    I’m satisfied.

    We stayed at this all-inclusive Accommodation. Although some parts of the Facility feel dated, the Room, baths, lounge, and restaurant have been beautifully renovated. We could sense quality and thoughtful attention throughout, and truly enjoyed our stay. We always look forward to the food when staying at Accommodations in Miyagi and Yamagata, and the cuisine here was also excellent. The grilled shabu-shabu with Sendai beef was especially outstanding.

    Highly satisfied with the made-to-order buffet

    We stay here about once a year. The dining menu changes monthly, so there’s always something new to look forward to. Since it’s an order-style buffet, if there’s a line for one dish, it helps to switch and queue for something else. Many Hotel buffets have time limits, but Ichinobo does not. We entered at 5:00 PM and were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace until 8:30 PM. With typical buffets, you end up chatting and running out of time while constantly watching the clock. It’s wonderful not having that kind of stress. To reach the Hirose River open-air bath, you need to go down a long staircase, which may feel tough, but there are chairs along the way. Bath towels are provided in the large public bath, so you can use a fresh towel each time, which feels great. While Sakunami Onsen isn’t known for sightseeing spots, it’s perfect for a trip focused on delicious food and Onsen alone. This is our family’s No. 1 repeat stay.

    Hirose River Headwaters Open-Air Bath / Relaxation Salon / Sakura Dining

    Also, the mitarashi dango and gelato served from 15:30 were outstanding! The open-air bath at the source of the Hirose River was breathtaking—I was completely captivated by the beautiful river view from the tub. It’s several times nicer than the photos on IKYU. I think you should update them. Next time, I’d like to plan my stay so I can spend more time in that bath. The shaved ice and homemade strawberry syrup were delicious as well. It was so comfortable that I ended up staying too long in the relaxation salon. The morning chai was truly spicy and wonderful. From the lobby to the salon, all the chairs and sofas felt like something out of a furniture store—each one unique—and they were very relaxing. So those 15:30 dango were from Tsutsumiya near the station, weren’t they? They were really delicious. Both dinner and breakfast buffets were full of great food, and I ate too much—I ended up crashing at home from 8 p.m. that night. In late January, I’m going to Ichinobo in Matsushima with a friend, but no matter how good it is, I’m reminding myself not to overindulge like this time. I was able to take my time and truly enjoy the Onsen in the large public bath. Lastly, thank you very much to all of your staff—especially everyone at the relaxation salon—for taking such good care of us.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

    We stayed here as a couple, and it was easily one of the top three Accommodations we’ve ever visited. The entire property is beautiful and spotless. The views from the lobby and lounge are wonderful, and since it’s all-inclusive, we were able to relax with a drink even before meals. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet-style, but the quality is truly outstanding. At the live kitchen, some dishes are finished right in front of you. There’s an excellent selection of carefully chosen local ingredients, and the alcohol isn’t the “mystery brands” you often find at buffets—there were familiar options, and they even had Nikka Date. We were especially satisfied with the food and drinks, particularly the alcohol. Another great point was that there’s no time limit for dining, and no fixed start time—within the designated entry window, you can go whenever you like. It was completely stress-free. In the evening there was a salon concert, which we enjoyed while having a drink. The only downside was that our Room was far from the large public bath—but given how big this Accommodation is, that’s understandable. Finally: although all staff members were Japanese, what stood out most was their exceptional hospitality—not only at reception, but also from the chefs in the kitchen and even on the Shuttle Service bus. We could truly feel their warm welcome from everyone. This is an Accommodation we’d love to visit again.

    This was our second stay, and everything was wonderful—the Room, meals, bath, and the staff’s service. The view from the balcony while relaxing in the hammock was especially amazing. We would love to stay again.

    As expected—very satisfied.

    I stayed in the Premium View Suite. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay, and I would definitely like to return if I have the chance. In fact, I felt like extending my stay—I was able to spend such a relaxing time. I arrived before check-in, but since I could enjoy complimentary drinks and finger foods in the lounge, the wait was comfortable. The thoughtful touch of being able to unwind from travel fatigue was wonderful. The suite was spacious as you would expect, impeccably clean, and very comfortable. The view from the open-air bath in the room was fantastic, and I enjoyed soaking again and again without noticing the time. I also used the sauna and was able to thoroughly refresh my tired body after sightseeing and traveling. That said, while there is a privacy door for the open-air bath, depending on conditions you may be able to see a neighboring building, which some guests might find slightly concerning. Also, when I previously stayed in a suite at Matsushima Ichinobo (a sister property), there was an exclusive club lounge. If a similarly special service were available here as well, it would make satisfaction even higher. The amenities were sufficient for basic needs; however, considering this price range, individually wrapped items like convenience-store travel sets felt less premium than expected. Higher-quality amenities would better match the Accommodation’s appeal. As for dining, since it was described as a “live buffet,” I expected more dishes cooked on the spot; however, some items were served pre-prepared, which differed slightly from my expectations. In particular, I did not get that impression at Matsushima Ichinobo (a sister property), so by comparison it felt a bit disappointing. That said—and most importantly—the food itself tasted excellent across the board. You could tell care had gone into both ingredients and seasoning, and I truly enjoyed mealtime. One minor disappointment was that the women’s restroom near the dining area was quite dusty. There were a few small points that stood out to me; even so overall satisfaction with my stay remained very high—it’s an Accommodation that genuinely made me think “I want to stay again.” Surrounded by Sakunami’s nature, this is highly recommended for anyone looking to spend unhurried yet luxurious time away.

    A wide selection of drinks is available.

    This is our regular trip for three middle-aged women, and we were very satisfied with how well stocked and varied the buffet drinks were (especially the alcoholic options). It wasn’t just “there’s wine,” “there’s beer,” or “they have sake for now”—there were many brands to choose from, and we all enjoyed trying them together. The evening events and the entertainment on the lobby floor also seemed thoughtfully planned. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. One star off because there were no blackout curtains—only thin curtains—so it was too bright from early morning. Another star off because there were no paper towels or similar after washing hands in the toilet area, which was inconvenient. All of the staff were cheerful, and we had a pleasant stay.

    The Accommodation I’ve Always Wanted to Visit

    My spouse and I are both from Miyagi, and we have known of Ichinobo since we were young. I had always hoped to stay here someday, and before I knew it, the years had passed. Due to strong winds, the Shinkansen was delayed and the Senzan Line was suspended, but we still managed to arrive. The staff welcomed us with warm smiles, which immediately put us at ease. The lobby was spacious and soothing, and our Room was spotless. Both the large public bath and the open-air bath were flawless. I usually avoid buffet-style dining because I prefer a calm meal, but here everything was clearly organized—appetizers, mains, and more—so it was easy to choose. Being able to enjoy as much of what I liked as I wanted left me completely satisfied. The beef tongue in particular was so delicious that I ended up eating it again and again. For breakfast, having rice balls made on the spot was a real delight. We stayed for two nights and didn’t step outside even once—just relaxed in the lounge and fully unwound within the Accommodation. Spending such a luxurious, restful time truly made me happy. I would love to visit again.

    Choosing the right Room is important.

    I chose a “no view” Room, assuming we’d spend most of our time relaxing in the lounge with a book. Since it was “no view,” I should have just kept the shoji screens closed, but because it was the season of beautiful fresh greenery, I opened them—and could clearly see the Hotel’s garbage disposal area directly below. I understand it can’t be helped that it’s located where it is, but I wondered if some kind of screening could be added to hide it (also necessary as a bear deterrent). Also, the bed was so firm that neither my husband nor I could sleep… I regretted choosing the cheapest Room. The all-inclusive lounge service, dinner, and breakfast were wonderful, which made me all the more disappointed that we chose the wrong Room. That said, overall this is an excellent Accommodation.

    I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The in-room bath, the large public bath (strangely deep), and a separate natural bath (men only on the day) were all lukewarm (apparently the Accommodation’s policy). There also seems to be an open-air bath, but men can only use it the next morning, so I did not use it this time. Before my stay, my right knee was injured, but by checkout it had fully recovered. In the past, I once healed an ankle sprain that had been bothering me since February after just one night at Sakunami Onsen (at another Accommodation). Sakunami is incredible—the therapeutic effects are amazing. Meals were served in a live-kitchen style. They start cooking after you order, and temperature is an important part of good food; both the hot dishes and cold dishes were excellent. Dinner included pickled myoga ginger, and breakfast offered Iwaizumi yogurt. I was also able to get a seat overlooking the garden; with fresh greenery in season and just the right traces of kobushi magnolia (or maybe mokuren?) and cherry blossoms remaining, it paired nicely with a “GeGeGe no Kitaro” yokai postbox and what looked like a bird feeding area resembling the “GeGeGe House,” creating a charming atmosphere. Whenever I get a sprain or similar injury, coming to this Onsen seems to resolve it overnight. Aside from those situations, even though I live in Miyagi Prefecture, I can’t say I visit Sakunami often. I have stayed in the main building several times before; they offer tasteful touches such as daikon shabu-shabu (in past visits) and grilled mochi served at the natural-bath lounge this time. Even without any injuries, it’s an Accommodation I’d like to visit whenever inspiration strikes.

    A lovely, well-balanced Accommodation

    First of all, the staff were very energetic and welcoming. The chef in the kitchen also chatted with us in a friendly way, and we enjoyed our meal in a very comfortable atmosphere. The natural open-air baths were excellent—the water quality and temperature were great, there was a wide variety to choose from, and we could truly relax. Our Room was a suite on the 7th floor, and the view was amazing. We could also tell that a lot of care had gone into the amenities. When we went to reception around 8:00 p.m. to play table tennis, we were told it wasn’t possible without a Reservation. We hadn’t been informed of that, so it was disappointing. Since no one else was using it, I think it would be good to be more flexible about that. Overall, we were very satisfied—thank you very much. We’d love to stay again.

    An Accommodation where adults can relax at a leisurely pace

    My husband and I stayed here together. We stayed in the Onsen Club Room. When I saw the Room photos, I wondered at Reservation time if there might not be a window, but there was a large window! The view faces the parking lot. The Room was spacious enough, and the amenities were simple—only toothbrushes (since there is no bath in the Room). There were 500 ml bottled waters for each guest in the refrigerator. The disappointing part was the toilet. There was an ammonia smell—maybe it has soaked into the wallpaper. There is no bidet seat. Since children are not allowed to stay in the Satoyama Rooms and group Reservations are declined, it was quiet and we had a comfortable stay. That’s exactly what we were hoping for, so we were very happy. The lounge felt well stocked with coffee options. Because it’s spacious, it gets cold around your feet. The after-bath tea lounge had floor heating and was warm, and the handmade ginger syrup mixed with sparkling water was delicious. As for the open-air baths: the natural bath is quite small, so whether you can enjoy it depends on timing/luck. The baths overlooking the river were varied, spacious, had great views, and were very enjoyable. However, they felt quite visible from the neighboring Hotel across the river. If that would bother you, please be aware (it’s not that we actually saw anyone looking). Large towels are available freely, but there weren’t replacement hand towels provided. It felt odd for an Accommodation meant for bath-hopping (I personally think it’s good manners to lightly dry off before stepping back into changing areas). We enjoyed all of our meals—they were delicious! The sashimi was a bit disappointing. Since I’d read in Reviews that there can be lines at the live kitchen stations, I expected long queues—but even when there was a line it was about five people; usually around two or three on average. If you prefer to have all dishes on your table before starting to eat, this style might feel slow. There are also dishes that aren’t from live stations; since I’m used to picking up food little by little in this format anyway, I actually liked being able to eat freshly made items. All staff members were pleasant. There are two table tennis tables as well—it turned out to be good exercise. It’s nice to have activities available. If you don’t want to walk much inside the property, staying in a Satoyama Room seems convenient—you can reach your Room, dining area, and baths using just one elevator. We happened to stay when prices were low as well; at this price for two people, we were satisfied with this Accommodation. Thank you for taking care of us during our stay.

    The meals were excellent.

    The in-room bath allowed us to relax and stretch out while enjoying a mountain view. We also enjoyed various activities within the Hotel, such as reading while gently swaying in a hammock and listening to a piano concert while having coffee in the lobby. The meals were excellent as well. There was a wide variety of menu items, including dishes grilled or fried right in front of you. In the lobby, drinks are available with unlimited refills and there is a great selection, so we enjoyed plenty—coffee after meals and cold juice after bathing.

    Stayed here for a girls' trip with my daughter. Room was great! Onsen was excellent! Food was amazing! It was a perfect Onsen experience. We are already talking about visiting again during the autumn foliage season.

    I want to visit again!

    This time, I stayed at the Onsen Club accommodation. While the facilities at Satoyama Seyryu, where I stayed last time, were better, I was still satisfied with this place! I really enjoyed how each dish was prepared individually. Since I was traveling alone, I could eat warm dishes right away and move on to the next one at my own pace. I quite liked this style here. Even if there was a bit of waiting in line, it didn’t bother me much. I ate as much as I wanted of my favorite dishes until I was full. My favorite this time was the morning yellowtail rice bowl—I went back for seconds multiple times! Since it was a multiple night stay, I had plenty of time to relax in the onsen and unwind with drinks in the lobby. It truly refreshed me. This is an accommodation I'd love to visit again!

    Matsushima

    For those familiar with Matsushima, you might find the rank lower than expected for the price. The food and Room at Ichinobo in Matsushima were of a higher standard. Since there are no nearby tourist Facilities, the Hotel's events try to attract attention, but the performances were not very impressive and felt boring. I wanted to give a positive review, but I couldn't find anything worth highlighting.

    It was a satisfying stay.

    It was a lovely accommodation with meticulous attention to detail. Although I initially thought the buffet-style dinner might be inconvenient, it turned out to be great as I could enjoy my favorite dishes in any order and quantity. The food was delicious. I also enjoyed trying various types of alcohol in small amounts. The hot spring quality left my skin smooth and allowed me to relax completely.

    The Best Accommodation

    A few years ago, I really enjoyed Ichinobo in Matsushima, so I decided to visit this accommodation from the same group. Everything was amazing!! Personally, I prefer this place as it allows for a more relaxing stay. Even during the holiday period, the dining area wasn’t too crowded, and every dish was carefully prepared and delicious. Breakfast at the bright counter seats had a great atmosphere and was very comfortable. The rice was exceptionally tasty as well. The staff were all polite and kind. One small suggestion: it would be nice if there were some drinks like beer or juice in the room's refrigerator so that guests could enjoy them while relaxing in their rooms. This is an accommodation I definitely want to visit again!

    It was truly relaxing.

    The record player in the lobby is excellent, and the collection of records is so nostalgic that it brought tears to our eyes, especially for seniors like us. During our 2-night, 3-day stay, we enjoyed watching the autumn colors deepen from the first day to the third while soaking in the open-air bath in our Room. Although access from Tokyo can be a bit inconvenient, it was a perfect escape from everyday life.

    It was an unexpectedly enjoyable stay.

    The buffet, where you can enjoy as much as you like of your favorite dishes, was surprisingly enjoyable and made me appreciate buffets again. However, some dishes took a bit too long to be served due to the meticulous presentation, and they were cold by the time I got them, which was slightly disappointing. The Onsen in the room, as well as the large public bath and open-air bath along Hirose River, were very relaxing.

    A luxurious and generous Hotel

    I had an incredibly comfortable stay without any worries. If you don't mind the room selection, the all-inclusive option is reasonably priced. The food was all delicious, and the amenities were well-equipped. The open-air bath overlooking the river was breathtaking. Although check-in was at 2 PM, we arrived an hour early, and during that time, we were able to leave our luggage and enjoy beer or tea on the luxurious terrace. This Hotel is generous in many ways and never feels stingy. It truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. The only thing I found a bit wasteful was the thick, luxurious towels provided in every bathroom. Even though they are barely used, they end up in the used towel box. Carrying them from the Room is bulky, so perhaps thinner towels would be more practical and eco-friendly.

    This accommodation was very satisfying as always. The staff provided attentive and heartfelt hospitality. It has become a place I want to visit repeatedly. However, regarding dinner, although there is no fixed time, I realized later that some desserts were unavailable when dining at a later time, which was disappointing this time. It would be great if there were more availability during later hours. I look forward to visiting again for a relaxing stay.

    We were able to stay due to a sudden availability. It was great since it’s a popular accommodation. The room was a standard one without an onsen. The interior of the building is clean, and you can relax around the front desk area with a nice view. The open-air bath alternates between men and women in the morning and evening. For men, the evening bath felt small and not very relaxing, but in the morning, the riverside open-air bath was fantastic with a yomogi sauna that I thoroughly enjoyed. There is also a large public bath which is very spacious and has a calm atmosphere—I loved it! It felt private as there weren’t many people around, allowing me to relax fully. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptional; everything I ate was delicious. The live kitchen prepared dishes carefully, including plenty of beef tongue and Sendai beef—this alone made it worthwhile. On the other hand, my room didn’t have towels in the washroom (laughs). There were no amenities except for toothbrushes, which was inconvenient. Are we supposed to pick them up near reception at check-in? This wasn’t explained during check-in—it would be nice if basic items were provided in advance. In addition, there are no hairbrushes available in the large public baths—you need to grab one from near the entrance before entering. It would be better if they placed them next to hairdryers inside. The lack of amenities overall was disappointing; I hope this can be improved. Overall though, I recommend this accommodation! They clearly focus their efforts (and investments) on specific areas with an all-inclusive concept that stands out distinctly between relaxation time (off) and activity time (on). Although it’s far from Sendai city center, they provide shuttle service from Sakunami Station if you make a reservation—very convenient! Despite my feedback for improvement points mentioned above—I’d love to visit again!

    Enjoy All-Inclusive Luxury

    The open-air bath was amazing. The view was stunning, and there were many baths with different water temperatures, including standing baths and a mugwort steam sauna, which made the experience very enjoyable. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, but since the dishes were prepared fresh upon order, we could enjoy them freshly made. Thanks to the all-inclusive service, we could try various drinks in small amounts, which was a lot of fun. The Room had a spacious bed that was very comfortable to sleep on. The stylish tatami flooring felt great under bare feet and allowed us to relax completely. At the lounge upon arrival, we enjoyed sparkling wine and snacks. My husband also seemed to enjoy beer after his bath. The next morning, I savored delicious coffee brewed with a siphon. We fully enjoyed the all-inclusive experience. Especially having coffee on the terrace of the lounge in the morning was exceptional!

    I decided based on the reviews...

    The open-air bath does not have an adjacent washing area, so you must wash (shower only) and pass through the room, which is very inconvenient. No glasses were provided. There was a kettle, but only two tea bags of black tea were available. Although it was described as an order buffet, side vegetables were pre-grilled and served cold. The variety of dishes was limited, and for a multiple night stay, the breakfast and dinner menus were the same for two days. Unfortunately, the taste felt subpar to me. This was my first time trying a buffet-style accommodation, but I realized it doesn't suit me. For approximately 200,000 yen for two people over two nights, am I the only one who feels it's overpriced? However, the staff members were incredibly kind and attentive with excellent service!
