    A hidden retreat for adults?

    The onsen family bath with free-flowing hot spring water was gentle and very soothing. The cuisine was exceptional. The first experience of yuba (tofu skin) raised my expectations for the meal significantly. While the Bungo beef was outstanding, the fried Enoha fish was particularly remarkable. The view of Serikawa River, Ganiyu Onsen, and the onsen town from the room was full of charm and truly wonderful. This hidden gem of an onsen accommodation provided a serene and relaxing atmosphere for adults.

    The First Visit to Nagayu Onsen

    I wanted to stay at a Property in Nagayu Onsen, so I made a Reservation at Marucho Ryokan. The owner and the staff were very kind, and the food was absolutely satisfying. The flowing Onsen was also incredibly satisfying. The view of the river and the spot-billed ducks (?) from the Room, as well as the Ganiyu, were very soothing. Marucho Ryokan is a place I would love to use again.

    Both the meals and the Onsen are wonderful.

    We were welcomed by a very kind host. This property is a refreshing Japanese architectural style, different from the so-called folk art style often seen in Kumamoto. We were most looking forward to the meals, and they did not disappoint. The local ingredients were carefully prepared and beautifully presented, and everything was as delicious as we imagined. The dashi-maki for breakfast was also impressive. The onsen is heated during the winter, but the luxurious free-flowing water allowed us to relax slowly. The only disappointment was that the timing of the dinner service was too early. Dishes were brought out one after another, quickly filling the table, so we requested a slower pace. However, it took only 1 hour and 10 minutes until dessert was served. We would have liked to savor the exquisite dishes more leisurely while enjoying some drinks. Nonetheless, it was very quiet, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. Although it is not an easily accessible location from Tokyo, being quite a distance from the airport, it is a property we would like to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.

    As expected, it was a wonderful Ryokan. However, with just a little more reassurance and kindness, it would be the ultimate place for relaxation.
