    I’d love to stay here again.

    I keep coming back because I especially love the delicious food, the in-room dining, and how easy it is to get here from home. The items in the shop and the understated interior details reflect the Accommodation’s excellent sense of style. The cuisine is mainly Japanese, but with a touch of Chinese and Western flavors as well, so it never gets boring. Perhaps because it was summer, I noticed a slight odor inside the building. I don’t think artificial fragrances would suit the atmosphere, but I felt that some small improvement could help.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again in Every Season

    This was my first stay. (Room name: Akebono-an) It was extremely comfortable, and I was able to relax and take my time. All of the staff were very kind, and it left a strong impression on me how they always greeted me with a smile. In particular, the staff member in charge of our Room supported us thoughtfully in every way—from day-to-day needs to sightseeing advice and suggestions—and I truly appreciated it. They also kindly accommodated a change to the Shuttle Service pickup/drop-off location due to our circumstances, and they handled food allergies properly as well, so we were able to stay with peace of mind. The Room had a modern, sophisticated design and was wonderful. Everything was thoroughly cleaned down to the smallest details, and it felt very fresh and spotless. I was also happy that it even had a mist sauna. Above all, the mountain views from the Room were spectacular, and we could spend time leisurely while enjoying the open scenery. Also, because meals were served in-room, we could relax in a quiet environment without worrying about surrounding noise—this was another highlight. The amenities (such as Touvert lotion) were high quality as well, and you could feel the attention to detail throughout. On the other hand, there were a few points that I felt could make it even more comfortable. If a hair iron were provided, it would be more convenient for women. Also, for indoor slippers within the building: rather than using them only up to the shoe cabinet partway down the corridor, I felt it would be clearer if guests could wear them all the way to each Room entrance—so you don’t have to walk barefoot or risk slippers being mixed up. Regarding the Room design: I thought removing closet doors and making it open would not only improve usability but also better match the current modern and refined atmosphere. The lighting around the washbasin area was slightly dim, which felt somewhat inconvenient when getting ready. I moved a tabletop mirror into the dining area to do my makeup; if that area could be made brighter around the sink counter, it would be easier to use. Also regarding shower fixtures: having an additional holder positioned at a height suitable for showering while standing would be even more convenient. I’ve listed several requests above; however overall this was an extremely satisfying stay. Thanks to everyone’s warm hospitality among your staff members at this Accommodation , we were able to spend our time comfortably and at ease. We would love to visit again.

    It was a nice Ryokan. But was it truly a memorable one...?

    The hot spring water had a pleasantly moisturizing feel that clung to the skin. The service kept a comfortable distance and was polite, leaving no negative impression. The Room was spacious and clean, but the air-conditioning in the bedroom blew directly onto the body even after adjusting the direction and airflow, which I think is an issue. I believe many guests dislike feeling cold air blowing on them directly. As for the meals, I felt there were issues with seasoning, and some menu items (bouillabaisse?) seemed somewhat self-indulgent. Considering the number of Rooms, the large public bath felt like an appropriate size. Also, although it may not fit the Ryokan’s concept, I thought the dressing area could be better equipped. In addition, drinking water should be placed inside the bath area rather than outside in this day and age. Overall, it was disappointing because it felt unclear whether this Ryokan aims to be chosen by discerning guests or to be a reasonably priced family-friendly Ryokan that people can visit casually—it came across as halfway in between. Since this Ryokan has strong potential, I wrote this with high expectations.

    We were extremely satisfied with this Accommodation.

    It was truly a wonderful Accommodation. The cuisine, Onsen, Room, scenery—everything was excellent, and it was a deeply relaxing stay. Since Reviews are personal opinions, I didn’t put much weight on them (as I’ve been disappointed before), but this place felt even more reassuring than the Reviews suggested. I’m not a fan of all-inclusive plans, so I was able to take my time enjoying heartfelt dishes and delicious drinks. All the staff were calm with warm smiles, and their gentle manner of speaking left a great impression. The welcome treat was very delicious. The ornaments were tasteful and lovely as well. Everything was spotless down to every detail—so comfortable, and truly healing. On the way out, there was a Japanese serow on the mountain in front of the entrance, as if seeing us off. It was so unhurried—we just stood there looking at each other for a while. The young proprietress took photos, so if you visit, please ask her to show them to you. I’m really glad we came to Michinoku-an. Thank you very much. On the way home, Zao Fox Village was fun too.

    In a word, this Ryokan is a true pride of Japan.

    I’ve stayed in many places for both business and leisure, and this was without a doubt one of the top three Ryokan experiences of my life. Rather than simply showcasing luxury or imposing anything on guests, everything—from the service to the location—seemed to gently say, “Please rest your mind and body.” I felt truly healed. In particular, the hospitality from one of the young female staff members was outstanding. I’m sure there is a manual, but within that framework I could feel a simple, natural warmth and thoughtfulness that felt uniquely Tohoku. A Ryokan with staff who are like treasures of Japan is something to be grateful for. The meals gathered the best of Tohoku’s bounty, and true to the name, they let me fully experience “Michinoku”—everything was delicious. What impressed me most, though, was the salmon skin at breakfast (!). Perfectly rendered yet fragrant and crisp—an absolute masterpiece. One night and two days wasn’t enough time to see and feel everything, but there wasn’t a single thing I could fault. Having a Ryokan like this in Japan is something to be proud of. Thank you very much.

    I’d love to visit in every season.

    Although it has the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese Ryokan, the Room was equipped with beds and very comfortable to use. We came for the wild mountain vegetables, and the meal—beautifully accented with late-season cherry blossoms—really let us feel the season. If possible, we would have loved to enjoy more locally unique mountain vegetables and traditional ways of preparing them. Freshly harvested bamboo shoots from the grounds were available at a reasonable price. They even included Japanese pepper (sansho) said to have been picked together, making it a wonderful souvenir.

    The bathroom is.

    The chlorine smell in the Room bath was very strong. It was the same the next day. The washing area only had a slatted mat, which is tough at this time of year. At the very least, I think a heater should be placed in the changing area. Thank you to the staff member in charge of our Room for their courteous service.

    The hot water is great.

    The hot spring water is simply excellent. Although the water volume is said to be limited and recirculated, the quality is so good you would never notice. The open-air bath lets you enjoy it to the fullest. With a spacious tub and nothing blocking the view, the sense of openness is wonderful. (There is a private road below, so be aware if that concerns you.) I enjoyed it so much I lost track of time. The Room was the most standard size, but it felt larger than expected and was very practical. Being able to smoke on the balcony will likely be appreciated by smokers as well. (However, the vanity area was too dark to do makeup.) The meals did not suit my taste.

    An accommodation you'll want to revisit.

    The stylish and functional room exceeded the standards of a luxury hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals from the Standard Plan until the very last bite. At checkout, due to internet issues, electronic payment was unavailable, and we had to pay in cash. Since our accommodation fee was through IKYU.com, it was only for shop expenses, but if it had been a Local Payment situation, it would have been quite stressful. Other guests also seemed troubled, saying they usually don't carry cash. While there must have been some measures in place for those without cash on hand, I was surprised that such situations could occur.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    Blending naturally with its surroundings, the view of the bamboo grove from the window was truly soothing. The meals were crafted with an abundance of seasonal local ingredients, each dish prepared with care and absolutely delicious. The presentation was also beautiful, offering a feast for the eyes as well. The staff's attentiveness added to the experience, allowing for a comfortable and pleasant stay. This is a memorable accommodation that makes you want to visit again in a different season.

    Casual Luxury

    I stayed at this accommodation for the first time while looking for an onsen accommodation in Sendai. Based on everyone's reviews beforehand, my expectations were high, but the satisfaction and happiness I experienced far exceeded my imagination. A building and room with no excessive decorations. Simple yet exquisite cuisine that brings out the natural flavors of the ingredients. A bath with an amazing water quality that makes you want to soak forever. And above all, heartfelt hospitality from the staff. I immediately felt relaxed upon arrival and already felt reluctant to leave by the next morning. This is one of the few accommodations I definitely want to visit again. Thank you very much to everyone!

    The open-air bath offers a great view.

    The room was spacious and luxurious for two people, allowing us to relax. The open-air bath in the large public bath was more comfortable than the one in the room. It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't enjoy the Sendai beef as we got full halfway through the upgraded meal. The sashimi portion was too large for our family, so next time we would like to try the standard option. When arriving by train, it was difficult to adjust our schedule until the Shuttle Service due to limited attractions in Shiroishi City.

    Excellent Accommodation

    The accommodation had a charming entrance, and we were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived by car. The building was a stylish single-story structure. Our room was a corner room with great views, spacious, and beautifully designed. The garden featured plantings of Enkianthus and maple trees, which I believe would be stunning during the autumn foliage season. The cuisine was exceptional. The ingredients, seasoning, seasonal presentation, and tableware were all of the highest quality. The staff member who attended to us was thoughtful and wonderful. Everything about this accommodation was outstanding with no complaints whatsoever.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    This accommodation has only 9 rooms, making it perfect for those who prefer a quiet environment like us. The atmosphere from the entrance was inviting and made our hearts race with excitement. Upon entering, we were immediately captivated by the impressive Shinto altar. The seasonal fresh flowers and ornaments placed throughout were also delightful. We chose a room with a great view. Although it rained at night and we couldn't see the starry sky, we enjoyed various beautiful sceneries from daytime to sunset and sunrise gradients. The amenities included products I had been curious about for some time, which made me very happy. As for the meals, they were perfectly seasoned—not too strong or too light—and absolutely delicious. We finished every bite! Even my husband, who prefers stronger flavors, kept saying how delicious everything was! The bath was fantastic as well; however, since it's still late summer with lingering heat, large moths gathered at night. Unfortunately, this made us decide against using the open-air bath in the evening. In the morning as well, they were still clinging to the glass windows. While I understand that coexisting with nature is part of this experience, I would appreciate if efforts could be made to gently remove them in the morning so guests can fully enjoy their time soaking in peace. Other guests seemed concerned about them too and bathed cautiously while checking their surroundings. The staff member assigned to us provided excellent service with great attention to detail. Overall, this was an exceptionally refined accommodation experience. We are determined to visit again. Thank you very much!

    An accommodation I definitely want to visit again.

    Stayed on September 25th! Everything about this accommodation is simply wonderful! The staff were amazing, and I enjoyed having various conversations with them! The food was all delicious and truly impressive! I definitely want to visit again! Thank you to everyone at Michinoku-an for taking care of me! Thank you for your hospitality in Asaka as well!     Thank you for a quiet and enjoyable time.

    Despite the intense heat, stepping through the gate revealed a calm and serene atmosphere as always. The interior and rooms were clean and well-maintained. I enjoyed soaking in the bath while admiring the mountain scenery and peaceful moments. Dinner featured a simple yet flavorful menu, with every dish being exceptionally delicious, perfectly complemented by Zao's local sake. The miso soup and rice porridge at breakfast were gentle on the stomach and much appreciated. Thank you to the chef for such wonderful meals. The staff member in charge of our room was very friendly, sharing many enjoyable stories with us. It became clear that this accommodation values nurturing young talent. Thank you very much!

    We arrived a bit ear...

    We arrived a bit earlier than expected, but the staff provided quick and courteous service, showing great attentiveness. The open-air bath in the guest room was even more spacious and relaxing than it appeared in the photos. The beautifully arranged azaleas and maple trees near the window added to the serene atmosphere, making it a wonderful Onsen experience with silky smooth water for beautiful skin. The meal portions were just right, and the meat was exceptionally delicious. However, after returning home, I realized that although it was advertised as "equipped with a massage chair," I couldn't find one anywhere nor received any explanation about it... This was disappointing and is why I rated the Facility 4 stars instead of 5.

    The greenery visible from the entire Room is beautiful.

    We visited with our 11-month-old daughter as a family of three. The view of bamboo and trees from the room's window was stunning. ● We informed the staff in advance about bringing an infant, and they provided a diaper disposal bin. Our child eats white rice now, and they kindly offered her white rice and seaweed. They also warmed up her baby food for us. The staff were very kind, engaging warmly with our child, which was truly touching. ● Meals were served in the room, which was reassuring since we had a little one who could get noisy at times. The dishes were healthy with plenty of vegetables and easy to enjoy. The roast beef with mustard greens was especially delicious. ● Since the rooms are separated from each other, we didn’t hear any noise from other guests or encounter anyone during our stay. We initially worried about what to do if our child cried but had no such concerns here. ● The Onsen water left my skin feeling incredibly smooth—it was amazing! Amenities like shampoo felt high-quality, similar to items found in select shops, so I didn’t feel the need to bring anything extra from home. ● They provided samue (traditional Japanese loungewear). I’m not fond of yukata that easily come undone while wearing them, so this was very helpful. I didn’t need to bring sleepwear either; however, since samue can leave your chest area exposed slightly, women might feel more comfortable wearing a tank top or thermal underneath it. There were also samue for children—our little one looked adorable in photos! ● Complimentary coffee is available at the lobby all day long. There’s also drip coffee provided in the room—a great perk for coffee lovers! The staff were incredibly kind; the room design was stylish with breathtaking views. I’d love to return during autumn for fall foliage or winter for snowy landscapes. It was a wonderful Onsen experience—thank you!

    We stayed at the property to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. The room was spacious, clean, and easy to use. The view from the window was also wonderful. The onsen in the room was pleasant, and it seems you can set it to your preferred temperature; the facility is excellent. Thank you for promptly providing a chair in the bathroom after observing my mother's condition. She was very pleased with both the ordered cake and non-alcoholic champagne service. Paper items were placed everywhere, and as others have mentioned, towel racks and toothbrush holders were conveniently located where needed; I truly appreciated this attention to detail. There have been only a few properties that are so well-equipped with everything one might need. The meals were delicious, and interacting with the staff was enjoyable; we've already made another reservation for April. The ikebana flower arrangements and decorations throughout the property were beautiful, making even just walking down the corridors enjoyable. Thanks to all your thoughtful considerations, we had a wonderful celebration. Thank you very much! We look forward to enjoying spring views from our room next time.

    Truly delicious! Extremely satisfied with the authentic Japanese cuisine.

    I was captivated by the scenery of the "Asagiri" Room and its stylish interior, and decided to stay for the first time. The room was more wonderful than expected. The bedding was excellent, especially the futon sheets, which were made of high-quality cotton I had never seen before. The hot spring quality and the large public bath were very satisfying. I understand it might be difficult for a Ryokan, but having towels available in the large public bath would be very convenient. The meals focused on Japanese cuisine and were truly delicious. It's been a while since I've been this satisfied with Japanese food. The overall atmosphere of the Property is calm and comfortable, and I think it matches well with a slightly more mature generation rather than younger people. Although it was a short stay of one night and two days, we were completely satisfied and had a joyful time. I definitely want to visit again.

    It was a very lovely Stays!

    The warm smiles and hospitality of the staff were wonderful. The food was also very delicious, and I was very satisfied. There were plenty of bath towels and face towels prepared at the entrance of the bathroom, and I was very happy to be able to use new towels each time. Recently, I have felt that many so-called luxury Stays no longer offer unlimited towel use, so I was even more pleased. During the first three days of the New Year, drinks were served in front of the irori, and we could enjoy sparkling wine, sake in a masu, and non-alcoholic drinks. Furthermore, when we were leaving, we received homemade baked goods from the young proprietress. They were very delicious. It was a Property with very thoughtful attention to detail. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Finally, I was able to stay.

    I had been interested in staying here due to the high Review ratings, but there were no vacancies until now. The facility is almost barrier-free, and the Room doors slide open and are not heavy, making them easy to open and close. There were original guides available for other prefectures as well, which were easy to read, so I took them home. Unusually, there was a toothbrush holder provided. The large public bath has only three washing areas, so it's a bit cramped, but there is an open-air bath where you can enjoy the autumn leaves, which was pleasant. The most unpleasant thing about the large public bath is when cold droplets fall from the ceiling, but this time there was none at all. All the food was delicious, and I ended up eating more than usual, but this is the second place where the rice brand differs between dinner and breakfast. I was happy that the landlady provided service from the time we arrived until we left. It's rare to see a long-length top for the samue. The young landlady's homemade cheesecake was very delicious. Thank you to the Room attendant for the courteous service that didn't seem like you were still in training. I look forward to staying here again.

    Rooms with the scent of new wood

    Upon arriving at Michinoku-an by taxi from Shiraishi Station, the staff warmly welcomed us. We were promptly guided to our room and checked in there. We enjoyed a welcome drink of beer and soft serve ice cream. The Onsen in the room had a perfect temperature, and we were very satisfied. For dinner, we had the local specialty, U-men. A wonderful woman with excellent customer service skills was at the front desk. The person who brought our meal to the room also provided us with various information about Matsushima. The Shokado Cafe was lovely. I would like to visit again during the snowy season. Thank you for your hospitality.

    It was excellent.

    This was the best Ryokan I have ever stayed at. The room was just renovated this year and was clean and tidy. Despite the simplicity, everything necessary was in its place. I was impressed by the number of trash cans and the provision of a toothbrush holder. The softness of the towels in the washroom and toilet was also nice. The bathwater was a bit hot, but when I opened the window, the outside air made it just right, and I could enjoy a pleasant bath. I was worried about stink bugs coming in when I opened the window, but it was fine. The meals were just the right amount for us, and we enjoyed everything. During the meal, they celebrated my birthday by providing non-alcoholic sparkling wine for me, as I can't have alcohol, and also prepared sparkling wine for my husband, which was a thoughtful gesture that touched me. If I had to say, it was a bit disappointing that there were no benefits for Diamond members.
