shabu at Shinkiro was delicious. Turtle Bay’s service and food were average. Breakfast—both Japanese set meals and the buffet—was satisfying in both taste and variety. As for service, however, the checkout process felt overly procedural, which left us with a slightly disappointing final impression. Overall, I felt that many of the international staff consistently greeted us with warm smiles and provided heartfelt hospitality.

    Mirage is a great place.

No matter how many times I visit, Hotel Mirage is a wonderful place. I am truly grateful for the staff’s kind service. I will definitely return again soon.

    Love, Miyakojima.

This was my first stay at Mirage Villa since staying on the top floor of Mirage two and a half years ago. In the meantime, I stayed several times at Please Bay, as well as at Allamanda Pool Villa and Beachfront, and I was completely satisfied with everything at Shigira Resort—the high-quality Room, meals, and staff service. This time as well, I truly appreciate the wonderful hospitality, including the cart, Shuttle Service, and lounge access. I also had breakfast at the newly opened restaurant; it offered a beautiful course-style menu and everything was delicious. This was my 15th trip to Miyakojima... I believe I still visit every month because Shigira Resort made such an amazing start for me and continues to be the best experience. I have a Reservation at Please Bay in April, so thank you in advance. Of course, I’m also considering staying with Mirage again around September. I was very satisfied with both the Japanese-style and Western-style breakfasts. Following last year’s stay at Allamanda, I made another wonderful summer memory. Thank you very much. My second visit to Coral Restaurant—now in a new style—was also outstanding; the food was absolutely delicious. The staff were excellent as well.

A Room with a private pool that even city dwellers who dislike insects can enjoy

We stayed in early August and were truly impressed by how clean the private pool was. Private pools are often found in villa-style Rooms, where you may encounter insects, but this Room had a private pool on a high floor, so both adults and children could enjoy our stay without any insect issues. For dinner, we visited the izakaya and sushi restaurant within the resort, and both offered great Miyakojima cuisine. The menu was extensive, with classic Okinawan dishes such as rafute and a wide selection of drinks (especially awamori). We also appreciated the limited-time items like Keitt mango. When we stayed in August two years ago, the breakfast buffet was crowded and our family had to sit separately, but this time we were able to reserve seats in advance, which helped ease congestion. The food was delicious as well. This Room is highly recommended for families who prefer to avoid insects while relaxing at a private pool and fully enjoying Miyakojima’s local food.

    Family Trip

We stayed at Shigira with three generations of our family, and the kids were thrilled. However, when we chose a room with a private pool, it was in a different building, which was a bit confusing. Next time, I’ll call to confirm while making the reservation.

    Peak Obon holiday season

This was my first time staying here. I made a Reservation based on Reviews, but there were many disappointing points. I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay, but even at 3:00 PM the towel replacement and cleaning were not finished. Even after requesting it, what was supposed to start an hour later was delayed by another 30 minutes. I had dinner inside the Hotel, but I was rushed to pay even though I hadn’t finished eating. Even when I asked something in the Hotel, I ended up being kept waiting every time. I don’t think I had unrealistic expectations, but there were many moments that made me think, “Really?”

I love this Hotel, but it was a bit disappointing.

Overall, it is undoubtedly a gorgeous and excellent Hotel. What was a bit disappointing this time was that although we stayed in a suite Room, there was a beachfront Hotel in front of our Room, which obstructed the view. I assume there may have been issues with the underground soil or plumbing, but it still felt unnecessary to build it directly south of the main Hotel. That said, once you start enjoying the ocean, you stop noticing it. Also, perhaps because it was peak season and unavoidable, they seemed understaffed. We had a three-night stay at a five-star property, but there was no send-off at checkout, and when we looked for someone to take a family photo for us, there was no staff available. Lastly, the quality of breakfast at Turtle Bay had clearly declined compared to before. There were no mangoes like there used to be; the variety of items such as bitter melon and salad ingredients had decreased; and Japanese dishes that were previously available were gone. It felt especially disappointing because it is otherwise such a good Hotel. On the positive side, it was great that their system eliminated waiting times. Overall it’s a good Hotel, but I’d rate it four stars.

The concierge service is far below expectations.

I’ve stayed at Shigira about eight times, but perhaps because more affiliated properties have opened nearby, I was disappointed that the concierge service level felt too low. However, I think the restaurant food and service are excellent. In particular, the French restaurant DEA, which I visited for the first time on this trip, offers cuisine that rivals top French restaurants in Tokyo—highly recommended.

Because it’s such a wonderful Hotel, it’s a bit disappointing.

Overall, it was a very satisfying stay. The Hotel’s location and surroundings are excellent—quiet and clean. The staff provided great service, and the pool was well maintained. The towels felt soft and were very comfortable. Overall, it’s a wonderful Hotel, and one I would gladly stay at again. However, there were two disappointing points. First: breakfast. The breakfast area gets very crowded, and if you don’t make a Reservation for 7:00 right away, you may end up waiting quite a long time. We made our Reservation at 7:02, but there were already 20 groups ahead of us. If you want to eat early, I recommend setting an alarm for 7:00 and booking immediately. Second: the number of towels provided. Honestly, this was very strange. There were three of us staying for three nights, but we received four towels on the first day, three on the second day, and for some reason only two on the third day. Even though the number of guests stayed the same (three), why did the towel count decrease each day? Also, on the third day there were no extra towels available to take out when we went out. It wasn’t a major issue, but because everything else about this Hotel was so good, it made these basic service gaps feel even more disappointing. It’s a lovely Hotel overall, so I hope these points will be improved in the future.

    This was our second ...

This was our second stay, following last year. Because we stayed right after a typhoon passed through, the beachside pool was unavailable and the Room balcony had fallen over, so we could still see signs of the storm. Even under difficult recovery conditions, we truly appreciated the attentive service. We also noticed several improvements since last year, which made our stay very comfortable. The only disappointing point was that the in-room washer-dryer could not dry clothes—possibly due to clogged lint or drain filters. We were able to spin-dry and hang laundry in the Room, but it was a bit inconvenient. If possible, having a drying rack or towel hanger in the Room would make it even better. This is our family’s favorite Hotel, and we would love to return again next year.

    Your No. 1 Memory Trip

My two adult sons and I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days in midsummer at the Shiragi Mirage Pool Villa Premium. The Room came with a washing machine and a cart. We chose an all-inclusive Room, so it was reasonably priced, but it turned into a very enjoyable trip. Just one thing: The hot-water outlet in the bathroom was so stylish—and stuck out—that my son scraped himself when standing up. I think children could also bump their heads on it. It felt dangerous. When I contacted the front desk, they immediately brought several bandages—thank you very much. I studied beforehand by watching YouTube, but I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a turtle in the Room. Maybe they provide one depending on the season. The night view was beautiful, and although we got lost with the cart at first, by the time we left we had it down perfectly. There were many pools, but we never went in because we were paddleboarding and snorkeling instead. Next time, we’ll enjoy the pool. We’d like to stay at another luxury Hotel again.

We stayed here to celebrate a special anniversary.

The view from the Room’s pool was unbelievably beautiful. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The staff were also very kind, which was wonderful. Having a cart included made getting around fun and easy. If you come to Miyakojima, Shigira Resort is my top recommendation! I will definitely stay here again!

Not worth the price, and there was a large swarm of ants.

We stayed in the Pool Villa Premier for three people with the selectable breakfast and dinner Plan. First, check-in took over an hour—not waiting time, but the time we were actually being assisted. I don’t know if it was because of high season or because most staff were seasonal workers, but it took an extremely long time. We tried to choose our dining options, but we couldn’t. Depending on the time you want, only one restaurant is available. For breakfast we wanted Turtle Bay, but you have to scan a QR code yourself and get a numbered ticket. If you want 9:00, you need to take a ticket at around 7:00 just to make it. Since breakfast can be changed to brunch, I think that option is better. About the room: the twin bed area was fine, but the futons laid out in a separate area were covered with ants. At first glance there were more than 20 around the pillows and bedding; across that whole area there must have been far more. Even after using ant-repellent spray, they kept coming back again and again. I ended up feeling itchy every day. For dinner at Mirage Bay we wanted an earlier time, but only 8:30 PM was available so we had no choice and made a Reservation for 8:30 PM. However, we weren’t seated until around 9:00 PM. It’s hot so it can’t be helped, but everything smelled strongly of sweat, and last order came almost immediately. The food was delicious. We won’t return—at this price point, we’d choose somewhere else.

    Disappointing service

I love Miyakojima and visit every year. Our family’s favorite is Shigira Mirage, and we have stayed there many times. I’m not sure whether IKYU will publish this Review, but I wrote it because I want things to improve—and because I will likely stay again. Although we visit Miyakojima at least once a year, last time we stayed at a different Hotel, and the time before that we stayed in the newly built beachfront building. Still, we prefer this place, so we chose it again this time. However, this stay was the worst. First, breakfast: we waited two hours. At check-in, no one explained that “you must make a Reservation via the QR code exactly at 7:00.” If I had been told that, I would have booked at 7:00 to avoid this situation. The only explanation was that you can check how crowded it is via the QR code. When we checked at 7:30, around 60 groups were already registered. We were finally seated at 9:30; closing time is 10:00 (it seemed to be extended to 10:30, but the BBQ shrimp was sold out). With more buildings added and guests from other areas also able to use it despite limited seating capacity, there should be some restrictions in place if capacity cannot keep up. We love the breakfast here because it’s delicious—but after waiting so long, we had to rush through our meal. After that we went to the pool. When we returned to our Room in the afternoon, housekeeping still hadn’t been done—so we asked the front desk and went back to the pool again. We returned at 15:00 and it still wasn’t cleaned; this time I called and also went directly to ask at reception. After killing time by the pool until 17:00 and returning again—still not cleaned—so I asked yet again. We had a restaurant Reservation inside the property from 19:00 onward, so for my third request I specifically asked them to finish before we came back from dinner. But when we returned at 20:30 after dinner, housekeeping still hadn’t been done. This is my first experience with any Hotel where towel replacement or water replenishment wasn’t handled until so late at night. Even if full cleaning isn’t possible right away due to timing issues on their side (which shouldn’t happen), towel replacement and restocking should be essential. In the end housekeeping staff came after 20:30; since fireworks were about to start anyway,we waited in lobby until they began. After watching them,we returned room, and cleaning was finished—but bathroom amenities included only one shampoo bottle with no conditioner,no shower gel,and no body cream. The wine glasses were mismatched sizes, and even DIPTYQUE amenities were inconsistent sizes as well.We were told many guests staying today so they couldn’t keep up with cleaning, but that isn’t something guests should have bear.It was very disappointing.

I stayed one night in the Premier Suite.

We stayed one night in the Premier Suite. The spacious Room and the high-floor view had my wife and daughter thrilled. It even had a jacuzzi, which we really enjoyed. The lounge food was excellent, and for our small-appetite family it was so satisfying that we didn’t feel the need to go anywhere else—we simply enjoyed relaxing in the Room. For breakfast, we chose the course menu at DEA (Italian), which has started recently. Perhaps because not many guests choose it yet, we were able to dine in a calm atmosphere. Although this Hotel seems to have many guest rooms, whenever we requested service they responded very promptly.

    Your First Time in Miyakojima

The Hotel handled everything promptly and efficiently—from responding to inquiries by email in advance, to support from check-in through check-out, and any requests during our stay—so we were completely satisfied. It truly felt like the best Hotel on Miyakojima.<br> However, the breakfast situation was the only disappointment. Breakfast started at 7:00 AM, but even with a Reservation there was already a one-hour wait. We had hoped to enjoy a relaxed resort morning, but breakfast turned into a rushed scramble for Reservations, which was unfortunate. If the breakfast venue capacity could be adjusted to match actual demand, it would be even better.

Staying for 2 nights from July 26, 2026.

I stayed here during a short break after returning home from an overseas business trip. To show my appreciation to my wife, we chose a trip to Miyakojima based on her wishes. We were lucky with the weather throughout our stay and enjoyed driving around Miyakojima, Irabu Island, Kurima Island, and more. The Hotel room was spacious, well cleaned, and very comfortable. I was also very satisfied with breakfast—Western cuisine at DEA on the first day and Japanese cuisine at Shinkiro on the second day. The Western breakfast at DEA felt premium and exceeded my expectations. The Hotel atmosphere was full of resort vibes and naturally lifted my mood. This is a Hotel I would love to stay at again when I can take another vacation. I’d like to come back again in a season that’s ideal for sightseeing.

    Breakfast is extremely crowded.

On my first trip to Miyakojima, I stayed in a pool villa for three nights. The private pool in the Room was larger than I expected—spacious enough for my sixth-grade son to play freely. Since we had a cart, we mainly got around the Facility by cart. I didn’t realize there were designated areas where carts are allowed, but getting around wasn’t an issue at all—we used the shuttle bus and the on-demand Shuttle Service (sometimes shared) for the outer areas. The only disappointment was breakfast. There were three restaurants, but with a child we basically had no choice but the buffet. The buffet restaurant was extremely crowded. You can take a number in advance, so we checked in shortly after opening—around 7:15—but we weren’t called until 9:00. This happened on both days we tried it. It felt far beyond capacity. The buffet itself was stylish, delicious, and satisfying, but the wait time was simply too long.

Has the service declined compared to before?

Perhaps because we stayed during the peak summer holiday season, the Hotel was crowded overall. We had a Reservation for the Turtle Bay breakfast restaurant at 7:30, but were not actually seated until 10:18, so breakfast turned into brunch. Amenities felt downgraded, and Room cleaning tended to happen around 3:00 p.m., which made us feel that service had declined overall. There are many luxury hotels that maintain their service even during busy periods, and we hope you will aim for that standard. With only two breakfast restaurants in the Hotel and limited seating, this may also be contributing to the congestion.

Cleaning has not been completed yet.

I turned on the “please clean” light and went out in the morning, but when I returned at 3:00 p.m., it still wasn’t done. After I contacted them, they cleaned right away, but I had to wait outside for 30 minutes. Breakfast was great—the Japanese set was relaxing and high in protein. Morning champagne was also nice. On the second morning I chose the Western option, but because there are turtles it’s popular with kids, so I recommend the Japanese breakfast for adults. The Facility itself is huge, but many areas feel unfinished and a bit cluttered. Also, since my husband likes sunsets we chose a Room with a sunset view, but it was actually a parking-lot view. The sun seemed to set behind the Hotel across from us. We couldn’t see the ocean at all, which was really disappointing. It also feels like you have to pay extra for everything. It seems more suited to families than adults.

    The midsummer mirage is amazing.

We stayed for one night on our last day. Two years ago we stayed on the 9th-floor Mirage Floor, but this time we were assigned a Superior Room on the top floor (8th floor). Even with a Superior Room, the Facilities are almost the same; I think the only differences are that there is no washing machine, duvet, or lounge access. It’s a sunset-facing Room, but we could see the ocean from both the bathroom and the bed, and we were very satisfied. This time it was close to a full moon and the night sky was perfectly clear, but it was a pity that the stars weren’t as impressive. We would like to stay again.

    Vacation with a Private Pool

We were blessed with great weather and had a truly wonderful time. We enjoyed the private pool freely at any time, had champagne in the morning, and relaxed in the club lounge. One thing that concerned us was that the Room sofa was upholstered in fabric and had many stains; it also felt sticky to the touch. Since the property is large, getting to restaurants by cart takes too long, so a rental car is essential.

    The private space is exceptional.

The resort spans a vast area with various Facilities, and the Mirage district stands out for its good security and well-maintained privacy. A shuttle bus was available, but we also received personalized transportation support, and the hospitality was excellent. This time we stayed in a villa away from the Hotel building, which offered great privacy; however, getting around required using a cart, which could be inconvenient in bad weather. There is no space to park a rental car or other vehicle in front of the Room, so carrying luggage at check-out took extra effort. As we ate at the lounge, I have no particular comments about the food. At the pool by the Hotel building, there were no staff around when it opened in the morning, so we couldn’t get towels right away.

    るいろでれーる

Overall, it was a wonderful Hotel.

We stayed in the Bayside Building from 6/27 to 7/2 (5 nights, 6 days). Almost every summer we stay on the main island at Halekulani Okinawa and Oriental Hills Okinawa. This was our first time on a remote island, and our first experience at Shigira Mirage. All three are excellent five-star Hotels. If I had to compare them, Mirage has the following characteristics: 1) The key is an analog type → Suites on the 9th floor and above seem to use card keys (also required for the elevator), but since we stayed on the 8th floor, we were given only one old-style key per Room that you insert and turn. If you’re used to having card keys for each guest, this may feel inconvenient. 2) Vehicle drop-off at the Hotel entrance → When arriving by rental car, staff greet you, but you unload your own luggage and park your car yourself. If you’re used to leaving everything to hotel staff, this can feel a bit disappointing. 3) No beach sandals provided → Halekulani and Oriental Hills really spoiled us. 4) No magnifying mirror for makeup → Same as #3. 5) Strictly speaking, there isn’t a true infinity pool → We visited several pools across the expansive Mirage grounds, but there wasn’t a perfect “ocean-view infinity pool with water flowing seamlessly to the edge” like at Halekulani or Oriental Hills. There is a pool labeled as an infinity pool, but there are no parasols over the half-body lounge chairs—so it’s full direct sun and you end up exhausted. Honestly surprising. No wonder it was empty. 6) The coin laundry app is terrible → Since Rooms in the Bayside Building don’t have washing machines, you use the laundry room on each floor—but payments won’t go through unless you turn off Wi-Fi, it often won’t connect properly, etc. The app is awful. 7) The in-Room speaker is an older stationary type → Not a portable Bose-style speaker; it was my first time seeing this plug-in Sony type… 8) Power outlets for charging are only by the bed → You can’t sit on the sofa while charging your phone. 9) The toilet sound-masking feature is excellent! → It’s rare in private toilet rooms. Very appreciated. 10) The balcony design is excellent! → The balcony cannot be seen from neighboring Rooms (at Halekulani it’s completely visible and terrible). 11) Morning champagne is amazing! I thought drinking in the morning would mean we couldn’t drive anywhere—but since the island is small and doesn’t require much sightseeing, enjoying time within the Hotel is best anyway. 12) The Room is spacious! There were things we loved as well as things we wished were different, but overall our conclusion was that it’s a wonderful Hotel. Above all else: compared with Okinawa’s main island, the color of the sea here is on another level—and that alone makes it worth it. We’d love to stay again!

Great-value stays at a luxury Hotel

We stayed as a family of three in a spacious Room and had a high-quality stay, including the amenities. My wife and daughter slept soundly in the bedroom bed, and I relaxed on the large daybed. I especially liked the jacuzzi and was able to unwind. However, perhaps because we used a Discount Coupon, it was a bit disappointing that there was a parking lot under construction right in front of the balcony. We could see a little of the ocean, and the golf course on the other side was beautiful... For breakfast, we enjoyed both the Japanese set meal made with local ingredients and our favorite buffet. We went back for more sparkling wine and grilled seafood in the morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beautiful ocean view from the buffet terrace and the sea turtles in the pond were also great. We would like to stay again in an ocean-side Room.

    Extended Stay Due to Typhoon

Due to an approaching typhoon, our flight was canceled and the rebooked flight was scheduled for two days later, so we needed to extend our stay by two nights. It was our first time experiencing this, and we were anxious because everything felt delayed. In the midst of it all, you promptly suggested that we could extend our stay in the same Room, which was a huge help. Despite the difficult conditions caused by the typhoon, we were able to fully enjoy the resort.

    The Hotel was wonder...

The Hotel was wonderful. The Room was spacious and even had a jacuzzi, so we were very satisfied. However, while the staff were generally very kind and their service was excellent, at an izakaya called Subaru, someone who seemed to be the manager was arguing with another guest in the back because their Reservation hadn’t been properly secured. Then the staff member said something like, “There’s no point talking about ‘what ifs’ now,” which really surprised me—who says that to a guest? It seemed like even the other staff members were taken aback. Also at breakfast, there was a clear lipstick mark on my champagne glass, so I asked for it to be replaced. After that, several staff started wiping glasses, but they left only the champagne on the table and no new glass arrived for quite some time. When I called them over again, they somehow looked confused. I understand there may be some gaps in service since there are likely many seasonal resort workers, but I hope this will improve going forward. Still, the all-you-can-drink morning champagne was great. The Room and pool were also excellent, and it ended up being an amazing trip.
