    Dog-Friendly Accommodation

We were glad we could enjoy our meals in the Room together with our dog, which allowed us to relax. It would have been even better if Child Sharing Existing Bedding had been possible on the futon. The Onsen in the Room was very convenient for us because we could adjust the water temperature ourselves.

    Wonderful Family Time

A family trip with our dog. Everyone at the Hotel was very kind and helpful, and we had a wonderful time. I was especially happy to see our dog so cheerful and relaxed. The meals were delicious, the welcome drink was much appreciated, and we were able to use the Onsen in the main building—overall, we were very satisfied. If I had to mention one thing, it would have been even better if there had been a crate for our dog. We would love to visit again. I hope more of these Facilities will open in the Kansai area.

    We had a relaxing stay.

This was our first trip traveling with our dog. The Room was clean, the amenities were well stocked, and the food was very delicious. The staff were also kind to our dog. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

The Perfect Accommodation for Your Dog

My son and his wife stayed here with their dog. The Room was clean with no odors, and it seems they had a very comfortable stay thanks to the dog-first approach. They were also very satisfied with the meals, as they could enjoy them slowly in their Room without worrying about other dogs. They said they would like to stay again.

We stayed as a couple with two Toy Poodles.

I had high expectations based on the positive Reviews before my stay, but overall it was not good. This Accommodation shares facilities such as the large public bath with the adjacent “Hamakozuki,” and meals are brought from Hamakozuki by Hamakozuki staff and served in the Room, which left everything feeling half-baked. Specifically, the food was not tasty and showed little creativity. (I also wondered why live sea bream sashimi was served for an August dinner at Lake Biwa—sea bream is generally past its prime after spawning in August, and Lake Biwa isn’t even connected to the sea.) To reach the large public bath, you have to pass through a corridor between Hamakozuki’s pantry and kitchen, where you can hear kitchen noise and see stacks of used dishes. On top of that, at breakfast I was offered an optional raw egg for 330 yen. The private open-air bath in the guest Room was described as Onsen (a cold spring that requires heating), but it is a type where low-temperature spring water is mixed with heated tap water, which dilutes the Onsen minerals and left me unimpressed afterward. And all this for over 110,000 yen for two people. I don’t think I would return.

    Excellent

We stayed here for a birthday trip for my mother and our dog. The Facility and the food were excellent, but even more than that, every staff member we met was wonderful, and we were able to spend a truly comfortable time. What impressed us most was that all the staff remembered our dog’s name and greeted us using it. We will definitely stay again. Thank you very much.

    Always completely satisfied!

Traveling with our dog, my elderly mother, and wanting in-Room dining and an in-Room Onsen, it’s hard to find an Accommodation that truly satisfies us. But at Regina, we’re always completely satisfied—starting with the wonderful hospitality of the staff! It’s also great that you can take a walk around the castle and along the lakeside. If I had one wish, it would be to see more dog-friendly sightseeing spots around Kurokabe and in Nagahama.

    The Accommodation al...

The Accommodation allows shoes indoors. Because the floors are flat from the hallway into the Room, it’s unclear where to take off your shoes, which raised hygiene concerns. The open-air bath in the Room was nice, but the neighboring Ryokan’s bath was just an outdoor bath with three pots placed outside, and there was only one indoor bath as well. The shower hose had mold, and the amenities were not very good. Meals are delivered from this Ryokan to your Room, but since we didn’t upgrade, it was unclear what the main dish was supposed to be. The Omi beef sukiyaki came with three thin, small slices of meat. Dessert also felt like something for children. That said, the service was excellent.

    Dog’s Birthday

I booked this Hotel because I wanted to take my dog on his first trip to celebrate his birthday. The food was delicious, the Onsen next door at the Ryokan had wonderfully soft water, and the bed was very comfortable. The Room was also larger and cleaner than it looked in the photos, and I really liked it. However, after dinner (around 9:00 p.m.), my dog suddenly became very upset. I thought he would calm down by morning, but he was still in a bad mood. When a staff member came to clear our breakfast dishes and I mentioned that he seemed unhappy, they asked if it was his first trip. When I said yes, they told me some dogs can become irritable due to stress. That explanation made sense to me. I thought he would be fine since we were with him as a family, but he may have felt anxious in an unfamiliar place. If you have a dog like ours who may bite and is not used to traveling (depending on the breed), I recommend bringing protective items such as training gear or gloves so you won’t get injured if bitten. After breakfast, once we changed clothes—maybe he realized we were going home—he finally calmed down again, which was a relief. For a while he wouldn’t let us touch him at all, so I wasn’t sure how we would manage getting home... We chose a room with a garden because we wanted to let him play outside off-leash, but perhaps because he has no experience with dog runs or similar places, he didn’t play at all—so that was disappointing. Things don’t always go as planned.

    Birthday Holiday

    1) The room is spacious enough for in-room breakfast and dinner. However, since the meals are delivered from Hamakogetsu next door, the rice may not be hot; you may need to use the in-room microwave. All dishes are excellent. Upgrading to certified Omi beef is highly recommended. 2) The semi-open-air in-room onsen bath can feel too cold; it may be better to use Hamakogetsu’s public onsen. 3) Good coffee and drink bar. 4) All staff are pleasant and helpful.

    Excellent!

We stayed as a family of four with my parents and our 2-year-old toy poodle. The room was convenient and allowed us to enjoy a relaxing stay. The staff were friendly and made our experience pleasant. Additionally, there was a walking path right next to the hotel, which was very convenient! It was an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    Cozy yet comfortable.

I visit Shiga several times a year for dog meetups. I have stayed at various dog-friendly accommodations, and this is my second stay here. Among the different Reginas I’ve stayed at, this one stands out for its compact size and convenient location. While it doesn’t offer features like a dog run or nature-focused stays, it’s right in front of Lake Biwa with a large park nearby and close to tourist attractions, which is very appealing. The hotel is small, and the rooms are cozy but equipped with an open-air bath and in-room dining for a comfortable experience. Guests can also use the public bath facilities connected to the adjacent ryokan. Meals are provided from there as well. In terms of service, improvements were made based on feedback I gave in a previous survey, which left me with an even better impression this time around. If I may suggest further enhancements—adding alcoholic options to the welcome drinks would be great! It would instantly create a relaxing atmosphere for guests to unwind completely!

We enjoyed our vacation with Sakura. There are many thoughtful arrangements for guests with dogs, and we have already completed the reservation for our next visit.

    Satisfaction

Traveling to an Onsen with my visually impaired father and our dog can be challenging, but this place was perfect. The Room had its own Onsen (as my father cannot use the large public bath alone), and meals were served in the Room (our dog doesn't like being left alone in unfamiliar places). It was also barrier-free! The amenities were excellent, including a ReFa hair dryer, which I loved, and the slippers were fluffy, comfortable, and easy to wear. The staff kindly called our dog by name, which made us very happy. The raw egg at breakfast was incredibly delicious.

    Satisfaction

We visited with our family of three (humans) to celebrate our beloved dog's birthday. The staff's attentiveness was truly appreciated, and that was the first thing that stood out to us. The surprise for our dog in the room was also very touching (I won't go into too much detail... haha). However, the seasoning of the meals seemed more Kanto-style? It would have been nice if it had a Kansai-style (Kyoto-style) dashi flavor. When we filled the semi-open-air bath in our room, there were a lot of hairs from what seemed to be a previous guest's dog floating in it. We had to drain the water, clean the tub, and refill it, which was a bit troublesome. That said, overall we enjoyed both the meals for humans and dogs as they were delicious. The baths—both in-room and public—were relaxing and we used them multiple times during our stay. Our entire family left satisfied and would love to visit this accommodation again someday. Thank you very much!

    Second Stay

This was my second stay, and this time I visited to celebrate my beloved dog's birthday. As with the previous visit, the hospitality was exceptional, and the staff were very considerate despite any inconvenience caused, always responding with a smile. The meals were all delicious, made with locally sourced ingredients, and served in generous portions that were almost too much to finish. I am satisfied every time I stay here. The semi-open-air bath allowed for a relaxing soak, and I appreciated being able to use the large public bath at the adjacent Hotel as well. I would love to visit again if given the opportunity. Thank you also for the birthday message!

It was excellent. The staff were kind and very attentive, and the Room was very clean! The meals had a great variety and generous portions. Since the meals were served in the Room, I could relax and spend time with my beloved dog, and there were many walking paths outside which was very convenient. I would love to visit again.

    Delicious meals for your dog

There was a wide variety of dishes for dogs, so I decided to order for the first time. The main dish was trout. The flaked trout was tender and looked delicious, and my dog enjoyed it very much. Since it was my dog's birthday this month, we also received a cake and a framed photo as a gift, creating an unexpected and wonderful memory. Thank you to all the smiling staff!

    Dog-Friendly

The level of service was just right, with no unnecessary interactions, making it very comfortable. The meals felt slightly abundant for us as seniors. The best part was the perfect environment for walking our dog. Among all the pet-friendly Ryokans we've visited, this was the best.

First Accommodation Exclusively for Guests with Dogs

I have traveled several times before, but I usually stayed at hotels where only some rooms were dog-friendly. This time, I was delighted by the thoughtful hospitality for guests with dogs throughout the accommodation, allowing me to relax without any worries. - The room was clean and spacious (there was an air purifier). - After returning from a walk, there was a foot-washing area right at the entrance with towels, wet wipes, and a trash bin available. - Just a short walk from the accommodation, there are plenty of places to take walks (Hokoen Park and the lakeside path along Lake Biwa). - Above all, the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. Thank you for taking care of us!

The friendly service, dinner course meals, breakfast, and even meals for dogs were really great. I would like to visit again when it gets warmer.
