    I’m a fan of Mizumaru.

I learned about this place through an essay by Mizumaru Anzai, whom I’m a fan of, and made a Reservation because I truly wanted to visit. Books by Mizumaru and Haruki were available in the lobby and in each Room, which made the stay especially enjoyable. The young staff worked efficiently and it felt very pleasant. At dinner, due to our mistake, the fuel ran out before the dish was finished cooking, but they noticed immediately and discreetly added more. They did so before we even had to mention it, and I was impressed by their attentiveness and smart handling of the situation. Perhaps because many Rooms have open-air baths, the public bath was quiet and relaxing, and it was also a big plus that you can reach the beach quickly by passing through the courtyard.

    Elevator Installation

I stayed in a special room with an open-air bath on the 4th floor, but there was no elevator, which was very challenging. For elderly guests, going back and forth for meals or to the large public bath can be quite difficult.

    Room with Open-Air Bath

Stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. Dinner was robatayaki, but as I have back issues and cannot sit cross-legged, I felt that dining areas with chairs and tables should also be available. Additionally, the ingredients could be more aligned with the price charged.

The temperature and meals are highly satisfying.

Due to my daughter's work, we urgently searched for accommodation in Tateyama and stayed at Chikurakan. The wallpaper in the room was blue, but there were noticeable scratches and peeling here and there. A white color might give a cleaner impression. The futon was quite thin, making my body stiff. Also, the air conditioner stopped blowing air, and although a staff member fixed it for us, it only worked at 22 degrees Celsius, so we shivered through the night (laughs). As for the baths: the smaller one is 100% natural hot spring with lukewarm water; the larger one is 50% natural hot spring with hotter water. Alternating between them warmed up our bodies wonderfully. However, the steps of the smaller bath were slippery—many guests seemed to have dangerous slips. My daughter and I also hit our arms hard; this should be addressed somehow. For meals, we had a course that included spiny lobster along with abalone and large clams—all very delicious overall! The freshly cooked rice was also satisfying. Lastly, if I may add: all staff members lacked friendliness—they seemed to speak strictly according to manuals without conveying any sense of hospitality toward guests, which was disappointing.

    We had a great time.

The meals were highly satisfying. The fresh seafood platter was impressive, but I believe the turban shell would have been better as grilled in its shell, and the abalone steamed with sake for enhanced flavor, texture, and presentation. Although the room attendant's Japanese was a bit hesitant, their hospitality conveyed warmth and created a sense of closeness. Having stayed in many accommodations with open-air baths across Japan, this experience was well-balanced and thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you very much!

    Thank you for your h...

Thank you for your hospitality. The Room was clean, and the service was mostly good. Also, the meals were delicious. However, the open-air bath and the attached shower were only outside. It is tough to wash the body and hair outside in this cold weather. We were recommended the private garden bath, and we tried it, but it was also basically outdoors. Since there are reasons we cannot use the large public bath, we would have appreciated being informed in advance that it is only outdoors depending on the season.

Next time, I want to try eating by the irori (irori).

We stayed as a couple. Stayed in a Japanese-Western style room on the fourth floor (no elevator). The room is spacious, simple, and calming. The massage chair is a plus. It is barrier-free with no steps on the floor, making it easy to move to the toilet and washroom. The outdoor bath is also spacious and comfortable (it takes a little time to fill the tub). I wished there were two cups in the washroom. The private bath on the first floor had a satisfactory bathtub. If I had to say, the changing room had no heating, so it's cold in winter. I used the hairdryer, etc., after returning to the room. The meals were very satisfying in both taste and quantity. I would be happy if the alcohol was a bit cheaper. There was a meal by the hearth, so I would like to try that next time. Definitely worth a revisit. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful.

I spontaneously reserved a room that happened to be available on the day. Having an onsen open-air bath in the room is truly relaxing. I would love to visit again!
