    Not suitable for elderly guests.

Far from being barrier-free, this Accommodation has steps everywhere and is not suitable for elderly guests. It’s best to visit while you’re still physically fit. Since this is Amakusa, I had heard the sunsets are beautiful. I understood that our Room wouldn’t have a sunset view due to our budget, but I at least hoped we could see it from the dining area—however, it wasn’t visible at all. As the Accommodation is deep in an overgrown mountain area, that may be unavoidable, but I wish they would improve the surroundings so the view is better. In the end, we were able to go down to the beach below and see the sunset from there.

    Improvements!

I had always wanted to stay here, but when I checked the availability before, it was fully booked. This autumn, I decided to visit Amakusa again and was able to make a Reservation. Having visited Kami-Amakusa several times before, this time I chose a part of Amakusa I hadn't been to and looked forward to staying at this Accommodation. Upon arrival, it was unclear where the entrance was. When I asked someone who seemed like staff (though even that wasn't clear), their response was unhelpful—just saying something vague about going up. After navigating steep slopes and wrong turns multiple times, we finally arrived. The person greeting us seemed unenthusiastic or even unfriendly. The sunset view from the Room was nonexistent; although they recommended the terrace for viewing, it would have been better to go down below for a better view. Dinner felt comparable to what you'd get at an average Ryokan—not worth the price paid for this Accommodation. The bath in our Room had a Western-style design but was difficult to use; adjusting water temperature wasn’t easy either. The outdoor shower turned out much more convenient in comparison. The open-air bath itself was nice but surrounded by forest scenery—I'll leave that image up to your imagination. There were other issues too: the wooden shelf housing the fridge seemed misaligned and remained so throughout our two-night stay; even small details like crookedly placed information sheets went unnoticed by cleaning staff. It gave an impression of understaffing with possibly one person handling both serving meals and cleaning duties. For such high costs, this place didn’t feel worth revisiting anytime soon. Even interactions with someone who appeared likely as an owner upon returning from outings left much room for improvement. Perhaps it's time for significant renovations? Details like poorly hung blinds in elevator corridors or exposed outdoor units could be addressed—for instance by blending them into natural surroundings using wood enclosures fitting its forest setting aesthetic better! If substantial investments were made during construction initially then please re-evaluate everything thoroughly from guests' perspectives again! If Michelin recognition has been achieved previously strive towards regaining such standards once more because visitors invest both money & effort traveling here hoping they'd want returning someday inspired positively instead! Amakusa sunsets are stunningly beautiful though—it might’ve changed things slightly if visible directly via Rooms themselves (now understanding why vacancies remain plentiful).

    Excellent Accommodation

I stayed at "Gosoku no Kutsu" for two nights and three days. This accommodation is in a perfect location where you can enjoy the beautiful sunset over the East China Sea from an open-air bath. Amakusa is famous for its hidden Christians, and the church-style dining area has a unique, exotic atmosphere. The meals, featuring fresh seafood from the Ariake Sea, were incredibly delicious. Although it was a short stay, it was a truly relaxing trip. Thank you very much!

    Thank you for your patronage.

As it was a trip for two elderly people, going up and down to the second floor was a bit challenging, but the view from the Room was great, and the meals were delicious. Above all, the sunset was truly beautiful. However, the water pressure of the shower in the bath was very poor, making it difficult to rinse off shampoo, so we think it would be better if this could be improved. Thank you for your hospitality.

I experienced a space from another dimension.

It felt like stepping into the era of the Kirishitan, being in Ubud, Bali, or surrounded by a serene moss-covered garden—a truly unique and mysterious experience. The villa featured double sinks and an open-air bath that embraced nature, which were delightful. The meals were exceptional, especially the fried horse mackerel and mirin-dried fish served in the morning. The flexible dining system without fixed times was also convenient. The sunset on Amakusa's west coast was stunningly beautiful. However, please be cautious of your footing as it is located amidst nature.

Thank you for the unpleasant memory right at the beginning of the New Year.

I stayed during the New Year's holiday on a Kyushu tour. Since it was New Year's Day, I wanted to secure a good room as a reward for my daughter. After making a reservation on a major reservation site, I received a call saying they couldn't accept the reservation due to double booking, but they could offer a downgraded room. It was implied that the timing of my reservation was unfortunate, and since there was no time left until the reservation date, I reluctantly agreed. However, I checked with a friend who works for the reservation site company about why such a thing happened. They said that if the room inventory is linked with the reservation site, this shouldn't happen. If not linked, the room inventory is listed separately for each site, so it shouldn't happen with online reservations. It might have been that they accepted the phone reservation without securing the room inventory first. I didn't say anything, thinking it was fine, but upon arrival at the property, I coincided with what seemed to be a regular customer. In the parking lot, the regular customer was greeted with a bow and guided, while I was told to wait with a hand gesture. After being taken to the front desk, I was kept waiting for about 10 minutes while they provided courteous service to the regular customer. Ah, I see, I thought. They prioritized the regular customer. I believe the call was on New Year's Eve, so I wonder about the appropriateness of saying they couldn't accept the reservation. I maintained a displeased attitude throughout, so there was an apology at checkout, but it was clear that I didn't need to change rooms, and I wasn't even asked to do so. Therefore, the service is rated 1. It was a good lesson learned early in the New Year. The room was quite enjoyable, but given the local character, I understand if it leans towards Catholicism, but there were somewhat demonic decorations, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Also, the price was quite high, but the furniture didn't match that class. The cuisine featured local fish like grouper and other high-end fish, but there was an impression of too many fried dishes. The seasoning was unbalanced, making the soup feel bland. Compared to a reservation-only property in the same Amakusa area, which offered teppanyaki with Ise lobster, abalone, and local brand beef, the points are lower. In recent years, I've noticed this in properties near the Tokyo metropolitan area, like Hakone and Karuizawa, and in Kyoto, where the price is raised, but the content doesn't match, leaving a disappointing feeling. The location is rated 2, as it's a bit far. The scenery is rated 5.

    Not highly recommended.

In conclusion, I do not recommend it. The location of the Stays gives the impression that it was somehow built in the mountains, which might appeal to those who like secluded places. You have to drive up a steep hill, but the road is narrow, dark, and not easily accessible. The Room is somewhat clean, but it is not more than what you pay for, just adequate. The view from the open-air bath is not very good, as it is overgrown with trees. The worst part is the food. Perhaps because the Property is in such a remote location, the meals were all cold. The taste was not particularly good, and it was obvious at a glance that the food had been transported refrigerated and then transferred to plates. In short, the service, Stays, and meals do not match the price. Perhaps the construction costs were too high because it was built in such a remote location? I stayed with someone important to me, so it was a good memory, but I don't think I will ever go again. Well, reviews about this Stays are also posted on other websites, so I think it would be good to refer to those as well when making your choice.

    It was just right.

For the anniversary of an elderly couple, they visited a Property they had never been to before. They escaped from everyday life, watched the sunset while drinking beer on the terrace, and soaked in the open-air bath while listening to the birds' voices in the twilight. Both the meals and the service were just right, neither too pushy nor too reserved. Although it was a one-night stay, I felt that a Multiple Night Stay at this Stays would enhance the experience even more.

The hot water and the view were amazing.

I had been interested in this Stays for a while, but first, it was confusing that the reception location differs depending on the Room, and I was concerned that there were no handrails for elderly people to go up and down the stairs, and the elevator smelled slightly musty. Other than that, the Room was lovely, the food was delicious, and the open-air bath with natural hot spring water was very nice.

I am impressed by the extraordinary living space and the moment of the sunset, which was also breathtaking. The food was also superbly delicious, with a light seasoning that brought out the best of the ingredients.
