Magnificent Ocean Views and Exceptional Cuisine

My spouse and I visited Wakasa for the first time from Tokyo. A hidden Accommodation quietly nestled in a very peaceful fishing village. From our Room, the beautiful Sea of Japan stretched out below us. Listening to the waves crashing against the rocks, we enjoyed a truly luxurious time watching the sun slowly sink into the endless horizon. The view from the bath was also outstanding. The meal was a kaiseki course featuring plenty of fresh local fish and vegetables, and we were left speechless by the rich flavors—something you could never experience in the city. We were able to fully enjoy everything Wakasa has to offer. We look forward to staying again.

    Excellent dining experience

With the gentle sound of waves in the background, we enjoyed delicious food while watching the sunset and had a wonderful time. The dinner course in particular was excellent, and we were very satisfied. The owner couple were also very welcoming, which made it easy to relax. We would love to stay again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

The food and the view are outstanding.

Every dish was made with fresh ingredients, beautifully presented, and truly delicious. The calm, crystal-clear sea stretching out before you is also wonderfully soothing. With its warm, family-run atmosphere, we were able to relax and unwind. Highly recommended when you want great food and some quiet time.

I was looking forward to the fugu cuisine, and it was absolutely delicious—I was very satisfied. Breakfast was also excellent, and with the great weather, I enjoyed a luxurious meal while looking out at the sea.

    Many concerns.

Maybe my expectations were too high for the price. When I arrived, the entrance had been neatly sprinkled with water and everything was ready to welcome guests, which left a great first impression. That raised my expectations quite a bit, but during my stay there were many moments that felt unpleasant. First, the staff service was underwhelming. The part-time staff at a chain restaurant I stopped by after checkout actually provided better service, and I ended up feeling more satisfied there. During dinner, I thought the course might not be enough and asked an older female staff member, “Do you have any additional à la carte dishes?” but her response made it seem like she didn’t understand. I didn’t think it was a difficult question—if there weren’t any, it would have been fine to simply say so. I also felt an overall atmosphere of “we want to clean up quickly,” which bothered me. When the samue size didn’t fit and I asked for one size larger to be brought to my Room, I was hurriedly told something like, “Can you return the one that doesn’t fit?” On top of that, I could hear vacuuming early in the morning, so it wasn’t a relaxing environment. Also, after breakfast I wanted to lie down in the futon again for a bit, but even though I hadn’t given permission for anyone to enter my Room that morning yet, the futon had already been put away. Being able to relax on the futon again after breakfast is one of the nice things about a Ryokan experience—what a waste. I understand entering the Room during dinner to lay out futons, but entering without permission during breakfast just to put them away feels questionable. Wouldn’t it be better to do that after checkout? That said, this isn’t exactly a high-priced place either, so maybe expecting that level of consideration was my mistake. As for the food overall: neither particularly good nor bad. The way crab is served may be part of this Accommodation’s style (and it’s simply not my personal preference), so I won’t comment on that—but how they cut into/trimmed the steamed crab stood out. It wasn’t cut deeply enough; moreover, only small areas were trimmed off in general; joints weren’t opened up; and even the tips weren’t split lengthwise—making it quite difficult to eat. It would be worth improving. By contrast, the water glasses were very cute.

It was an accommodation with delicious cuisine.

This was my first time staying at this accommodation. I enjoyed many dishes I had never tried before, especially the fried abalone and the perfectly grilled charcoal-grilled nodoguro. I would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Meals

Above all, the meals are exceptionally delicious. Having stayed at various ryokans, this one is undoubtedly number one.

    Excellent!

This was a Ryokan I had been curious about due to its high reviews, but it was fully booked. Luckily, I received a cancellation notification and was able to stay. The bath was small, but since there were only three groups of guests, it felt almost like a private experience. The room faced the ocean directly. The view was stunning, though the sound of waves from the Sea of Japan might be noticeable for some. The highlight was definitely the food. From the first dish of sashimi with its variety and quality to the second dish—grilled nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch)—which was rich and flavorful, everything exceeded expectations. Following that were steamed crab, fried abalone, sirloin steak, and even dessert—all absolutely delicious. I’m curious about their menu in other seasons as well; although it's a bit far away, I will definitely visit again!

    The Ultimate Journey

The sound of the waves from the Room was truly soothing. I tried abalone for the first time, which I had avoided before, and it was surprisingly delicious—I ended up eating a lot by myself. The other dishes were also elegant and all very tasty. Thank you for an amazing trip!

    A delightful Japanese cuisine auberge.

The accommodation has a modern feel rather than a traditional Ryokan atmosphere, but being run by the fourth generation, it is indeed a long-established Ryokan. It was renovated 8 years ago. At checkout, the young owner who greeted us was so handsome that he looked like an Italian chef—perhaps the renovation reflects his taste? However, the meals were a delightful array of delicious Japanese cuisine. The abalone shabu-shabu and sashimi were particularly exquisite. The sound of waves was soothing, and we even enjoyed fresh rock oysters not listed on the menu. The smiles of the hostess and staff truly brought comfort to our stay. One reason for traveling is to experience such warm hospitality through their excellent service. The young hostess was working hard while carrying her baby on her back—please take care of yourself! They seem to offer seasonal seafood delicacies, so I would love to visit again during another season if given the chance.

An accommodation desperate to make guests leave even a minute before check-out time.

Check-out time is 10:00 AM. Shuttle Service departs at 9:30 AM, and guests are requested to gather in the lobby by 9:25 AM. For those not using the Shuttle Service, please plan your departure accordingly. Guests are welcome to enjoy their stay until check-out time and take in the beautiful scenery at their own pace. The sound of waves is captivating.

The cuisine was exquisite. They kindly accommodated our requests. The service was excellent, and although the building is compact, it is adorned with antiques and paintings, creating a cozy atmosphere. The Room offered an unobstructed view of the sea, with the soothing sound of waves leaving a lasting impression. It was a relaxing and wonderful holiday. I would love to visit again for another leisurely stay.

    Enjoy Crab to the Fullest

We enjoyed plenty of delicious crab, and it was absolutely delightful. The woman who served us dinner was very kind and attentive, making our experience truly satisfying. Thank you so much. However, we were concerned about the attitude of the man (possibly the owner) at the front desk during checkout. He seemed brusque, and it appeared that the women staff were hesitant around him. Despite the heavy rain, we were only offered a worn-out plastic umbrella, which left us questioning the hospitality during our departure moment.

    Echizen crab is delicious.

The Echizen crab was delicious. It took some time to pick the crab, so it was a bit hectic.

A quiet location with a view of the vast ocean

Since we were traveling by public transportation, we had requested a pickup at Mikata Goko Rainbow Park in advance. However, due to the weather, we changed the order of our itinerary. Thank you for accommodating the change in pickup time and for preparing an early breakfast as we had to catch an early bus the next morning. The hostess was very kind and pleasant. Of course, the meals were delicious, and the location was excellent.

    It was excellent.

The food was delicious anyway! It was great to be able to eat fresh fish that was procured that day. Also, the service from the inn staff was courteous. I also liked the facial wash and cleansing amenities. I definitely want to go again.
