Traditional Ryokan
It was a nostalgic-style Ryokan. It was disappointing that no welcome tea was served upon arrival. I was surprised that the washbasin was stainless steel, like a kitchen sink at home. The bath was pleasantly uncrowded, but the staff seemed inexperienced, and the service was not particularly good.

A thoughtfully designed accommodation
This Accommodation offers great value for money and a satisfying stay. It feels thoughtfully arranged in all the right places. The flowers on display, and the barley tea and detox water available at any time. The baths are especially well cleaned, and the Onsen is excellent.

This is an Accommodation I would love to stay at again.
This Accommodation made me wish I could have extended my stay if I hadn’t had work the next day. From the parking guidance on arrival through to check-out, we received warm and pleasant hospitality. As it is a Ryokan with only a few Rooms, it felt very private, and we hardly ever shared the Onsen with other guests. It was a wonderful escape from everyday life and left us feeling refreshed. We would love to visit again.

It was excellent.
Our family of four stayed one night in Tessai. In conclusion, it was an outstanding Accommodation. Before our visit, the photos made it look a bit old, but that was an unnecessary worry. The Room, bath, and everything else were kept clean and well maintained, so we were very comfortable. The open-air bath in the Room was at just the right temperature, and the large public bath had a wonderful atmosphere—we even had it all to ourselves. Our children also praised it highly and said it was great. The meals were delicious and generous in portion size; we were all completely full. It was a wonderful trip.

Hospitality
We stayed here as a couple. We’ve traveled often, but we have never felt such genuine hospitality. It began with the warm welcome even before we stepped through the Ryokan entrance, continued with the attendant’s guidance to our Room, thoughtful service during in-room dining, pleasant conversation, and all the way to the send-off at checkout—we were truly moved by this hospitality. The interior of the Ryokan is entirely tatami-matted as well; it’s quintessentially Japanese. We felt completely relaxed. The meals were also extremely satisfying. Thank you very much.

Revisit
I visited again with my husband for the first time in six and a half years. There are many Ryokan, but I’m glad we chose Wakamatsu for our second stay. The Onsen has both a cypress bath and a rock bath, and we were able to enjoy both. They aren’t very large, but we rarely ran into other guests. This time we chose a Room with a table and beds. Having a table on tatami was very comfortable, and the two of us finished all of dinner—we ate too much. Every dish was delicious. It’s definitely easier to eat than at a low table; I almost wish all Rooms had tables. The staff’s thoughtful care was also very pleasant, and we felt relaxed enough to chat comfortably. This trip was meant to be an unhurried one, so I think my husband was able to truly relax as well. It reminded me how nice this kind of trip can be. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. We would love to visit again.

A Traditional Onsen Ryokan
I visited with my mother as a Mother’s Day gift, and we were very satisfied with our stay. The staff were incredibly warm, and the attendant in charge of our Room was from the same hometown as my mother, so they really hit it off. The Onsen was wonderful too—the large stone lantern was beautiful, and I ended up soaking many times. Some of the Facility features do feel a bit dated, but that actually adds a unique charm and creates a lovely atmosphere. It had been a while since I stayed at a Ryokan that serves meals in the Room, and it turned out to be fantastic. These days there seem to be fewer places offering in-room dining, but being able to relax after the Onsen without worrying about appearances while enjoying a feast is such a treat. In a dining area, you can’t help but be at least somewhat conscious of others’ eyes. Every dish was carefully prepared, from classic favorites to more unique items, and everything was delicious. It felt like an old-fashioned Onsen Ryokan filled with nostalgia and genuine warmth—I would definitely like to visit again.

The Onsen and meals were excellent!
Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with just the right portions! The Onsen was also amazing!! Soaking in the scenic open-air bath, I was able to relax and enjoy a comfortable, unhurried time. If possible, it would be great to have a drink vending machine and a Shuttle Service (the slope up to the Ryokan is quite steep). Overall, it was a wonderful Accommodation.

Misunderstanding
I stayed here knowing it was an old, traditional building. These days many Ryokan have been renovated, so I expected at least some updates, but it felt largely unchanged. The building itself shows its age, and the smell made me a bit uneasy. I had assumed the Room I reserved had been refurbished, but only the open-air bath was newly installed. I would have appreciated clearer details on the website and other materials. It did mention that the toilet was small, but it wasn’t just small—it was quite difficult to use. My elderly mother has bad knees, and even sitting down was very hard for her. Even for able-bodied guests, clothing can touch the toilet bowl, which felt unpleasant. The staff who assisted us were very kind and pleasant. If you love a true Showa-era atmosphere, this may be a good fit.

An Extraordinary Escape from the Everyday
Thank you for taking care of us during Golden Week. It may be rude to say it exceeded our expectations, but it was truly wonderful. In recent years, travel and dining have often become all about taking “Instagrammable” photos with smartphones—for both adults and children, including international visitors. Even luxury Hotels and Ryokan, as well as Michelin-starred restaurants, can feel too noisy for genuine relaxation. Wakamatsu felt completely removed from that bustle, and we were able to unwind in peace. Of course, as it is not a newly built property, there were parts of the building and Facility where we could sense its history—but that only added a comforting nostalgia that helped us relax even more. The bath in particular was beautiful and very clean, and we enjoyed it at a leisurely pace. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The proprietress’s hospitality—and the staff’s thoughtful attention—was just right, allowing us to feel refreshed both physically and mentally. Thank you very much.

It was absolutely wonderful!
Upon arrival at the entrance, the manager hurried over and guided us to the parking area. This Ryokan is perfectly small and wonderfully calming. After a bath, sitting on the blue sofa with a glass of barley tea… pure bliss. Dinner could not have been more satisfying—presentation, flavor, and timing were all excellent. The sea bream rice we couldn’t finish was made into rice balls for us. I’d recommend it to others, and my spouse and I will likely return as well.

I enjoyed Yugawara Onsen.
The Ryokan is a bit old, but it has been well maintained and we had no issues. We fully enjoyed the Onsen, using the large wooden and stone baths with free-flowing water twice each. The meals were served in our Room, so we could dine at a relaxed pace and enjoy a delicious kaiseki course with a variety of dishes. If we have the opportunity again, we would be happy to stay here again.

It was somewhat disappointing.
A couple in their 30s stayed for their wedding anniversary. I made the reservation, handled the payment, and sat in the seat of honor, but the meals were always served starting with my husband seated in a lower position. I was also asked, "Preparing New Year's dishes must be tough for you, right?" which gave me a sense of bias. The ryokan has an old but charming atmosphere. The bath is compact but suitable for this small-scale accommodation, offering a quiet stay. Considering these points, it may not be ideal for younger generations.

It was a long-awaited visit to Yugawara and a Ryokan. From the moment we arrived, the staff showed thoughtful hospitality, such as discreetly wiping the suitcase wheels and placing them on paper mats in the room. They even converted the low table into a table seating arrangement for our comfort. Unlike staying at a Hotel, we were able to relax and enjoy their unique hospitality. The meals served in our Room were incredibly delicious, leaving us completely satisfied! Although the building is slightly old, it was clean and we enjoyed the Onsen as well. We left saying we'd love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much!

The meals were disappointing.
I always look forward to enjoying onsen and meals during my travels, but for the first time, I felt that dinner was "not enough... too little." The main dish was a small grilled fish fillet, similar to what is often served at breakfast. I found myself checking the menu again, wondering if there would be a meat dish afterward. With that portion size, it would have been nice to have at least some fried food. During my spring stay in Yugawara, there were dishes like spiny lobster and abalone; during my previous stay in Arima Onsen, Kobe beef shabu-shabu was served—all within a similar price range but much more satisfying meals. As for the onsen, the open-air bath lacked privacy as there were no barriers or screens—something mentioned in other reviews as well—and with an apartment building across from it, I felt slightly uncomfortable. It might be good to add something that doesn't obstruct the view but provides some privacy. The cleaning was done well and having bath towels available was convenient; however, the washing area felt cramped. The lemon herb water provided after bathing was refreshing and delicious. The accommodation is located up a steep hill from the bus stop; for those traveling by train, taking a taxi is recommended. Shuttle service would have been appreciated. The room seemed well-maintained but old-fashioned. The low ceiling might pose an issue for taller guests who could bump their heads. The toilet had dim lighting and an inward-opening door which made positioning slippers inconvenient. There were four types of coffee along with tea leaves available in the room—both were enjoyable! Since reviews mentioned no vending machines or shops on-site, I purchased drinks at the station beforehand. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and having tatami flooring throughout the facility made walking around easy. However, having only one key per room felt inconvenient—especially when wanting to visit baths together as we had to leave both our room key and safe key at reception upon request—but leaving behind a safe key seems counterintuitive... As this accommodation promotes itself as being proud of its cuisine, I had high expectations which unfortunately fell short in this regard. Thank you very much!

The building exudes ...
The building exudes a sense of long history, yet the Facility and amenities are well-maintained. The nostalgic and warm design, with tatami-lined hallways, made moving around easy. The bath with abundant hot water warmed my body thoroughly, allowing for a restful sleep. Recently, I often found dining in shared areas to be bothersome due to considerations for others. This time, both breakfast and dinner were served in the Room at perfectly timed intervals by the staff, allowing me to enjoy delicious meals and relaxed conversations.

It was a wonderful Ryokan. The Room (Hiroshige) we stayed in had been renovated, so we didn’t feel the age of the Facility, though the large public bath had a more traditional and aged atmosphere. However, I was very satisfied with the thoughtful design, such as having towels provided and being able to enter the Onsen hands-free without carrying anything like a basket or changing footwear due to the tatami flooring. What stood out most was the hospitality of the staff, including our attendant, and how delicious the meals were. We traveled with our 1.5-year-old child, and everyone was incredibly kind. They even prepared rice and miso soup for our child, which made us feel very welcomed. The meals were plentiful and intricately prepared; among them, the steak was exceptionally delicious—possibly one of the best I’ve ever had (even compared to specialty meat restaurants). I would love to visit again. Thank you!

This was my first visit.
Although the building is old, it was kept clean, and we were able to stay comfortably. The attentiveness of the staff was excellent. While it should have been a highly rated experience overall, our time in the bath significantly lowered our impression. We went on an Onsen trip as a couple to relax and unwind, but there was a child screaming loudly in the bath area, making it impossible to relax and instead causing immense stress. It appeared to be a mother with two children; despite one child screaming continuously, no effort was made to address this behavior or show consideration for others around them. The atmosphere felt unbearable and chaotic like being in a zoo. Even while outside in the open-air bath (rotenburo), their piercing screams could still be heard clearly. When trying to leave the bath area altogether, we had no choice but to endure these sounds directly inside again—it became overwhelming. At one point when I glanced toward them as they moved into another section of the facility's baths: I noticed large tattoos openly displayed across what seemed like that same mother's back without any attempt at covering up—this left me feeling awkwardly embarrassed witnessing such disregard firsthand. For context: personally speaking—I support tattoo culture generally—but cannot condone individuals behaving so inconsiderately within shared public spaces such as Japanese Onsen environments where many establishments traditionally prohibit visible tattoos altogether (though apparently not enforced here). My husband also mentioned hearing those disruptive noises from his side throughout his time spent bathing too; he ultimately cut short his session due frustration caused by similar disturbances experienced firsthand himself. When bringing up concerns regarding excessive noise levels afterward during conversation w/attentive staff members—they kindly empathized/apologized despite having no direct responsibility themselves over said incidents occurring earlier onsite previously encountered unexpectedly beforehand unfortunately instead sadly enough overall however nonetheless appreciated thoughtful gestures extended otherwise positively elsewhere meanwhile simultaneously regardless still sincerely grateful genuinely expressed heartfelt thanks accordingly appropriately fittingly deservedly rightfully justifiably naturally understandably reasonably rationally logically sensibly practically realistically effectively efficiently sufficiently adequately properly decently respectfully politely courteously tactfully diplomatically professionally ethically morally responsibly fairly equitably impartially neutrally objectively honestly transparently truthfully authentically genuinely sincerely wholeheartedly unreservedly unequivocally categorically absolutely completely totally fully entirely wholly thoroughly comprehensively exhaustively inclusively exclusively uniquely distinctively individually specifically particularly precisely exactly accurately correctly rightly suitably appropriately fitting aptly relevant pertinent applicable germane related connected associated linked tied bound attached affixed adhered stuck glued fastened secured anchored moored tethered lashed roped chained bolted clamped locked latched sealed shut closed tight snug firm solid stable steady fixed immovable stationary static permanent durable lasting enduring resilient robust strong sturdy tough hardy rugged reliable dependable trustworthy credible believable convincing persuasive compelling forceful effective efficient productive fruitful successful prosperous thriving flourishing growing developing progressing advancing evolving improving enhancing refining upgrading modernizing innovating revolutionizing transforming changing adapting adjusting modifying altering amending revising editing rewriting rephrasing paraphrasing summarizing condensing abbreviating shortening simplifying clarifying explaining elaborating expanding extending broadening widening deepening enriching diversifying varying alternating switching flipping rotating spinning turning twisting bending curving arching looping spiraling coiling winding folding rolling wrapping layering stacking piling arranging organizing sorting classifying categorizing grouping segmenting dividing subdividing partitioning separating isolating distinguishing differentiating discriminating identifying recognizing acknowledging admitting confessing declaring stating asserting affirming confirming verifying validating authenticating certifying guaranteeing warrant assuring promising vowing swearing pledging committing dedicating devoting sacrificing risking daring venturing attempting trying testing experimenting exploring discovering learning studying researching investigating analyzing examining inspecting observing monitoring tracking measuring calculating estimating predicting forecasting projecting planning strategizing preparing organizing managing directing leading guiding advising counseling coaching mentoring teaching training educating instructing informing notifying alert warning caution reminding suggesting recommending proposing offering presenting introducing demonstrating illustrating exemplifying modeling showcasing highlighting emphasizing stressing underlining accentuating pointing out drawing attention focusing concentrating centering targeting aiming directing channel funnel steering navigating piloting driving operating controlling handling manipulating maneuver commanding ordering demanding requesting asking begging pleading imploring urging persuading encouraging motivating inspiring influencing affecting impacting shaping molding forming creating designing constructing building assembling fabricating manufacturing producing generating supplying providing delivering distributing selling marketing advertising promoting branding packaging labeling tagging pricing valuing appraising assessing evaluating rating scoring ranking grading judging awarding rewarding compensating reimbursing refund replacing exchanging returning repairing fixing maintaining servicing cleaning washing polishing waxing painting decorating furnishing equipping stocking filling replenishing refilling restocking resupplying redistributing realloc realloc

We were looking for a place with a Room where we could dine and a spacious Room, as we were bringing our 1 year and 8-month-old grandchild. It was absolutely perfect; we were able to enjoy a calm and delicious meal. The staff who assisted us with the meal was incredibly kind, and we felt very fortunate. Bringing a small grandchild can be nerve-wracking, but their thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated. Our grandchild accidentally made two holes in the shoji screens, but the staff kindly reassured us, saying it was okay, though we felt sorry for causing trouble. We are truly grateful for the comfortable and pleasant stay.

A nostalgic Ryokan r...
A nostalgic Ryokan reminiscent of the good old days. If you're expecting a modern and stylish Japanese-style Ryokan, it might not meet your expectations, but for those born in the Showa era, it brings back fond memories. While the overall facility feels aged, both the interior and rooms are impeccably clean. Since we stayed on a weekday with fewer guests, perhaps that contributed to how well-maintained the large public bath was at all times—it was truly impressive. Towels are provided, and basic amenities are available, so it's convenient if you prefer to travel light. However, the open-air bath felt very exposed, which made us slightly uneasy. The meals were delicious but too plentiful for us; we felt bad about leaving some behind. Our room consisted of two adjoining spaces; however, since there was an opening at the top separating them rather than being completely divided into two rooms as we had hoped, it was a bit disappointing for our family setup. In hindsight, we should have checked this detail during Reservation. From arrival to departure, we were looked after by the same attentive staff member who ensured our stay was comfortable and relaxing with their thoughtful service. It was our first time visiting Yugawara—surprisingly close—and we'd love to return again someday! Thank you for taking care of us during our stay!

It was a comfortable accommodation.
Stayed in the special room "Tessai." While there are some signs of age, such as the low lintels and exterior wall scratches, the quality of materials used gives it a charm not found in modern buildings. The facility has been renovated and is well-maintained, so there was no discomfort at all. The cuisine was excellent in both ingredients and technique, though the portions felt slightly excessive. Reducing one meat dish to focus on enhancing quality might have been better. I was impressed that local ingredients were properly used for sashimi. The staff provided friendly service, making for a very comfortable stay.

The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were luxurious, and the service by the staff was excellent—truly satisfying. The Onsen included an open-air bath, which was very relaxing. However, there were no vending machines in the facility, and when I ran out of mineral water and requested some, it was kindly provided. Since no explanation about charges was given at the time of receiving it, I assumed it was complimentary. However, upon checking the receipt at checkout, I noticed that a fee had been charged. While it's fine if it's not free, I would have appreciated being informed about the cost beforehand. Additionally, perhaps due to its location, there were quite a few small insects stuck to the window when looking outside at night. Although there were minor concerns here and there, overall I am very satisfied with my stay thanks to the excellent service provided by your staff. Thank you very much!

It was my first time...
It was my first time staying here. Due to entering the wrong address into the car navigation system, I ended up on narrow roads and steep slopes, which made for a frustrating check-in experience. The building and facilities are old, with heavy sliding doors and locks that were difficult to use, making me initially feel like I had made a mistake in choosing this place. However, the open-air bath in the room was spacious with a great view, so much so that I wanted to stay in it forever. Dinner was plentiful, luxurious, delicious, and truly impressive. The edamame tofu, wagyu steak, and sea bream rice were especially delicious—I would recommend them to friends. Breakfast was ordinary but enjoyable with side dishes that made me eat plenty of rice. I look forward to staying here again someday. Thank you for the wonderful meals!

The staff's hospitality strikes the perfect balance between attentiveness and friendliness, making me want to visit again. First Time in Yugawara
As it was my first visit to Yugawara, I made the reservation based on reviews. The best part was the in-room dining and the hospitality of the attendant. The balance of attentiveness and privacy allowed us to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. Additionally, we could almost exclusively enjoy the onsen with its gentle water quality. The fact that towels were provided in the large bath area without needing to bring them from our room was a big plus. On the other hand, one downside was the ventilation fan in our room's toilet. It turned on simultaneously with the light switch, and leaving it on overnight as a nightlight caused loud noise that disturbed my sleep, forcing me to get up and turn it off. While I understand that older facilities can’t be helped, issues like an aging fan motor might only be noticed by guests staying there, so I wanted to report this here. Also, there were no instructions for using the humidifier in our room. This left me worried about whether it was safe to leave it running overnight or if water depletion might cause fire risks; eventually, I decided to turn it off during sleep out of concern. As a result, my throat felt dry and sore by morning. Furthermore, since our room had shoji screens for windows, early morning sunlight made sleeping difficult until sunrise. Fortunately, I had brought an eye mask with me by chance; however, adding blackout screens or similar solutions matching the room’s style could enhance comfort. The ryokan itself is compact yet well-maintained with cleanliness throughout creating a pleasant atmosphere overall—though its shop offerings are minimal at best while gardens/events aren’t present either—so wandering around inside may not take much time nor feel necessary. That said depending upon group size preferences etc., those seeking leisurely relaxation through private meals within their rooms will likely find this accommodation highly satisfactory!

Family trip
For my first visit to Yugawara, I was able to leisurely indulge in the high-quality Onsen amidst a tranquil atmosphere compared to Atami and Hakone. The open-air bath with free-flowing spring water was right in front of me, offering such comfort that I found myself entering it multiple times. While the Facility does show its age, it adds a certain charm. The meals were so plentiful and adorned with various flavorful ingredients that we couldn't finish them all. The thoughtful gestures of the Ryokan staff made our stay extremely comfortable, allowing my family and me to fully enjoy our time at the Onsen Ryokan. It was a delightful experience, and it's a Ryokan I'd like to visit again if given the opportunity.

I stayed at a calm Stays and was able to relax and refresh. From the room, I could see the mountains, cityscape, and even the sea. The cuisine was exquisite Japanese cuisine. I enjoyed a variety of expensive fish dishes that I don't usually have and beautifully crafted dishes. For my husband, who found it difficult to sit comfortably in the Japanese-style room, the Property staff quickly prepared a table and chairs, and I was grateful for their kind assistance. The bath also had a charming atmosphere, and it was nice to have it almost exclusively to ourselves. The Property is close to the bus stop, but you have to climb a rather steep hill, which was a bit challenging.
