    Prime Spot for Gora Daimonji Bonfire & Fireworks

    We stayed on August 16th to enjoy the Hakone Gora Daimonji Bonfire and Fireworks. We had an early dinner at 5 PM, and from 7:30 PM, we enjoyed the bonfire and fireworks directly from the terrace of our Room. Check-in was available from 2 PM, and our Room was on the east side of the third floor in a four-story building, offering a perfect view of the bonfire from the terrace. The delicious dinner and kind hospitality made it an exceptional experience. Thank you very much!

    You’ve grown so much!

    This was our third visit since 2019. Everything was absolutely wonderful. There seemed to be more young staff members than before, but they were very knowledgeable and reliable. The meals have definitely improved compared to previous visits, showcasing great attention to detail. There was also a limited-time Häagen-Dazs service, and we enjoyed it multiple times along with free alcohol and snacks. We also had the signature late-night ramen as always, which made us wonder how they manage such offerings in this era of rising costs—it even became a topic of discussion among the three of us! One particularly memorable moment during this stay was when I asked a young female staff member if it would be okay to go out wearing the yukata we borrowed for viewing the Daimonji bonfire and fireworks. She initially mentioned that it’s generally considered indoor wear but kindly checked with her supervisor, who assured us that it would be perfectly fine anywhere—this thoughtful response left a lasting impression on me! Thank you for providing such an affordable stay during the busy Obon season. Compared to our first visit during your opening year’s New Year holiday, everything has significantly improved across the board. Even though we stayed until just before the 11:00 AM checkout time, we noticed how well-trained even your international cleaning staff were in their greetings—it truly amazed all of us with its incredible value for money. My only regret is missing out on enjoying the private open-air bath in our room this time around. I look forward to fully indulging in it next time! Thank you again for everything—we’ll definitely return!

    The Onsen and room w...

    The Onsen and room were very clean, which was great. Since there were no small children, it was quiet and peaceful even though it seemed fully booked. The dinner seasoning was delicious, but while the intention of offering freshly prepared options is appreciated, the main course felt a bit lacking in impact. The free drinks after bathing were excellent. I would definitely like to return if I have the chance!

    Stay for a Couple During Obon Holidays

    The temple-like gate at the entrance caught my attention when I passed by before. Conveniently located near Gora Station. Inside, guests walk barefoot, and the tatami flooring feels pleasant. From the garden-side room, you can enjoy views of lush green mountains and even see traces of Daimonji-yaki. The private open-air bath in the room is not a natural flow type, so you need to add hot water each time. During summer, the water is very hot and needs to be diluted with cold water to enter, which slightly diminishes the onsen experience. A variety of complimentary drinks (including alcohol) are available throughout the accommodation, which was a nice touch. Dinner offered several menu options; sukiyaki was delicious. However, while expecting unagi ochazuke with dashi broth, it tasted more like plain tea without saltiness. Breakfast was Japanese-style with many dishes and satisfying overall; however, the dining area felt too cold due to strong air conditioning. The private baths are free and available without reservation if vacant; we tried one of three—the rock bath—which was spacious enough for two people and very comfortable. Since children are not allowed at this accommodation, it provided a quiet environment for relaxation. Overall, this accommodation exceeded expectations and provided an extremely satisfying stay!

    It was a relaxing accommodation.

    I booked this accommodation for a relaxing stay indoors. The room on the garden side offered a great view of the mountains, and I enjoyed soaking in the onsen in the room. Afterward, I could quietly relax on the balcony while feeling the breeze. (The natural hot spring water is quite hot, so it's recommended to add some cold water and allow time to adjust before filling up.) The room's facility included drip coffee, which was enjoyable, and I also appreciated being able to try various drinks at the bar inside. The staff were all very kind and attentive. I stayed for two nights, and there were menu options for meals that kept things interesting! Personally, as someone with a small appetite, I felt bad about not being able to finish everything as it became too much for me at times. While their evening meals seemed lighter compared to typical accommodations due to their focus on night snacks as a specialty dish, it would be nice if there were even lighter menu options like one less dish available... just my personal thought! Overall though, I was very satisfied with my stay. Thank you so much!

    Satisfaction guaranteed!

    The Room's open-air bath was very hot and difficult to enter even after adding water, but the public bath was lukewarm, making the adjustable temperature of the private bath excellent. I only had breakfast, but both Japanese and Western options were delicious and filling. I enjoyed a quiet and relaxing time. I planned to have a light meal at nearby restaurants since dinner wasn't included, but there aren't many places around, so having dinner included might be better. I would love to stay here again.

    A fun accommodation.

    I checked in early to fully enjoy the accommodation. The dining area I was guided to during check-in had a smell reminiscent of a barbecue restaurant, and the oily floor caught my attention. As others mentioned, the air conditioning inside seemed insufficient, making it feel less cool and more noticeable. However, those were minor concerns in what turned out to be an enjoyable accommodation for adults. Beer in the lounge, nostalgic snacks, Häagen-Dazs ice cream, milk, late-night ramen... The bottled drinks, canned cocktails, and snacks available on each floor were also delightful touches. For those seeking luxurious services, it might feel lacking; however, this accommodation offers a relaxed and balanced experience for a comfortable and enjoyable stay without any pretension.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    This was our second stay, and I stayed with my mother. The entire accommodation is covered with tatami mats, which felt very pleasant. There were no steps, so my elderly mother felt safe. We chose a room with an open-air bath, so there was no need to move around much, which was convenient. All the meals were delicious. The tofu and dried alfonsino fish were served with solid fuel but unfortunately did not get warm enough. The tea and coffee were lukewarm as well.

    First Time at Gora Onsen

    My first visit to Gora Onsen left me surprised by the number of steep slopes. It later reminded me of the Hakone Ekiden race. When we arrived at the station, my elderly father was unable to climb the slope, so we requested a shuttle service from the main building near the station. The staff responded promptly, which was greatly appreciated. The front desk staff at the main building provided excellent service. At the annex, however, many of the staff seemed inexperienced and lacked polished hospitality skills. Additionally, it was uncomfortably hot throughout various areas of the Ryokan. The open-air bath in our room was very spacious and enjoyable. The unlimited drinks such as beer after bathing were a delightful touch. Having water and tea available on each floor was also an excellent service. The meals were average; there wasn’t anything particularly delicious. Considering cost performance, it was quite disappointing overall.

    I was very pleased with the Room upgrade. If I were to make a small suggestion, it would be nice to have a wider variety of alcoholic drinks at the relaxation area. However, overall, I was extremely satisfied and would love to stay again.

    I made a reservation...

    I made a reservation the day before as I was able to take a sudden day off from work. Even though it wasn't a maternity plan, they kindly adjusted the meals to accommodate my pregnancy. During meals, thoughtful touches like cushions and lap blankets were provided, which made me very happy. The accommodation was quiet with a pleasant scent of incense, allowing me to relax and unwind. It was an accommodation that made me want to stay for two nights again after a long time, so I definitely want to visit again!

    A Long-Awaited Stay at a Hakone Onsen Accommodation

    Thank you for your hospitality. Although it was a same-day reservation, I received seamless service throughout my 1-night, 2-day stay. I heard that the facility has been operating for quite some time, but thanks to the thorough cleaning of the room, it didn’t feel old at all. The highlights of this accommodation were: - "Delicious Japanese meals for breakfast and dinner" (Western-style breakfast is also available) - "Hinoki Onsen bath on the balcony" - "Excellent service and creativity from the staff." The soothing aroma of tea from the tea incense burner filled the room, creating an indescribably relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, I was delighted by the matcha service offered in the lobby. For dinner in a semi-private restaurant booth, we enjoyed exquisite kaiseki cuisine while appreciating a beautifully handwritten menu with illustrations by the head hostess. The well-trained staff provided impeccable service that made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Everything in and including items in the refrigerator was offered as part of a “free flow” concept—snacks and alcohol could be enjoyed freely without extra charge. However, as someone who rarely drinks alcohol, I would appreciate if non-alcoholic options like “drinkable yogurt” or other healthy choices could be made available upon request. Regarding baths: there are three private baths located within the garden area which can get slightly wet or messy due to frequent use by guests; however, just soaking in your own room’s Onsen bath is more than satisfying. That said, I did notice some slight slipperiness on my room’s bath floor—it may have been coincidental but addressing this would enhance future stays. Fortunately blessed with good weather during both days of my visit, everything came together perfectly to create an incredibly fulfilling trip. Thank you very much!

    Completely satisfied.

    This was our second stay, and we were able to enjoy a very comfortable time as the overall atmosphere remained unchanged. The meals felt even more delicious than last time, leaving us extremely satisfied. Although we are foreigners, the staff provided very polite and kind service. We also noticed an increase in English-speaking staff compared to our previous visit, which seems to reflect a growing number of international guests. It appears that operations are running smoothly, and we hope this excellent accommodation quality will be maintained in the future. If given another opportunity, we would love to stay here again.

    I had a comfortable stay.

    The facility is always clean, and the staff provided kind and friendly service with smiles, making the stay very comfortable. Being able to walk barefoot inside was stress-free and convenient. The abundance of complimentary services, including drinks, was a delightful bonus. Meals were served in semi-private rooms, allowing for an enjoyable dining experience without worrying about others. The large public bath was also a highlight as it felt like having it all to myself. Thank you very much!

    It was great.

    Due to a last-minute change, I stayed in a Japanese-style room with 4 beds with my daughter and enjoyed a relaxing time. As others have mentioned, drinks like beer and whiskey are free, as well as tea, carrot juice, and ice cream. Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious spreads that left us completely full. Unfortunately, we couldn't make room for the complimentary soy sauce ramen offered at night. The room was clean with excellent amenities, and the private Onsen in the room was spacious and perfect for relaxation. However, one issue (not the hotel's fault)... In the dressing area of the public bathhouse, there were some guests who came out of the bath without drying off properly, dripping water onto the tatami floor while using their smartphones to take photos or talk. My daughter also mentioned that in the women's bath area there were several towels scattered on the floor. At breakfast, although each family had their own partitioned space so we couldn't see them directly, loud conversations and burping from neighboring booths were unpleasant. While many international guests stayed at this hotel without issue, it might have just been these particular individuals causing discomfort.

    Stay at Setsugetsuka Bekkan Suiun (Kyoritsu Resort)

    This was our first time staying at Suiun, a part of the Kyoritsu Resort, and we visited over the weekend. The elegant and quaint building immediately impressed us. However, as we arrived by private car, it was a bit disappointing to find no dedicated parking lot and had to use a small public parking area. Upon entering, the staff's warm welcome and polite demeanor left a positive impression. The young staff members were particularly attentive and courteous. Walking barefoot (or in socks) on the tatami-like flooring throughout the facility was a unique experience that felt very pleasant. The room was spacious with a double bed and an additional single bed in a cozy private space, which amazed us. The balcony featured an open-air hinoki bath that exceeded our expectations. While the main onsen wasn't very large, it provided enough relaxation for us. There were also three private baths available for reservation; unfortunately, they were occupied during our stay. Dinner offered an extensive menu with delicious dishes that left us fully satisfied. Additionally, there was a relaxation area within the facility where guests could enjoy unlimited drinks (alcoholic beverages included) along with snacks—this thoughtful touch truly impressed us! Complimentary drinks in the room's refrigerator added to our delight. For breakfast, we had options between Japanese or Western-style meals; I chose Japanese while my wife opted for Western cuisine. Both meals came as beautifully arranged plates with abundant variety and exceptional taste. Choosing Suiun at Kyoritsu Resort for this onsen getaway turned out to be an excellent decision as everything about it felt refined and satisfying. We would love to visit this accommodation again if given another opportunity—thank you!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    During my pregnancy, I stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my birthday as well. Since it might be a while before I can relax in an onsen again, I searched for accommodations with private open-air onsens in the room. Considering that age restrictions might prevent us from staying after our child is born, we decided to make a reservation at Suiun. When I noted my pregnancy during the reservation process, they kindly called me in advance regarding meal arrangements. Upon arrival, they replaced the welcome tea with rooibos tea during check-in and made adjustments such as substituting sashimi with boiled shrimp for our in-room dining. Their thoughtful considerations were very helpful. They also took a photo when we enjoyed the cake we had pre-ordered and later gifted it to us framed—a wonderful memory for us to cherish. We enjoyed both the private bath and several relaxing moments in our room's onsen bath. The view of Daimonji-yaki mountain from our room was also delightful. It was an accommodation where I'd love to stay again once my child grows older. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was quite tense.

    The selection of drinks, ice cream, and snacks was excellent. Dinner at Zen was also very good. The private open-air bath was great as well. However, when I received the key and entered the Room, I heard a man’s voice coming from inside. Even when I looked around from the entrance, I couldn’t see anyone. But I could still hear the voice. When I tried to locate where it was coming from, it seemed to be behind a closed door on the left. It was quite scary, but when I worked up the courage to open the door, the TV was on in a dark room. I felt both surprised and relieved, but it kept bothering me, so I closed the door and didn’t use that Room during my stay. There were also long hairs on the floor, so honestly I wasn’t able to relax.

    The room and the facility were filled with the pleasant aroma of tea incense, making it a very relaxing stay. The staff provided exceptionally polite service. I was drawn to the all-inclusive plan when making my reservation. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I would have appreciated a wider variety of alcoholic beverages on each floor (as draft beer servers and cocktails required going to the basement to enjoy them). Since our room faced the garden, the view from our private open-air bath was stunning. The meals were plentiful and delicious. Thank you also for the thoughtful gift of chopsticks as a keepsake!

    Incense burners were placed everywhere, creating a soothing atmosphere, and they were beautifully designed. The hot water was very pleasant and warmed me up thoroughly. There were plenty of staff members who were attentive and made me feel at ease.

    A tranquil Ryokan.

    I stayed here for my New Year's visit to Hakone Shrine. This was my second time, and it felt even more relaxing than before. All drinks and snacks are complimentary, making it enjoyable after a bath. The staff are cheerful, the meals are delicious, and I would love to stay again.

    Points of Concern The parking spaces are too narrow, making it a struggle just to get out of the car. The staff are very polite, but they seem emotionless and mechanical, as if they are just following a manual. Dinner was unremarkable, giving the impression of a generic assortment. The taste was akin to that of a department store basement. When I tried to use the humidifier in the room, I found the water tank covered in mold and dirt. I attempted to buy souvenirs at the shop and arrange for shipping, but the staff continued talking to foreign tourists and did not assist me, so I gave up. Positive Points The room was spacious and clean, except for the humidifier, and the semi-open-air bath was pleasant. The semi-balcony was appreciated for cooling down after the Onsen. In contrast to dinner, breakfast was creatively prepared and satisfying. These are my impressions. I am not writing with malice, just stating the facts without any ulterior motives.

    Why did you feel it was not worth the price?

    Overall, I felt that the staff had not received proper hospitality training. Especially the female staff during dinner, we were not eating slowly, yet we were rushed. The response was also businesslike. My companion had the plate below taken away while holding a bowl. When placing the vegetable plate, there were vegetables on her fingers. I would like them to develop the consideration to proceed while understanding the convenience of the guests, not just their own. The food was ordinary without any surprises. Both the food and the service were just ostentatiously dressed up. In this case, a buffet would be much better. The hardware such as the Onsen and Room is okay, but the quality of the essential software is not catching up, which is fatal. The price and value do not match at all. Wouldn't it be better for Kyoritsu Resort to stick to developing Business Hotels? The male and female staff who handled the late-night soba were lively and felt human. I can't express it well, but isn't it becoming an education to mass-produce polite robot staff? There must be staff with hospitality spirit from the beginning, but even that goodness is not being utilized. I learned from this expensive lesson that I will not use Kyoritsu-related facilities other than Business Hotels in the future.

    Bring your parents along.

    Stayed with three people. The room had three beds and was just the right size. The accommodation was overall clean, and shoes were removed and stored at the entrance. There were no slippers inside the facility or rooms, which surprisingly felt comfortable (slippers were provided in the restroom). The room layout was simple and easy to use, with a nice view as well. Dinner was filling, but those who eat a lot might find it insufficient. The crispy tilefish and chili hot pot were especially delicious. The timing of serving dishes was slow—perhaps intentionally or due to staff shortages? For breakfast, you could choose between Japanese or Western style. It seemed like a bit much for my elderly parents, but they enjoyed eating from the three-tiered box with excitement. There is one elevator in the building, which has an easy-to-navigate layout that even those bad with directions can feel comfortable in. A smoking area is located in the basement. We also tried "Yonaki Soba" (late-night ramen), which was delicious! It starts at 10 PM; we arrived on time but found several people already there, and it got busier afterward. While it doesn’t run out of stock, going early might be better. We didn’t use the large public bath or private baths but noticed bottled milk and coffee milk available in the morning—hard to resist grabbing one! Each floor had a drink station where you could freely enjoy beverages; mineral water came in handy for boiling water. The room’s refrigerator also had beer and mineral water stocked. There are several areas accessible 24 hours a day, which I found convenient. There seemed to be more international guests than expected but nothing bothersome about it. Some staff appeared inexperienced; however, they left no negative impression overall.

    Check-in

    During the check-in process, my wife left her handbag next to a chair and went to the Room. When we reached the Room and realized she had forgotten her handbag, we returned to the check-in area and found it in the same state. I wondered if the Hotel staff would check such things. While it was my wife's fault for forgetting, I wished the staff had noticed. The meals and the open-air bath were very satisfying.
